John Keats La Belle Dame Sans Merci
The aim of stylistic analysis is many fold. The main purpose of this paper is to
identify stylistic markers, to study how the stylistic devices used help to achieve the
communicative purpose of Keats s La belle Dame sans Merci , and to identify the
functional style the poem is representative of. This paper aims at analyzing the text
of the poem La Belle Dame Sans Merciby John Keatson four different levels of
stylistics: grammatical, graphological, phonological and morphological level. The
purpose of this study is to explore the literal and hidden meanings and to enhance the
understanding of the poem.
Keywords:Stylistics, style, Graphological level, Grammatical level, Phonological
level, Morphological level.
Introduction:

Keats (1795 1821) is one of the most famous and prominent English Poets of
nineteenth century. He belongs to the second generation of the Romantic poets who
contributed heavily to the humanity. Keats has been hailed as the archetype of the
Romantic poet as he lived and died in true Romantic style. He tried to experience
everything and hesuffered for his art and died so young. He celebrated love, beauty
and freedom in his poems.

The knight meets a beautiful, mysterious woman in the meads. He falls in love
with her, so he makes bracelets and a garland of flowers for her. She seduces him
into riding away with her to a magical place, leaving the reality of this world behind.
She lulls the knight to induce him to sleep and he dreams of dead kings and knights,
her other previous victims, who warn him with terrible words: La Belle Dame Sans
Merci hath thee in thrall , then he wakes up from the dream alone and abandoned.
The poem ends uncertainly with the Knight returning to his world of reality where he
is tormented by the memory of the beautiful lady without
Steroids in Professional Baseball Essay
Perhaps one of the most controversial topics in Major League Baseball is the
discussion of the use of steroids and human growth hormones. Both are completely
illegal in the sport, and come with drastic consequences. One would think a fifty
game suspension as a first offense would scare players away, but for some reason
steroids in baseball is occurring more and more often to the disappointment of Major
League Baseball. The reason players take steroids in the first place is to enhance
their performance on the field. Steroids make players stronger and they perform at a
higher rate. Another use for steroids is to help the players on certain rehab
assignments for injuries. Either way, it is still illegal and banned in the sport. One...

Before steroids Barry Bonds was a lock for the Hall of Fame, now it is believed he
will not even get in because he cheated. Bonds gulped as many as 20 pills at a time
and was so deeply reliant on his regimen that he ordered Anderson to start cycles a
prescribed period of steroid use lasting about three weeks even when he was not
due to begin one (Williams). Some extreme fans are calling for an asterisk next to
his statistics in the record books. Barry still played after the news came out, and
the harassment got so bad, that Barry eventually retired. When he went to
opposing stadiums fans would hold up signs with an asterisk mark, or they would
throw toy syringes at him while he was in the field. Chants of who s you re dealer?
also surfaced at opposing ball parks. The fans took harassment to the next level on
Barry Bonds. Another steroid controversy was when the Mitchell Report was
released. The Mitchell Report was created by George Mitchell, a former US
Senator. The report took over twenty months to complete, and it was commissioned
by not only Mitchell, but Major League Baseball as well. Major League Baseball has
occasional, random, steroid testing and the players that tested positive were named in
the Mitchell Report. The report released the names of

Geoff Rouvray s Golden Jubilee of Ocean Racing. Conditions were perfect. The

away sitting under an umbrella enjoying the view is Sydney to Hobart veteran,
Geoff Rouvray, better known to his peers as Roofrack or Roofie, contemplating, 50
years of blue water classics. I don t know how it came about; I somehow got conned
into playing cricket, Geoff recalls. One day I was standing out in the hot sun when I
thought what the hell am I doing here. Geoff desired a much more refreshing and
challenging competition. It all started after getting involved with the sea scouts at
Bayview. Sailing a 16ft skiff with four mates around Pittwater was great fun. Now,

Latino Heritage Month
This past Wednesday, October 12th, I had the opportunity to visit a photo exhibit
that was being displayed at Plaza de la Raza. The photo exhibit was dedicated to
those actors and actresses that have put the Latino talent in Hollywood. The photo
exhibit is part of the Hispanic Month, and from September 1st to October 15th we
have forty five glorious days to celebrate it. In Los Angeles, the Hispanic Month is
also being addressed as Latino Heritage Month LA. This is a month where the people
from Los Angeles get together to celebrate their traditions and culture with other
Angelenos along with the people around the world who come to LA during this time
as well. My visit to the photo exhibit was a little bit disappointing, not the photo

As stated in Pew Research Center, National Heritage Month started in 1968 by
congress as a Hispanic Heritage week, it was expanded to a month in 1988.
(Krogstad) Twenty eight years later we still have this cultural practice that in a
sense is an interpretation of the original cultures we had back at home. It is not
called Mexican Heritage Month or Salvadorian Heritage Month. It is called
Hispanic because they put all the Latin American traditions, culture, and countries
together and said this is their month, and they must share it. Although it seems
unfair for some people because they do not like being entered in the whole category
as a Hispanic or Latino, we need to look at the positive side. Since this is how we
learn from other people and how we get to know different smells and flavors. We
are being recognized and celebrated by other people as well here in the United States.
Yes, we left back home so many things, but we brought with us one thing more
important than anything; our identity which is the one blending in with other
cultures and creating a new
My First Trip To Las Vegas, Nevada
On February 14, 2015, I went to my first concert. It was also the first time I have
ever visited Las Vegas, Nevada. During this trip, I was 11 years old. Above all the
car drive, the stay, and the concert was a fantastic adventure.
To begin, the drive to Las Vegas was long lasting, but very fun. For example, I had
my sister, cousin, uncle, and my parents, so we listened to music and played games.
This shows that we can have a good time in just a car with one another. This also
shows that we can bond easier because we have the same sense of imagination. In
addition, my sister, cousin, and I were taking videos of each other while everyone
was sleeping. This displays that we can entertain each other when no one else wants
to talk. This also displays that we get along even when we have to sit in a tight
space for a long period of time. In conclusion, the drive was very interesting and
entertaining, although it was very long. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

and had good rooms. This also explains that this hotel had great service and the
workers were always there to help. However, others would say that Mandalay Bay is

