TADSummit Closing Keynote: BYOSpectrum – Why private cellular is a game-changerAlan Quayle
Dean Bubley, Disruptive Analysis.
The telecoms industry loves to claim that 5G will disrupt and transform industries. What it hasn’t realised is that the first industry that will get disrupted is telecom itself. New local or shared spectrum bands (such as CBRS in the US), programmable cloud-based cores, eSIM and various other enablers are making it much easier for enterprises, IT companies, cities and Internet/cloud players to build their own private 4G – and soon 5G – networks.
That’s not to say it’s as simple as installing Wi-Fi, but for various organisations from airports to oil companies to hospitals, it’s becoming a more realistic proposition. There are also various hybrids, where telcos can sell “slices” or local/enterprise MVNO deals, or allow companies to just run a separate private core network. Add in a new set of wholesale models (called Neutral Host), and the future wireless operator landscape looks very different from today.
We’re seeing the democratisation of “programmable cellular networks”.
Small cells will play a central role in enabling 5G networks to meet requirements for increased capacity, coverage, bandwidth, and shorter ranges necessitated by higher frequency spectrum usage. Early 5G trials are already focusing on deploying dense networks of small cells in challenging environments. Widespread adoption of 5G will require an unprecedented scale of small cell deployment that establishes open standards, alternative ownership models, and scalable processes to efficiently densify networks. The Small Cell Forum is working to drive adoption of small cells and help plot an evolutionary path to 5G through its initiatives on technology, operations, business models and standards.

Several mobile operators are piloting Cel-Fi globally, and Nextivity has received an initial order of $24 million from Three Hutchison.
Multimedia Analytics with 5G Edge NodesAnand Bhojan
Presentation at ACM-MM-19 TPC meeting: https://sites.google.com/comp.nus.edu.sg/mm19-tpc-meeting/workshop
With the growing popularity of X-Reality (VR/AR/MR) generation of global media-data is expected to accelerate at much higher rate. Most of these data need real-time processing such as real-time facial features/emotion recognition to environmental context recognition/mapping beyond the capabilities of an MR glass. The demand for high communication bandwidth and ultra-low latency (<15ms motion to photon latency) will drive the community to exploit the capabilities of the telco edge nodes and push telcos to build more powerful edge nodes. The real-time analytics of media data with strict real-time constraints will be the ‘killer application’ of 5G networks and edge computing. In addition, we believe, multimedia analytics and 5G/edge computing will be the key to push for mass adoption of XR devices. In this talk, we will explore some suitable media analytics methods and architecture to run media analytics with the 5G edge nodes.

At present 5G is being launched in some cities in the United States. It is an advanced wireless technology that was initially used in conjunction with the existing 4G network, and then developed into a completely independent network in subsequent versions and coverage expansion.
The impact of 5G technology is huge.
No matter whether you are technically inclined or not, you cannot escape its influence. within the next few years 5G is predicted to be liable for $13.2 trillion of worldwide economic output also as 22.3 million new jobs.
5G broadband standards :
It must implement a lean signaling design
It must provide connectivity for the web of things (IoT)
Enforces strict data transmission requirements
Improved beamforming that permits signals to be propagated to a bigger set of end points
Must use adaptive bandwidth, which allows devices to modify to a low-bandwidth and lower power whenever possible, saving energy for when higher bandwidths are necessary

This document discusses the challenges of traditional copper-based enterprise networks and proposes an alternative converged fiber solution called Corning ONE. Traditional networks use copper for local connections, which has limitations in terms of bandwidth, distance, power consumption, and costs of upgrades. They also struggle to support new technologies such as distributed antenna systems (DAS) for cellular networks. The Corning ONE solution uses passive optical networking to replace copper with single-mode fiber for connectivity throughout the network, providing benefits such as higher bandwidth, longer distances, lower power usage, and easier upgrades to support new standards and technologies.

1847 Holdings LLC, a publicly traded diversified acquisition holding company, was founded by Ellery W. Roberts, a former partner of Parallel Investment Partners, Saunders Karp & Megrue and Principal of Lazard Freres Strategic Realty Investors. EFSH's investment thesis is that capital market inefficiencies have left the founders and/or stakeholders of many small business enterprises and lower-middle market businesses with limited exit options, despite the intrinsic value of their business. Given this dynamic, EFSH can consistently acquire "solid" businesses for reasonable multiples of cash flow and then deploy resources to strengthen the infrastructure and systems to improve operations. These improvements may lead to a sale or IPO of an operating subsidiary at considerably higher valuations than the purchase price (as successfully demonstrated with the mid-2020 IPO of 1847 Goedeker on the NYSE American) and/or alternatively, an operating subsidiary may be held in perpetuity and contribute to EFSH's ability to pay regular and special dividends to shareholders.
