 A successful advancement initiative is the result of a
series of steps taken one at a time, in the proper
sequence, according to a plan and timeline.
 At any particular time, leaders should be concerned
with only one step.

Next Steps
Involve Board and Committees.
Present to full Board for approval.
Share with constituency.
Final Steps
Prioritize funding components.
Create Case for Support.
Use the case document in ALL solicitation calls.
Campaign/Major Gift Preparation
1. Case for Support :
 Describes what will be funded and why;
the vision, the rationale - resulting from
the strategic plan.
2. Prospect Identification:
 Financial potential. Find the wealth.
3. Marketing Materials:
 Case statement brochure, theme, video.
4. Capitalization Plan:
 Create the financing plan for the project.
5. Volunteer Leadership:
1. Chair, Steering Committee.

MG/capital campaign.
Should be informative but succinct.
Includes the mission, vision, planning process,
planning conclusions, funding components,
amount required, leadership, giving pyramid.

  • 2. Step by Step  A successful advancement initiative is the result of a series of steps taken one at a time, in the proper sequence, according to a plan and timeline.  At any particular time, leaders should be concerned with only one step.
  • 3. Step by Step  If that step is not executed properly, the next will be more difficult.  If that step is executed properly, the next will be easier and more effective.
  • 4. Step 1  VISION  To Support Mission
  • 5. Start at the Beginning Vision begins with the President, Principal, Head of School. Discernment process with faculty, staff, administration. Create strategic plan.
  • 6. Next Steps Involve Board and Committees. Present to full Board for approval. Share with constituency.
  • 7. Final Steps Prioritize funding components. Create Case for Support. Use the case document in ALL solicitation calls.
  • 8. Campaign/Major Gift Preparation 1. Case for Support :  Describes what will be funded and why; the vision, the rationale - resulting from the strategic plan. 2. Prospect Identification:  Financial potential. Find the wealth. 3. Marketing Materials:  Case statement brochure, theme, video. 4. Capitalization Plan:  Create the financing plan for the project. 5. Volunteer Leadership: 1. Chair, Steering Committee.
