Canada s Immigration And Refugee Protection Act
Canada s Immigration Policies: Canada s Immigration and Refugee Protection Act (IRPA)
determines whether or not someone is eligible to immigrate to Canada. There are 3 different
sections of the policy, but in general, it factors in nationality, age, language ability, family members,
education, work experience, and income. Within the different areas of the immigrationpolicy, which
are economic, family reunification, and refugee, there are more specific things looked at in
applicants. In the economic area, applicants are rewarded points based on their level of education,
ability to speak English and/or French, income, and previous work experience. The family
reunification section includes spouses and children joining family members that are already living
in Canada, or same sex couples that are not legally married if there are restrictions in the country
they are coming from. These immigrants have to provide proof and demonstrate that they are
related to, married to, or in a committed relationship with the person they claim to be joining. A
smaller portion of the immigrants coming to Canada are considered to be refugees. Refugees must
be part of a humanitarian resettlement program, which is a Canadian program that helps people
seeking protection outside of Canada with the help of international partners, or claim for asylum
protection, which is where Canada provides protection for those who would be in danger if they
returned to their own country.

A Group Of Advisory Councillors From Google
SUMMARY
A group of advisory councillors from Google wrote a report on The Right to Be Forgotten policy
in 2015. This policy was created in an effort to offer a balance between freedom of expression and
the press. The Right to be Forgotten offers citizens the ability to request for their information to be
removed from the results of a Google search. The removal of these search results, or links, upon
the request of an individual is referred to as delisting (Floridi et al., 2015). Delisting allows web
users to maintain and protect their privacy by limiting the public s access to information about them.
It is important to note, however, that while citizens may apply to be delisted, Google does not have
to comply with this request. Google ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
On the other hand, citizens should have the right to access information that is germane to the public.
HIGHLIGHTS OF THE POLICY
The policy first outlines the nature of the rights at issue in the ruling. Google must decide whether
the general public should have the right to easily access an individual s information via the search
engine. Google must also consider if the individual requesting to delist experiences harm from
[public] accessibility to the information (Floridi et al., 2015, p. 6).
Next, the policy addresses the way in which Google must assess each delisting request according
to four key pieces of criteria: the data subject s role in public life, the nature of the information,
the source, and time (Floridi et al., 2015). When evaluating the data subject s role in public life,
Google considers three different types of citizens: individuals with a public personality (e.g.
politicians), individuals with no public personality (i.e. average citizens), and those with a defined
role in public life (e.g. school directors). Ultimately, the more involved a citizen is in the public
sphere, the less likely they are to be delisted.
Google also considers the nature of the information. Financial records, private contact information,
and false information, are all deemed worthy of privacy according to Google. If, however, the
information biases toward a public interest (e.g. information related to criminal offences),

Position Paper For The World Health Organization
Position Paper for the World Health Organization
The topics before the World Health Organization (WHO) are: Climate Change and Health, and
Global Burden of Mental Disorders and the Need for a Comprehensive, Coordinated Response
from Health and Social Sectors at the Country Level. The United States of America expresses
concern for these issues and is looking forward to collaborating with Member States to find
adequate and long lasting solutions.
I. Climate Change and Health
The United States of America acknowledges the threat climate change poses to health and stresses
the importance of strengthening health systems to manage adverse outcomes. Through the
Sustainable and Climate Resilient Health Care Facilities Initiative (SCRHCFI), the U.S. has
provided tools and information to health officials to better prepare for natural disasters. The
Climate Ready States and Cities Initiative (CRSCI) has funded 18 state and local health
departments to improve the capacity of vulnerable communities to deal with health challenges
associated with climate change. In 2013, we created the Climate Action Plan (CAP) with the goals
of cutting carbon pollution in America and improving climate resilience at the state and local level.
Since then, the U.S. has expanded the goals to reach a global scale and by partnering bilaterally
with India, we have invested $125 million towards advancing clean energy. Additionally, The
United States has taken action through initiatives such as the Clean Power

Population, Population And Developing Countries
In the world today, nations are classified into developed countries and developing countries. A
developed country is a sovereign state that has a highly developed economy and is advanced in
technology. These countries are most likely going to have a more organized government and a
society where people are making money. On the other hand, a developing countryis a poor
agricultural country that is seeking to become more advanced economically and socially (Google).
Two major issues among developing countries are population and starvation. Ethiopia is a great
example of where starvation and population make Ethiopia the developing nation it is. A good
country to contrast with Ethiopia is the United States, a highly developed nation. Although the
United States faces these same issues, it is a much greater problem in Ethiopia. The nations of
the United States and Ethiopia can be compared and contrasted because they both face the issues
of starvation and population growth. A major problem in a developing country like Ethiopia is
starvation. In a country like Ethiopia with about 100 million people, at least twenty million face
food shortages. This means one and every four people have little to no food. The main source of
starvation in Ethiopia is El NiГ±o. El NiГ±o is a complex series of climatic changes severely
affecting the Pacific Ocean. Ethiopia is constantly hit by El NiГ±o, causing extreme droughts
throughout the country. Without water, the droughts have caused crop failure

The Prevalence Of Refractive Errors In Children
Refractive errors are the result of misaligned optical components within the eye causing improper
focusing of light onto the retina. Although the optical components may vary by a minute amount,
the resulted blurred vision will not only affect the individual but also society in terms of the health
industry, education, research and socioeconomics. As a result of the impact of refractive errors,
there has been an increasing emphasis for research and action plans placed by eyehealth
organisations and the government on the development, prevention and control of refractive errors.
As a child s eye begins to develop and undergo emmetropization, there is a dynamic change to the
optical components such as the crystalline lens, cornea and axial length. ... Show more content on

The most common cause of visual impairment is due to uncorrected refractive error. 2 Studies by
researchers by the Brien Holden Vision Institute approximates the cost to correct refractive errors to
be US$20 045 million.2 The correction of refractive errors make a worthwhile investment as
uncorrected refractive errors cause an estimated US$91,300 million US$327,000 million loss in
productivity. 2 In order to minimise this loss of productivity, it is imperative for the government to
support visual health sectors. Therefore, due to the high economic costs of refractive error, family,
communities and the government must implement preventative or corrective measures.
There are high costs for poverty stricken nations tackling uncorrected refractive errors. The
impact of blindness of a country can amount to $42 billion in 2000. 2 This large sum will be
very difficult to set aside and invest in eye health in developing countries. When eye health is left
untreated this will often increase the cost of repairing eye health issues which furthers the cycle of
decreasing eye health care. Therefore, it is ideal for developing countries to highly invest in
quality eye care as soon as they can afford to train health

Prescriptive English Essay
Linguists and other scholars who study language do not take prescriptive grammar rules
seriously. To them, understanding the meaning and function of words is more important than
correction. They belief that language is not an empirical fact and that it is not universal, there
are hundreds of dialects in a language which means that there are hundreds of grammars as well.
There is also no scientific validation that can be done on prescriptive grammar. The majority of
what native speakers know about their language wasn t taught to them explicitly but in an
implicit way through the communicative teaching approach which is a more natural way of
speaking and has more to do with whether the message the speaker tries to convey is
understood. One example of this is a very common one; a person says Can I use the bathroom?
which is grammatically wrong because of course he/she can, but the question should be May I
use the bathroom? which is asking for permission. If both of the questions are meant to be
understood in the same way by the person who is asking it and the person who is listening, why
should it be wrong? Some examples of popular, enduring prescriptive rules in English are that a
person shouldn t split infinitives, for example: He decided to quickly leave the room you should
say he decided quickly to leave the room. You shouldn t end a sentence with a preposition, for
example: which student did you talk to? you should say: To which student did you talk? Knowing

