Watercolor Paint American Indian headdresses were not
Oil Pastels as common as we might believe. Only a
Scissors few American Indian tribes wore them.
There wasText different styles
a couple
depending on the tribe. No matter the
style, each feather was earned by
bravery and only worn by men.
3. Drawing an Indian Chief in Profile
Step 1
Draw a dot in the upper
middle part of the paper.
Draw a nose and a chin.
*Hint*
The nose resembles a
curved, upside down #7.
4. Step 2
Starting at the top of the
nose, draw a rectangle.
Leave some space on the
end, you want to save
room for feathers.
5. Step 3
Draw a circle at the end of
the rectangle. Draw
feathers. Remember each
feather represents
bravery. Notice how many
feathers my Indians have.
7. Step 5
Draw the shoulders by
placing your pencil on the
bottom corner of the
paper and draw a cur ved
line up towards the neck
and down the other side.
8. Step 6
Add final details. Add a
triangle around the eye dot to
emphasize the eye. Add
decorative elements to the
shirt. Add an eyebrow and
war paint stripes under eye.
9. Add Color
Using oil pastels or
paint to color Indians.
When finished out line
everything with a
black oil pastel.
10. Feathers on painted paper
Making painted paper is one of many
students favorite things to do. You paint
paper with 1 color and then add different
colors by dripping, painting lines or dots and
then add texture by using brushes, texture
tools or even forks. When dry, cut out
feathers using a tracer and outline with a
black oil pastel. We made awesome painted
spiders for Halloween and I saved the extra
painted paper for this project. Glue feather
on top of the head band.
