The How’s Life? report (http://oe.cd/how-is-life) charts the promises and pitfalls for people’s well-being in 35 OECD countries and 6 partner countries. It presents the latest evidence from 50 indicators, covering both current well-being outcomes and resources for future well-being, and including changes since 2005. During this period there have been signs of progress, but gains in some aspects of life have been offset by losses elsewhere. This fourth edition highlights the many faces of inequality, showing that gaps in people’s achievements and opportunities extend right across the different dimensions of well-being. It exposes divisions according to age, gender, and education, and reveals pockets of inequality in all OECD countries. It also brings to light the many well-being disadvantages that migrants face in adapting to life abroad. Additionally, the report examines governance as seen from the citizen’s perspective, revealing gaps between public institutions and the people they serve. Finally, it provides a country-by-country perspective, pinpointing strengths, challenges and changes in well-being over time in 41 country profiles.
How’s Life? is part of the OECD Better Life Initiative, which features a range of studies and analysis about people’s well-being and how to measure it, and includes the interactive Better Life Index website.
The January 2018 United States jobs report showed that the unemployment rate remained unchanged at 4.1% as 200,000 new jobs were created, with gains in construction, food services, health care, and manufacturing. The labor force participation rate and employment-population ratio both held steady while average hourly wages increased by $0.09 to $26.74. Unemployment rates by race and education level were provided.
How's Life? 2020: Measuring Well-being charts whether life is getting better for people in 37 OECD countries and 4 partner countries. This fifth edition presents the latest evidence from an updated set of over 80 indicators, covering current well-being outcomes, inequalities, and resources for future well-being. Since 2010, people’s well-being has improved in many respects, but progress has been slow or deteriorated in others, including how people connect with each other and their government.
REGRESSION ANALYSIS ON HEALTH INSURANCE COVERAGE RATEChaoyi WU
This document describes a study that uses multiple linear regression to model the rate of uninsured population in counties in Georgia. The study finds that the uninsured rate is closely related to demographic factors like age distribution, income levels, employment rates, gender distribution, and citizenship status. Specifically, counties with larger populations aged 18-24, higher median incomes, lower poverty rates, stronger job markets, and more native-born residents tended to have lower uninsured rates. The researchers used principal component analysis to address correlations between employment-related variables before selecting variables and building the regression model.

The unemployment rate dropped yet again in June, to 6.1 percent. However, total unemployment, which dropped only 10 basis points in June to 12.1 percent, is still double that official rate.
Total non-farm employment increased by 288,000 jobs, making June the fifth consecutive month of growth over 200,000 net new jobs. And, this growth was diverse, with the top three industry markets contributing only one-half of new jobs, and all but two subsectors showing net growth.

Demography Meets Psephology: the Impact of Changing Age Structure on Democrat...HKUST IEMS
This document discusses how population aging will impact democratic systems in Asian countries. It analyzes survey data on voter turnout by age group from several Asian countries between 2001-2016. Using these trends and UN population projections, it models how the distribution of "voters" by age will change between 2015-2050. It finds that most countries will see a large increase in the ratio of older to younger voters. This could impact voting systems and political orientations. More research is needed on how education levels, behavior changes, and feedback effects might alter these projections.

The document discusses President Obama's economic record and challenges ahead. It summarizes that while the recent US recovery has been comparatively strong, longer term challenges remain around middle class income growth, productivity growth, inequality, and labor force participation. It analyzes the impact of several Obama administration policies and provides counterfactual scenarios to demonstrate the importance of factors like productivity, inequality, and participation for middle class incomes.
Determinants of Changing Demographic Structure in AsiaHKUST IEMS
- Asian countries experienced a rapid demographic transition over a short period due to public health programs and medical technologies from Europe. This led to declining fertility rates and changing population age structures across the region.
- While East Asian countries like China and South Korea now have aging populations with fewer youth and more elderly, South Asian countries like India and Bangladesh still have youth bulges but will see aging increase in coming decades.
- All Asian countries will need to address declining support ratios, with fewer working age people to support more elderly. Countries will also need policies to deal with future labor shortages from aging workforces.
1) Taiwan's population is projected to peak at 23.7-23.8 million by 2021-2025 and decline to 17.3-19.7 million by 2060 due to low birth rates and an aging population.
2) By 2060, Taiwan's elderly population is projected to increase by 131% while its child and working age populations decline by 43.4% and 44.2% respectively.
3) The aging of Taiwan's population will significantly increase the dependency ratio, with the number of potential support persons declining from 5.6 per elderly person in 2016 to 1.3 in 2060.
This 2016 edition of the OECD Employment Outlook provides an in-depth review of recent labour market trends and short-term prospects in OECD countries.
According to the latest jobs report released by the US Department of Labor, the unemployment rate remained at 4.1% for the sixth straight month and average earnings rose by 8 cents an hour. Overall, the latest jobs report reflects a strong economy with March marking the 90th consecutive month of job gains.
About 28,8% of the South African population is aged younger than 15 years and approximately 9,0% (5,3 million) is 60 years or older. Of those younger than 15 years of age, the majority reside in Gauteng (21,5%) and KwaZulu- Natal (21,1%). Of the elderly (those aged 60 years and older), the highest percentage 23,9% (1,27 million) reside in Gauteng. The proportion of elderly persons aged 60 and older is increasing over time.

