1) R.S. Meena, Additional Director General of Police, challenged UPES students to develop a laptop costing less than Rs. 5000 as part of the "Make in India" theme of the IGNITE-2016 festival at UPES.
2) Over 5000 students from UPES and other universities across India are participating in over 100 events focused on the "Make in India" mission during the two-day festival.
3) UPES Chancellor Dr. S.J. Chopra reiterated the university's commitment to students' holistic development and encouraged ventures aligned with the "Make in India" theme.

R S Meena challenges UPES students to a develop Lap –Top for Less than Rs 5000/-
“IGNITE -2016” inaugurated under ‘Make in India’ theme
Speaking at the inaugural ceremony of the 5th
edition of the two day ‘Techno-Managerial-Legal’ festival of UPES on
Friday Mr. R S Meena, Additional Director General of Police quoted the example of Mohit Goel of Shamli who has been
able to make a smart phone for Rs. 251/- and challenged UPES students to attempt making a Lap-Top for less than Rs
5000/- . Encouraging the students he said that the way the University has grown and is progressing he is quite certain
that UPES students will make this happen in near future. Mr. Meena while addressing a packed auditorium highlighted
three parameters in the run up to of ‘Make in India’ theme wherein he advised students that in their innovations focus
needs to be kept on cost effectiveness while maintain the quality and ensuring that the creation is environment friendly.
UPES has always maintained focus on all round development of students and it continues to endeavor towards this goal.
Over the years the University has evolved, developed and improved forums to increase exposure of the students not
only in curricular focused activities but also co-curricular and extra-curricular activities. One such co-curricular activity
on a large scale is called ‘Ignite’ and was initiated in 2011. This is an inter University event where not only students from
all three constituent colleges of UPES viz ‘College of Engineering Studies’, ‘College of Management & Economic Studies’ &
‘College of Legal Studies’ come on one platform to showcase their knowledge and talent in their respective disciplines
but students from other Universities and Institutes are also invited to participate. The quality of this event has seen a
continuous improvement since its inception both in terms of increased external participation at the student level and
also by way of getting more numbers of Industry experts on this forum.
Sharing details of “Ignite-16” Mr. Arun Dhand, Director – Media Affairs said that the theme of this edition has been
aligned with the “Make in India” mission of the Prime Minister and a large number of events have been designed aligned
to this theme. Over 5000 students are participating in this two day festival in hundred plus events across the three
constituent colleges of the University he said. Apart from a large number of students of the host University and other
local Universities like DIT, Graphic Era & UIT, many students from reputed Institutes of other states have travelled long
distances to be a part of this festival which include Maharashtra, Gujarat, Odisha, West Bengal, Tamil Nadu, Madhya
Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh and Delhi.
Earlier, welcoming the dignitaries and participants Dr S J Chopra, Chancellor said that UPES is committed towards all
round development of students and will keep encouraging them towards such kinds of ventures. Present on this
occasion were Dr Devraj Singh, Corporate Legal Head of Tata Steels, Dr Kamal Bansal, Dean of Engineering, Dr Tabrez
Ahmed , Director of College of Legal Studies, Mr Sanjeev Zutshi, Senior Director (Operations), Mr Arun Dhand, Director –
Media Affairs, senior members of faculty and staff . Dr Shrihari, Vice Chancellor in his vote of thanks praised the heartfelt
speech of Mr R S Meena the Chief Guest and assured him on behalf of UPES that his challenge is accepted and UPES
students will begin working towards it with immediate effect.
The various events were in full swing till late evening in both campuses of UPES, Winners would be recognized and
awarded at the “Valedictory” ceremony tomorrow evening.