The inceptive goal of the project was to create a set of concrete guidelines for sustainable
procurement within UCLA Housing, with an emphasis on commonly used office supplies. The
current UCOP and H HS guidelines on purchasing are vague and makes it difficult for purchasers
to discern between what is environmentally preferred or what is not. Emma suggested for the team
to create a system of comprehensive purchasing standards that would streamline sustainable
procurement and maximize UCLA Housing s use of eco friendly goods. The team intended to
create the guidelines based on several third party certifications like the EPA s Comprehensive

Tobacco Smoke And Its Effects On Health
Tobacco smoke is immensely harmful to one s health. Cigarettes contain about 600 ingredients,
when this burned can generate 7,000 chemicals according to American Lung Association
Many ad campaigns and literatures have been published on the detriments of smoking. Medical
reports further shows that half of all long term smokers will die from a smoking related disease.
This unhealthy practice must be addressed by the government to lessen the medical cost to treat
the ill effects of smoking. Despite all available data available on smoking s ill effects government
has little success in reducing incidence of smoking.
The New Zealand Government is currently addressing a smoking problem in the country. The
government adopted the Smoke free 2025 goal for New Zealand, in March 2011. This response
was based on the recommendations of a landmark Parliamentary inquiry by the Maori Affairs select
committee. The committee s report was clear that the term smoke free was intended to
communicate an aspirational goal and not a commitment to the banning of smoking altogether by
2025. On that basis, the Government agreed with the goal of reducing smoking prevalence and
tobacco availability to minimal levels, thereby making New Zealand essentially a smoke free
nation by 2025 . (Health, 2014). It is important to have consistent information to help to monitor the
progress toward this goal.
The smoke free campaign in New Zealand for a smoke free 2025 is now on its fourth year. This

Different Situations Where Skills By Social Workers Are...
This essay will be discussing two different situations where skills by social workers are needed
when working with groups. I will define the term group and will be reflecting on my own
experiences of working within groups and what I have observed in regards to individuals,
behaviours and group dynamics. My examples are drawn from two particular situations where I
have been involved, which include a multi professional meeting and residential home for children
with disabilities. I will be drawing on knowledge from K216 materials and other sources.
A definition of group according to the Oxford Dictionary of Social Workand Social Care (2013) is
a number of individuals with a shared sense of identity and/or who are bound together by
interaction with each other . Groups may be categorised into sub groups such as: social group,
interest group, family group or task group. People may be members of these different groups;
however, their choice of membership may be unavoidable, voluntary or limited. For example,
attending school is compulsory for young people and therefore the school group is regarded as a
formal group . Whereas they are at liberty to choose their friendship group within the school,
therefore this is considered an informal group (Adams, 1993, p.309 ).
The first group situation I will discuss is a multi professional meeting. The meeting was one I
observed which gave me the opportunity to identify group challenges and skills. The meeting was

`` Pied Beauty `` By Gerard Manley Hopkins
Throughout recorded history, humans have accredited the happenings of nature to a higher
power; shown through religious beliefs past and present. The Greeks believed in a myriad of
gods and goddesses, who supposedly governed all aspects of life and nature. They believed in a
god or goddess to represent each part of nature from the sun to the sea; there was even a goddess
of rainbows. The Grecians used their religion to explain the elements of their world for which
they had no other explanation. Christians explain the natural world in a similar fashion. Instead
of a god or goddess for each individual piece of nature, they preach that nature was created and is
controlled by their God. The belief of divine control is a popular topic in literature; specifically
poetry. Pied Beauty written by Gerard Manley Hopkinsin 1877, and Design written by Robert Frost
in 1922 are just two examples of many that follow this trend. Gerard Manley Hopkins was a 19th
century, English, Victorian poet. He was brought up in a religious and artistic family, leading to
his becoming a poet and Jesuit priest (Reid). Alternatively, Robert Frost was a 20th century,
modern, American poet. Frost lived and taught in New England; through his poetry he described
much of its scenery and landscape (Gerber). Despite the differences in their lives and writing
styles, Frost and Hopkins developed poems of similar image and theme. Though Hopkins s Pied
Beauty and Frost s Design are of similar theme, their

the countries immense amount of debt and the constant nagging of their creditors, such as the IMF,
Zambia s local economy has deteriorated and the textile industry has vanished. However, there is
another issue present that has also contributed to the decline of Zambia s economy: the second hand

the IMF and keeps becoming more in debt and their economy keeps becoming weaker and more

Examples Of Altruism In I Am Legend
Even though selflessness will always be driven by serving one s values, feelings, or desires which
is ultimately serving you, altruism does exist. Altruism exists when it requires a person to sacrifice
for another without consideration of personal gain because not every act has a selfish motive.
People must learn to contribute to life through objective reality because it universalizes existence.
Everyday life is filled with small acts of altruism. Or maybe altruism does involve being self
interested after all. Some of the things that one does do not always mean they are selfish. Let s
use the movie, I am Legend starring Will Smith as an example. Robert Neville (Will Smith) lives in
New York and although he had the chance to leave with... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
To be honest, I know my essay is crap. I completely suck at philosophy and I don t know many
things. But I do know that being altruistic means also being selfish. Third world countries
probably view America as an altruistic hero because they basically help fight wars for other
people. But as Arundhati Roy said, Wars are never fought for altruistic reasons. Yes, soldiers do
sacrifice their lives fighting, but it s not (mostly) because they are altruistic, but because it s
their way of paying rent . The definition of altruism is the belief in or practice of disinterested and
selfless concern for the well being of others. But think about it, while helping others, don t you
also help yourself? Like you can say, hey I am going to help at a homeless shelter because I feel
altruistic today. A part of you is lying to yourself; you are going to a homeless shelter because
yes, you feel like helping others, but you are also helping yourself feel good, which is an act of
being self interested. The reason why people help others is because it makes them feel good. It
can vary anything from relieving stress to feeling guilty for something so they do something nice,
like help others, which makes them believe they have a higher chance of going to heaven. Other
people help others to be seen as a hero although none of these examples are true definition of the

Introduction Science Applications International Corporation has long enjoyed a very focused and
substantive self development program. However, the self development program for individual
employees is guided by management determination of where the employee best fits into the

By and large, employees have stated that management is too focused on task execution and not
enough on developing subordinates. Access to management is difficult within SAIC. The
hierarchical structure of the company promotes a disconnected workforce. The consequences of
SAIC leadership not recognizing employee perceptions could prove to be severe. Employee turn
over is high within many sectors of SAIC. This trend will continue if SAIC leadership does not
empower their employees with more self determination in self development.
Desired Future State The ideal state for self determination in the area of self development is to
allow the individual employee maximum latitude in accessing, enrolling, and completing three to
four self development modules annually. Many of these courses take an hour to complete on line.
SAIC leadership should cover the hours used for each employee through general overhead dollars.
Although this would prove to be costly, it would save the company millions in the long run. As an
alternative, employees could take these classes on their own time, if the overhead costs proved too
high. Most employees would not think twice about bettering themselves by giving up four hours of
time annually. SAIC is on the verge of transitioning to become a learning organization. The sheer
size of the company is a major obstacle however. In 2013, SAIC will split into two distinct
companies.