Shankman s View Of War
Shankman discusses the view of the war, and the sinking of the Maine, from the
perspective of the Methodist church. Throughout the church there was varying
opinions of the explosion and the war itself. Some people believed that the war
would be necessary, while others believed there was no need for a war. IN an
editorial from a New York Methodist newspaper in April 1898: Should we now go to
war, insisted the Syracuse Northern Christian Advocate, our cause will be just, and
Methodismwill be ready to do its full duty. Every Methodist preacher will be a
recruiting officer (Shankman, 1973). However, in the south, the Southern Christian
Advocate pushed for people to help send aid to the Cubans that are refugees and on
the island; some groups even set up soup kitchens and churches donated some money
as charity. These opinions helped spread the divide after the attack on the Maine:
Generally, the Methodist press advised that rash accusations were unjust and foolish.
The Nashville Christian Advocate suspected that the explosion had been the work of a
misguided Spaniard or resulted from a fire on the Maine, and it thought that all
premature judgments on the cause of the sinking did more harm than good.
(Shankman, 1973)
That view did not last long, by April 14 it was believed that the sinking of the USS
Maine was not a mere accident, The Atlanta Wesleyan Christian Advocate first
believed that Spanish perfidy had caused the catastrophe but later decided some

Being A Teen Mother Made Me
In life you may one day be faced with a situation that does not go as planned.
Discovering I was going to be a teen mother made me put things into prospective.
Moving out of state did not go as I anticipated. In hopes to acquire a place of our
own, my boyfriend searched for a better job position than he had. He had applied in
many places and heard back from many potential employers. My boyfriend had
received an opportunity to get hired for a position that payed well over what he
had anticipated. The only problem was that we lived in California and the positon
he was offered was in Tennessee. His father lived in Tennessee so he agreed to let
us stay with him. When my boyfriend and I found out we were expecting a baby,
we were very alarmed, but bursting with joy. Abortion was not an option so we both
agreed we were going to have the baby. We were eighteen years old and had been
living with his motherand sister. He worked a temporary minimum wagejob for a
temporary employment agency, and I was in school trying to obtain my GED. In
hopes of obtaining a place of our own, my boyfriend searched for a better
employment opportunity. He searched and searched applying to many places
whether it was in person or online. After a week or so after submitting applications
he began to hear back from potential employers. I think he applied to well over thirty
places. He went to several job interviews but most of them were temporary, or
seasonal. None of them offered health insurance and
The Role of the Narrator in Edgar Allan Poe s The Black Cat
The narrator in The Black Cat
Edgar Allan Poe is well known for his captivating tales of the macabre through
eloquence and wit. In many of his short stories, Poe was able to exploit his audience
s fears through allegory and descriptive details of murder and madness. One of Poe s
captivating, yet mad, narrators helms The Black Cat, a tale of paranoia, alcoholism,
and murder. There are several things that make the narrator an intriguing character
including his psychological state, the imp of the perverse, and the effect that
alcoholism has on him. Like in many of his tales, the narrator murders both his
beloved Pluto and his wife, on two separate occasions, yet denies that he has been
stricken by madness and is instead intent on setting the record straight. While the
narrator blames his actions on his alcoholism, it can be argued that his actions
were not only influenced by alcohol, but also by his psyche. For example, he
believes that his beloved Pluto s doppelgänger is out to get him. Not only is the
doppelgänger a constant reminder of how badly the narrator treated his cat, but it
also serves as a constant reminder of how he killed it; the doppelgänger is
missing an eye, just like Pluto, and also has a mark that resembles a noose, which is
how the narrator killed his cat. It is the doppelgänger s physical appearance that
drives the narrator to believe that it is his duty to destroy it before it destroys him.
While the narrator never intended on lashing out
The Key Of A Well Oiled Team
The key to a well oiled team is a mix of diverse personalities. No matter the type of
organization, it is essential each person who belongs to it blends well and does their
part to better themselves as a whole. There are a million types of teams, from
football to dog racing and everything inbetween. My dogteam consists of four
fantastic dogs, each of which have their own spunky personalities. Boss, a man of
wisdom, is the eldest of all the others. Monster, is a vicious licker and will cuddle
people to death. Cinno (Ch EEN Oh) is the wild child, the one who is always
wreaking havoc. Last but not least, D.O.G (Dee Oh Gee), the youngest and most
hardheaded dog on the team. Every team needs someone to lead them and show
them the way, typically it is the oldest or the one with the most experience, which
is why Boss is my leader. He is at the front of my line, teaching the younger dogs
and providing them with a good example to learn by. At home, he is a joyful dog
and loves to be pet, but when Boss is at races, there is no fooling around. He is
there to race and finish the job. Boss is so focused on the race when I am
harnessing him. He does not make eye contact with me, he stares at the sled. I
imagine he is envisioning himself crossing the finish line in first place. When I try
to fire him up by petting him, he simply wraps his leg around mine and holds me
there. Boss s name suits him perfectly. He acts like he is the boss of the team.

