Compare Contrast Essay Topic Ideas
Writing an essay on the topic of "Compare Contrast Essay Topic Ideas" can be both challenging
and rewarding. The difficulty lies in the need for comprehensive research, critical thinking, and a
nuanced understanding of the chosen subjects for comparison. Crafting a well-structured essay
requires careful planning and organization to effectively highlight the similarities and differences
between the selected topics.
One of the initial challenges is identifying suitable subjects for comparison. The topics should be
relevant, engaging, and offer enough material for meaningful analysis. Once chosen, a thorough
exploration of each topic is necessary to gather sufficient information for comparison. This step
involves delving into various sources, such as books, articles, and reputable websites, to ensure a
well-informed discussion.
The next hurdle involves structuring the essay coherently. A clear introduction is essential to
provide context and introduce the chosen topics. The body paragraphs must systematically
present the points of comparison, ensuring a logical flow and smooth transition between ideas.
Balancing the focus on both similarities and differences while maintaining a cohesive narrative
can be challenging but is crucial for a successful essay.
Moreover, crafting a strong thesis statement that encapsulates the main argument of the essay
adds another layer of complexity. This statement should guide the reader and provide a roadmap
for the comparison that follows. Additionally, ensuring that each point made is supported by
evidence and examples requires meticulous attention to detail.
The conclusion of the essay is equally important, summarizing the key points and reinforcing the
thesis. It should leave a lasting impression on the reader and drive home the significance of the
chosen topics in relation to the overall theme.
In conclusion, writing a compare and contrast essay on the topic of "Compare Contrast Essay
Topic Ideas" demands a combination of research, analytical skills, and effective communication.
However, with dedication and a structured approach, the process can be navigated successfully.

Wild West Show History
Wild West shows were the amusement parks of our time. They were full of fun
and entertainment. These shows were also responsible for the images of the Wild
West we think of today. In the book, True Grit, Mattie hears that Rooster Cogburn
is in a Wild West show. She goes to see the Cole Younger and Frank James Wild
West show and finds out that Rooster is dead. Wild West shows
were what shaped our
idea of the Wild West, our ideas of fun, and the name cowboy.
Wild West Shows were a form of entertainment composed of scenes from the early,
western United States. They included many sorts of back territory feats. Some of
them included horseback riding, marksmanship or sharpshooting, and rope twirling (
wild west show ). They traveled all over the United States to perform. They even
went to show a performance to the Queen of England ( A Brief History )! People
mostly came for entertainment, excitement, and thrill ( Wild West Shows ).
Buffalo Bill was the one who created these shows. William F. Buffalo Bill Cody was
born on February 26, 1846 in LeClaire, Iowa ( Buffalo Bill Cody ). At age eleven, he
moved away from his family to herd cattle and to work as a driver on a wagon train,
a train of wagons and horses transporting supplies. After those jobs he tried gold
mining and fur ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
On January 10, 1917, Buffalo Bill passed away ( Buffalo Bill Cody ). He was
buried on Lookout Mountain in Colorado, overlooking Denver and the plains ( A
Brief History ). Although Buffalo Bill himself was gone his legacy lives on. He
was the creator of the common myth of The Old West, with its bandits, indians,
and cowboys, like we see in Hollywood movies today ( Buffalo Bill Cody ). Buffalo
Bill also was equal to people like cowboys, giving them the respect and dignity that
others did not ( A Brief History ). Buffalo Bill was a remarkable man who, through

Doug Sulliman Research Paper
During the summer of 1979, Doug Sulliman was part of a bumper crop of future
NHLers chosen in the opening round of the league s annual entry draft. Included
were the likes of Mike Gartner, Rick Vaive, Ray Bourque, Paul Reinhart and
Michel Goulet. Taken 13th overall by the New York Rangers, Sulliman played 11
NHL seasons with the Rangers, Hartford, New Jersey and Philadelphia. He then
worked as an assistant coach for three seasons in New Jersey and also three with
Phoenix. That works out to an impressive 17 years in the show. Sulliman s story
begins in the former coal mining town of Glace Bay. Born in 1959, his generation
was perhaps one of the last in these parts that played hockey on backyard rinks and
frozen ponds practically all winter long. Yeah, the ponds were frozen and the
reservoir was frozen in Glace Bay, he... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
My father had the most influence on me, Sulliman said. We had that rink and we
were on it all the time. Coming home from work, he d always be out there
shoveling it off and watering it down. Buddy Sulliman, by the way, suited up with
the 1955 56 Glace Bay Cinderella Miners hockey team that we featured recently on
these pages. In his day, Dad was a real tough player who had a reputation, said
Sulliman. I used to watch him play when I was a kid and I thought games only
lasted one period because he d always have his gear over his shoulder because he
got thrown out for fighting or something. He once told me, If you get into a fight
on the ice, let the other guy know he was in one. That bit of advice lasted
throughout my entire career. Of course, minor hockey played an enormous role in
Sulliman s upbringing. The venue for his games and practice sessions was the once
historic Glace Bay Miners Forum, which has since been replaced by the Bayplex

Do Gucci Catalogs Stack Up in Direct Marketing
Case 2: Do Gucci Catalogs Stack Up in Direct Marketing?
Catalogs, one type of direct mail merchandising, have been increasing in
popularity as consumers look toward convenience in their shopping. Catalog
business has even been expanding on the international horizon, Harris Catalog
Library has offered 1,250 domestic and international catalogs for patrons to order
from. Catalog libraries can be found close to home in U.S. libraries, and as far away
as Japanese department stores. The Japanese have been especially fond of shopping
by catalog, since by ordering American products directly from catalogs, savings up to
30 or 40 percent can be had over local retailers. Total U.S. catalog saleswere $78.6
billion in 1997 and were expected ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This game, therefore, not only benefits Gucci by stimulating readership
(due to the consumer s increased scrutiny of the catalog for lucky numbers); but
serves as an inducement for the customer to make a catalog purchase.
Unfortunately, while the marketing department feels that they have a winning
strategy, top management is not so sure. Before authorizing the implementation of this
plan, top management wants a marketing researcher to discover if the plan is a
viable one. Based on the researcher s report, management will decide whether or not
to give marketing the green light.

Nitrous Oxide
After James began to consider the possible different explanations for the ambiguities
that exist in human consciousness, he began to experiment with drugs, specifically
nitrous oxide. Nitrous oxide is a chemical that is more commonly known at laughing
gas that is used most commonly in dental offices and it is a substance that alters the
conscious state of a person. In an article published in 1996 in the Atlantic, Dmitri
Tymoczko explores the often unknown influence of Nitrous Oxide on the thought of
James. Unbeknown to most people, James began to experiment with this drug while
he was trying to uncover the secrets of human consciousness. In an article published
by James anonymously in The Atlantic Monthly in 1874, James argued that the secrets

Maze Runner Dystopian
The Maze Runner is a film categorised as dystopian fiction as it contains several
elements that portray a dystopian society. The film depicts the themes of fear and
control as well as civilisation and savagery. These themes can be seen through the
characters and the dystopian setting. Technological control is also explored
throughout the film and the protagonist, Thomas is illustrated as a dystopian
character throughout the duration of the film. Lighting, tints, camera angles, camera
shots, diegetic and non diegetic sound further develop The Maze Runneras dystopian
fiction.

