2. Camera shots
Our film is like real media thrillers when it comes to the camera shots we use in our
film we have used a multiple of camera shots such as extreme long shot, long shot,
full shot, median shot, median close up and close up all theses shots are used in real
thrillers. In many psychological thrillers they use the exact same camera shots to
shoot scenes to create the exact suspense as we tried to create.
3. Camera angles
In our film we used the exact same camera angles as they use in real media thrillers.
In a psychological thriller they use low angled shots and high angled shots to show
who the more dominate and more shy/soft characters are we also did this is our own
film to show who the more powerful intimidating characters are and who the scared
intimidated character is, the camera shots help the audience to understand the role of
each character.
4. Sound
In a real thriller movie they use sound to create suspense especially in a psychological
thriller to play with the minds of the audience and to inform them whenever a
suspicious scene is coming up. In our film we used sound to create a constant
suspense in our film the sound helped in our film to show the most dramatic scene of
the film and engaged the audience.
5. Mise-en-scene
In a real thriller they take their mise-en-scene seriously and make sure their actors are
provided with all the right costumes and props. They make sure they have their
correct lighting for each seen they make sure their sets are appropriate and the
location of the film suits the theme and make sure the space looks as natural as
possible my group also did this by making sure the characters where wearing the
same costumes throughout our film and the props used where appropriate and not
random. The location of our film took place in a foster house and we was provided
with a house to shoot the lighting worked in our favour to create dark tension and
the relationship between the actor and the camera was natural.
6. Narrative(plot)
In a real psychological thriller the main character is a protagonist and is always
portrayed as a weak individual who the audience watching will root for ion our
psychological film we did the same thing with our main character making her a
stereotypical weak female which the audience feel sorry for. In a real psychological
thriller the antagonist which is the character that the audience don’t really expect to
behave in a dark manner and also starts to reveal themselves as the film goes on
during the end fully manifesting their true self, in our film we did the same thing
making the antagonist people you wouldn’t really expect we used females for this
role as well who are very similar to the protagonist which will play with the audience's
mind.
7. Challenges to the Genre
The genre we choose which was psychological was very difficult for us to film because
we have to focus on the views of the people watching and had to make sure they will
understand the plot in a psychological thriller its very easy for the audience to lose
the message of their film and can easily because confused so in our film we made
sure that the plot was very clear but was still able to bring psychological aspect which
are meant to confuse the audience's mind and make them think more.
Our film challenged the overall genre by not completely following the pattern a real
psychological film would follow. In our film the conflict between the characters where
more physical rather than mental and emotional which is what most psychological
thrillers use.