Essay On Rdf File Storage
Creation of Ontology Model and XML/RDF file storage
Given the advantages of using RDF (Lassila and Swick, 1999), (Susmitha and Thammi Reddy,

one is XML / RDF file format, the second one is a special XML / RDF database and the third one is
a traditional relational database. If small amounts of data is considered then it is preferable to go
with XML/RDF file storage, But if large amounts of data are considered where scalability, data

Birth Defects and the Millennum Development Goals Essay
Birth defects is a critical issue and this is reflected through the intersectionality of birth defects and
several of the Millennium Development goals. Birth defects is related to goals 4,5 and 6 which are
infant mortality, improving maternal health and environmental health. All of these goals are
interrelated of preventing and improving birth outcomes. The web of connections birth defects has
with the millennium development emphasize the importance of handling this issue.
Birth defects affects different nations across different severities. To understand the causes of birth

In many cases, two or more environmental factors may be interrelated or synergistic (Al Hadithi ,
Shabila, Saleh Al Diwan , 2012). Although the cause of most birth defects are unknown, certain
genetic and environmental factors increase the chance of birth defects developing. These factors
include exposure to radiation, certain drugs, alcohol, isotretinoin, accutane, nutritional deficiencies,
certain infections in the mother, injuries, and hereditary disorders. While some risks are avoidable
others occur no matter how strictly a pregnant woman adheres to healthful living practices.
Environmental substances that can cause birth defects are called teratogens. A teratogen is any
substance that can cause or increase the chance of a birth defect. Examples include radiation
(including x rays), certain drugs, and toxins (including alcohol). Most pregnant women who are
exposed to teratogens have newborns withabnormalities. Whether or not a birth defect occurs
depends on when, how much, and how long the pregnant woman was exposed to the teratogen.
For example, exposure to a teratogen during the time that certain parts of the brain are developing
is more likely to cause a defect in those areas than exposure before or after this critical period.

Sodium Borohydride Lab Report
The reduction of an aldehyde or ketone with sodium borohydride is an experiment that usually
produces a large yield of alcohol. The procedure involves dissolving an excess amount of sodium
borohydride in 95% ethanol and then adding a benzil to the solution. Sodium borohydride
reduces the carbonyl groups in the benzil and the acidification produces a diol or two secondary
alcohols. The overall purpose of this experiment was to determine the favored diastereomer in
the reduction of benzyl by sodium borohydride and to identify the diastereomer that was
produced. The identification was done by forming an acetal derivative and performing an 1H
NMR spectroscopy for confirmation. To understand the reaction, it is important to note that
sodium borohydride is a salt that is made up of a sodium cation and a borohydride anion. The
sodium ion is just a spectator ion that helps maintain a balance of charges. The important part of
the sodium borohydride is the B H bond. Boron is polarized as positive and hydrogen as
negative; therefore the B H bond is the source of the hydride ion. The reaction is as follows: The
product of the reaction when benzyl is reduced can create three stereoisomers. The first carbonyl
on the benzyl may be attacked by the hydride, which is either from the back, or the front, which
would give... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

One Flew over the Cuckoo s Nest- Book and Movie Comparison...
The Power of Words
In recent years, it has become popular for many of America s great literary masterpieces to be
adapted into film versions. As easy a task as it may sound, there are many problems that can arise
from trying to adapt a book into a movie, being that the written word is what makes the novel a
literary work of art. Many times, it is hard to express the written word on camera because the
words that express so much action and feeling can not always be expressed the same way through
pictures and acting. One example of this can be found in the comparison of Ken Kesey s novel,
One Flew Over the Cuckoo s Nest, and the film version directed in 1975 by Milos Forman. The
novel details the time that R.P. McMurphy, a criminal,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In the novel, Chief describes Nurse Ratched as having orange lips, orange fingertips, and a
perfect looking face. However, she is heavily endowed in the chest area, and Chief says that one
can tell that it makes her bitter to think about it. The novel makes the Nurse seem huge, in
describing her physically, and the other inmates refer to her as Big Nurse . In the film, she is a
petite lady that does not have a noticeably large chest in any way. It is hard to imagine the Nurse
without her chest, so it makes one wonder why the film does not include this aspect. In the novel,
when Nurse Ratched and McMurphy have a physical fight, McMurphy rips the front of her
starchy white uniform, exposing her breasts, and her vulnerability. At this point in the novel it
seems that McMurphy has won the battle, and it is one of the more symbolic parts of the story.
Since her chest does not become a matter of importance in the movie, this part of the novel is not
shown, and the reader may be left wondering why, as it certainly adds to the story and to the
characters of McMurphy and the Nurse.
McMurphy s description is also portrayed differently in the novel than in the film. In the novel, he
is described as a huge red headed criminal with sideburns, tattoos, and a hat on his head and a scar
on his nose that he is constantly rubbing. He seems bigger than life in these descriptions, but in the
film McMurphy is

Drug Court Reflection
When I came into Drug Court, I was lost and confused. I thought it was a joke and I thought I
could keep doing what I wanted to do. I thought the Judge and everyone on the team was just out
to get me. I didn t know who I was because I built my life on lies. I never aspired to anything
great. Being in Drug Court this long has shown me that the Judge and the Drug Court team
really do care about each and every one of us personally. I can see that the Drug Court team cares
and always has time for me no matter what, to give me so much encouragement. It wasn t until I
was in Drug Court that my life changed and I believe that I was headed for a prison sentence
which that didn t matter to me at the time. Drug Court showed that they believe in us, that we
are okay, and they really do care about us to take the time to help us. It has taught me to be more
of a responsible person. Going to jail was honestly one of the best things that ever happened to
me and I needed to be in there. I no longer wanted to be everyone s burden and the family
disappointment. I have realized what all I have put my mom through and I am sorry for all the
wrong I ve done, the sleepless nights, the broken promises, and the stealing of money. I m sorry
for the embarrassment I ve caused. I m sorry for all of the pain, arguments and stress. I want my
mom understand that I never intended to hurt her. I have learned a lot about myself that I never
knew existed, because the person I used to be is a totally different person than I am today. Me
wanting to changeis why I changed and I changed everything. If people didn t share the same
interest as me or I sensed any type of negativity that could rub off on me, I disassociated myself
with those people. If you decide to change you have to change everything, not just the areas that
are convenient for you. No one can force you to do it and some do it cause they are told to but
when they are done with their program, they end up going right back to where they started off.
Drug Court is not easy and I have sat through a lot of graduations, and I would always hear the
graduates say if I can do it so can you and I am sorry to say that is just not true, or everyone would