The theme of fear and control is explored in the film through lighting and camera
angles. These film techniques build the theme and depict its role in a dystopian
society effectively. The low camera angle used when Gally is confronting Thomas
portrays Gally as the dominant figure, which emphasises his emotional response to
the Glade being destroyed. Gally has fallen victim to the complete control
W.C.K.D. has over the boys in the Glade. The lighting in this scene is low key and
further emphasises the theme of fear and control by highlighting the fear visible on
Gally s face. The scene of the boys home, the Glade being destroyed in the
background of the confrontation and brings to light the extent of the savagery
present in The Maze Runner. Civilisation and savagery is a theme prevalent
throughout the movie and is represented by the Grievers, a hybrid monster placed
into the Maze by W.C.K.D.to instil fear. During the scene where Newt is talking to
Thomas near the campfire diegetic sounds can be heard of the Maze changing during
the night. The cold, mechanical sounds of stone and metal moving in the background
connotes the kind of civilisation that lies beyond the Maze walls. These sounds
directly contrast the inviting light of the fire which, representing warmth however
this semblance of happiness is soon destroyed. The close up of curiosity
How Motivational Appeal Can Be Using Deceive Others
Essay
There are many ways motivational appeal can be utilized to deceive others. In the
film Promised Land two of the main characters, Sue and Steve, utilize the
motivational concept of fear to enact deception. However, Frank Yates (a respected
member of the community who opposes the town s acceptance of Global) employs
fear and ingratiation to undermine the natural gascompany and expose the deception
that Global has employed, not only to the town but to Steve Butler as well. This
paper will illustrate how fear, warmth, and ingratiation play a vital role in the
development and ultimate detection of Global s deception.
Steve Butler and Sue Thomason are two sales executive from the natural gas
company, Global, they visit the town of Mckinley with the intentions of leasing the
town for natural gas drilling; in order to accomplish this Butler and Thomason
enact deception to convince the residents of the town that natural gas is their only
option. Butler and his partner Sue Thomason make their first pitch to lease land to
the Allen family who have two young children. Thomason, a mother of a teenage
boy herself, utilizes fear to deceive Mrs. Allen (from whom they are trying to lease
land) that the only way Mrs. Allen s young son will have a bright future is if they
allow Global to come into their town and lease their land for drilling. While trying to
convince the family that leasing their land is the right decision Thomason says to
Mrs. Allen, Even before the drilling, the
Peculiar Circumstances During the Baroque Era
One of the most important eras in the history of classical music, was undoubtedly the
Baroque Era. This period lasted from 1650 to 1750, and largely stemmed from the
musical innovations of both Italy and Germany. Through this era, the arrangements
such as the concerto and the sonata were produced, as well as mastery of the organ
and other instruments. Two of perhaps the most influential artists of this era were
Arcangelo Corelli and George Fridric Handel.
Before discussing the styles and techniques that emerged and were reformed during
the Baroque Period of music, first the cultural background must be discussed. The
Baroque Period of Music lasted from 1650 to 1750, and really was heavily
influenced by two particular countries: Italy and Germany (Sartorius). In Italy,
architecture and the layout of the city of Rome had been completely revived because
of the Renaissance period, and this new innovation in architecture inspired music
(Sartorius). Musicians aspired to experiment with music, and try new innovations to
make their compositions sound fresh and original (Sartorius). Meanwhile, up in
Germany, composers were desperate to get in the various courts of royalty that
existed at that time, due to the fact that Germany was broken up into many states
(Sartorius). If composers could become the court musicians for nobility, it could
insure great fame, job security, and profits (Sartorius). Thus, the Baroque period of
Music was inspired by architectural advancement in Italy, and
Survival of the Marine Corps Essay
SURVIVAL OF THE MARINE CORPS
The Marine Corps historical characteristics after the Civil War could be based in
part on survivability and the need for the Marine Corps to prove its worth to the
United States as a Military Force. The Marine Corps part in the Civil War had been
small and not altogether impressive. Both the Army and the Navy did not regard the
Marine Corps as useful. This paper will in effect touch on the Marine Corps history
from after the Civil War to World War I. It will then converge on a discussion with
regards to the fight against the disestablishment of the Marine Corps. (Simmons

Doyen. They were joined by the 6th regiment and in March of 1918 were
subsequently fed into the fighting front near Verdun, now a quiet bit of the front.
(Simmons/Moskin 1998)
This set the scene for one of the most famous Marine battles of WWI. The German
Offensive was too much for the tired French Divisions and only thing between the
Germans and the road to Paris was the Fourth Marine Brigade (made up of the fifth
and sixth regiments) and the 2nd Infantry Division. It was also the sight for one of
the most famous quotes in Marine Corps History. (Simmons/Moskin 1998)
The 2d Battalion, 5th Marines had just arrived at its position when an automobile
skidded to a stop and a French officer dashed out and approached the commanding
officer. He explained that a general retreat was in progress and that orders were for
the Marines to withdraw. The Marine officer, Captain Lloyd Williams exclaimed in
amazement, quot;Retreat Hell! We just got here! quot; (Website For Young Marines,

Soon after the Germans learned a lesson in marksmanship they would not forget. A
line was formed across the road to Paris along a wooded area known as Belleau
Woods. As the Germans approached, they came under rifle fire that was accurate at
ranges beyond their comprehension, up to 800 yards. The deadly fire took the heart
out of the German troops, and the

Physical Security Attack on Sony Pictures
Sony Pictures is one of the American entertainment company, which was founded on
December 21st, 1987. At first it was called as Columbia Pictures Entertainment Inc.,
later in August 7th 1991, it was named as Sony Pictures Entertainment Inc., also
known as Sony Pictures.
Sony Pictures suffered its first breach in 2011, where one million user accounts were
hacked. But the hack happened on November 2014, included 100 terabytes of data
being stolen and it effected the company a lot.

Ways to Improve Organization s Physical Security
Sony Pictures must pay attention to the physical security to prevent breaches in the
future. GOP already mentioned that they were able to enter the organizations
building because of open doors. The concept of open doors must be stopped. There
should be a tight security maintained at the building entrance. All employees and
visitors are required to use access cards or badges to enter into the building. Access
given to a particular person should be based on the role he/she is performing in the
company. This will limit people going to unauthorized areas.
Another important thing is always to maintain a separate security team. Security
team can be either physical or data oriented. Physical security team will monitor all
the surveillances and check the perimeters of the building to prevent authorized
people entering into the building and data security team will check the company s log
files frequently to see if there is any unauthorized activity happened.
Finally the company should update the employees with the security policies and
procedures to prevent the attacks.

Within one week, 125,000 railroad workers were engaged in a sympathy protest.
The government swore in 3,400 deputies. President Cleveland moved in federal
troops to break the strike, despite a plea by then governor Aitgeld of Illinois that
such a move was unnecessary. A sweeping federal court injunction forced an end to
the sympathy strike, and many railroad workers were blacklisted. The Pullman
strikers were starved into defeat (Britannica, 2002). nbsp; nbsp; nbsp; nbsp; nbsp;At
the time, before labor laws or standards, this strike showed the tendency of the
federal government to offer moral support to the companies and use military force to
break strikes. The injunction, usually issued immediately by compliant judges at the
request of government officials, became a prime legal weapon against union
organizers and actions. nbsp; nbsp; nbsp; nbsp; nbsp; The modern model for
government intervention in a strike came about in 1902. On May 12, of this year,
mineworkers in northeastern Pennsylvania went on strike under the name of the
United Mine Workers. More than 100,000 miners spent that summer on strike,
keeping the mines closed. After mine owners refused a proposal for arbitration,
President Theodore Roosevelt intervened. On October 16, 1902, Roosevelt appointed
a commission of mediation and arbitration. Five days later, the miners returned to
their jobs and five

Plato Republic And Video Games Essay
Both Plato s Republic and videogames offer people a unique outlook on Justice.
Video Games especially role playing games allow players to create their own justice
(or lack of justice). Through the player s choices justice either reveals itself in
unexpected ways or it simply does not exist, and all is controlled by what the player
chooses. The same can be said for The Republic it may not be a videogame in the
same sense but it is still a mind game. Socrates and the interlocutors are creating a
city with their minds, to find justice on a much smaller scale, being the soul. Plato
makes it clear that the city is not real and should be treated as such. The same goes
for a videogame, one must take every action and consequence with a grain of... Show

In the sick city things become a lot more complex, the city now needs an army. Not
only to protect itself from invaders but to also keep the city thriving since the city
needs resources. The only way to get those resources and by going out and fighting
for them. Video Games like Mass Effect offer one aspect of the portrayal of justice
in videogames. There is a lot of power in letting the player choose their destiny. If
the player doesn t like a decision that they made then it only intensifies the
importance of their actions. Socrates also tries to explain this to the interlocutors
when he says, Then the city must be made bigger again. This healthy one isn t
adequate any more (Plato 373B). The whole city needed to be revamped because
the consequence of Glaucon wanting a city with more stuff has changed the city
itself. Each action that is made whether in videogames or in The Republic has its
consequence. As a result of that the player or the characters have to plan
accordingly to the changes they make, and value what is really important to them.
Justice can also be portrayed in videogames through it being integrated into the
story. Developers of the game may choose to instead depict acts of justice or
injustice the way they view them instead of giving the player a choice. The goal in
the end is to connect with the player and show them a different way to view justice.

