2. The present and past Continuous
The past continous.
Is used for actions that occurred at a specific time in the
past. Like the present continuous, it is formed with the
auxiliary verb "to be" and the gerund.
How to form.
To form the continuous past we use the auxiliary “verb to be" and the
gerund (infinitive + "-ing") of the verb. The auxiliary verb "to be" is in the
past simple, but keep in mind that "to be" is an irregular verb.
Examples.
Affirmative: Negative: Interrogative:
1- I was writing. 1- I wasn’t writting. 1- was i writing?
2- You were eating. 2- You weren’t eating. 2- were you eating?
3- They were pating. 3- They weren't paiting. 3- were they paiting?
3. The present continuous.
Is used for actions or events that are happening or developing now: The sentences "The kids are
watching TV" and "The weather is getting colder" are in the present continuous. 'I am cooking' is an
example of the present continuous.
How to form:
To form the present continuous we used the auxiliary “verb to be” + the normal verb with the
“-ing” auxiliary.

2- You are eating. 2- You aren’t eating. 2- areyou eating?
3- He is pating. 3- He insn’t paiting. 3- is hepaiting?