Raeka Natural Selection
Natural selection is one of the greatest sources of genetic variation in nature, causing individuals
of certain populations to diversify from other populations based on their environmental conditions
(Genetic Analysis). This is apparent in every aspect of animals within a certain population,
ranging from obvious differences in color and size, to something as specific as venom
composition in snakes of the same species (Aiyar, Raeka). For example, an Eastern diamondback
rattlesnake in the Florida panhandle area has a notably different composition of toxins in its venom
than a member of its same species about five hundred miles away (Aiyar, Raeka). However, a
recent study found something quite astonishing: the venom of the Eastern coral snake... Show more

phenomenon, stating We were shocked. This is the first time anyone has looked at venom
variation at this scale, and everybody has assumed that the co evolutionary arms race would cause
local populations to diverge quickly (Aiyar, Raeka). The research team proposed several
hypotheses to explain the absence of venom variation among these coral snakes, such as the
possibility of a recent population displacement or that the lack of variation is due to differences in
the dynamics of the coral snake and its reptilian prey versus the small animal preference of the
diamondbacks (Margres etc., 173). The research team is currently investigating genetic clues to

Place And Road
In this essay, three aspects of place and space will be discussed: the desire for place and space; the
corruption of place and space as well as the lack of place and space. Space is the unlimited extend
in an expanse, and a place is a specific part of space. In Kerouac s work On the Road, the writer
seeks to express the desire of American youth of his timefor freedom through place and space.
Moreover, Kerouac presents the lack of place and space through the narrator s own dissatisfaction to
demonstrate different emotions. Furthermore, the writer explores place and space through the
dynamic of the relationships between the main characters to portray a sense of hope for the readers.
In addition, the three aspects above will be discussed through a film s interpretation.
Kerouac explores the desire for more place and space through Sal s desire to travel away from his
miserable life, as he states that he often dreamed of going West to see the country , in which the
verb dreamed highlights Sal s revelation for freedom, which indicates his aspiration for the coming
adventures. Moreover, Kerouac ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Similarities Between The Birthmark And Rappaccini s Daughter
Nathaniel Hawthorne s The Birthmark and Rappaccini s Daughter are both fictional short
stories written in the 1800s. Although these are two different scenarios, both tend to share
several similarities. They deal with relationships between a man and woman, experiments, and
ironically ends with a twist that readers don t expect. In The Birthmark we first learn about the
main character named Aylmer. He is fascinated with science. He has devoted himself, however,
too unreservedly to scientific studies ever to be weaned from them by any second passion
(Hawthorne 952) He eventually finds love with his wife Georgianna, but there is something
about her he just will not seem to take much longer. Georgianna has a red birthmark on her cheek
which is the shape of a small hand. While she thinks it is beautiful, the most important person in
her life doesn t feel the same way. In fact, Aylmer is truly disgusted and in shock by her mark,
claiming it is a visible mark of earthly imperfection (Hawthorne 953). Finally telling his wife how
he feels, Georgianna is in disbelief. She is upset, hurt, and confused, even questioning their
marriage as she tells him You cannot love what shocks you! (Hawthorne 953). The last thing she
would have thought is that the person she planned to spend the rest of her life with doesn t see her
beauty mark the way she does. Aylmer begins to dream about removing this mark from Georgianna

Monster by Walter Dean Myers this is the most substantial problem, Steve Harmon, who is
sixteen and James King who is at the age twenty three are both being accused of the murder of a
man named Alguinaldo Nesbitt. The reason that Steve Harmon is being accused is because many
witnesses are saying they saw Harmon as wells as King at the store that was robbed and resulted
in the murder of Mr. Nesbitt. Witnesses and prisoners are telling what their truth is, during the trial

Antisocial Personality Disorder ( Aspd )
Antisocial personality disorder (ASPD), opposition defiant disorder (ODD), and conduct
disorder (CD) are three distinct disorders based upon their respective diagnostic criteria in the
DSM 5. If ODD and CD were mild forms of ASPD, then there would need to be causal
relationship between the childhood manifestations of ODD and CD and the adult manifestation
of ASPD. There is evidence of comorbidity between ODD and CD, and also evidence to suggest
that children diagnosed with these disorders may go on to develop ASPD later in life; however,
correlation does not equal causation. The three disorders have subtle but important differences
in their associated behaviors, underlying causes, treatment outcomes, and neurological signs. To
an untrained observer, ODD may appear as the mildest form of the three disorders; however, this
misunderstanding is based on observations of a limited set of behaviors that are characteristic of
ASPD which do not apply to ODD. ODD is an early onset disorder, and as such, the behaviors
characteristic of the disorder are characteristic of children: angry or irritable moods,
argumentative or defiant behavior, and vindictiveness. These behaviors are not present in ASPD
or CD. In fact, the defining characteristic that separates the behaviors observed in ODD and CD
disorders is that the behaviors observed in CD impedes the basic rights of others or violate the
major age appropriate societal norms but ODD exhibit internalized behaviors that may simply annoy

If a retailer prices its gasoline too high, and without regard to competition, the retailer s customers
may take their business to another station with lower prices. If a retailer loses enough volume, the
retailer may then reduce prices in order to retain its customers. When more people are on the road,
typically in the summer months or during holidays, the price will increase. Crude oil is the greatest
contributing factor when it comes to the price of gasoline. The resources it takes to remove it from
the ground, then transport it, and then refine it are the factors involved in pricing. The Organization
of the Petroleum Exporting Countries has a big part in the price as well in both in the United
States and around the world. Speculation of oil commodities can also affect the gasoline market.
The second major factor that contributes to gasoline prices is refining. Oil refining is done by
heating the oil with steam and only about 40 percent of what remains is gasoline. To produce more
refineries must chemically change some of the other products that were produced. Distribution and
marketing makes up the remaining 5%. The price of transporting crude oil to a refinery then
gasoline to a point of distribution is passed on to the consumer. In addition the price to market the
fuel brand is passed on to the consumer as well. Other factors affect gasoline prices such as
extreme weather, war or natural disaster in areas where oil is produced can also in turn

Prostate Cancer And Psa Testing
6.0Understanding Prostate Cancer
6.1A general discussion about prostate cancer in NZ
This cancer is unusual in that it takes a long time (15 20 years or more) to progress from a
localised state in the prostate to metastatic disease and death. Men whose cancer is in the localised
state may have no prostate symptoms, no bleeding or pain. The tumour is too small to cause
obstruction or LUTS (In older men coexisting BPH may cause LUTS, but there may be a cancer
present too).
Research on the incidence of Prostate Cancer and PSA testing in NZ MДЃori has shown that
although MДЃori have a decreased incidence compared to all men, their mortality rate is higher,
and there is a reduced rate of PSA testing. Pacific men have the same incidence and mortality as all
men.
A positive Family History of prostate cancer is significant, having a first degree relative (brother or
father) increases the risk by 2 2.5 times, if 2 or more the risk is increased by 5 11 times. There is a
genetic (hereditary disease) sub group that accounts for near 10% of cases, this is likely if three or
more relatives.
Prostate cancer occurs mainly in older men. Nearly two thirds are diagnosed in men aged 65 or
older, and it is rare before age 40. The average age at the time of diagnosis is about 67. Prostate
cancer is the second leading cause of cancer death in American men, behind only lung cancer. In

God also, uses a different order when who is to be bless in regards to males heirs as opposed to
female wives. With the male heirs, Cain, Able and Seth, Esau and Jacob, Ishmael and Isaac(Israel)

truly blessed. Yes, Racheal did give birth to Joseph whom would be the father of the twelve
tribes and a great leader to his people in Egypt and Benjamin would be the leader of ten tribes.
However, it is through God s plan and His desires that all must be achieved. Aside from the
human frailties and lack of faith in God, all must proceed according to Gods plan and Gods will.