A Discussion On Sex Education
Results showed over 335 out 4,214 were cutting themselves at this point in their life.
That shows 7.9% of the students have this addiction (Hall, p. 623, 2010). While
these numbers are everlasting changing, self harm needs to be addressed to all ages
just as other addictions are spoken about. Eating disorders are taught in the early ages
of elementary school. Sex education is taught the fifth grade. Self harmis not a
discussion in sex education (Khantzian 668). The only way this addiction is taught
to children is by explaining suicidal thoughts and having those thoughts turn into
forms of self injury. Teachers and parents are not able to recognize the effects until
it reaches a point where the person can no longer hide their pain. With the numbers
of this growing addiction and the urge to begin this addiction rapidly increasing,
the factors of self harm need to be discussed as one entity instead of comparing
them to another addiction (Wang 666). Different generations and different ethnic
groups are involved when it comes to self harm addictions. There is no single self
injurer profile. The rates of self harm continue to grow, especially in certain
communities (Hall 623). In an article Non suicidal Self Injury among Ethnically and
Racially Diverse Emerging Adults, research was performed to observe those with the
addiction of NSSI in specific ethnic groups. The groups were gathered and were
consisted of multiple races such as African Americans, Asians, Caucasians, and

Because of the significance of silicon in microprocessors, the region in California
famous for computer technology is called Silicon Valley. (See also Crystals;

Silica aerogels are transparent, highly porous substances consisting of tiny spheres
of bonded silicon and oxygen atoms joined into long strands. The strands are
separated by innumerable air spaces. Although they are solids, aerogels have
remarkably low densities, appearing almost like frozen wisps of smoke. They are one
of the lightest known solids. They also have the highest thermal resistance of any
solid ever tested and thus could have important applications as high efficiency
insulators and radiation detectors.

Slaughterhouse s Wastewater Treatment Plant
The influent, after screening and decanting is stored to the flow and organic load
equalization tank and then inflows at a rate of QF = 80m3 d 1 to the SNdN activated
sludge system. The SNdN system actually functions as an autonomous treatment
plant where oxidation of organic pollutants, nitrification/denitrification and
suspended solids sedimentation are taking place. Furthermore a sludge recycling
from the secondary clarifier to the aeration tank is performed so as to ensure the
required microbiological load (5000 В± 450 mg L 1). The aeration tank of the SNdN
activated sludgesystem operates under low D.O. concentration (between 0,2 to 0,7
mg L 1). According to Mercalf and Eddy (2003), under low D.O. concentration
conditions, low nitrification rates result, as the activated sludge floc will be partially
aerobic. Denitrification occurs in the anoxic zones within the floc particles due to
oxygen depletion. These conditions results nitrogen removal in a single aeration
tank, referred as simultaneous nitrification and denitrification (Mercalf and Eddy,
2003). In such systems, although usually both nitrification and denitrification are
occurring at low rates, relative high SRT and HRT values achieves significant
nitrogen removal (Mercalf and Eddy, 2003). The SRT and HRT values of the SNdN
system studied are 29 and 0,75 days respectively.
Subsequently the overflowing effluent of the SNdN system is then transferred for
further treatment in the PCMAS part of the WWTP. The PCMAS is
Greying Population
The Graying Population of England
There are several effects and problems caused by the fact that the population of the
Britain appears to be growing older. Britain is made from four countries, England,
Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland which are controlled by a central government
in London, England. Within this essay I will include a history and demography of
Britain followed by an overview of the problem caused by a graying population. I will
then attempt to identify the numerous problems, causes and effects of a graying
population and eventually offer some solutions. Then I will attempt to round the
essay off with an effective conclusion which will identify the key body of my text
and give a general consensus of what I have stated. ... Show more content on

The war also cost the British government most of its money. As a result, the British
Government struggled to keep control of the Empire when the war ended. From
1948 to present day most of the countries once controlled by the British Empire have
become independent and the British Empire is no longer in existence. However,
many of the countries that were part of the British Empire kept the same government
and educational systems and some retained the British Queen as their figurehead, for
example in Canada, Australia and New Zealand. The last part of the British Empire
to be ruled by the British Government in London was Hong Kong. England lost their

Social Influence of Television Advertisement on Children a...
CHAPTER ONE 1. BACKGROUND TO THE STUDY Social influence is defined
as a change in an individual s thoughts, feelings, attitudes, or behaviors that results
from interaction with another individual or a group of people . Social influence is
distinct from conformity, power, and authority. French and Raven (1959) provided
an early formalization of the concept of social influence in their discussion of the
bases of social power. For French and Raven, agents of change included not just
individuals and groups, but also norms and roles. They viewed social influence as the
outcome of the exertion of social power from one of five bases: reward power,
coercive power, legitimate power, expert power, or referent power. A change in

Well when a young child sees something like that they can only think but to go try it
themselves and maybe they will have fun and enjoy themselves. Children that are
trying smoking are becoming younger and younger. Smoking has nothing good to
offer to children but health problems later on in life. Television impacts children the
most as far as advertising goes. Many children as young as three years old recognize
brand named products and clothing. When these children spend time watching so
much television they cannot help but be influenced by it; and want what they see.
These children become so obsessed with having what they see on television that they
continue to hassle their parents until they get it Some parents may even have trouble
keeping up with the amount of money theft child thinks that they need so they may
have the newest products out there. These children that are watching more television,
are going to want more toys seen in advertisements and eat more advertised food than
children who do not watch as much television (Strasburger, 2001). The British
Medical Association, responding to the Government s White Paper of November
2004, recommends an outright ban on advertising foods to children in the UK (see

Gender Segregation During The Workplace
While women are not the majority in many fields of work in our society, the
positions they do hold show the unequal sexual segregation by men. Through
gendered practices presented to us at birth and childhood, our society forms the
basis as to what field s men and women can work in separately. Through the
processes of patriarchy and capitalism, men have become the powerful actors in
terms of dominating work. Because of this gendersegregation among occupations, we
see a pattern where female dominated occupations are typically paid less, even though
they exist in such fewer numbers. As women became financially dependent upon men
during the capitalist mode of production, they were expected to do the majority of the
housework duties. Today, we are experiencing more women in the workforce than
ever before, however, the great majority of women in the workplace have entered
female dominated occupations (Mason, 1992:24). Furthermore, while housework has
declined slightly for women, they are still estimated to do 1.6 times the amount of
housework compared to men today.
As discussed throughout the course, the construction of gender starts with an
individual based on their sex at the time of birth. Babies are dressed in ways that
display their gender and are treated accordingly. Throughout childhood, children learn
gender behaviors and feelings through school, parents, friends, family, and the media.