Participation of Women in Public AdministrationUNDP Uzbekistan
The document discusses Uzbekistan's development goals and challenges towards 2030. It notes that to achieve the ultimate goal of becoming an upper-middle income country, structural reforms are needed such as transforming the GDP structure and patterns of enterprises. Expanding women's role in public administration is identified as an important reserve factor to accelerate this transition to a new growth pattern. Currently, women's representation in public administration is low at around 5-16% despite measures taken. The document outlines that to have a catalytic effect, the share of women needs to exceed 16-18% critical value. It proposes focusing on improving education quality, expanding higher education enrollments, and short-term courses for women to develop the necessary human capital. Strengthen
Lockdown saves lives but isn't sustainable. A twin-track strategy of containment and shielding can prevent deaths and slow the spread of the virus as suppression measures are eased. Containment measures like mass testing, contact tracing apps, and masks can reduce transmission without lockdown. Shielding the vulnerable allows reducing deaths even if transmission accelerates. However, containment and shielding capacity is limited in many countries, risking a return to lockdown.
A broken social elevator? How to promote social mobility.
Presentation by Stefano Scarpetta, Director for Employment, Labour and Social Affairs, OECD
Webinar 15 June 2018.
This document discusses a framework for linking policies to living standards through inclusive growth. It proposes that the framework should provide a clear link between dimensions of welfare (like income, health, education) and policies, identify transmission channels, and make policy tradeoffs explicit while being adaptable. The framework models welfare as outcomes of a production function influenced by policies. The document then examines how specific policies influence key outcomes like income generation, health, and income distribution for different countries.

The document analyzes statistical data from the World Bank on women's employment, education, health, and financial stability in Ireland and other European countries in 2017. It finds that 45% of Ireland's labor force are women, mostly working in the services sector. Unemployment of female workers in Ireland dropped from 12.5% in 2011 to 6.3% in 2017. Higher rates of female education enrollment are correlated with higher female employment. While HIV rates among Irish women decreased from 38% to 33.5% from 2011 to 2017, only 70% have access to anti-retroviral drugs. Most female deaths result from non-communicable diseases. Overall, employment and living standards for women in Ireland have increased positively in
This document summarizes a study on rural livelihood structure and poverty in Mkinga District, Tanzania. The study found that gender of household head, marital status, access to finance, dependency ratio, and household size were significantly associated with poverty. Specifically, households headed by females or with more dependents and larger household sizes were more likely to be in poverty. The study also found that access to financial services could help households diversify their incomes and reduce risk of being in poverty. Overall, the study suggests rural livelihoods should not be viewed solely as dependent on agriculture and land access, but require a range of resources to improve living standards and reduce poverty in rural areas.

Development of Over-Line Survey Systems for Monitoring Pipelines v1.0 - uploa...David Simmonds
1) Researchers developed an over-line survey system to measure AC voltage and current density on pipelines to identify areas at risk of AC-induced corrosion.
2) Field trials showed that readings from a standard copper wire underestimated actual AC current density by up to 60% due to inductive effects.
3) Models were created to calculate the true AC current density based on measurements and inductance values, resulting in estimates within 10% of actual values.

This document discusses research comparing Medicaid enrollment counts from the American Community Survey (ACS) and Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) administrative data before and after the implementation of the Affordable Care Act. It presents data showing larger increases in enrollment and larger differences between ACS and CMS counts in states that expanded Medicaid compared to non-expansion states. Tables and figures analyze enrollment changes from 2013 to 2014 and differences between ACS and CMS counts for states with the largest and smallest enrollment increases. The findings suggest misreporting of Medicaid coverage in surveys may have increased more in expansion states post-ACA.
The document discusses how universities are using data and analytics to communicate important information about their institutions. The document summarizes economic trends and outlook for the Washington D.C. area economy. It finds that the regional economy has grown steadily since the recession, with rising GDP, household income, and employment. Job growth has been strongest in professional and business services. Housing prices have also risen significantly. Going forward, the regional economy is well-positioned due to strengths in sectors like education, health, and technology, but faces challenges from high costs of living, unreliable transportation, and risk from federal budget cuts.
The document provides an overview of aging trends in the Atlanta region. It notes that the population aged 65+ has nearly doubled since 1960 and will almost double again by 2050 to over 21% of the population. Currently Fayette County has the highest percentage of older residents while Clayton County has the lowest. The number of older people employed rebounded after the pandemic and is now the highest in 5 years, with those aged 65+ making up a growing share of total employment. The working age population is forecast to increase only 17% by 2050 compared to a 46% rise in non-working ages, reducing the dependency ratio.

