Intersectionality:
What’s It All About?
“The interconnected nature of social
categorizations such as race, class, and
gender as they apply to a given
individual or group, regarded as
creating overlapping and
interdependent systems of
discrimination or disadvantage”
How to be an Ally
 Take a step back and listen to people’s
experiences and stories.
 Never make assumptions about a person’s
experience based on their identity.
 Make spaces that are open to diverse
perspectives.
 Be willing to acknowledge the limits of your
perspective and open to trying to understand
someone else’s point of view.
