The artist created six initial sword sketches for their game, then narrowed it down to three options through feedback from classmates. Most classmates changed their preference to the final sword design when provided more context about the adventure game's theme and planned art style. The artist then scanned their preferred sketch and traced it digitally using Pixlr and a connected sketchpad. They used a paint brush tool to color the sword in a cell-shaded, cartoony style suitable for the colorful but space-themed game and its target audience. The sword was painted black, red, and blue to evoke the dark colors of space as well as common planetary hues, and stars were added to make the design unique.
