2. Masthead
 Biggest font on page
 Often placed at the top third of the page
 Gives a brief summary before the contents begins
 Capitalised and bold
 Can contain magazine name or logo alongside the name of the page

3. Images
 Can accompany articles in the contents and is able to help the reader to a particular page
 Often overlapped by page numbers and summaries
 Photographer is credited
 Several images can be used (1-8 images)

4. Colour Scheme
 Assure the background isn’t too distracting to the audience to not distract them from the
contents itself which is the most important
 Colour scheme will be the same if not similar to that used on the front cover and on the double
page spread
 Important pieces of information are highlighted with contrasting colours

5. List of Contents
 Categories split the contents into certain sections, categories are often colour coded to help the
reader easily navigate the magazine.
 Categories include sub-genres such as Music, Art, Film, Fashion and Do it
 The list is often presented in chronological order
 Presented in a column format
 Must be interesting to look at to help readers find the page they want
 Main headings have bold font to help them stand out

7. Layout
 Masthead across the top of page
 Contents placed down one side of page or next to images
 Strapline positioned at the top third
 Dominant image placed at the centre of the page
 One of the most crowded pages in the entire magazine
 Depending on magazine genre, effects the layout

8. Language and Register
 Rhetorical Questions
 Relatable languages
 Puns
 Must have some regional link (if it’s a regional magazine)
 Short and Snappy
 Direct Address
 Straight to the point

Although I am including a large majority of conventions in my contents page, I fear that if I include
too much conventions it will begin to look clustered which I already fear it may be. My magazine
doesn’t need a subscription box because I plan on making it free so it would be pointless, I also feel
the use of a editors note wouldn't fit in well with a regional magazine since it would be too personal
for the magazine itself and the audience since very few actually bother to read it.