Inner Ring Essay

Alex Arroyo
Professor Ledri Aguilar

Inner Rings and the Motives that Come Along C.S Lewis delivered a speech named The Inner
Ring at King s College, a University in London. As Lewis continues on in his speech, one may be
a little thrown off by what these inner rings are and what exactly they mean to people. Although
Lewis mentions both good and harmful inner rings, one could argue that most people find
themselves so caught up in these inner rings they do not even realize they are trying to be involved
in them for the wrong reasons. Some people strive to have a certain appearance that comes along
with being involved in these inner rings that they tend to forget what really is important to them. ...

Some of these inner rings are the reason we have competition, jealously and spite in the world. It
is not right for one to feel left out just because they do not have certain traits or don t have the
same views as another. Lewis even acknowledges this with his passage, Unless you take
measures to prevent it, this desire is going to be one of the chief motives of your life, from the
first day on which you enter your profession until the day when you are too old to care (Lewis
152). An example of today s inner ring would be fraternities at Colleges. People who aren t part
of a certain fraternity would feel left out when they see the Frat s doing activities only Frat
members are allowed to do. This might make one feel the need to fit in and do certain things they
do not enjoy just to be accepted in a fraternity. Although this particular example does not apply to
everybody, it still does not hide these inner rings because they can be found everywhere.

Another example of an inner ring existing is social class in itself. Rich hang out with the rich, poor
hang out with the poor. People obviously have different circumstances that make their social
class rich or poor, but the ring still exists. Lower class people feel left out when they see the
upper class driving nicer cars, eating expensive dinners, and living in expensive homes. While on
the other end, lower class workers are living pay check to

The concerns for the 5% of the Australian population who are currently facing food insecurity are
predominantly due to reduced access to nutritious food, particularly in rural and remote areas and

it needs and as such has numerous for opportunities for trade, including wheat, barley, diary and
beef.
While the majority of Australians live with food security, the long term forecast shows our current
food resources will be insufficient to feed the increased population, especially with alarming
climate change forecasts, nor is the demand sustainable for the environment, particularly in the beef

Women In the Iliad
The role of women in the Iliad is a subject that remains open to debate. Lefkowitz, in her article
The Heroic Women of Greek Epic, argues that without the role of women in the Iliad the story
would not have occurred (504 ).
Lefkowitz points out that the Iliad opens with a description of a plague that was caused as the
result of the capture of Chrysies by Agamemnon (504). Chryseis is the daughter of a priest named
Chryses. Chryses wants his daughter back, so he offers a ransom to Agamemnon to try to get him
to return his daughter. Agamemnon doesn t accept the ransom, so Chyrses prays to Apollo to help

Murphy states that, these women do not provoke action on frivolous pretexts nor yet on behalf of
the tribe or nation, for there is very little sense of nation in Old Icelandic literature (111).
Murphy begins his article discussing what a taunter does. He states that taunters, . ...fulfill a
special need in such societies, namely to probe the qualifications of an unknown `hero , or to
provoke the known hero into the kind of heroic act that society needs at a given time (105). He
uses Aeneas as an example of an official taunter in the Iliad.
Murphy then goes on to discuss the role of women in the Iliad. Murphy states that, Like the official
taunters they do not themselves participate physically in the frequently savage fighting and feuding
of the sagas which they often cause in a very direct and deliberate way by goading their men into
curses of action sometimes very much against those men s good judgment and mutual friendship
(111).
Murphy then goes on to discuss another subject; he does not go into depth about which character
may have played this role of an unofficial taunter. By interpretation one may infer that he is
referring to all the women in the Iliad. Let s look at Briseis for an example. Briseis played the role of
an unofficial taunter because she was the underlying reason for the feud between Agamemnon and
Achilles. There wasn t much information given about Briseis in the

However, based on the article, Malaysia Air s main union leaned on the country s politicians to
squash the share swap because of concerns about cost cuts. Those fears were well founded.
Malaysia Air has been bleeding losses because of rising competition and soaring fuel prices. The

expenses and help shore up Malaysia Air s balance sheet. AirAsia s shares have lost about a

US Military Conflicts and SIGINT Essay example
Over the course of last 100 years, the United States has been involved in over ten military
conflicts. With each and every conflict SIGINT collection and analysis has grown and matured. Of
all the SIGINT platforms no platform has had a more far reaching impact on the battle field then

`` Barbie Doll `` By Marge Percy
Marge Percy Barbie Doll is a social commentary about the demanding pressures that the mass
media produces about how women should look like and what type of body they should have.
Women in the 1970s faced high standards and these standards still go on to this day. These high
demands lead women to go above and beyond to meet standards that society has placed upon them.
Some of these drastic measures can lead to consequences. In Barbie Doll the main character
decided to undergo plastic surgery to fix her big nose and fat legs . Unfortunately she ended up
dying in her struggle to meet the standard that the media has placed on her at an exceptionally
young age. Her untimely death is a symbol and the theme of the poem that these women will
work themselves to death to meet societies demands and most of the time it is all for nothing. All
this women wanted was people to accept the way she looked and not critique her looks and it was
not until her funeral day, when it no longer mattered, that she finally got that acceptance. The
poem starts off just saying how the main character was born as usual . There is nothing wrong
with the main character and she is just a normal girl that played with Barbie dolls. It is not until
the fifth line that the magic of puberty finally hits the author. Sadly, it is during this time when the
human mind is so fragile, that the high standards of the mass media on how a women should look
start to bear down, crash, and take over a lot

Mining industry has been the anchor of South Australia s economy and, benefits it has provided
outweigh whichever associated costs. As developed by the South Australian State Government
(2013), realising the benefits of the mining boom for all is one of the seven strategic priorities to
secure the state s future. Mining is an important industry in South Australiabecause it has been a
major source of minerals for the high demand in Australiaand many countries (Flinders Ranges

In addition, planned mine expansion projects will contribute to expanding the population size in
remote areas. For evidence extracted from iMINCO (2013), the Adelaide Hills area will benefit from
the economic advantage in Adelaide by means of future construction and permanent mining jobs, as
there is potential for hundreds of new highly paid households in the mining industry.
On the other hand, mining industry has industrialised suburban areas by way of polluting the
countryside. It has been confirmed by Kelly (2013) that greenhouse gas emissions is a major impact
from massive coal mining developments and coal seam gas. Nevertheless, environmental concerns
and actions have been taken sand mining terminated its operation at Whiskey Swamp over five
years ago; ODT Australis Company undertook to rehabilitate the site by demolishing constructions
and reseeding the land according to Australian Mining (2013). Moreover, South Australia gained 20
per cent of jobs growth in regional areas which produce coal due to actions on cutting pollution as
mentioned by the Australian Conversation Foundation (2010).
Furthermore, South Australia s mining industry also provides cultural advantages to the state; it
removes the gender and cultural barriers in the working culture today. For instance, an effective
indigenous employment program is run at Thiess and OZ mining sites, which accepts applicants