Benefits Of Being Vegetarianism
Why should humans be vegetarian?
More and more, some good quality meat is becoming very expensive. Since a can
of chickpeas is less expensive and easier to cook, a lot of Quebec College students
decide to take the meat out of their diet. Everyone should do like those people and be
vegetarian for the benefits that it as for society and the environment. This diet is
good for the human health, it helps save the planet and it helps save the animals.
First, there are many health benefits that comes with being vegetarian. In the Harvard
Health Publishing, the searchers describe the way that vegetarianism can help your
body. Compared with meat eaters, vegetarians tend to consume less saturated fat
and cholesterol and more vitamins C and E, dietary fiber, folic acid, potassium,
magnesium, and phytochemicals (plant chemicals), such as carotenoids and
flavonoids. As a result, they re likely to have lower total and LDL (bad) cholesterol,
lower blood pressure, and lower body mass index (BMI), all of which are associated
with longevity and a reduced risk for many chronic diseases. The major diseases
that vegetarianism can prevent are heart disease, cancer and type 2 diabetes. In
fact, vegetarians are 25% less likely to die from a heart disease than meat eaters. This
means that a lot of people could be saved with this diet. Personally, if I could do
anything to live longer and healthier, I would do it. Nowadays, we eat a lot of junk
food, and more and more people are dying because
Noah Vs Gilgamesh
We recently read two stories in class from two very different cultures. One from
Mesopotamian literature called The Epic of Gilgamesh, and one from Hebrew
literature called Noah and the Flood , which is from Genesis. Since they are both
creation stories, there are a few key similarities, but, being that they are from these
two different cultures, there will be multiple cultural belief differences. Between the
stories Noahand the Flood and the Epic Of GIlgamesh, there are a few important
similarities. The first main similarity is the fact that the gods from both stories
were mad at their people, and decided to exterminate mankind. In the Epic, Enlil s
naps were disturbed by how noisy the people were, whereas God in Noah and the
Flood stated that his people were becoming wicked and he said he regretted
making man on Earth. When the gods decided to wipe their people out, they both
appointed one person to hold the fate of the Earth s people. At this point, the gods
realized they had to get all of the animals onto a boat (or ark) to float above the
wretched waters that lie below. So, they gave their prophets very specific
measurements for their boat/ark. After the flood the two had to know when the
flooding and the storm were done, so they both got the idea to... Show more content

God told him that he was disappointed with how wicked the people had become and
that Noah was the only righteous man. So, he assembled his ark, which was
smaller than Utnapishtim s. He built it with his family and filled the boat with two
of each animal. In Genesis, the flood lasted forty days and forty nights. To go out
and find land post flood, Noah sent out two birds, one twice. One raven, which
came back, then the same dove twice, which came back the second time with an
olive branch. When all was said and done, God thanks Noah by sending His bow in

William Woolf And The Death Of Ivan
It s the year 2014. We have discovered flight, we have been to outer space, we have
the Internet. We even have GPS shoes for those who can t read a map. What more
is there to learn, to discover, to create? Yet we are never satisfied, constantly hungry
for more answers to our questions. For writers like Leo Tolstoy and Virginia Woolf
,
understanding the world and its intricacies is essential. However, their approaches to
truthdiffer: Tolstoy argues in The Death of Ivan Ilych that there is a clear truth while
in her short story Monday or Tuesday, Woolf sees it as more ambiguous. Regardless
of whether there is a definite truth, these two works reveal that it can only be reached
through experience. It is the journey to find truth that is often more important than
the truth itself. Woolf and Tolstoy experiment with perspective and language to
illuminate their understanding of truth. Tolstoy, a Realist, aims to enlighten society
through his exploration of fundamental questions about life, and his narrator is
crucial to this mission. In The Death of Ivan Ilych, Tolstoy s use of third person
omniscient narration gives the reader full access to the necessary information that
Ivan and the other characters lack. Although Ivan may not understand life s essence
until his final moments, the mere fact that there is an all knowing narrator suggests
that there is a definite underlying theme to unveil. Moreover, the narrator
encapsulates Ivan s superficial world with simple language

Conquistadors Summary
The reshaping of the New World began the moment Spaniards set foot on the
continent. Those first conquistadors documented their encounters with native
peoples, emphasizing their desire to convert these peoples to Christianity and away
from their heathenistic rituals. The documents presented by Stuart B. Schwartz
portray accounts from the perspectives of both the conquerors and the conquered. His
work does not provide much in the way of personal interpretation but rather displays
the documents so the reader can compare better both sides of the New World
inhabitants. These documents present an opportunity to consider moments of
heroism, greed, and despair born during the clashing of Spanish and Nahua cultures
and challenge the way historians view such cultures and the interpretation of primary
texts. Schwartz s goal, it would seem, is not to persuade readers of the accuracy of
one source over another but rather to call attention to how personal interests, class
and ethnic biases, and politics influence the interpretation of the conquering of the
Aztec empire. Irene Silverblatt examines the new Spanish lands after Spaniards have
established themselves in and amongst the native peoples. She describes the
development of a modern world through the views of Spanish imperialism and argues
that the Inquisition provides such evidence. Using church records, sermons, and
missionary guides, Silverblatt examines how the modern world was build,

Switching Costs
Since there are many stores, like McDonald s and Starbucks that are also providing
all kinds of healthy smoothies with a price that is similar to Jamba Juice s, buyers
actually will not face high switching costs. Therefore, low switching costs enhance
the bargaining power of buyers.
Product is Undifferentiated
Even though Jamba Juice advertizes that its products are healthy, low in calories and
rich in vitamins, many other stores also provide the similar smoothies or fast foods.
This indicates that Jamba Juice s products are not differentiated. Consumers can still
find products in other stores that are familiar to Jamba Juice s, which enhances the
power of buyers.
Power of suppliers
For restaurant retailers, the power of suppliers is high. This can be indicated by lack
of substitute produces and low importance of restaurants as buyers.
Availability of Substitutes
Although Jamba Juice demands a large amount of agricultural commodities to help
produce the healthy and organic smoothies, these commodities are limited. There are
not other substitutes can replace these agricultural commodities to make smoothies as
healthy as the organic raw materials. Hence, this gives the suppliers the opportunities
to raise the price or decrease the quality of the agricultural commodities.
Importance of Customer to Supplier
Besides Jamba Juice, many restaurant and foodservice stores need agricultural

Analysis Of Not Just A Story
Not Just a Story
Digital storytelling provides an authentic personal learning experience as such;
student investment is greatly increased resulting in greatly improved motivation and
end product (Jakes, n.d.). David Jakes s quote gives us a quick glance into the realm
of digital storytelling. Digital storytelling is the use of digital multimedia that
includes music, video, voice, and pictures to tell about a topic such as a personal
story, or anything else one would want. Joe Lambert (2013) defines it into three
different spectrums, collaboration between facilitator and storyteller , the role of
literary voice and style that grows out of it , and the form the stories take (p. 37).
These stories can take on very emotional ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Many digital stories illustrate this quote perfectly. The relationships built in the
author s life helped guide them through to either find their passion or show them
through a tough time. We are social beings, and being connected is shown to make
you healthier, make you happier, and is also critical to being a human.
Confronting bias is also another theme that comes into play in the process of digital
storytelling. Whether that bias is towards peoples of other faiths, colors, orientations,
or other qualities, it is important to remember that the connection that was previously
mentioned applies to everybody. The connection between all humans should more
readily accepted. This can be done by creating conversation to create understanding
between peoples. Kwame Appiah (2007) agrees that bias can be solved with
conversation saying: It begins with the simple idea that in the human community, as
in national communities, we need to develop habits of coexistence: conversation in
its older meaning, of living together, association (Appiah, XIX). Development of
better relations between humans with conversation and understanding is pivotal in
starting to eliminate some of the bias we have. Digital storytelling brings this along in
some stories with the authors using their voice to try to create social change and start
conversations within our communities.
Digital stories have a positive effect when used to gather people together. It allows
Menkaura s Social Pyramid
The Social Pyramid of Ancient EgyptThe social, political, cultural, and economic
aspects of Egypt all seem different on the surface, but in reality, are more
interconnected than one might think. The way we can see this is through scriptures,
sculptures, artworks, burial goods, and other artifacts. Statues are the most relevant to
the social aspect of Ancient Egypt, because they demonstrate the political, cultural,
and economical dynamics of Ancient Egypt, while also telling us how people related
to each other. When taking into account the social dynamics between the people of
Egypt, many statues such as King Menkaura and Queen, Akhenaten and His Family,
and The Narmer Palette, signify that the Ancient Egyptian society was centered

