" Composite manufacturing by Sanjay Mazumdar".
The construction industry worldwide needs innovative materials to resolve many longstanding issues such as reinforcement corrosion and concrete deterioration.
Resin transfer molding (RTM) is a method of fabricating high-tech composite structures. The RTM process is capable of consistently producing composite parts with high strength, complex geometries, tight dimensional tolerances, and part quality typically required of aerospace applications. RTM uses a closed mold commonly made of aluminum. A fiber "layup" such as graphite is placed into the mold. The mold is closed, sealed, heated, and placed under vacuum. Heated resin is injected into the mold to impregnate the fiber layup. Having the mold heated and under vacuum assists the resin flow. The mold is then held at a temperature sufficient to cure the resin. Current RTM technology produces lightweight parts with excellent mechanical properties. With these qualities, composite materials are gaining wide use in a variety of structural and non-structural applications common in aerospace and aviation. RTM is one method of fabricating these composite structures.

Fibre has been in existence as far back as era ancient time, in the past the horsehair and straw were using in mudbrick. In early 1900s the use of asbestos fibre in concrete material was introduced but it has limitation due to its hazard on human health. In 1950s concept of composite material was adopted in concrete work in which fibre is one of the them but it has not been widely used nowadays as a reinforced material in concrete. In early 1960s in the United States, investigation was firstly made to assess the potential of steel fibres as a reinforcement for concrete. Ever since then, a series of researches have been performed on fibres which steel and glass are major considerations

Ferro cement
The term Ferro cement is most commonly applied to a mixture of Portland cement and sand applied over layers of woven or expanded steel mesh and closely spaced small-diameter steel rods. It can be used to form relatively thin, compound curved sheets to make hulls for boats, shell roofs, water tanks, etc. It has been used in a wide range of other applications including sculpture and prefabricated building components. The term has been applied by extension to other composite materials including some containing no cement and no ferrous material. These are better referred to by terms describing their actual contents.

Carbon fibers or carbon fibres (alternatively CF, graphite fiber or graphite fibre) are fibers about 5–10 micrometres in diameter and composed mostly of carbon atoms. To produce a carbon fiber, the carbon atoms are bonded together in crystals that are more or less aligned parallel to the long axis of the fiber as the crystal alignment gives the fiber high strength-to-volume ratio (making it strong for its size). Several thousand carbon fibers are bundled together to form a tow, which may be used by itself or woven into a fabric.

Enterprise Excellence is Inclusive Excellence.pdfKaiNexus
Enterprise excellence and inclusive excellence are closely linked, and real-world challenges have shown that both are essential to the success of any organization. To achieve enterprise excellence, organizations must focus on improving their operations and processes while creating an inclusive environment that engages everyone. In this interactive session, the facilitator will highlight commonly established business practices and how they limit our ability to engage everyone every day. More importantly, though, participants will likely gain increased awareness of what we can do differently to maximize enterprise excellence through deliberate inclusion.
What is Enterprise Excellence?
Enterprise Excellence is a holistic approach that's aimed at achieving world-class performance across all aspects of the organization.
What might I learn?
A way to engage all in creating Inclusive Excellence. Lessons from the US military and their parallels to the story of Harry Potter. How belt systems and CI teams can destroy inclusive practices. How leadership language invites people to the party. There are three things leaders can do to engage everyone every day: maximizing psychological safety to create environments where folks learn, contribute, and challenge the status quo.
Who might benefit? Anyone and everyone leading folks from the shop floor to top floor.

A composite is a structural
material that consists of two or
more combined constituents
that are combined at a
macroscopic level and are
not soluble in each other.
Resin being directly injected
into the die
Glass fibers
The term pultrusion comes
from combining the words pull
and extrusion.
8
9. Pultruded profiles are cut to
length during the continuous
manufacturing process.
4.
Resin and glass fiber
reinforcements are combined
and formed into the shape of
the die on a continuous
process.
1. The resin is initiated by the
thermal decomposition
process. The initiator is heated
until a chemical bond
dissociation produces two
radicals. The chain continues
to build until the monomer is
used resulting in a cured resin.

Carbon atoms are bonded together in
crystals that are more or less aligned
parallel to the long axis of the fiber. The
crystal alignment gives the fiber high
strength-to-volume ratio. Several
thousand carbon fibers are bundled
together to form a tow, which may be
used by itself or woven or stitched into a

The properties of carbon fibers, such as
high stiffness, high tensile strength, low
weight, high chemical resistance, high
temperature tolerance and low thermal
expansion, make them very popular in
aerospace, civil
engineering, military, and motorsports.

WHY ASTM D7290?
It is an internationally recognized standard for
evaluating material property characteristic values
for polymeric composites for civil engineering
structural applications.
The characteristic value is a statistically-based
material property representing the 80% lower
confidence bound on the 5th percentile value of a
specified population.

HILL & SMITH REVIEW OF 2012
INFRASTRUCTURE PRODUCTS
The division is focused on supplying
engineered products to the roads
and utilities markets in geographies
where there is a prospect of
sustained long term investment in
infrastructure.
In 2012 the division accounted for
73% (2011: 68%) of the Group’s
revenue and 43% (2011: 48%) of the
Group’s underlying operating profit.
UTILITIES
The requirements for new power generation in emerging
economies and replacement of aging infrastructure in developed
countries provide an excellent opportunity for the Group’s utilities
businesses.
Revenues increased to £205.7m (2011: £167.0m), which after
adjusting for acquisitions and currency impacts, reflects 13%
organic growth of £22.5m. Underlying operating profit increased
by £1.9m to £13.4m (2011: £11.5m) with acquisitions contributing
£0.9m of the growth.
The organic growth was driven mainly by our US based
businesses, V&S Utilities and Creative Pultrusions, which benefitted
from a more active USA utilities market.
delivering a number of large projects in the transmission, rail and cooling tower markets. Over the year, we
further developed high value products for niche markets.
These products are lightweight, corrosion resistant and offer improved installation times, thereby substituting
traditional materials. There is a growing demand for composite products and this was evident in the supply of
85 railway platform extensions for the upgrade to the Wessex Line in the UK.
