Roundup
Welcome every
new month so
pre- ciously that it show-
ers its lights on you. Have a nice
day with welcome March. This
month we started with a new col-
umn on College roundup, the objec-
tive is to have Networking beyond
WhatsApp, since Networking is not
about just connecting people. It's
about connecting people with peo-
ple, people with ideas, and people
with opportunities and our Campus
connect section gives us an oppor-
tunity to know the team behind
every department which has al-
lowed collaborating our faculties to
capture each other's strength of
collective intelligence. I am becom-
ing more curious about ideas than
the people who share it, our articles
idea have been getting generated
only through our forwards, in that
row, I touch the Ph.D. Viva voce
part this month. Once again I invite
all to make use of this platform to
showcase your ideas. Please feel
free to give suggestions apart from
your contributions. Thank you.

Guide for Ph.D. viva voceA
1. Submit a thesis, which make you
proud
2. Choose the right examiners
3. Read your thesis as many times as
possible
4. Know your argument
5. Realise what you could have done
differently
6. Never doubt yourself
7. Relax the night before
8. Dress to impress
9. Take a copy of your thesis to the viva
10. Be positive on any comments and
criticisms
Dr. C.V. Suresh Babu
We are all grown up and groomed with Konnar
Guides, which always given us a confident and made
us exam ready, here is a tips in the same format for
you to face your Ph.D viva voce examination. Submit-
ting your PhD thesis is a massive achievement – but
it’s not the end of the journey, next comes, viva voce.
There are Ten Commandments for Viva voice prepa-
ration. The primary objective of viva voce is to:
ī‚ˇī€  confirm that the thesis is your own work;
ī‚ˇī€  confirm that you understand what you have writ-
ten;
ī‚ˇī€  investigate your awareness of where your original
work sits in relation to the wider research field;
ī‚ˇī€  Provide a developmental opportunity for consider-
ing future publication and research options.
Examiners
Examiners have different personalities,
styles, and levels of experience. Some-
times a candidate may feel that a chal-
lenge has been made in a offensive way.
They will seek to find and discuss weak-
nesses in all theses. You should not in-
terpret criticism as an indication that
you will not get a constructive outcome.
Examiners will not be improperly chal-
lenging, but some individuals are popu-
lar for such approaches. In such situa-
tions, follow the Do’s and Don’ts they
are:
Don’t:
ī‚ˇī€  give a general, resigned declaration
that ‘this happens in every study’;
ī‚ˇī€  blame your supervisor for the weak-
ness;
ī‚ˇī€  blame your data;
ī‚ˇī€  say ‘that was beyond the scope of my
study’, without giving a cogent argu-
ment to support the statement;
ī‚ˇī€  dismiss what is identified as a weak-
ness as unimportant.
Do’s: A better approach is to:
ī‚ˇī€  take time to consider before replying;
ī‚ˇī€  remember to breathe and to speak
reasonably slowly;
ī‚ˇī€  don’t take criticism personally;
ī‚ˇī€  don’t take offence;
ī‚ˇī€  don’t get angry;
ī‚ˇī€  enjoy the opportunity to talk about
your research.
Create a list of viva questions, here we
have a 40 Frequently Asked viva Ques-

always equipped to encounter these

  • 2. P A G E 2 C O M P U T E R S C I E N C E V O L U M E 1 Guide for Ph.D. viva voceA 1. Submit a thesis, which make you proud 2. Choose the right examiners 3. Read your thesis as many times as possible 4. Know your argument 5. Realise what you could have done differently 6. Never doubt yourself 7. Relax the night before 8. Dress to impress 9. Take a copy of your thesis to the viva 10. Be positive on any comments and criticisms Dr. C.V. Suresh Babu We are all grown up and groomed with Konnar Guides, which always given us a confident and made us exam ready, here is a tips in the same format for you to face your Ph.D viva voce examination. Submit- ting your PhD thesis is a massive achievement – but it’s not the end of the journey, next comes, viva voce. There are Ten Commandments for Viva voice prepa- ration. The primary objective of viva voce is to: ī‚ˇī€  confirm that the thesis is your own work;  ī‚ˇī€  confirm that you understand what you have writ- ten;  ī‚ˇī€  investigate your awareness of where your original work sits in relation to the wider research field;  ī‚ˇī€  Provide a developmental opportunity for consider- ing future publication and research options.  Examiners Examiners have different personalities, styles, and levels of experience. Some- times a candidate may feel that a chal- lenge has been made in a offensive way. They will seek to find and discuss weak- nesses in all theses. You should not in- terpret criticism as an indication that you will not get a constructive outcome. Examiners will not be improperly chal- lenging, but some individuals are popu- lar for such approaches. In such situa- tions, follow the Do’s and Don’ts they are: Don’t: ī‚ˇī€  give a general, resigned declaration that ‘this happens in every study’;  ī‚ˇī€  blame your supervisor for the weak- ness;  ī‚ˇī€  blame your data;  ī‚ˇī€  say ‘that was beyond the scope of my study’, without giving a cogent argu- ment to support the statement;  ī‚ˇī€  dismiss what is identified as a weak- ness as unimportant.  Do’s: A better approach is to: ī‚ˇī€  take time to consider before replying;  ī‚ˇī€  remember to breathe and to speak reasonably slowly;  ī‚ˇī€  don’t take criticism personally;  ī‚ˇī€  don’t take offence;  ī‚ˇī€  don’t get angry;  ī‚ˇī€  enjoy the opportunity to talk about your research.  Create a list of viva questions, here we have a 40 Frequently Asked viva Ques- tions (FAQ), like Alibaba, keep yourself always equipped to encounter these questions. 1.