The statue King Menkaura (Mycerinus) and Queen demonstrates this dynamic,
however subtle. The statue was found at the Menkaura Valley Temple in Giza, and
dates back to around 2490 2472 BCE. The King Menkaura stands, arms at his side,
and sis stepping forward. His wife and Queen stands beside him with the same
royal demeanor. One of her hands winds around and places itself on his waist, and
the other rests comfortably on his arm. It shows that the pharaoh was definitely at
a point of power, but the Queen certainly helped him. A woman s position in
Ancient Egypt was, in many respects, ahead of their time. They were allowed to
hold positions of political power, and possessed the same basic human rights as
men. However, similar to most societies, women were more respected the upper
class. For example, queen Nefertiti, pharaohs Hatshepsut and Cleopatra, and the
goddess Isis were some of the most revered women in Egypt. They were revered so
not because they were women, but because they held positions of power and ruled
over the entirety of Egypt. In contrast, women in the lower classes worked as
artisans, weaving, perfume making, and other things. Women in Egypt were
expected to work in home, as the responsibilities of a mother came first. However,
women were also allowed to own and sell property, serve as witnesses in court
cases, and many other things that were otherwise considered scandalous. However,
the women s expectations in society were often unfair, as many lower class women
were not able to access positions of business or government, reflective of their
standing on the Ancient Egyptian social pyramid. The women of Ancient Egypt were
nonetheless pioneers of their own rights, and the presence of a female pharaoh is
what captured the woman s power in Egypt so
Heidegger And The Logic Of Categorical Syllogisms
Heidegger and the Logic of Categorical Syllogisms
According to traditional syllogistic logic, which has its roots in Aristotle, there are
four types of propositions: the A proposition ( All S are P ), the E proposition ( No S
are P ), the I proposition ( Some S are P ), and the O proposition ( Some S are not P ).
These propositional types represent all of the possible combinations of the
dichotomies of affirmative/negative and universal/particular. Each makes a claim that
a certain essent (the particular I and O propositions) or an entire class of essents (the
universal A and E propositions), the subject or subject class, relates in some way
(belongs or does not belong) to a class of essents designated by the predicate of the ...

For Heidegger, the meaning of a word can never be completely divorced from its
etymology; Steiner, in his work on Heidegger, quotes and then translates
Heidegger, saying, `Das Wort Philosophie spricht jetzt griechisch. This means,
literally, that the word itself, if we hear it rightly, speaks Greek. (Steiner 22)
Steiner later summarizes Heidegger s attempt to find an explanation for Being
[Sein] by tracing the etymological roots of the German word. Heidegger, according
to Steiner, finds three roots for different forms of the German verb Sein. The
German ist comes from the Indo European es, and is translated by Heidegger as life
itself and the integral. The German bin and bist derive from the Indo European bheu,
which is translated by Heidegger as that which declares itself as a phenomenon.
Finally, the German Wesen is derived from the Sanskrit vasami, which is translated
roughly as to belong to and in. (Steiner 46)
Does this etymological study bear any relationship to formal logic, or have we
wandered far afield? As it turns out, this examination has important bearings on the
theory and evaluation of categorical syllogisms. Various forms of the English verb
to be have differing etymologies, as well. The English is has the same etymological
root as the German ist, which means that it also (at least for Heidegger) carries the
meanings of life itself and the integral. The
Critical Analysis of Shakespeare s Hamlet Essay examples
Critical Analysis of Shakespeare s Hamlet
What is mans purpose in life? Is there a purpose? If there isn t, then is it wise to
end it, despite the fact that there might be nothing better? In Hamlet, by William
Shakespeare, Hamlet struggles with these and other issues. He states that the
question of life is To be, or not to be...? Is existence really worth the troubles of
life? In this monologue, Hamlet is wondering what is his purpose. He asserts that
the only reason people endure their horrible lives is the uncertainty of what lies after
death. Who would fardels bear, to grunt and sweat under a weary life, but that the
dread of something after death... Is it noble to suffer, and is life worth all its misery?

the terrible crime he committed of murdering his brother, and Ophelia, Hamlet s

This soliloquy pertanes not only to Hamlet, but to virtually all the characters in the
play. All the characters are bear[ing] the whips and scorns of their piteous lives.
The monologue is not only relevant to the characters in Hamlet, but to all people.
Many people feel at some point that their lives are not worth living . They may
question if life has a purpose, and whether or not they are serving that purpose. It is
quite easy to relate to Hamlet s feelings of woe and uncertainty. This is what makes
Hamlet timeless. No matter what century, country, or person, everyone has
experienced to some degree what Hamlet endured. Perhaps someone has just lost a
father, or undergone a divorce. They could relate to Hamlet s misery. They may not
contemplate suicide, as is what is sometimes believed about Hamlet, but they do have
questions about life, and the afterlife. Shakespeare uses Hamlet s feelings to express
his own, as well as those of all people. Because of this, Hamlet has become a classic.
Hamlet s character represents people in all circumstances. He questions everything,
and has experienced love, hate, betrayal, depression, grief, and anger. He is sometimes

Behavioral Segmentation
Behavioral segmentation divides buyers into groups based on their knowledge,
attitude towards, use of, or response to a product (Kotler Keller, 2012). When it
comes to needs and benefits, you would primarily see health conscious individuals
or parents buying for their families; water, healthy oatmeal, juices, maybe diet soda,
multi grain snacks, and Quaker granola bars. In the decision role, we have the

everyone has a thought or opinion; however, in the end the buyer who does the

Safe Password
We talk about basic questions how to set up a safe password. We usually use
passwords for identification and authentication, so the way to set up passwords is
very important. Now we introduce three best practices about passwords
identification and authentication. The first way is using smart card. The smart
card is a very safe device to get authentication. It can save up to 20 public key
certificates. It is used to log in and encrypt files with codes. The passwords that it
generates just are authenticated in one time. The user can get a unique code
number that is generated every 60 seconds. If people want to sign in the website,
they have to enter the unique code and PIN or phrase forming a password, which is
given by RSA ACE/Serve. People are required to have hardware and software at the

Role Of Ghost In Hamlet
Question 12
Shakespeare s introduction of a ghost in Hamlet serves various objectives in the
play, to the characters as well as the audience. The ghost is a controversial character
who challenges the audience s view of the plot, the motifs, as well as the flow of
events in the story. The appearance of the ghost is associated with tragedy, usually
where the humans entangle with the supernatural forces, but in this case, the ghost
seems to conform to human capabilities and relies on other human beings to meet its
objectives. The presentation of the ghost in the play, from its motives to its
appearance highlight the human traits over the supernatural capabilities. The
characteristics of the ghost suggest that it might be a construct of Hamlet, and his
friends, in trying to make sense of the events leading to the death of his father, as
well as a coping mechanism. The narrative gives Hamlet, a son who loved his
father, justification as well as the reason to execute revenge against his uncle who
took the father s life despite the deviation that exists in his character. Hamlet is
considered as the calm and collected character, and engaging in violence is not part
of his personality, and as such the conviction that Hamlet is mad.
The ghost is Hamlet is presented as a vengeful character, Hamlet s father, the fallen
king, murdered by his brother. These attributes of his character draw from the theme
of revenge associated with the works of Shakespeare, and the audience is allowed the

