Every sentence contains a verb and a subject. A verb expresses action or state of being, while a subject represents someone or something. It is possible to pair one subject with multiple verbs in a compound verb, such as "cheered and clapped" or "sneaked and stole". It is also possible to join two or more subjects to a single verb in a compound subject, for example "my mother and my sister went shopping" or "eclairs and macaroons are my favourite desserts".
