ConnectME: connecting content for future TV & video
Today, media material is increasingly digital and shifting to delivery via IP and the Web,
including cultural artifacts or broadcast television. This opens up the possibility of new
services deriving added value from such material by combining it with other material
elsewhere on the Web which is related to it or enhances it in a meaningful way, to the
benefit of the owner of the original content, the providers of the content enhancing it and
the end consumer who can access and interact with these new services. Since the
services are built around providing new experiences through connecting different related
media together, we consider such services to be Connected Media Experiences
(ConnectME).
In particular, much rich depth of information and service functionality associated to
content in video is not derived today due to a lack of suitably granular description of
video, including linking of video objects to the concepts they represent. For example,
news reports about local tourism and events are not linked to tourist information and
event–related services which a viewer may (spontaneously) wish to access and make
use of.
The technological result of the ConnectME project will be an end-to-end service platform
to host those added-value services over different networks, providing the common
required functionality of each service: multimedia annotation and subsequent enrichment
with related content from the Web, combined with the packaging and delivery of
synchronized multimedia presentations to the end device. At the device, intuitive user
interfaces must be developed so that the selection of on-screen objects and the
browsing of the associated content can be done in a non-disruptive and intuitive fashion.
As a result, ConnectME facilitates a new interactive media experience built on top of the
convergence of TV/video and the Web.
Arneb
1) Arneb is a web-based video annotation tool that allows multiple human annotators to collaboratively annotate videos with structured semantic annotations using ontologies.
2) The tool was developed for the EU VidiVideo project to generate ground truth annotations for training automatic video annotation systems.
3) Annotations can be exported in MPEG-7 and OWL ontology formats to provide interoperability, and the tool has been used to annotate over 25,000 annotations of broadcast video by professional archivists.

Abstract:
Existing standard protocols for the web and Internet telephony fail
to deliver real-time interactive communication from within a web
browser. In particular, the client-server web protocol over reliable
TCP is not always suitable for end-to-end low latency media path
needed for interactive voice and video communication. To solve
this, we compare the available platform options using the existing
technologies such as modifying the web programming language
and protocol, using an existing web browser plugin, and using a
separate host resident application that the web browser can talk to.
We argue that using a separate application as an adaptor is a
promising short term as well as long term strategy for voice and
video communications on the web.
Our project aims at developing the open technology and sample
implementations for web-based real-time voice and video
communication applications. We describe the architecture of our
project including a RESTful web communication API over HTTP
inspired by SIP message flows, a web-friendly metadata for
session description, and an UDP-based end-to-end media path.
All other telephony functions reside in the web application itself
and/or in web feature server. The adaptor approach allows us to
easily add new voice and video codecs and NAT traversal
technologies such as Host Identity Protocol. We want to
make web-based communication accessible to millions of web
developers, maximize the end user experience and security, and
preserve the huge investment in and experience from SIP systems
while adhering to web standards and development tools.
Building video application on windows 8 with Windows Azure Media Services
Microsoft offers media services and a player framework for adaptive streaming video on various platforms. This includes support for Smooth Streaming, Closed Captioning, and advertising through standards like VAST and VMAP. The player framework is open source and supports features like DVR controls, analytics and DRM. HTML5 may provide a cross-browser solution but lacks support for digital rights management currently.

Removing Uninteresting Bytes in Software Fuzzing
Imagine a world where software fuzzing, the process of mutating bytes in test seeds to uncover hidden and erroneous program behaviors, becomes faster and more effective. A lot depends on the initial seeds, which can significantly dictate the trajectory of a fuzzing campaign, particularly in terms of how long it takes to uncover interesting behaviour in your code. We introduce DIAR, a technique designed to speedup fuzzing campaigns by pinpointing and eliminating those uninteresting bytes in the seeds. Picture this: instead of wasting valuable resources on meaningless mutations in large, bloated seeds, DIAR removes the unnecessary bytes, streamlining the entire process.
In this work, we equipped AFL, a popular fuzzer, with DIAR and examined two critical Linux libraries -- Libxml's xmllint, a tool for parsing xml documents, and Binutil's readelf, an essential debugging and security analysis command-line tool used to display detailed information about ELF (Executable and Linkable Format). Our preliminary results show that AFL+DIAR does not only discover new paths more quickly but also achieves higher coverage overall. This work thus showcases how starting with lean and optimized seeds can lead to faster, more comprehensive fuzzing campaigns -- and DIAR helps you find such seeds.

zkStudyClub - Reef: Fast Succinct Non-Interactive Zero-Knowledge Regex Proofs
This paper presents Reef, a system for generating publicly verifiable succinct non-interactive zero-knowledge proofs that a committed document matches or does not match a regular expression. We describe applications such as proving the strength of passwords, the provenance of email despite redactions, the validity of oblivious DNS queries, and the existence of mutations in DNA. Reef supports the Perl Compatible Regular Expression syntax, including wildcards, alternation, ranges, capture groups, Kleene star, negations, and lookarounds. Reef introduces a new type of automata, Skipping Alternating Finite Automata (SAFA), that skips irrelevant parts of a document when producing proofs without undermining soundness, and instantiates SAFA with a lookup argument. Our experimental evaluation confirms that Reef can generate proofs for documents with 32M characters; the proofs are small and cheap to verify (under a second).

Connected Media Experiences New services deriving added value for video by combining it with complementary content from the Web Linking of video objects to the concepts they represent, and hence related content about those concepts Provisioned as an enhanced in-video experience Delivered via an end-to-end service platform hosting the added value services over different networks
- 3. What could be a connected media experience? Where is Obertauern? Which peak is that? Can I ski there? How? What is the building? If it is a hotel, how is the accommodation?

Annotation Suite 1/2 HTML 5, CSS 3, responsive layout, based on Twitter Bootstrap jQuery, JS based UI Timeline based interface Allows adding/editing/deleting annotations in/to the CMF Allows registering videos to and loading video annotations from the CMF Multilanguage support (currently EN, DE) Access via OpenID

Annotation Suite 2/2 Annotations are RDF and concepts are using LOD identifiers – Annotation export in N3, RDF/XML and Turtle Manual annotation with LOD concepts (URIs) and HTML content (URLs) Currently Plugins for dbpedia and geonames search APIs – Plugin based architecture allows adding further LOD sources easily Future plans: Mobile annotation tool for smartphone and tablet

ConnectMe Framework Triple store based on the Linked Media Framework Analysis of annotations (Apache Stanbol Enhancer) and automatical enrichment with images and videos (Linked Services Infrastructure) Linked Service Infrastructure (LSI) searches through several APIs Currently supports: Flickr, YouTube, Instagram, Ookaboo and Foursqare venues

Interactive video player 1/2 Based on the open source Lime player (http://tkurz.github.io/lime/) Makes use of: HTML5 video, CSS3 Versions: web based – designed for desktops and laptops, responds to mouse events, tablet – designed to touch enabled devices with niminum 7” screens Google TV – designed to fit a tv remote control interaction (ongoing development)

Interactive video player 2/2 Flexible Plugin and Widget implementation Available plugins: DBPediaInfoPlugin – handles annotations with DBPedia resources URI GeoPlugin – handles annotations with Geonales resource URI VideoPlugin – handles video results from LSI for any Linked Data URI it is configured for