Introduction With the events that happened on September 11, 2001, the American
people and all government leadership realized that the U.S. was fight a whole new
other type of war. The U.S. has dealt with foreign terrorist networks abroad and the
1993 World Trade Center bombings. With the tragic event of 9/11, it became
something of a nightmare because no American in history had the knowledge to deal
with this kind of attack. Foreign Terrorist Organizations (FTO) wants nothing more
than to destroy America and the threat of another attack is imminent but, when?
Every year these FTO s will evolve and want to use chemical, biological,

windows of my hotel room. Lightning can seem much more terrifying when you re up

Soon the moonlight illuminated the scenery. As I was standing on the balcony
admiring the scenery something finally went wrong, a huge black cloud covered the
moon. I soon heard the thunder. It seemed to be nothing to worry about, so I didn t

of lightning headed our way. I went inside to inform my parents of the weather, but
they didn t seem to worry about it much until the cloud was almost over the lodge.
My family and I left the reception alone while everyone else stayed in cover; they

We left quickly walking fast and practically running toward the gondolas so we

so was the lightning. The people at the station loaded the four of us into a gondola
and we slowly worked our way down the mountain. Hanging in this tiny box of
metal by a hook on a wire cable was not the most reassuring thing. I looked out the
window hoping to see the ground, but it was too dark. I could barely see the hand
in front my own face. Lightning would flash, and all I could make out were the
tops of trees. Paranoia overwhelmed me. My breaths seemed to become further and
further apart as time slowed. As I was trying to relieve my mind of worst case

Bee Species Research Paper
Bee species in the United States and around the world are being put on the
endangered species list. Bees are a very important part of our food supply and
everyday lives. Bees do more than you think, and there are several reasons to why
they are going extinct. Bees are an essential part of our food supply. Most people
think that bees only make honeyfor us to eat, but that is certainly not all they do.
Bees pollinate flowers which allows fruits and vegetables to grow. Just imagine what
our lives would be life would be like without fruits and vegetables. If the bees didn t
pollinate flowers, than grass wouldn t grow either. This means that we would not
have anything for our meat animals to eat. Without bees, we would not have honey,
fruits,
Adaptations Needed to Address Adolescents’ Circadian
Rhythms
Adaptations Needed to Address Adolescents Circadian Rhythms Sleep is the fuel that
humans need to properly function. The amount of sleep people need is determined
by their circadian rhythm, or biological clock. A teenager s circadian rhythm differs
from that found in an adult or younger child. While going through puberty, teenagers
need more sleep than when they become adults. Researchers from the National Sleep
Foundation have identified several changes in sleep patterns, sleep/wake systems,
and circadian timing associated with puberty. In the last decade, a few high schools
from around the world have changed to a later start time that would better suit the
sleep cycles of their students. Studies by the National Sleep... Show more content on

The researchers found out that almost half of these tenth graders fell asleep
quickly and went into REM (rapid eye movement) sleep, the deepest sleep that
usually occurs in the middle of the night. It is a pattern that is seen in people with
narcolepsy, a sleep disorder characterized by sudden spells of deep sleep (Lawton
3). Mary Carskadon of the National Sleep Foundation says, The implication of that
was these kids did not adjust to the school start time this was fully half the group.
Their brains at 8:30 in the morning, second period if not third period were
essentially still asleep (Lawton 4). Later classes lead to better grades. Students
who said they got poor grades reported getting twenty five minutes less sleep a
night and going to bed an average forty minutes later than kids with good grades
did. Cognitive function and psychomotor skills are closely related to sleep, and
numerous studies have correlated sleep loss with significant decreases in children
and adolescents performance (Wolfson 1). Studies of middle school and high
school students reported that more sleep, earlier bedtimes, later weekday rise
times, and less daytime sleepiness were associated with better grades in school and
greater motivation to do one s best in school (Wolfson 2). Students who got less than
six hours and forty five minutes of sleep had a more depressed mood and more
Comparison Of Frank Herbert s Seed Stock And Andrew...
The societies in both Frank Herbert s Seed Stock and Andrew Niccol s Gattaca are
much different than society in the real world today. In Seed Stock, the sole purpose
of the people that were sent to this alien planet was to survive and make the planet
like Earth. In Gattaca, a person s life revolves around their capabilities and potential
due to genetics. In spite of this, survival is not the only thing that governs their life.
Both Niccol and Herbert presented the idea that although survival and success are the
main priorities, humans also seek to have their psychological and emotional needs
met. Furthermore, the authors of both works make it clear that human emotionis just

Earlier in the story, Herbert makes it clear that Kroudar s emotions allow him to
place all his trust on Honida. When discussing the other women s concerns about the
health of Kroudar s children, the speaker states that, as long as Honida did not worry,
Kroudar remained calm (Herbert 4). Kroudar is able to blindly trust Honida because
of the closeness between them.
The fact that Honida had reached down into the Labor pool and picked Kroudar
went against not only what was considered evolutionary reasonable but also what
was socially acceptable. The speaker makes this clear when he says, [t]here d been
talk among the higher echelons of not allowing Honida to choose [Kroudar] as
mate (Herbert 3). Honida s need for a companion was so strong that she was willing
to violate social norms to be with Kroudar. Furthermore, this lack of companionship
and camaraderie throughout the colony is one of the reasons why it is failing. The
speaker describes how life on Mother Earth used to be, stating that [e]ager hands
helped with the work onshore, spreading the nets, carrying the catch but not here
(Herbert 7). The lack of help and support by others illustrates the coldness that
permeates the colony and highlights one of the many qualities that it needs to prevail.
The importance of human emotion portrayed in Seed Stock is presented very
similarly in the film Gattaca. Vincent and Irene s
Nicaraguan Military Leadership
new military leadership was also demanding more funding in exchange for continuous
support to the US goals and to improve the Honduran army. Simply put, the downfall
of General Alvarez was a lesson to the US about not to count on this particular
General as a useful/reliable permanent ally. As the 1985 elections approached, and
with reelection prohibited, President Suazo was looking for ways to nominate a
friend, Oscar Mejia Arellano, as continuity of his government. Most Hondurans
understood that no much progress was made during his administration since the US
Embassador Negroponte and General Alvarez basically had guided the country. In
1986 Jose Azcona Hoyos became president of Honduras. As funding and aid became
limited, and the US Contra funding methods were severely questioned and
investigated, the presidency of Azcona was one in which peace in the region began to

with high ratings and in Honduras, by the time President Azcona completed his turn