The Shipwreck That Cast a Catfish
Today s technology allows one to make friends on the opposite side of the world;
one can see another s hobbies, music, and photos with just a click of a mouse. But
sometimes one s profile isn t always what it seems; people can generate fake
accounts to talk to strangers. Under a pseudonym people can protect their identity
and portray themselves as someone different; this is known as catfishing. In
Shakespeare s Twelfth Night, the characters don t have the technology we have now
but a shipwreck began the series of catfishing in the Dukedom Illyria. The confusing
love triangle encompasses Viola as a girl who dresses as a man named Cesario and

for her wealth and live a lavish live of luxary. Sharp tongued Maria says, Obverse

idiot of him. Maria writes a fake letter in a handwriting like that of Olivia s to
disguise herself and convince Malvolio that Olivia is writing the letter. When
people catfish today they will use pictures of someone to create a fake profile in
hopes of luring people in; in this case, the letter is the bait. Maria and the others
have become extremely fed up with Malvlio s behavior and acted out in ways of
deception. The events after Malvolio finds the letter on the ground is an episode of
self validation and justification. In the letter written by Maria she writes in Olivia
s handwriting saying, M.O.A.I This simulation is not as the former, and / yet to
crush this a little, it would bow to me... Malvolio believes that this vague acronym
is about him and begins the snowball effect of catfishing. During this scene, Sir
Toby Belch and Sir Andrew are hiding in the hedges and laughing at Malvolio s
foolishness. The letter goes on to say how Olivia has feelings for Malvolio but
cannot act on them because of her status. She requires him to dress and act a certain

Preservation Digital Art Analysis
Preservation The Preservation is a digital art piece that demonstrates several different
meanings. This piece invokes fear and discomfort by exhibiting how oil, gas and
chemical industries are destroying the earth and humanity with pollution and toxin.
The artist uses two arms to represent the way of life. One side presents a beautiful,
pure, and an unharmed world, and the other shows darkness, death, the destruction of
earth, and how it is taking over. This piece of art is aimed towards the oil, gas and
chemical industries. The Preservation is on the Deviantart.com, created by

Also, how it displays the overpowering of death, destruction, and darkness. This
piece of digital art can be compared to a similar painting on Italianrenaissance.org,
The Creation of Adam, a painting in the Sistine Chapel created by Michelangelo in
1512. In this work, God s right arm is outstretched to reveal the spark of life from his
own finger into that of Adam, whose left arm is extended in a position reflecting
God s, a reminder that man is formed in the reflection and resemblance of God.
Another point is that Adam s finger and God s finger are not touching. It gives the
sense that God, the provider of life, is extending out to Adam who has yet to
accept it. In the preservation piece the two arms represent humanity, and the left
arm is covered with earth and all living creations of God. The right arm is covered
by a world full of fire, burning from the inside out. Another point is the left side has
blue skies showing a sign tranquility, relaxation, and peace, with white clouds. The
color white is to represent Innocence and purity. While the right has, black smoke
filled clouds coming from a refinery created by man, black shows to absorb all
aspects of light and signify power, and fear. Looking at the two hands with the
fingers extended out the right hand shows the pointer finger soaked and dripping oil

A Joint Venture With Pernod Ricard
The Republic of Poland, also known by its shortened name of Poland, has strong
ties to the United States. America has been a very powerful ally to Poland for
many years. The spirits sector of Poland s alcohol market is quickly growing with
the vodka segment as one of the country s largest sources of income. As a lucrative
business already established in the US and attempting to enter Polish markets, we will
enter a joint venturewith Pernod Ricard, a very successful alcohol and spirits
company with operations here in America and abroad in Poland. Through an in depth
look at Poland s spirits market we will provide support for why we are choosing to
enter Poland through a joint venture and how we plan to control our abroad
operations. A strategic plan detailing how we will use our joint venture and then
market, position, price, and promote our products are also included..
Pernod Ricard is an extablished alcohol and spirits company with operations in both
the US and in Poland. In the past it has entered two lucrative joint ventures. The first
took place in 1993 with Havana Club International, which was a 50/50 joint venture
(Pernod Ricard, 18). In 2011 Pernod Ricard entered into a joint venture with Tequila
AviГіn but it only held a minority percentage of 20% in this joint venture until
recently (Viladon). In July 2014, it spent approximately $100 million to gain the
majority share in this joint venture giving it control with 84% (Viladon). With this

Colonization of Egypt
What is a good country? Is a good country a country with a cheerful population? Is a
good country a country which controls more land than the next? Is a good country a
country whose government and economic system has absolutely no problems? Or is
a good country a country that has a delicate balance of benefits and problems. Well,
we are here today to discuss the corruption of Egypt, a good country, by Britain, a
huge and powerful country. Although Britain was not the first, Britain has retained
control of Egypt for nearly 40 years and I am here today to ask for the freedom and
decolonization of Egypt from Britain. br br This problem all started in 1882 when
the British forced Napoleon Bonaparte, the leader of the French Army, out of... Show

Unfortunately, this pristine army was used entirely as a British commodity,
without any Egyptian permission. The new army was composed of mostly high to
upper class citizens. These citizens were chosen either because they had enough
money to leave Egypt, or they were rebellious. The citizens were shipped to a
British camp in Cairo where they were stripped of their money and clothes. They
were given one uniform, a rifle, and a pair of shoes. The following day they would
begin learning deadly techniques for battle. Throughout this process, the Egyptian
citizens thought that they would be used for defensive purposes. Little did they
know that the British were planning to use them to do their dirty work in battles that
were totally non Egypt related The Egyptians could do nothing to avoid this unfair
ruling by the British. If decolonized, Egyptians could be rid of this problem and live
in love, not fear. br br Oddly enough, the only things that the British improved in
Egypt were the health care, education, and improved farming methods. This
improvement was not for the Egyptians however, but for the traders and merchants
which stayed in Egypt while crossing the Suez Canal. Although the Egyptians did
not benefit from these improved resources, they were still expected to pay for it in
the form of taxes. br br The economy of Egypt, according to the constitution of 1971,
is one based on socialism, with the people controlling all means of production. The

Essay about Ethics and Gatekeeping in The Media
Gatekeeping is controlling access to goods, services, or information, usually applied
by individuals or groups in hierarchical organizations. (CSA). As it applies to media,
gatekeeping refers to the method in which information is filtered for distribution, this
can be done through the internet, print or broadcasting. Due to the power that
gatekeepers wield in controlling what we as the public read, hear or see, there are
many ethical concerns to be considered and liberties to be safeguarded. Rupert
Murdochis a prime example of a gatekeeper. He is the Founder, Chairman and Chief
Executive Officer of News Corporation. In 2010, News Corporation was the third
largest media conglomerate in terms of revenue, earning $24.73 billion dollars...

CEO and Co chairman of DND Capital Partners, L.L.C., a private equity firm
specializing in media and telecommunications investments (Bloomberg). Needless
to say, Dauman has more than enough experience to helm News Corp. Of all the
numerous positions that Dauman has held during his illustrious career, his time as
CEO at Viacom is likely the most influential and the position where he served as a
gatekeeper. We will analyze and examine the choices that were made under his
leadership at Viacom as a method for determining how he will manage News Corp.
Viacom has numerous media holdings such as MTV, BET, CMT, Nickelodeon,
Spike TV, VHI, Comedy Central, TV Land and Paramount Films. In his time as CEO
of Viacom, Dauman has remained mostly behind the scenes. Unlike Murdoch who is
often in the public eye, Dauman believes that being invisible gives him a competitive
edge and causes his competitors to underestimate and overlook him (Bourgeault). He
has brought unity to the company, by implementing a strategy of investing inwards
and has seen his fair share of scandals. Viacom has been at the receiving end of racist
allegations which have not stopped since Dauman took over the reigns. In August of