This caused a century of self examination between the educated and the acceptance of the different
government system. The Chinese government tried to create a strong society but end return it has
led to the Great Proletarian Cultural Revolution. This revolution relied on mass deployment to
destroy anything identified as out of date and to hunt out those whose attitudes and backgrounds
deemed a hindrance to the creation of the new society. Many Chinese who mobilized in their
adolescence as Red Guards have expressed their guilt and disgrace at having followed Mao Zedong

Fair Use Doctrine Essay
Lurking in the halls of the Dan Rather Building at Sam Houston State is what some would call
label a criminal. It s the guy that ignores the FBI warnings and does what he pleases with
copyrighted work. For others, he is no different than the hundreds if not thousands of other
educators that use protected work to cement certain facts or explain topics for their students.
Copyrightprotections are guaranteed by the United States Constitution under Article 1, Section 8,
Clause 8 and are under federal jurisdiction through the U.S. Copyright Office. Established from the
British Statute of Anne which transitioned protective rights for books from private agencies over to

Established permanently through the Copyright Act of 1976 (p. 347), this doctrine allows for
exclusions to the exclusive right granted by Copyright Law. As mentioned earlier, exclusions to
copyright protection exist and are known as the Fair Use Doctrine. This doctrine was established
in section 107 of the 1976 copyright act as a response to some major cases heard previously.
Protected works that are used for the purpose of criticism, comment, news reporting, teaching,
scholarship, or research fall into the realm of fair use and do not require payment or
authorization from the creator. However, this only gives people a limited privilege, and not an
absolute right to use the work. Folsom v. Marsh (1841), introduced the factors that underline the
limited privileges of fair use. Although the appeals process found that fair use was not applicable
in the case because the defendants had used too much of the work and earned a profit from it. In
his opinion, Justice Joseph Story enumerated factors that could be used to determine if the use fell
under the Fair Use

The Ocean Has Been My Favorite Environment
For as long as I can remember, the ocean has been my favorite environment. It s the only place
that I constantly feel at one with the earth and my surroundings. From an early age I always had
an idea on what I wanted to pursue as my career. I would read books about the oceanic world
below and The Great Barrier Reef in Australia. It wasn t until I encountered a wild dolphinat
Clearwater beach, Florida that I decided to be a marinebiologist. The dolphin was so friendly and
welcoming, swimming by me and my brother and allowing us to stroke his slimy skin. That
experience will stick with me forever and is a huge part of why I want to pursue a career in marine
biology.
When I chose to be a marine biologist, my parents were very supportive. They would take us to
the beach as much as possible for vacations, but also for me to be in that environment often.
There are numerous goals that I would hope to accomplish in my field like being promoted to
the highest position possible and being paid the maximum salary. Those goals will motivate me
to work to my fullest potential and always work my hardest. My ultimate goal is of course to help
the world by finding better ways to help out the ocean biome and to make the animals that live
there become safer. Making sure the animals are being treated good and the environment will help
the surface world in multiple ways.
A marine biologist is someone who studies all types of sea creatures, and can choose to specialize
in studying large

visual language. Rana s focus of work nowadays are large scale images made up of small
pictures, which are at times in contradiction with each other, but sometimes also support the
larger images. He is currently the head of the Fine Arts Department and one of the founding
faculty members of the School of Visual Arts and Design (SVAD), Beaconhouse National

look shows how detailed and subvert they are. He enabled his work to be more attractive and
understandable by making it easy for an observer to comprehend by representing it with familiar

then came the World War. Germany was sent spiraling into poverty and inflation. German and
Prussian dignity was diminished. Soon after came the Second World War, for some time these
Germanic countries regained the world s power which turned to fear and hatred. Koenigsberg was

brother, Ludwig. The Beilschmidt family was a respectable one, not the richest of Prussia but they
had a strong German spirit. With the birth of their first son, Gilbert, they lost their respect. Gilbert