The Influenza Epidemic
Throughout history, plagues have been feared and dreaded. As we have had
scientific advancements and we attempt to control the impact of viruses on humanity
we find that they continue to evolve with us. We are constantly trying to stay ahead
of the next illness. The Center for Disease Control states that, an epidemic refers to
an increase, often sudden, in the number of cases of a disease above what is
normally expected in that population in that area (Lesson 1). An epidemic turns into a
pandemicwhen the epidemic travels into several different countries, usually
impacting a larger number of people (Lesson 1). Epidemics have always been
around, but now with vaccines people tend to not worry about them. As a country we
need to make sure people... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Many now ignore the fact diseases can still affect us, even though currently since
so many people travel it causes us to be more susceptible than ever. Countries trade
now more than ever, causing the chance for diseases to spread faster than ever.
Since an epidemic might be around the next bend, we need to start putting a plan
into place so we can be ready when the next epidemic comes.A big worry of Tyler
Kokjohn and Cooper Kimbal, the next epidemic will again be just like that
common flu that we experience every year. The worry is that the response time
will not be quick enough because people will just suspect that it is the yearly flu. A
part that goes into saving lives is how health organizations respond, in order to
prevent deaths they need to respond both quickly and effectively to information that
they receive about possible small outbreaks of the disease (Kokjohn). Professionals
have concerns regarding slow response times to epidemic outbreaks. Kokjohn says,
Unfortunately, influenza surveillance is an especially weak link in the chain of
public health protection. Exactly where, when, and (most important) how quickly
and reliably the emergence of a new flu virus with pandemic potential is recognized
will determine whether a vaccine can be produced before the virus spreads across the
world. People and products now traverse the planet with ease, meaning that a future
flu pandemic may engulf the world with
Budget Proposal Cuts
In President Trumps 2018 Budget Proposal cuts, the one that concerns me the most
is the Department Of Housing And Urban Development. It concerns me the most
because it would be devastating to the large number of low income families across
the United States of America that rely solely on subsidize housing programs issued
by the government. Various agency programs help pay a percentage of families or
individuals rent. Without funding these cuts will definitely have a negative impact
on the poor, seniors, individuals with disabilities, low income families and the
working class. Once this change begins to take an effect it will not be good for
families or individuals that receive income benefits from SSI, welfare or wages from
low paying jobs.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The populations that the organization serves are on a fixed income that may suffer
from depression, PTSD or victims of domestic violence and are traumatized. This
cut will eliminate and put a strain on the social services that the organization
provides to their clients. One of the services that the organization offers is designed
as a temporary emergency shelter for women and their children who had to flee
from a bad situation. Without shelter programs it would cause women to become a
part of the statistics of homeless or lead them back in the hands of their abuser. Also,
public housing and rental assistance programs will be hit the hardest because these
types of programs help decrease the number of homeless people.
I do not agree with the 2018 budget proposal because all people need somewhere to
live and housing is one of the key elements to living a healthy lifestyle. Families that
are without housing will lead them to slip below the poverty line which increases
their chances of becoming victims of crime and homelessness. His budget cut will
hurt the ones who are really in need of housing.
I have worked in property management for affordable housing and I have witness
several instances where individuals have abused the system by living in affordable
housing who should of not been living in subsidize housing. Those individuals who
abuse the

According to the Holmes Rahe Life Events Scale, which rates levels of stress, many
of the most stressful events in life are related to the workplace. Some examples are
firings, business readjustments and changes in financial status, altered
responsibilities, a switch to a different line of work, trouble with the boss, changes in
work hours or conditions, retirement and vacations. Workplace stresscosts American
employers an estimated $200 billion per year in lower productivity, absenteeism, staff
turnover, workers compensation, medical insurance and other stress related expenses.
However, stress may not always be a bad thing. It can stimulate creativity and... Show

Others fill their days with unproductive busy work, feeling the stress of knowing
they could be more productive. These are caused respectively by two different
reasons. An employee with too much work may be afraid to tell his/her boss
because they are afraid their boss may consider them incompetent. Too little work
may be the result of an employee that doesn t speak up because he/she doesn t want
to become overwhelmed. Either situation could be resolved by better
communication. First, the overworked guy should explain to his boss that he may
need more time to complete his tasks or fewer tasks. Secondly, the person with too
little to do should realize that sooner or later someone is going to notice that they
are not doing their job and explain to his boss that he would like to be more
challenged.
Random interruptions telephones, walk in visits, demands from supervisors. Goal
setting and time management strategies can increase productivity and alleviate the
stressfulness of incomplete projects. Communication isn t just talking to someone, it
is other things such as pushing the do not disturb button on a phone or closing the
door in your office. These are both ways of communicating that you cannot be
disturbed.
Pervasive uncertainty В– Hidden company problems, unsatisfactorily explained and
announced change and/or economic fluctuations all affect stress levels and
productivity. This is an intentional lack of