Enrollment varies between segments, with the University of Massachusetts seeing growth from international students. The profile of new undergraduate students in 2015 is also presented, showing over half enrolled at community colleges and most were in-state, white, and female.
The document summarizes economic trends in Atlanta and nationally. It finds that while recovery from the recession continues, with GDP and employment increasing, progress has been slow. Job growth has primarily occurred in lower-wage sectors, holding down wage growth. Unemployment rates remain higher for minorities and less educated groups. However, leading indicators like increasing job postings in high-tech fields, rising patent activity, and forecasts predict potential growth in higher-wage sectors going forward.
The document discusses pathways to economic opportunity through regional networks that integrate college and career experiences into high school. It summarizes research showing gaps in high school graduation, college enrollment, and degree attainment rates based on income, race, and ethnicity. Models like early college high schools and career academies aim to address these gaps by providing work-based learning opportunities and a clear path to postsecondary credentials. Regional networks in California are working to co-design, co-deliver, and co-validate learning experiences across high schools and colleges to better prepare young people for careers. While this approach shows early progress, challenges remain around leadership capacity, community buy-in, and coordinating competing initiatives.
This document summarizes an economic forecast for Arizona presented at a luncheon. It finds that while Arizona has experienced strong job growth and remains a top state for population increases, long-term measures of economic prosperity like per capita income and GDP per worker rank the state below average. The forecast predicts Arizona will see a third consecutive year of job growth in 2017 at 3.0% but notes the greatest risk to the state's economy comes from the national business cycle. Key factors for the state's continued growth are its labor force, quality of life, and cost structure.

LAND USE LAND COVER AND NDVI OF MIRZAPUR DISTRICT, UPRAHUL
This Dissertation explores the particular circumstances of Mirzapur, a region located in the
core of India. Mirzapur, with its varied terrains and abundant biodiversity, offers an optimal
environment for investigating the changes in vegetation cover dynamics. Our study utilizes
advanced technologies such as GIS (Geographic Information Systems) and Remote sensing to
analyze the transformations that have taken place over the course of a decade.
The complex relationship between human activities and the environment has been the focus
of extensive research and worry. As the global community grapples with swift urbanization,
population expansion, and economic progress, the effects on natural ecosystems are becoming
more evident. A crucial element of this impact is the alteration of vegetation cover, which plays a
significant role in maintaining the ecological equilibrium of our planet.Land serves as the foundation for all human activities and provides the necessary materials for
these activities. As the most crucial natural resource, its utilization by humans results in different
'Land uses,' which are determined by both human activities and the physical characteristics of the
land.
The utilization of land is impacted by human needs and environmental factors. In countries
like India, rapid population growth and the emphasis on extensive resource exploitation can lead
to significant land degradation, adversely affecting the region's land cover.
Therefore, human intervention has significantly influenced land use patterns over many
centuries, evolving its structure over time and space. In the present era, these changes have
accelerated due to factors such as agriculture and urbanization. Information regarding land use and
cover is essential for various planning and management tasks related to the Earth's surface,
providing crucial environmental data for scientific, resource management, policy purposes, and
diverse human activities.
Accurate understanding of land use and cover is imperative for the development planning
of any area. Consequently, a wide range of professionals, including earth system scientists, land
and water managers, and urban planners, are interested in obtaining data on land use and cover
changes, conversion trends, and other related patterns. The spatial dimensions of land use and
cover support policymakers and scientists in making well-informed decisions, as alterations in
these patterns indicate shifts in economic and social conditions. Monitoring such changes with the
help of Advanced technologies like Remote Sensing and Geographic Information Systems is
crucial for coordinated efforts across different administrative levels. Advanced technologies like
Remote Sensing and Geographic Information Systems

Changes in vegetation cover refer to variations in the distribution, composition, and overall
structure of plant communities across different temporal and spatial scales. These changes can
occur natural.

26. What might explain the rise in employer skill requirements within middle-skill
occupations during the Great Recession?
Demand-Side Explanations
Factors that differentially affect demand for low-skilled jobs, affecting the
composition of vacancies within occupations.
• Local demand shocks
• Credit market constraints
• Changes in technology
• Changes in policy
Supply-Side Explanations
Factors that differentially affect supply of lower-skilled workers, affecting the
composition of applicants within occupations and their relative value.
• Increased supply of labor (e.g. number of applicants)
• Changing composition of the workforce (e.g. quality of applicants)

34. Why does upskilling occur? During a recession, the college wage premium for newly hired
workers decreases so employers can essentially hire college educated workers “on the cheap.”

35. Our results suggest two key implications for labor market policy going forward.
The demand for skilled workers is perhaps more dynamic and responsive to labor market
conditions than previously thought.
This finding suggests the need for worker training and education programs to be
increasingly targeted and nimble.
Re-evaluation of the Workforce Investment Act
Some states are re-designing their worker training and education programs.
One possibility is to make greater use of real-time labor market information contained in
online job postings to be able to:
Help unemployed workers search more efficiently
Provide guidance to individuals when selecting a training program or field of study
Assist administrators when designing programs at colleges and other institutions that aim to
train workers to meet employer demands.
