of knowledge. They will relate to each of
our main areas of study.
■ Assessment tasks will be spread

■ There will also be various formative or
minor assessments throughout the
semester designed to help you with your
knowledge and understanding of each
topic.

concepts
Key geographical concepts are the organizing concepts common
to all branches of geography. Although there are many organizing
concepts, there are 7 commonly recognized concepts used in
Middle School. You should be familiar with these from Year 8 but
just in case the concepts are listed below:
■ Place
■ Space
■ Environment
■ Interconnection
■ Sustainability
■ Scale
■ Change
6. Looking at the
previous slide
note down some
ideas of what
you think the
unit on
Geographies of
Interconnections
will be about.
7. What does this image
mean?What does it tell us
about the role of humans in

■ Geography is a link between natural and social sciences.
■ Geography is a very holistic subject in that it connects to so many different things in
our lives
■ A lot of things which are part of our daily lives link to Geography e.g. where our food
comes from, how we get to school, where our clothes are produced, where we travel
to on holidays, what the weather will be like
■ Decisions for the future link to Geography also e.g. how we manage our environment,
who we elect as our political leaders, which products we choose to buy

the following:
■ Enjoyment of Geography – how much did you enjoy your Geography lessons?
■ Level of understanding – how well did you understand the work and the topics?
■ Geographic skills – how do you rate your skills in mapping, resource interpretation and
presentation of work?
2. List 3 goals or things you would like to achieve in geography this semester.Try to
make these specific to Geography rather than just “I want to get As in my
assessments” (e.g. always remember to use BOLTSS when doing mapwork)
3. Other comments – anything else you would like to tell your teacher about your
attitude towards Geography or yourself as a geographer…..
12. ■ Submit this PowerPoint with your responses to each of the tasks on Classe,
