In this week’s lecture and readings we learn about the modern skyscraper as well as the horizontal growth of the suburban areas. In Le Corbusier book A Contemporary City, it gives us a brief overview of his life. We know that he is a founding father to the modernist movement known as the International style, and that he also entered a competition to plan a “contemporary city of 3 million people,” that did not end up winning. Although he did not win, in this book he describes the leading factors that would contribute to his plan of a contemporary city. Of these factors was this topic of skyscrapers. He states, “The skyscrapers are designed purely for business purposes,” he later discusses how skyscrapers are also capable of housing employees, businesses and hotel sections. We also learned that skyscrapers have essential characteristics that define what a modern skyscraper and how there were certain technological requirements that were needed in order to develop a skyscraper. With regards to the development of skyscrapers, zoning properties were quickly established, which ultimately came to the influence of the aesthetic and visual properties of the city as a whole.
In Widogers publication on The "Solar Eye" of Vision Emergence of the Skyscraper-Viewer in the Discourse on Heights in New York City, 1890-1920 we learned how Alvin Coburn, a photographer, takes his camera upon Madison Square in 1921 from the vantage point of the metropolitan life tower, and creates the first abstraction of a city viewed from above. It is also important because he also discusses how modern skyscrapers correspond to the urban transformation in New York City between the period 1890 and 1920. This then brings about the observation on how periods of social upheaval affect individualism and mass identity, which in turn conditions the way artists and writers define their artistic vision in relation to daily life in the city. He also states that, “The tower on Madison Square Garden and the Metropolitan Life Tower had similar features: they were not fully fledged skyscrapers but rather towers constructed either beside or on top of a block-shaped building.” The author also capitalizes on how this metropolitan lifestyle can alter ones behavior due to the environment that surrounds them.
Post World War Two was the beginning of the housing boom. “The transition from a war to peacetime economy was centered on the mass consumerism, ”According to the lecture. This then lead to large scale housing production where some of these housing parts were sometimes made up of refashioned tank and airplane parts. Las Case Study Houses fueron experimentos en arquitectura residencial norteamericana patrocinados por la revista de John Entenza (después de David Travers) Arts & Architecture,1 quienes pagaron a los mejores arquitectos del momento, incluyendo a Richard Neutra, Raphael Soriano, Craig Ellwood, Charles y Ray Eames, Pierre Koenig y Eero Saarinen, para diseñar y construir casas modelo baratas y eficientes. La iniciativa se enmarcaba en el gran crecimiento de la demanda de casas residenciales en los Estados Unidos causado por el fin de la Segunda Guerra Mundial y el regreso de millones de soldados. In this week’s lecture and readings we learn about the modern skyscraper as well as the horizontal growth of the suburban areas. In Le Corbusier book A Contemporary City, it gives us a brief overview of his life. We know that he is a founding father to the modernist movement known as the International style, and that he also entered a competition to plan a “contemporary city of 3 million people,” that did not end up winning. Although he did not win, in this book he describes the leading factors that would contribute to his plan of a contemporary city. Of these factors was this topic of skyscrapers. He states, “The skyscrapers are designed purely for business purposes,” he later discusses how skyscrapers are also capable of housing employees, businesses and hotel sections. We also learned that skyscrapers have essential characteristics that define what a modern skyscraper and how there were certain technological requirements that were needed in order to develop a skyscraper. With regards to the development of skyscrapers, zoning properties were quickly established, which ultimately came to the influence of the aesthetic and visual properties of the city as a whole.
In Widogers publication on The "Solar Eye" of Vision Emergence of the Skyscraper-Viewer in the Discourse on Heights in New York City, 1890-1920 we learned how Alvin Coburn, a photographer, takes his camera upon Madison Square in 1921 from the vantage point of the metropolitan life tower, and creates the first abstraction of a city viewed from above. It is also important because he also discusses how modern skyscrapers correspond to the urban transformation in New York City between the period 1890 and 1920. This then brings about the observation on how periods of social upheaval affect individualism and mass identity, which in turn conditions the way artists and writers define their artistic vision in relation to daily life in the city. He also states that, “The tower on Madison Square Garden and the Metropolitan Life Tower had similar features: they were not fully fledged skyscrapers but rather towers constructed either beside or on top of a block-shaped building.” The author also capitalizes on how this metropolitan lifestyle can alter ones behavior due to the environment that surrounds them.
Post World War Two was the beginning of the housing boom. “The transition from a war to peacetime economy was centered on the mass consumerism, ”According to the lecture. The scarce shortage of material forced designers to develop new ways of building. This then lead to large scale housing production where some of these housing parts were sometimes made up of refashioned tank and airplane parts. This allowed for houses to be produced more efficiently and in bulk. During this transition time between wartime to pe.
History of computers

It describes early mechanical calculators invented by Pascal and Leibniz in the 1600s-1700s. Punched card systems were developed in the early 1800s to program textile looms, inspiring Charles Babbage's analytical engine, an early general-purpose computer. In the 1900s, electromechanical computers were developed including the Harvard Mark I and ENIAC, the first general-purpose electronic digital computer. The stored-program architecture was developed by John von Neumann, separating the processor and memory. This led to mainframe, supercomputer, personal computer, smartphone, and modern smart devices.

Removing Uninteresting Bytes in Software Fuzzing
Imagine a world where software fuzzing, the process of mutating bytes in test seeds to uncover hidden and erroneous program behaviors, becomes faster and more effective. A lot depends on the initial seeds, which can significantly dictate the trajectory of a fuzzing campaign, particularly in terms of how long it takes to uncover interesting behaviour in your code. We introduce DIAR, a technique designed to speedup fuzzing campaigns by pinpointing and eliminating those uninteresting bytes in the seeds. Picture this: instead of wasting valuable resources on meaningless mutations in large, bloated seeds, DIAR removes the unnecessary bytes, streamlining the entire process.
In this work, we equipped AFL, a popular fuzzer, with DIAR and examined two critical Linux libraries -- Libxml's xmllint, a tool for parsing xml documents, and Binutil's readelf, an essential debugging and security analysis command-line tool used to display detailed information about ELF (Executable and Linkable Format). Our preliminary results show that AFL+DIAR does not only discover new paths more quickly but also achieves higher coverage overall. This work thus showcases how starting with lean and optimized seeds can lead to faster, more comprehensive fuzzing campaigns -- and DIAR helps you find such seeds.

- 1. Computer History Museum - Chronicling Computing's Antiquity Craig Jensen
- 2. Introduction • The founder and chairman of Condusiv Technologies Corporation (formerly Diskeeper Corporation), Craig Jensen, has been part of the world of computing for decades. Craig Jensen has contributed to the Computer History Museum, which chronicles the development of the computing field over more than a century. The Computer History Museum highlights many areas of the computing field that came before computers as people see them today, with exhibits focusing on the foundational people and designs that led to modern technology. One such exhibit is the circa-1834 Babbage Difference Engine No. 2, an automatic computing engine designed by Charles Babbage but never produced.
- 3. Computer History Museum • In 1991, it was built according to his specifications, and it functioned as expected. Another exhibit highlights mathematician Ada Lovelace’s life and career, including correspondence with her tutors as well as paintings and photographs. Those who want to look at the development of computing in a general sense can attend the museum's Revolution exhibit. This covers the foundations of computing over a 2,000-year period, starting as early as the abacus and showing each step that led to the modern smartphone.