Advantages And Disadvantages Of Image Denoising
CHAPTER 1
INTRODUCTION
1.1 BACKGROUND
Research related to medical imaging has produced several techniques for diagnosis
purpose like CT, MRI and ultrasound. Each one has its own advantages and
disadvantages. Medical imaging is the procedure of creating visual representations
of the interior body for medical diagnosis. It helps in revealing internal structures
which are hidden inside skin and bones, as well as to treat diseases and for
diagnosis purpose. It identifies abnormality through database of physiology and
normal anatomy .Imaging of organs and tissues are removed that can be performed

The image noise suppression is biggest problem especially in condition where
images are obtained under severe conditions like where the noise level is too high.
The important properties of a good image denoising model are the one in which the
noise is completely removed while preserving edges. One of the common
approaches is to use a Gaussian filter or solving the heat equation with the noisy
image as input data such as a linear, 2nd order PDE model. Image denoising is
important issue which is found in diverse image processing like digital images, SAR

Critique for Logic Argument
In the music philosophy paper I wrote, I was in a bystander position that I was
uninvolved non participant observer. I supported the statements with evidences and
therefore stating facts. The evidences in the essay were deductive. In the essay, I
assumed that praxialism is the most appropriate philosophy for music education in the
present day. Praxialism, in a musical context, is to listen and perform the work in
order to provide a productive activity for life, which means one must understand
theory through listening and participating in the making of music (musicing.) Elliott
believed that there are three dimensions in music: musicer, music, and musicing. The
musicer is the person who makes music;

My Interpretation Of Critical Thinking
My interpretation of Critical Thinking has been challenged by the author of this
passage by the dean of college arts and sciences of Santa Carla University author
and narrator Peter A Facione. I have come to the conclusion that my initial thoughts
of what critical thinking was way off. The author has the reader asking himself
questions, and forming scenarios where we actually had to use critical thinking. I
think this method of understanding is a great way to teach new readers. Right off
the bat Facione has us questioning our initial thoughts. I have a feeling this
technique is going to be one of our tools as we come to understand what exactly

I thought it was interesting how the author explains how the whole court kind of
works in sync with each other. Everyone in the room has to come up with a
conclusion and this can t be done without critical thinking. I am pretty sure if
Critical Thinking hasn t been embedded in our social environment, there would be
a lot of injustice and a lot of unfinished common goals. Critical thinking in my
opinion, and I am sure others would agree its purpose is not just to get to a
conclusion. Critical Thinking can help you understand other people s opinions, and
point of views. So far Facione has my undivided attention, because I think he is
giving information out to help build a stronger mind in his readers. I really like
how the Author is asking us to ask ourselves, where we are in society when it comes
to how good and how much you use critical thinking every day. So the author then
goes back to his point on what the experts think the core of critical thinking is and
they came up with a few terms. The terms are as listed; interpretation, analysis,
evaluation, inference, explanation, and self regulation. All of these core values if you
will all tie together in the grand scheme of things. Interpretation is the action of
explaining the meaning of something. Interpretation has many sub categories, and the
author portrays this by having us ask ourselves questions. Question like: How to

The Mode Of Financing Higher Education
The mode of financing higher education in the public sector is central to higher
education policy making because it reflects how education is provided to society and
at what price. It also indicates the policy stance of the government towards higher
education. (Chattopadhay 2007).Once the government has initiated economic reform
policies and had frozen budgets for higher education, financial reforms were unveiled.
In the post economic reforms period, since 1991 till today, different commission and
committees have been constituted by the governmentor its agencies on higher
education.
The Government of India set up two committees. One committee on UGC funding of
institutions of higher education was set up under the chairmanship of Justice
K.Punnayya (UGC 1993) and the other high power committee for mobilisation of
additional resources for technical education was set up under the chairmanship of
D.Swaminadhan (1994) to outline methods of mobilisation of resources for higher
education. The recommendation of both the commitees set the direction of the
government policy with regard to financing of higher education in the years to come.
Both committees submitted their report almost at the same time in 1993 94. Though
the both stressed the importance of state financing higher education, and almost
argued for a firm commitment on the part of the government to finance higher
education. Also both committee suggested several measures to mobilise non

Core Competencies Of Virgin Atlantic
In July 2017, news headlines hit the airwaves and the internet regarding Sir Richard
Branson giving up control of the 33 years old airline, Virgin Atlantic (Bkaskara,
2017). Apparently, the air carrier industry has experienced increased competitiveness.
Low cost rivals are putting pressure on traditional transatlantic carriers, which has
made Virgin Atlantic, once a trailblazing carrier, to struggle. In 2012, Delta Air Lines
came to the rescue of the carrier in a joint venture, taking up 49 percent of the
company (Stothard, 2017). Even so, in the July 2017 alliance, Branson, according to
Stothard (2017) gave up his control as a part of a wide ranging disturbance of the
airlinecarrier industry that will see Delta Air Lines, Air France KLM, and China
Eastern intensify their alliances. The aim of the airline is to embrace the human spirit
and let it fly (Virgin Atlantic, 2016). Its main focus has been on services such as
safety and security, for its 5.4 million customers flown in 2016 (Virgin Atlantic,

is able to truly understand the author s message and intensions. It is through the

Modern American Feminism Analysis
Critique of Modern American Feminism Marilyn French, a leading feminist and
writer, said, All men are rapists and that s all they are. According to a poll conducted
by Huffington Post, 20% of Americans consider themselves feminists. That may seem
scary at first, but 86% still believe in equality of the sexes. (Swanson) When women
are abandoning feminismby the millions, there has to be something wrong with it.
Feminism s dangerous power grab is based in women overreaching for power,
fighting over problems that aren t there, and trying to subdue the male population;
and it can only be stopped by bringing the problems they have caused to an end. The
first problem with feminism, is that is just isn t equal. The claim and definition of