  • 2. Canada s Immigration And Refugee Protection Act Canada s Immigration Policies: Canada s Immigration and Refugee Protection Act (IRPA) determines whether or not someone is eligible to immigrate to Canada. There are 3 different sections of the policy, but in general, it factors in nationality, age, language ability, family members, education, work experience, and income. Within the different areas of the immigrationpolicy, which are economic, family reunification, and refugee, there are more specific things looked at in applicants. In the economic area, applicants are rewarded points based on their level of education, ability to speak English and/or French, income, and previous work experience. The family reunification section includes spouses and children joining family members that are already living in Canada, or same sex couples that are not legally married if there are restrictions in the country they are coming from. These immigrants have to provide proof and demonstrate that they are related to, married to, or in a committed relationship with the person they claim to be joining. A smaller portion of the immigrants coming to Canada are considered to be refugees. Refugees must be part of a humanitarian resettlement program, which is a Canadian program that helps people seeking protection outside of Canada with the help of international partners, or claim for asylum protection, which is where Canada provides protection for those who would be in danger if they returned to their own country. • 3. A Group Of Advisory Councillors From Google SUMMARY A group of advisory councillors from Google wrote a report on The Right to Be Forgotten policy in 2015. This policy was created in an effort to offer a balance between freedom of expression and the press. The Right to be Forgotten offers citizens the ability to request for their information to be removed from the results of a Google search. The removal of these search results, or links, upon the request of an individual is referred to as delisting (Floridi et al., 2015). Delisting allows web users to maintain and protect their privacy by limiting the public s access to information about them. It is important to note, however, that while citizens may apply to be delisted, Google does not have to comply with this request. Google ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... On the other hand, citizens should have the right to access information that is germane to the public. HIGHLIGHTS OF THE POLICY The policy first outlines the nature of the rights at issue in the ruling. Google must decide whether the general public should have the right to easily access an individual s information via the search engine. Google must also consider if the individual requesting to delist experiences harm from [public] accessibility to the information (Floridi et al., 2015, p. 6). Next, the policy addresses the way in which Google must assess each delisting request according to four key pieces of criteria: the data subject s role in public life, the nature of the information, the source, and time (Floridi et al., 2015). When evaluating the data subject s role in public life, Google considers three different types of citizens: individuals with a public personality (e.g. politicians), individuals with no public personality (i.e. average citizens), and those with a defined role in public life (e.g. school directors). Ultimately, the more involved a citizen is in the public sphere, the less likely they are to be delisted. Google also considers the nature of the information. Financial records, private contact information, and false information, are all deemed worthy of privacy according to Google. If, however, the information biases toward a public interest (e.g. information related to criminal offences), ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 7. Population, Population And Developing Countries In the world today, nations are classified into developed countries and developing countries. A developed country is a sovereign state that has a highly developed economy and is advanced in technology. These countries are most likely going to have a more organized government and a society where people are making money. On the other hand, a developing countryis a poor agricultural country that is seeking to become more advanced economically and socially (Google). Two major issues among developing countries are population and starvation. Ethiopia is a great example of where starvation and population make Ethiopia the developing nation it is. A good country to contrast with Ethiopia is the United States, a highly developed nation. Although the United States faces these same issues, it is a much greater problem in Ethiopia. The nations of the United States and Ethiopia can be compared and contrasted because they both face the issues of starvation and population growth. A major problem in a developing country like Ethiopia is starvation. In a country like Ethiopia with about 100 million people, at least twenty million face food shortages. This means one and every four people have little to no food. The main source of starvation in Ethiopia is El NiГ±o. El NiГ±o is a complex series of climatic changes severely affecting the Pacific Ocean. Ethiopia is constantly hit by El NiГ±o, causing extreme droughts throughout the country. • 9. The Prevalence Of Refractive Errors In Children Refractive errors are the result of misaligned optical components within the eye causing improper focusing of light onto the retina. Although the optical components may vary by a minute amount, the resulted blurred vision will not only affect the individual but also society in terms of the health industry, education, research and socioeconomics. As a result of the impact of refractive errors, there has been an increasing emphasis for research and action plans placed by eyehealth organisations and the government on the development, prevention and control of refractive errors. As a child s eye begins to develop and undergo emmetropization, there is a dynamic change to the optical components such as the crystalline lens, cornea and axial length. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The most common cause of visual impairment is due to uncorrected refractive error. 2 Studies by researchers by the Brien Holden Vision Institute approximates the cost to correct refractive errors to be US$20 045 million.2 The correction of refractive errors make a worthwhile investment as uncorrected refractive errors cause an estimated US$91,300 million US$327,000 million loss in productivity. 2 In order to minimise this loss of productivity, it is imperative for the government to support visual health sectors. Therefore, due to the high economic costs of refractive error, family, communities and the government must implement preventative or corrective measures. There are high costs for poverty stricken nations tackling uncorrected refractive errors. The impact of blindness of a country can amount to $42 billion in 2000. 2 This large sum will be very difficult to set aside and invest in eye health in developing countries. When eye health is left untreated this will often increase the cost of repairing eye health issues which furthers the cycle of decreasing eye health care. Therefore, it is ideal for developing countries to highly invest in quality eye care as soon as they can afford to train health ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 10. Prescriptive English Essay Linguists and other scholars who study language do not take prescriptive grammar rules seriously. To them, understanding the meaning and function of words is more important than correction. They belief that language is not an empirical fact and that it is not universal, there are hundreds of dialects in a language which means that there are hundreds of grammars as well. There is also no scientific validation that can be done on prescriptive grammar. The majority of what native speakers know about their language wasn t taught to them explicitly but in an implicit way through the communicative teaching approach which is a more natural way of speaking and has more to do with whether the message the speaker tries to convey is understood. One example of this is a very common one; a person says Can I use the bathroom? which is grammatically wrong because of course he/she can, but the question should be May I use the bathroom? which is asking for permission. If both of the questions are meant to be understood in the same way by the person who is asking it and the person who is listening, why should it be wrong? Some examples of popular, enduring prescriptive rules in English are that a person shouldn t split infinitives, for example: He decided to quickly leave the room you should say he decided quickly to leave the room. You shouldn t end a sentence with a preposition, for example: which student did you talk to? you should say: To which student did you talk? Knowing ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The current UCOP and H HS guidelines on purchasing are vague and makes it difficult for purchasers to discern between what is environmentally preferred or what is not. Emma suggested for the team to create a system of comprehensive purchasing standards that would streamline sustainable procurement and maximize UCLA Housing s use of eco friendly goods. The team intended to create the guidelines based on several third party certifications like the EPA s Comprehensive Procurement Guidelines and University of California Sustainable Practices Policy. • 14. Tobacco Smoke And Its Effects On Health Tobacco smoke is immensely harmful to one s health. Cigarettes contain about 600 ingredients, when this burned can generate 7,000 chemicals according to American Lung Association Many ad campaigns and literatures have been published on the detriments of smoking. Medical reports further shows that half of all long term smokers will die from a smoking related disease. This unhealthy practice must be addressed by the government to lessen the medical cost to treat the ill effects of smoking. Despite all available data available on smoking s ill effects government has little success in reducing incidence of smoking. The New Zealand Government is currently addressing a smoking problem in the country. The government adopted the Smoke free 2025 goal for New Zealand, in March 2011. This response was based on the recommendations of a landmark Parliamentary inquiry by the Maori Affairs select committee. The committee s report was clear that the term smoke free was intended to communicate an aspirational goal and not a commitment to the banning of smoking altogether by 2025. On that basis, the Government agreed with the goal of reducing smoking prevalence and tobacco availability to minimal levels, thereby making New Zealand essentially a smoke free nation by 2025 . (Health, 2014). It is important to have consistent information to help to monitor the progress toward this goal. The smoke free campaign in New Zealand for a smoke free 2025 is now on its fourth year. This health ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 16. Different Situations Where Skills By Social Workers Are... This essay will be discussing two different situations where skills by social workers are needed when working with groups. I will define the term group and will be reflecting on my own experiences of working within groups and what I have observed in regards to individuals, behaviours and group dynamics. My examples are drawn from two particular situations where I have been involved, which include a multi professional meeting and residential home for children with disabilities. I will be drawing on knowledge from K216 materials and other sources. A definition of group according to the Oxford Dictionary of Social Workand Social Care (2013) is a number of individuals with a shared sense of identity and/or who are bound together by interaction with each other . Groups may be categorised into sub groups such as: social group, interest group, family group or task group. People may be members of these different groups; however, their choice of membership may be