After the genre research we have found different conventions that horror
films follow.
 It uses a hard light source that enhances shadows in a shot and makes it
look more dramatic.
 We intend to follow it because this convention plays a massive part in all
horror films as it creates a sense of fear, mystery and it allows the
audience imagination to run wild with what might be concealed within
the darkness. It is also a key element in all horror films and it is never
missing from them no matter what subgenre they are.
 This shots are usually used on the victim’s face to help give the audience
personal identity as they are seeing the person’s emotions very close. It
helps make them scared and try avoid them to see everything because
the less you see the more scared you are, giving them visceral pleasure.
 We are going to try follow this convention because by showing the
emotion of our character we are going to make the audience feel more
involved in the film and we want them to feel as scared as possible for
them to remember our production.
 This way of editing creates an unsettled feeling
amongst the audience while they can be at the edge of
their seats.
 We will definitely follow this convention because a
horror film is only scary if jump cuts and quick cuts are
present as the next shot can come as a surprise.
 This type of shots aid to make the audience feel
confused about what is happening they are not able
to comprehend everything.
 We will probably break this convention because by
doing so and having steady shots the audience
might feel comfortable watching the film which
contradicts the narrative as they should feel unease.
 Conventional binary oppositions in a horror can be
good vs evil, unnatural vs natural and known vs
unknown.
 We are intending to have present in our production
all these oppositions by the use of different
characters that may be in conflict with each other.
 Different types of sound like incidental music,
stings, contrapuntal sounds, dissonant and atonal
music are very often present in horror films. Sound
is something that is vital to make a horror film
successful.
 We will be using contrapuntal and dissonant music
for our production. We want that for some shots the
music doesn’t match the action going on in shot.
This creates a feeling of disorientation and unease
that will make our production memorable.
 Most horror films have voice over them. Normally a
narrator that tells the story going on in the film
 It creates a sense of personal identity as the
audience is being directly spoken to.
 We will not be following this convention because we
don’t think it suits our narrative as the story that is
being told will be narrated by one of the character
already.
