This document analyzes and summarizes several magazine content pages. It discusses common conventions like including the magazine name, date, and section headings. Large images are often used to draw attention to featured artists. Page numbers and band names also help readers navigate. While imagery sells magazines, the document notes the need for more diversity in subjects like women in music.

2. This content page has the name of the magazine at the very top of the page
which established it as the brand “metal hammer.” The word ‘contents’ is
the largest boldest word on the page which works as the title for the page.
The content page is also where the magazine chooses to write the date of
the magazine. This would be a good thing to have so people can know how
old or new the magazine is , possibly so they can collect the magazine or
make sure the news and articles they are reading are up to date.
This content page has a section for features of this magazine, which are
things that don’t appear in every issue and may be special exclusives. It also
has a ‘regulars’ section, showcasing the aspects they have in every issue
such as access all areas and life stories.
This page also shows a lot of different images which takes up a large
amount of the space on the page. This makes it more interesting to people
quickly looking at the contents page. Another aspect of this page that I like
is the short extract on the right hand side , this gives the reader an idea of
the writing style of the magazine, making it more likely for them to read it.
Metal Hammer is a magazine with a cult classic magazine, it sells
merchandise with their logo on it. Unfortunately, women and their bodies
are still used to sell merchandise, clearly shown by the woman at the
bottom. I want to include women in my magazine, but not in this old
fashioned way. I want women to make up some of the musicians I
showcase.

3. This content page has an appearance that is split in half , the top half
is mostly a large image of slash. This will be because Slash is
definitely the most well known person on the page so they will use
him to draw people into the magazine.
Another way this page showcases its contents is by having pictures
of the pages themselves. This gives us a better idea about the inside
layouts of the magazine which could possibly attract a reader further.
The lower half of this cover is more like a typical contents page , they
have a typical layout so they are more universal and easy to use for
the reader.
The bright yellow headings really stand out and split up the articles
into clear sections, which may make the magazine easier to navigate
as the reader is more likely to be able to find what they want quickly.
It also gives a contact number for the reader to subscribe to the
magazine, this is good for people who don’t know how to do it
online and older readers.
The page numbers are all in red which also makes them stand out
from the white background more than the black and grey does.

4. The majority of this content page is made up of images which is
extremely eye catching and better to look at for the reader. The
image are of very famous bands such as Slipknot, Linkin Park and
Korn. Most of the article titles at the lower half of the page are
names of bands , this is a good idea as people will recognise the
band names and fans of the band will go to that page regardless
of what the page is actually about.
The page numbers are all in red or have a red box around them
which gives it a uniform look as they fit a colour scheme. This
contents page doesn’t have the title of the magazine or an issue
number or date, this isn’t typical but it still fits the style of its
magazine so it is clear that it is part of it.
Interviews seem to be a key feature of the magazine contents
page, suggesting that they are a popular type of article which
draws in an audience.

5. This is another metal hammer contents page, but this one is much
more simple than the other one. The obvious main focus of this
content page is the excessively large image at the top of the page.
This takes up about 1/3 of the page. This is more than likely
because the band is Metallica so this is something that will be very
popular for the readers of the magazine as they are a very
universally accepted and well loved band. The name of the band
though , is very small and in a red banner, this could be made
larger to make it stand out more, however they are very
recognisable due to their level of fame so it may be less needed.
The name and title ( contents ) is still in the top left however it is
slightly smaller. The images used for showcasing the other pages
are shots of the pages themselves which showcases more of the
magazine and the different ways they set out articles.

6. One thing I like about the NME content page is the band index on the
left. This will make it easier for the readers to find the bands they are
interested in. There are also very clear headings on the different sections
of content which also make it easier to navigate the magazine.
There is also a clear box at the middle bottom to convince people to
subscribe to the magazine and get it monthly. They often put offers on
this and claim they are ending soon in order to get people to subscribe
straight away to not miss out on the deals.
The page fits the style of NME perfectly and has their name and contents
title very large at the top. Although NME refer to it as ‘this week’. NME
also displays the date of the issue on their contents pages.
The images in this contents page take up significantly less room than
some of the others but it also has a more minimal and clean feel. There is
a bit more white space at the bottom which looks very empty and
unfinished.
