 Brainstorming is a individual and group creativity
technique by which efforts are made to find a
conclusion for specific problem by gathering a list
of ideas spontaneously contributed by its members.
 The term was popularized by Alex Faickney
Osborn in the 1953 book applied imagination.
Types of Brainstorming
 Individual Brainstorming
 Group Brainstorming

Individual Brainstorming
 When you Brainstorm on your
own you don’t have to worry about
other people’s egos or opinions an
you can be free and more creative
 For individual Brainstorming
choose a comfortable place to sit
and think
 Minimize distractions, focus on
the problem at hand, using mind
maps to arrange and developed
ideas.
Group Brainstorming:
 There is an advantage of full
experience and creativity of
all team members.
 When one member gets stuck
with an idea another members
creativity and experience can
take ideas to the next stage
Steps for a run a group
Brainstorming effectively
 Prepare the group
 Present the problem
 Guide the discussion
 Encourage
 Write down all the solutions
 Do not evaluate ideas until the session moves to the evaluation phase
 Do not censor any solution, no matter how silly it sounds
 The leader should keep the brainstorming subject and should try to
steer it towards the development of some practical solutions.
 Analysing the ideas
‘BUZZ’ session
 A buzz session consist in dividing an audience into
small groups to discuss an issue or carryout task
 The group works simultaneously in the same
room.
 The word ‘buzz’ comes from resulting noise
uses
 A large number of ideas can be collected in a short
time
 Each participation have an opportunity to speak
 Provide valuable feedback information to resource
person
Advantages
 Encourage students to speak
 Encourage students to share ideas
 Encourage student’s group work skill
 Improve students confidence
 Encourage them to learn from others
 It shows you what your students already know
 Encourage student's creativity
 All ideas are accepted
 Makes everyone part of team
 Exciting and easy
Disadvantages:
 Only works when everyone in the room has
something to say
 Without strict control ,the group may take a long
time to get the discussion
 People with high emotion are not allowed
