English novelist poet,
Journalist translator
and one of Leading
writers of the
Victorian Era.
 She used a male pen
name she said to
ensure that her works
would be taken
seriously.
 George Eliot was born on 22 November 1819
in England.
 She died on 22December 1880.
 Eliot’s Middlemarch has been described by
the novelists Martin Amish and Julian
Barnes as the greatest novel in the English
Language.
Her Life
 She also Translator, poet, Journalist and one of
the leading writers of the Victorian Era.
 After the success of Adam Bede ,Eliot
continued to write popular novel for the next
fifteen year.
 Her last novel was Daniel Deronda Published
in 1876, after which she and Lewes moved to
Witley , Surrey.
 The philosopher and critic George Henry
Lewes met events in 1854 they had decided to
live together.