When it comes to conversation, men aren t allowed to talk gender, it instantly
becomes offensive or weak, so there is no power to the men to defend themselves
correctly . Men can t bring up the fact that there are dangerous spikes in their suicide
rates without being attacked as not supporting women, or something along those lines
(Kingston The Problem ). A defense that feminists have claimed, is that men are
aimed to taking their basic rights away, those such as voting, occupations, and their
status (Kingston Feminism s Wrong Turn). Some leading feminists, such as
Germaine Greer, spread the ideals that women should refuse to marry, and without
comment, leave the husbands and children that they should have no responsibility.
The only responsibility a woman should have, is to herself in becoming
occupationally successful. Men will only try to confuse the women, because all men
think women are inferior (Spry). These such agendas and beliefs, are what is slowly
driving this once cherished title, to something that cannot be left alone if feminism
continues down this path. Not only has feminism taken to disadvantaging the male
population, but also women who are content with a traditional role as a mother, as

The Value Of Year-Round Schooling
Should you give up your summer vacation? Summer vacation should become
obliterated from our society because all of the information that is taught during the
year will be forgotten and put to no use during the summer. Besides, studies have
shown that kids lose knowledge that they just learned from the previous year during
the summer. For example, on paragraph 7, in the article Vacation Just as Important as

can stay with them for the following years. Also, in the article A Lesson in the Value

How Did Gertrude Kill Claudius
There is so much mystery behind the death of Queen Gertrude s first husband King
Hamlet. There is not much information given in details of his death. Evidence leads
to King Claudius being his killer, but what we do not know is whether or not other
people were involved in the murder. Queen Gertrude is a very mysterious character in
the play. There are many small and minor details that suggest Queen Gertrudemight
have been involved in King Hamlets death. There is the fact that she had married
King Claudius so quickly, and how she does not seem to be mournful of her husband
s death, which need to be considered when deciding where Queen Gertrude s

A theory behind this is whether or not she was already having an affair with King
Claudius when King Hamlet was still alive. The ghost of King Hamlet calls King
Claudius that incestuous, that adulterate beast, (I.V.49). This would suggest that
King Claudius was involved in adultery, which would lead to suspicion that Queen
Gertrude was involved with him. Also, based on the timeline of the play, Queen
Gertrude only waited two months after King Hamlet s death to marry Claudius.
Normally someone would wait a lot longer to remarry after their spouse s death.
Because it did not take her very long, and if the suspicions of her cheating on her
husband were even remotely true, it could be very possible that she was involved
in her first husband s murder. If she was cheating on him, one could easily see why
she would want her husband dead so she could be with Claudius and still have the

This increased evidence that smoking is associated with poor wound healing could be
viewed as bias though, as most of the studies have looked at surgical wounds and few
have been concerning chronic wounds (Sorenson, 2003). Nutrition Mani (2003)
claims that nutrition is a fundamental role that must be adopted in the treatment and
healing process of pressure ulcers. A balanced diet with adequate nutrients should be
key for all patients deemed to be at risk of pressure ulcers. Both nutrition and
hydration are the basic components in promoting wound healing and maintaining
normal tissue integrity. Patients at risk of pressure ulcers should be nutritionally
assessed at regular intervals (Shepard. 2003). This could have been adopted by the
use of assessment tools such as, The Nutritional Screening initiative. This tool
includes nutritional screening at regular intervals and a comprehensive assessment
that includes nutritional assessment, functional assessment and evaluation for
depression. This comprehensive approach allows the nurse to quantify the nutritional
problems and initiate the appropriate resources that will meet with the individual

known as an author, poet, and playwright. According to Algernon Swinburne, along
with other English critics, Hugo was the greatest writer whom the world has ever
seen since Shakespeare. In his extraordinary writing, Hugo would use his life
experiences as a child and into adulthood and turn them into magnificent stories.
During his life, Hugo wrote sixteen poems and verses, thirteen novels, ten plays,
two essays, one newspaper, and one political material. After his death, six poems
and one play was published in his name. Andre Gide and all modern French writers

Hugo s experiences with life again are easily seen in this novel. He shows all the
adversity, hardships, and criticism that a person can go through. When reading this
novel, readers can infer that Hugo himself most likely went through similar
situations, and that his outlet for it was to write a story for how he felt. However,
the sadness he was going through from his daughter s death will not be the very
last of it. In 1870, the end of Hugo s exile finally was over. Once the republican
party got back on top, Hugo returned to France. Unfortunately, this happiness in his
life did not last long. Between the years 1871 and 1873, Hugo lost two sons. After
the death of his children, Hugo s health began to decline. In 1879, Hugo has his
first stroke. He is later diagnosed with cerebral congestion. As everything in his life
begins to shift downward, his writings turn towards symbolizing God, Satan, and
death. On his eightieth birthday, the largest parade in French history was held in
1881. Then in 1882, many streets were named in honor of Hugo. Later, on May
11th, 1883, Juliette Drouet died. With the death of his favorite mistress, Hugo

