2. My draft ancillary products compared to real ones from insidious show that my ancillary products
are quite similar by having similar images like on both posters there are close ups of the main
antagonists face to make it look scary and intriguing, the layout is also very similar by having all
of the same features like cover lines and the billing block in the same areas, also by following the
route of the eye which is conventional to the layout of all magazines. The typography used is
similar to the real magazine by both being big, bold and scary looking, it also has low key
lighting of a person with dark make up on which is what I will be using on my ancillary poster.
My magazine cover compared to fangoria with insidious is quite similar by having the main cover
story being about the film with a close up image of a scary character from the film as the main
image. Also both have cover lines that make use of the left third, a cover story in bigger font than
the cover lines to do with the film and a barcode along the bottom of the magazine cover.
3. My script compared to a real script from paranormal activity shows my script to be conventional by
having lots of different scenes that are not in chronological order, also by comparing my script to a
real one it shows that my script follows the general horror film form by not revealing too much of
the storyline but builds up to worse and worse events throughout the trailer. In horror trailers there
isn’t much dialogue which is similar to our script, which makes out script more conventional and
realistic.
From comparing my storyboard to a real trailer which is paranormal activity, this shows that my
storyboard has lots of close up shots, to show the emotion of the characters, also lots of
wide/establishing shots to show the different settings used in the trailer, also with around the
same number of shots used and around the same time length. My storyboard also shows what else
will be happening in the background of scenes which helps me to compare it to real trailers and
4. My animatic shows that my trailer will be similar to real ones like this which is insidious, as it
shows lots of the same shots including an establishing shot of the setting which is a normal
house in the start of the trailer and also a lot of close up/mid shots are used throughout both
trailers making them similar and showing my trailer is conventional. The events that happen in
the trailer are similar to the events that happen in my trailer including things like setting up a
camera and young people in bed with low key lighting.
In both trailers the use of building up suspense is used through the use of scary characters,
low key lighting and sound effects. The shot lengths in the insidious trailer are similar to my
trailer with having longer shots to start off with and by the end scenes that last less than 1
second flashing on the screen to create tension and help to show the storyline better.