Symbolism In Esperanza Rising
Esperanza Ortega of El Rancho de las Rosas is a young Hispanic girl that must
overcome strenuous obstacles in order to help her family. The novel Esperanza
Rising by Pam MuГ±oz Ryan has many symbols that contribute to the theme, but one
of the major motifs present is the process of crocheting the quilt. This symbol lasts
throughout the entire book, but the message only gets stronger for this symbol goes
hand in hand with the storyline. Esperanza is an only child in her family, and during
this time it was not acceptable for womanto own land. When Esperanza s papa gets
killed there were no other men in the family, so the land that Esperanza had grew
up on and loved would soon all be taken away, unless her mama sacrificers herself
and marries the rude brother of Esperanza s papa. This idea of men owning land is
one main reason why Esperanza s family must migrate to California. If Esperanza
was male, this story would not exist because the land would be given to her. Since
Esperanza is a female, the story has a complication in the plot that needs to be
overcame. This is the first obstacle that Esperanza must triumph over: leaving home
to somewhere unknown. Throughout the book Esperanza, mama, and abuelita work
on crocheting a quilt. The crocheting of this quilt has a special process that relates
greatly to the journey Esperanza takes. In order to crochet like abuelita you must add
ten stitches up to the top of the mountain. Add one stitch. Nine stitches down to the
bottom of the valley. Skip one (MuГ±oz Ryan 14). During the novelEsperanza has to
climb to the top of mountains and go down to the bottom of valleys in order to
complete her journey. The novel begins with Esperanza at the top of a beautiful
mountain, but when her papa dies, her house gets burned down, abuelita getting hurt,
and they have to migrate to California Esperanza is at the lowest point in the valley.
She sees all that is ahead, but in her eyes it is a huge mountain that needs to be
climbed. This will be a long strenuous journey with many more obstacles, but
Esperanza is stronger than she knows. The crochet technique of making mountains
and valleys applies greatly to everything that Esperanza goes through on her migration
to California.

hackers to obtain specific information from their competitors to fill their need for
technological innovation. Moreover, hackers are increasingly discovering ways of
exploiting modern vehicles software. O Rourke (n.d) posits that cases of hackers
taking control of a car remotely and locking the driver until a ransom is paid have
been reported. This threat has created a new level of risk for the auto insurers which
may not be addressed by the current insurance policies. Therefore, resolving these

  • 2. Wild West Show History Wild West shows were the amusement parks of our time. They were full of fun and entertainment. These shows were also responsible for the images of the Wild West we think of today. In the book, True Grit, Mattie hears that Rooster Cogburn is in a Wild West show. She goes to see the Cole Younger and Frank James Wild West show and finds out that Rooster is dead. Wild West shows were what shaped our idea of the Wild West, our ideas of fun, and the name cowboy. Wild West Shows were a form of entertainment composed of scenes from the early, western United States. They included many sorts of back territory feats. Some of them included horseback riding, marksmanship or sharpshooting, and rope twirling ( wild west show ). They traveled all over the United States to perform. They even went to show a performance to the Queen of England ( A Brief History )! People mostly came for entertainment, excitement, and thrill ( Wild West Shows ). Buffalo Bill was the one who created these shows. William F. Buffalo Bill Cody was born on February 26, 1846 in LeClaire, Iowa ( Buffalo Bill Cody ). Included were the likes of Mike Gartner, Rick Vaive, Ray Bourque, Paul Reinhart and Michel Goulet. Taken 13th overall by the New York Rangers, Sulliman played 11 NHL seasons with the Rangers, Hartford, New Jersey and Philadelphia. He then worked as an assistant coach for three seasons in New Jersey and also three with Phoenix. That works out to an impressive 17 years in the show. Sulliman s story begins in the former coal mining town of Glace Bay. In his day, Dad was a real tough player who had a reputation, said Sulliman. I used to watch him play when I was a kid and I thought games only lasted one period because he d always have his gear over his shoulder because he got thrown out for fighting or something. He once told me, If you get into a fight on the ice, let the other guy know he was in one. That bit of advice lasted throughout my entire career. Of course, minor hockey played an enormous role in Sulliman s upbringing. The venue for his games and practice sessions was the once historic Glace Bay Miners Forum, which has since been replaced by the Bayplex Recreation

Catalogs, one type of direct mail merchandising, have been increasing in popularity as consumers look toward convenience in their shopping. Catalog business has even been expanding on the international horizon, Harris Catalog Library has offered 1,250 domestic and international catalogs for patrons to order from. Catalog libraries can be found close to home in U.S. libraries, and as far away as Japanese department stores. • 10. Peculiar Circumstances During the Baroque Era One of the most important eras in the history of classical music, was undoubtedly the Baroque Era. This period lasted from 1650 to 1750, and largely stemmed from the musical innovations of both Italy and Germany. Through this era, the arrangements such as the concerto and the sonata were produced, as well as mastery of the organ and other instruments. Two of perhaps the most influential artists of this era were Arcangelo Corelli and George Fridric Handel. Before discussing the styles and techniques that emerged and were reformed during the Baroque Period of music, first the cultural background must be discussed. The Baroque Period of Music lasted from 1650 to 1750, and really was heavily influenced by two particular countries: Italy and Germany (Sartorius). In Italy, architecture and the layout of the city of Rome had been completely revived because of the Renaissance period, and this new innovation in architecture inspired music (Sartorius). Musicians aspired to experiment with music, and try new innovations to make their compositions sound fresh and original (Sartorius). Meanwhile, up in Germany, composers were desperate to get in the various courts of royalty that existed at that time, due to the fact that Germany was broken up into many states (Sartorius). If composers could become the court musicians for nobility, it could insure great fame, job security, and profits (Sartorius). Thus, the Baroque period of Music was inspired by architectural advancement in Italy, and

Video Games especially role playing games allow players to create their own justice (or lack of justice). Through the player s choices justice either reveals itself in unexpected ways or it simply does not exist, and all is controlled by what the player chooses. The same can be said for The Republic it may not be a videogame in the same sense but it is still a mind game. Socrates and the interlocutors are creating a city with their minds, to find justice on a much smaller scale, being the soul. Plato makes it clear that the city is not real and should be treated as such. The same goes for a videogame, one must take every action and consequence with a grain of... Video Games like Mass Effect offer one aspect of the portrayal of justice in videogames. There is a lot of power in letting the player choose their destiny. If the player doesn t like a decision that they made then it only intensifies the importance of their actions. Socrates also tries to explain this to the interlocutors when he says, Then the city must be made bigger again. This healthy one isn t adequate any more (Plato 373B). The whole city needed to be revamped because the consequence of Glaucon wanting a city with more stuff has changed the city itself. Each action that is made whether in videogames or in The Republic has its consequence. As a result of that the player or the characters have to plan accordingly to the changes they make, and value what is really important to them. Justice can also be portrayed in videogames through it being integrated into the story. The only way this addiction is taught to children is by explaining suicidal thoughts and having those thoughts turn into forms of self injury. Teachers and parents are not able to recognize the effects until it reaches a point where the person can no longer hide their pain. With the numbers of this growing addiction and the urge to begin this addiction rapidly increasing, the factors of self harm need to be discussed as one entity instead of comparing them to another addiction (Wang 666). Different generations and different ethnic groups are involved when it comes to self harm addictions. There is no single self injurer profile. The rates of self harm continue to grow, especially in certain communities (Hall 623). Slaughterhouse s Wastewater Treatment Plant The influent, after screening and decanting is stored to the flow and organic load equalization tank and then inflows at a rate of QF = 80m3 d 1 to the SNdN activated sludge system. The SNdN system actually functions as an autonomous treatment plant where oxidation of organic pollutants, nitrification/denitrification and suspended solids sedimentation are taking place. Furthermore a sludge recycling from the secondary clarifier to the aeration tank is performed so as to ensure the required microbiological load (5000 В± 450 mg L 1). The aeration tank of the SNdN activated sludgesystem operates under low D.O. concentration (between 0,2 to 0,7 mg L 1). According to Mercalf and Eddy (2003), under low D.O. concentration conditions, low nitrification rates result, as the activated sludge floc will be partially aerobic. Denitrification occurs in the anoxic zones within the floc particles due to oxygen depletion. These conditions results nitrogen removal in a single aeration tank, referred as simultaneous nitrification and denitrification (Mercalf and Eddy, 2003). In such systems, although usually both nitrification and denitrification are occurring at low rates, relative high SRT and HRT values achieves significant nitrogen removal (Mercalf and Eddy, 2003). The SRT and HRT values of the SNdN system studied are 29 and 0,75 days respectively. Subsequently the overflowing effluent of the SNdN system is then transferred for further treatment in the PCMAS part of the WWTP. The PCMAS is

