3. Early life of Samuel Taylor Coleridge.

 Coleridge was born on 21 October 1772 .
 In the country town of lottery S t Mary, Devon,
England.
 Reverend John Coleridge – (1718-1781)
 Coleridge suggests that he “took no pleasure in
boyish sports”
 But instead read “incessantly" and played by
himself.
 After john Coleridge died in 1781,8-year old Samuel
was sent to Christ’s Hospital.

4. Two condition of poetry.
 (1) The power of exciting the sympathy of the reader by
a faithful adherence to the truth of nature.
 (2) the power of giving the interest of novelty by
modifying with the colors' of imagination.

 Coleridge attended Jesus college Cambridge.
 1792-he won the Browne Gold medal .
 In December 1793 he left the college .
 In the Royal Dragoons using false name “Silas Tomkyn
Comberbache”
 Because the girl that he loved, Mary Evans had
rejected him.

should be ,to quote Coleridge.
 “The sudden charm ,which accident of light and shade ,
which moon light or sun –set diffused over a known and
familiar landscape, appeared to represent the practicability
of combining both .These are of poetry of nature”.