unavoidable, voluntary or limited. For example, attending school is compulsory for young people and therefore the school group is regarded as a formal group . Whereas they are at liberty to choose their friendship group within the school, therefore this is considered an informal group (Adams, 1993, p.309 ). The first group situation I will discuss is a multi professional meeting. The meeting was one I observed which gave me the opportunity to identify group challenges and skills. The meeting was an Adoption ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 17. `` Pied Beauty `` By Gerard Manley Hopkins Throughout recorded history, humans have accredited the happenings of nature to a higher power; shown through religious beliefs past and present. The Greeks believed in a myriad of gods and goddesses, who supposedly governed all aspects of life and nature. They believed in a god or goddess to represent each part of nature from the sun to the sea; there was even a goddess of rainbows. The Grecians used their religion to explain the elements of their world for which they had no other explanation. Christians explain the natural world in a similar fashion. Instead of a god or goddess for each individual piece of nature, they preach that nature was created and is controlled by their God. The belief of divine control is a popular topic in literature; specifically poetry. Pied Beauty written by Gerard Manley Hopkinsin 1877, and Design written by Robert Frost in 1922 are just two examples of many that follow this trend. Gerard Manley Hopkins was a 19th century, English, Victorian poet. He was brought up in a religious and artistic family, leading to his becoming a poet and Jesuit priest (Reid). Alternatively, Robert Frost was a 20th century, modern, American poet. Frost lived and taught in New England; through his poetry he described much of its scenery and landscape (Gerber). Despite the differences in their lives and writing styles, Frost and Hopkins developed poems of similar image and theme. Altruism exists when it requires a person to sacrifice for another without consideration of personal gain because not every act has a selfish motive. People must learn to contribute to life through objective reality because it universalizes existence. Everyday life is filled with small acts of altruism. Or maybe altruism does involve being self interested after all. Some of the things that one does do not always mean they are selfish. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... To be honest, I know my essay is crap. I completely suck at philosophy and I don t know many things. But I do know that being altruistic means also being selfish. Third world countries probably view America as an altruistic hero because they basically help fight wars for other people. But as Arundhati Roy said, Wars are never fought for altruistic reasons. Yes, soldiers do sacrifice their lives fighting, but it s not (mostly) because they are altruistic, but because it s their way of paying rent . The definition of altruism is the belief in or practice of disinterested and selfless concern for the well being of others. But think about it, while helping others, don t you also help yourself? Like you can say, hey I am going to help at a homeless shelter because I feel altruistic today. A part of you is lying to yourself; you are going to a homeless shelter because yes, you feel like helping others, but you are also helping yourself feel good, which is an act of being self interested. The reason why people help others is because it makes them feel good. It can vary anything from relieving stress to feeling guilty for something so they do something nice, like help others, which makes them believe they have a higher chance of going to heaven. Employee turn over is high within many sectors of SAIC. This trend will continue if SAIC leadership does not empower their employees with more self determination in self development. Desired Future State The ideal state for self determination in the area of self development is to allow the individual employee maximum latitude in accessing, enrolling, and completing three to four self development modules annually. Many of these courses take an hour to complete on line. SAIC leadership should cover the hours used for each employee through general overhead dollars. Although this would prove to be costly, it would save the company millions in the long run. As an alternative, employees could take these classes on their own time, if the overhead costs proved too high. The procedure involves dissolving an excess amount of sodium borohydride in 95% ethanol and then adding a benzil to the solution. Sodium borohydride reduces the carbonyl groups in the benzil and the acidification produces a diol or two secondary alcohols. The overall purpose of this experiment was to determine the favored diastereomer in the reduction of benzyl by sodium borohydride and to identify the diastereomer that was produced. The identification was done by forming an acetal derivative and performing an 1H NMR spectroscopy for confirmation. To understand the reaction, it is important to note that sodium borohydride is a salt that is made up of a sodium cation and a borohydride anion. The sodium ion is just a spectator ion that helps maintain a balance of charges. The important part of the sodium borohydride is the B H bond. Boron is polarized as positive and hydrogen as negative; therefore the B H bond is the source of the hydride ion. The Power of Words In recent years, it has become popular for many of America s great literary masterpieces to be adapted into film versions. As easy a task as it may sound, there are many problems that can arise from trying to adapt a book into a movie, being that the written word is what makes the novel a literary work of art. Many times, it is hard to express the written word on camera because the words that express so much action and feeling can not always be expressed the same way through pictures and acting. In the film, she is a petite lady that does not have a noticeably large chest in any way. It is hard to imagine the Nurse without her chest, so it makes one wonder why the film does not include this aspect. Antisocial Personality Disorder ( Aspd ) Antisocial personality disorder (ASPD), opposition defiant disorder (ODD), and conduct disorder (CD) are three distinct disorders based upon their respective diagnostic criteria in the DSM 5. If ODD and CD were mild forms of ASPD, then there would need to be causal relationship between the childhood manifestations of ODD and CD and the adult manifestation of ASPD. There is evidence of comorbidity between ODD and CD, and also evidence to suggest that children diagnosed with these disorders may go on to develop ASPD later in life; however, correlation does not equal causation. The three disorders have subtle but important differences in their associated behaviors, underlying causes, treatment outcomes, and neurological signs. To an untrained observer, ODD may appear as the mildest form of the three disorders; however, this misunderstanding is based on observations of a limited set of behaviors that are characteristic of ASPD which do not apply to ODD. (Gen. 12:1 3) Then the LORD appeared to Abram, and said, To your offspring I will give this land. Therefore, he built there an altar to the LORD, who had appeared to him (Gen. 12:7). Abram knew that through his faith in God would blessed Abram and his decedents and Abram would be the father of many nations. Inner Ring Essay Arroyo 1 Alex Arroyo Professor Ledri Aguilar English 120 30 August 2013 Inner Rings and the Motives that Come Along C.S Lewis delivered a speech named The Inner Ring at King s College, a University in London. As Lewis continues on in his speech, one may be a little thrown off by what these inner rings are and what exactly they mean to people. Although Lewis mentions both good and harmful inner rings, one could argue that most people find themselves so caught up in these inner rings they do not even realize they are trying to be involved in them for the wrong reasons. Some people strive to have a certain appearance that comes along with being involved in these inner rings that they tend to forget what really is important to them. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Some of these inner rings are the reason we have competition, jealously and spite in the world. It is not right for one to feel left out just because they do not have certain traits or don t have the same views as another. Lewis even acknowledges this with his passage, Unless you take measures to prevent it, this desire is going to be one of the chief motives of your life, from the first day on which you enter your profession until the day when you are too old to care (Lewis 152). An example of today s inner ring would be fraternities at Colleges. People who aren t part of a certain fraternity would feel left out when they see the Frat s doing activities only Frat members are allowed to do. This might make one feel the need to fit in and do certain things they do not enjoy just to be accepted in a fraternity. Although this particular example does not apply to everybody, it still does not hide these inner rings because they can be found everywhere. Arroyo 4 Another example of an inner ring existing is social class in itself. Rich hang out with the rich, poor hang out with the poor. People obviously have different circumstances that make their social class rich or poor, but the ring still exists. Lower class people feel left out when they see the upper class driving nicer cars, eating expensive dinners, and living in expensive homes. Lefkowitz, in her article The Heroic Women of Greek Epic, argues that without the role of women in the Iliad the story would not have occurred (504 ). Lefkowitz points out that the Iliad opens with a description of a plague that was caused as the result of the capture of Chrysies by Agamemnon (504). Chryseis is the daughter of a priest named Chryses. Chryses wants his daughter back, so he offers a ransom to Agamemnon to try to get him to return his daughter. He uses Aeneas as an example of an official taunter in the Iliad. Murphy then goes on to discuss the role of women in the Iliad. Murphy states that, Like the official taunters they do not themselves participate physically in the frequently savage fighting and feuding of the sagas which they often cause in a very direct and deliberate way by goading their men into curses of action sometimes very much against those men s good judgment and mutual friendship (111). Murphy then goes on to discuss another subject; he does not go into depth about which character may have played this role of an unofficial taunter. By interpretation one may infer that he is referring to all the women in the Iliad. Let s look at Briseis for an example. • 46. `` Barbie Doll `` By Marge Percy Marge Percy Barbie Doll is a social commentary about the demanding pressures that the mass media produces about how women should look like and what type of body they should have. Women in the 1970s faced high standards and these standards still go on to this day. These high demands lead women to go above and beyond to meet standards that society has placed upon them. Some of these drastic measures can lead to consequences. In Barbie Doll the main character decided to undergo plastic surgery to fix her big nose and fat legs . Unfortunately she ended up dying in her struggle to meet the standard that the media has placed on her at an exceptionally young age. Her untimely death is a symbol and the theme of the poem that these women will work themselves to death to meet societies demands and most of the time it is all for nothing. All this women wanted was people to accept the way she looked and not critique her looks and it was not until her funeral day, when it no longer mattered, that she finally got that acceptance. The poem starts off just saying how the main character was born as usual . There is nothing wrong with the main character and she is just a normal girl that played with Barbie dolls. It is not until the fifth line that the magic of puberty finally hits the author.