Cofer clearly establishes ethos in paragraph 11 when she talks about being
proficient and even successful with the English language and her ability to cope
with the anger she experiences due to the stereotypes. This is a clear call to ethos
because she is establishes the fact that she has authority as a Hispanic woman who
has to deal with the stereotypes given to her. By establishing ethos, readers are
more likely to observe the problems she is facing. This helps get her point across
the readers and prove that what she is saying is much more legitimate than someone
without ethos. Staples uses ethos by showing his own personal accounts of people
feeling uncomfortable around him just because he is black. He feels the woman in
the beginning thought herself the quarry of a mugger, a rapist, or worse. Also, he
believes he was indistinguishable from the muggers who occasionally seeped into
the area from the surrounding ghetto . Even though Staples had to deal with people
inferring racist insults towards him, he didn t let that affect his life. Instead, he felt
he needed to take precautions to make [himself] less threatening. Staple s use of
ethos persuades the audience that people feel intimidated by a black man just
because he is of different skin

Hamlet Act 4 Scene 4
Throughout the entirety of Hamlet, Shakespeare is able to showcase his prowess
as a writer by creating a truly three dimensional character. Hamlet s series of self
directed philosophical debates, consisting almost entirely of abstractions, reveal his
thought process. Relative to the play as a whole, the final soliloquy of Act 4, Scene
4 holds immense significance as it is a climax of Hamlets subconscious realizations
evolving into a level of self awareness. The passage is also relevant within itself as it
contains acute diction and seamless transitioning from contemplative philosophical
reflection to ardent will for action, maintaining its importance on both a macro and
micro level.
In this penultimate Act of the play, Hamlet has journeyed far from home. Here he
sees Fortinbras of Norway leading a massive army, risking their lives and fortunes,

When Hamlet compares himself to Fortinbras he divulges, While to my shame I see

is both deliberate and insightful. Shame is not equivalent to guilt. While the feeling
of guilt can rely solely on your instinctive moral compass, shame demands
comparison, an acknowledgment of others; it requires self awareness. Hamlet

inaction that bred nothing but vengeful thoughts, never vengeful actions. Such
vengeful actions, however, were taken by the likes of Fortinbras, another son seeking

a positive one. Ovid exhibits that love has power over everybody mortals and gods
alike. Nobody can maintain a strategic distance from its belongings, or oppose the
threat and wretchedness to which love frequently drives us. Indeed, even The God
of Death, Pluto, is moved by love. Love overpowers reason and ethical quality: a
person in love may be urgently attracted to a sibling, a father, or even a bull. The
transformations in Metamorphoses frequently take after from the interests or the
impacts spurred on by love (Metamorphoses I, 240 285). The power of love to
metamorphosize can be as quotidian as pregnancy ladies shapes and parts change
because of being impregnated, a typical aftereffect of a love relationship and as
fabulous as inhuman transformation. Jove goes up against the shape of a bull, in
his assault of Europa, keeping in mind the end goal to satisfy his desire; Apollo
changes into his beloved s sister with a specific end goal to get to her. In addition,
those sought after by love mad gods likewise change themselves with an end goal to
escape undesirable considerations; maybe the most well known of these
transformations is the transformation of Daphne into a shrub tree when Apollo seeks
after her. Love makes changes in lover and loved
Analysis Of Descartes s The Heart, And Then Second By ...
This example, however, only shows the proof of a general concept that illustrates
how systematic reasoning can be used to acquire scientific or medical knowledge.
Descartes goes on to recognize that many problems and questions are not simple
enough to solve just by thinking rationally about observable truths. In these cases,
he recommends reducing problems into smaller, more manageable sub problems
that, individually, can be solved in the manner outlined above (Descartes,
Discourse Part 6, Sections 71 72). He shows this by describing the purpose of
respiration in two ways: first by building off of the recently proven truth about the
movement of the heart, and then second by a series of simple, self evident
observations. Initially, Descartes introduces the idea of respiration as necessary
based on the way the heart moves and blood circulates (Descartes, Discourse Part 5,
Section 53). He says that it is evident that the true function of respiration is to bring
enough fresh air into the lungs to allow the blood that arrives there from the right
cavity of the heart to be condensed and to be converted once again into blood before
returning to the left cavity (Descartes, Discourse Part 5, Section 53). His reasoning
for this claim is based primarily on the previous deduction of the way the heart moves
and the manner in which blood circulates through the heart, along with an additional
observation that blood must aid in feeding the fire that is in the heart (Descartes,
Marginal Utility Vs. Utility Theory
Fifty years after Jeremy Bentham s initial defention of utility, the German economist
Hermann Heinrich Gossen introduced the term marginal utility and the law of
diminishing marginal utility. The term marginal utility is defined as the pleasure or
pain from an additional unit or dose of a good. The introduction of marginal utilityto
economic thought and vocabulary was revolutionary, reducing the need to measure
total pleasure or pain because Even if marginal utilities were measured on a cardinal
scale, they would tell us nothing about how much total utility there was (even if it
was maximized) because they are still only measured up to an additive constant. An
additional benefit of marginal utilitywas the introduction of the principle of marginal
utility theory, which Gossen explained as, Man maximizes his total life pleasure if he
distributes his entire money income ... among the various enjoyments ... so that the
last atom of money spent on each single pleasure yields the same amount of pleasure.
Marginal utility was considered easier to measure than utility as a whole, although
still very difficult to define. At the same time, Gossen was also introducing the law of
diminishing marginal utility, which was one of the most important steps in
developing the economic theory around utility. At the time that Gossen introduced the
law of diminishing marginal returns, there an equivalent law, called Turgot s law,
had already been developed for the producer s side of
Boeing 767 Operation Management Essay
The Boeing 767: From Concept to Production
BSA 523: Operation Management
Professor Henry P. Barnhill
March 6, 2012
The Boeing Commercial Airplane Company was founded in 1916 and was located in
Seattle, Washington. Now headquartered in Chicago, Illinois, Boeing is the world s
largest and perhaps most well known aerospace firm. According to their website
(www.boeing.com), the company operates in three principal segments commercial
airplanes; military aircraft and missiles; and space and communications. The
commercial airplane division consists of the 717, 737, 747, 757, 767 and 777
families of jetliners and the Boeing business jet. Boeing faces stiff competition from
international aerospace companies seeking to increase market share, ... Show more

