Social worlds are networks of interaction formed around shared activities, interests, or experiences. They provide normative frameworks that shape interactions both within and outside the social world. While social worlds have fuzzy boundaries, people experience being "inside" or "outside" of them. The asexuality social world emerged online in the early 2000s through forums and communities for people who do not experience sexual attraction. Discovery of this social world allows for reevaluation of one's identity for those who previously felt their lack of sexuality was problematic. Understanding how individuals' experiences and trajectories lead them to converge in social worlds is important for analyzing how those worlds are constituted over time.
