There are seven connecting themes in geography that will be referred back to throughout the school year: conflict and change, culture, governance, human environmental interaction, location, movement and migration, and production, distribution, and consumption. These themes explore how societies are shaped by conflicts, cultures, forms of government, relationships with the environment, locations, movements of people, and economic activities. Students will document these connecting themes in their interactive notebooks for use during the entire school year.

4. Culture is a product of the religion, beliefs, customs, traditions, and governments

5. Governance as a society increases in complexity and interacts with other societies, the complexities of the government also increases

6. Human Environmental Interaction humans, the society, and the environment affect each other

7. Location affects a society’s economy, culture, and development

8. Movement and Migration movement or migration of people and ideas affects all societies involved

9. Production, Distribution, and Consumption The production, distribution, and consumption of goods/services produced by the society are affected by the location, customs, beliefs, and laws of the society .