BACKGROUND TO THE STUDY Social influence is defined as a change in an individual s thoughts, feelings, attitudes, or behaviors that results from interaction with another individual or a group of people . Social influence is distinct from conformity, power, and authority. French and Raven (1959) provided an early formalization of the concept of social influence in their discussion of the bases of social power. For French and Raven, agents of change included not just individuals and groups, but also norms and roles. They viewed social influence as the outcome of the exertion of social power from one of five bases: reward power, coercive power, legitimate power, expert power, or referent power. Children that are trying smoking are becoming younger and younger. Smoking has nothing good to offer to children but health problems later on in life. Television impacts children the most as far as advertising goes. Many children as young as three years old recognize brand named products and clothing. When these children spend time watching so much television they cannot help but be influenced by it; and want what they see. These children become so obsessed with having what they see on television that they continue to hassle their parents until they get it Some parents may even have trouble keeping up with the amount of money theft child thinks that they need so they may have the newest products out there. • 24. Gender Segregation During The Workplace While women are not the majority in many fields of work in our society, the positions they do hold show the unequal sexual segregation by men. Through gendered practices presented to us at birth and childhood, our society forms the basis as to what field s men and women can work in separately. Through the processes of patriarchy and capitalism, men have become the powerful actors in terms of dominating work. Because of this gendersegregation among occupations, we see a pattern where female dominated occupations are typically paid less, even though they exist in such fewer numbers. As women became financially dependent upon men during the capitalist mode of production, they were expected to do the majority of the housework duties. Today, we are experiencing more women in the workforce than ever before, however, the great majority of women in the workplace have entered female dominated occupations (Mason, 1992:24). Furthermore, while housework has declined slightly for women, they are still estimated to do 1.6 times the amount of housework compared to men today. As discussed throughout the course, the construction of gender starts with an individual based on their sex at the time of birth. Babies are dressed in ways that display their gender and are treated accordingly. Throughout childhood, children learn gender behaviors and feelings through school, parents, friends, family, and the media. According to Lorber (1994), Children learn to walk, talk, and

Since they are both creation stories, there are a few key similarities, but, being that they are from these two different cultures, there will be multiple cultural belief differences. Between the stories Noahand the Flood and the Epic Of GIlgamesh, there are a few important similarities. The first main similarity is the fact that the gods from both stories were mad at their people, and decided to exterminate mankind. In the Epic, Enlil s naps were disturbed by how noisy the people were, whereas God in Noah and the Flood stated that his people were becoming wicked and he said he regretted making man on Earth. When the gods decided to wipe their people out, they both appointed one person to hold the fate of the Earth s people. At this point, the gods realized they had to get all of the animals onto a boat (or ark) to float above the wretched waters that lie below. What more is there to learn, to discover, to create? Yet we are never satisfied, constantly hungry for more answers to our questions. For writers like Leo Tolstoy and Virginia Woolf , understanding the world and its intricacies is essential. However, their approaches to truthdiffer: Tolstoy argues in The Death of Ivan Ilych that there is a clear truth while in her short story Monday or Tuesday, Woolf sees it as more ambiguous. Regardless of whether there is a definite truth, these two works reveal that it can only be reached through experience. It is the journey to find truth that is often more important than the truth itself. Woolf and Tolstoy experiment with perspective and language to illuminate their understanding of truth. Tolstoy, a Realist, aims to enlighten society through his exploration of fundamental questions about life, and his narrator is crucial to this mission. In The Death of Ivan Ilych, Tolstoy s use of third person omniscient narration gives the reader full access to the necessary information that Ivan and the other characters lack. Although Ivan may not understand life s essence until his final moments, the mere fact that there is an all knowing narrator suggests that there is a definite underlying theme to unveil. Moreover, the narrator encapsulates Ivan s superficial world with simple language

Those first conquistadors documented their encounters with native peoples, emphasizing their desire to convert these peoples to Christianity and away from their heathenistic rituals. The documents presented by Stuart B. Schwartz portray accounts from the perspectives of both the conquerors and the conquered. His work does not provide much in the way of personal interpretation but rather displays the documents so the reader can compare better both sides of the New World inhabitants. These documents present an opportunity to consider moments of heroism, greed, and despair born during the clashing of Spanish and Nahua cultures and challenge the way historians view such cultures and the interpretation of primary texts. Schwartz s goal, it would seem, is not to persuade readers of the accuracy of one source over another but rather to call attention to how personal interests, class and ethnic biases, and politics influence the interpretation of the conquering of the Aztec empire. Irene Silverblatt examines the new Spanish lands after Spaniards have established themselves in and amongst the native peoples. She describes the development of a modern world through the views of Spanish imperialism and argues that the Inquisition provides such evidence. Using church records, sermons, and missionary guides, Silverblatt examines how the modern world was build, experienced, and understood by the

Confronting bias is also another theme that comes into play in the process of digital storytelling. Whether that bias is towards peoples of other faiths, colors, orientations, or other qualities, it is important to remember that the connection that was previously mentioned applies to everybody. The connection between all humans should more readily accepted. This can be done by creating conversation to create understanding between peoples. Kwame Appiah (2007) agrees that bias can be solved with conversation saying: It begins with the simple idea that in the human community, as in national communities, we need to develop habits of coexistence: conversation in its older meaning, of living together, association (Appiah, XIX). Development of better relations between humans with conversation and understanding is pivotal in starting to eliminate some of the bias we have. Digital storytelling brings this along in some stories with the authors using their voice to try to create social change and start conversations within our communities. Digital stories have a positive effect when used to gather people together. It allows

His wife and Queen stands beside him with the same royal demeanor. One of her hands winds around and places itself on his waist, and the other rests comfortably on his arm. It shows that the pharaoh was definitely at a point of power, but the Queen certainly helped him. A woman s position in Ancient Egypt was, in many respects, ahead of their time. They were allowed to hold positions of political power, and possessed the same basic human rights as men. However, similar to most societies, women were more respected the upper class. For example, queen Nefertiti, pharaohs Hatshepsut and Cleopatra, and the goddess Isis were some of the most revered women in Egypt. They were revered so not because they were women, but because they held positions of power and ruled over the entirety of Egypt. In contrast, women in the lower classes worked as artisans, weaving, perfume making, and other things. Women in Egypt were expected to work in home, as the responsibilities of a mother came first. However, women were also allowed to own and sell property, serve as witnesses in court cases, and many other things that were otherwise considered scandalous. However, the women s expectations in society were often unfair, as many lower class women were not able to access positions of business or government, reflective of their standing on the Ancient Egyptian social pyramid. The women of Ancient Egypt were nonetheless pioneers of their own rights, and the presence of a female pharaoh is what captured the woman s power in Egypt so

These propositional types represent all of the possible combinations of the dichotomies of affirmative/negative and universal/particular. This means, literally, that the word itself, if we hear it rightly, speaks Greek. (Steiner 22) Steiner later summarizes Heidegger s attempt to find an explanation for Being [Sein] by tracing the etymological roots of the German word. Heidegger, according to Steiner, finds three roots for different forms of the German verb Sein. The German ist comes from the Indo European es, and is translated by Heidegger as life itself and the integral. The German bin and bist derive from the Indo European bheu, which is translated by Heidegger as that which declares itself as a phenomenon. Finally, the German Wesen is derived from the Sanskrit vasami, which is translated roughly as to belong to and in. As it turns out, this examination has important bearings on the theory and evaluation of categorical syllogisms. Various forms of the English verb to be have differing etymologies, as well. The English is has the same etymological root as the German ist, which means that it also (at least for Heidegger) carries the meanings of life itself and the integral. The

Since Esperanza is a female, the story has a complication in the plot that needs to be overcame. This is the first obstacle that Esperanza must triumph over: leaving home to somewhere unknown. In order to crochet like abuelita you must add ten stitches up to the top of the mountain. Add one stitch. Nine stitches down to the bottom of the valley. Skip one (MuГ±oz Ryan 14). During the novelEsperanza has to climb to the top of mountains and go down to the bottom of valleys in order to complete her journey.