With regard to the 767, Boeing was able to use parametric cost techniques to
formulate an accurate estimate of total assembly hours required, thereby facilitating
net present value (NPV) analysis of the project. Besides the above mentioned tools
and methods, Boeing also employed a variety of human resources to plan, schedule
and adjust project performance. There were Audit Teams that were composed of
seasoned Boeing managers, audit teams investigated every facet of the product
development process including finance, manufacturing, technology and management.
These teams promoted project development by catching errors early and directly
reporting them to upper management for resolution. The Management Visibility
System schedules were prominently posted for review, and weekly status meetings
were held in which department supervisors notified each other of their needs and
potential problems. Supervisors were required to stand up at meetings and explain
why they were unable to meet production goals. Managers were then entrusted with
clearing all hurdles to achieving those goals. The Production Change Board (PCB)
reviewed all engineering related change requests and assessed their cost and schedule
impact. A feasible implementation approach was then developed for each approved
request .By resorting to a wide variety of technical and human resource planning and
coordination tools and strategies, Boeing was able to tackle the 767 development

Changes In The Russian Population
Throughout history the Russian population has been affected by various events. The
Russian population has been affected by various social and historical events. Many
contributing factors to the changes in the Russian population are due to wars,
collapse of government, and the standard of living for the Russian population. Other
factors include change in inhabitable locations popular culture, and the different
fluctuations in life expectancies of people due to medical issues such as HIV
/AIDS. There is a gap of about 13.5 years between males and females regarding life
expectancy and it is interesting to note that more females live longer than males in
Russia.
One of the events that contributed to the changes to the Russian population was World
Star Patterns
Stars come in a variety of sizes, luminosities, surface temperatures and masses.
Through these different characteristics, it is found that there is a pattern (with some
special cases). This pattern was first recognized by Danish astronomer Ejnar
Hertzsprung and American astronomer Henry Norris Russel during the first decade
of the 20th century. They plotted various stars luminosities on one axis and spectral
types on the other. This showed the pattern. These patterns are shown on graphs and
are referred to as Hertzsprung Russel (H R) diagrams. These types of diagrams are
used today still as they are important tools in astronomical research. To plot a staron
the H R diagram, all that is needed is the star s spectral type and its luminosity. On
the diagram, the horizontal axis shows the surface temperatureof the star, which
directly corresponds with its spectral type. Because Hertzsprung and Russel based
their diagrams on the spectral sequence OABFGKM (color and surface temperature),
temperature decreases from left to right. The vertical axis shows its luminosity, in
units of the Suns luminosity (Lsun). For example, our Sun, falls right on the point
of 1Lsun and G2 because its luminosity is that of 1 Sun and its spectral type is G2.

The works of Ejnar Hertzsprung and Henry Norris Russel have greatly benefited in
this regard. To lay out a star on the H R diagram, all that is required is the star s
spectral type and its luminosity.Typical patterns of the H R diagram show that blue
stars are hotter and larger in size, but their life spans are shorter (The reverse is also
true). Sometimes they do not follow the pattern sequence leading to what we call
supergiants, giants, and white dwarfs. Another way to classify stars is through the
luminosity class. Roman numerals are used to identify the
Marquis De Lafayette Dbq
Marie Joseph Paul Yves Roch Gilbert du Motier de Lafayette, or better known as
Marquis de Lafayette, was born in Chavaniac France on 6 September 1757. He comes
from a famous, well off landowning family in the southern part of France. From him
being orphaned at a young age to Lafayette helping the American Revolution and vice
versa the French revolution, Lafayette became one of the most important people in
Western Europe in the 18th 19th century. Why was he more successful with the
American Revolution than with helping out the French after he helped America
become independent? Well, for starters his ideas were more accepted in America than
they were in France, and in America, he had more control over what was happening
there than in France.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It is mostly due to what he did during both of these periods, and the people he
hanged around while these were happening. In the American Revolution, he was
doing the best for the colonists that he could accomplish, and he was one of the
bravest generals that the revolutionaries had, while during the French revolution, he
was more of stuck in a sinking ship where no matter what he did to help fix it, he
would go down with it. As for the people he hanged out with during the American
Revolution, he hanged out with the best that would not betray him such as George
Washington or Benjamin Franklin, while in the French revolution, he was more or
less on his own trying to protect himself from more dangers while things he could
not control were happening all around him. Also in the American revolution, there
was only one threat to Lafayette and that was the British while in the French
revolution there were so many that Lafayette had to watch what he was doing at the
time or he could be the next person being sentenced and being put on the next
chopping block to be executed during the revolution. He was also loved more in
America than he was in France, because as I mentioned before, he really did not do
much for the Americans to hate him akin to what he did in France during their
revolution akin to firing upon crowds or making them believe that he was helping

Buddhism and the Practice of Zen
Suzuki Roshi was a Zen master who had no special theory or philosophy about the
Buddha Mind or any other subject, which made his ideas very elusive and
paradoxical, although he did not intend to come across as bizarre. In Zen Mind,
Beginner s Mind Zen, which was published before his death in 1971, he insisted that
Zen Buddhismis not a competition, dogmas or a series of theological points that can
be memorized but more a way of being. Thought or emotions cannot express the
Buddha Mind or Buddha Nature, but only meditation and contemplation of the
present moment. In reality, no past, present or future exist at all, but only the
universal oneness of the Buddha Mind and understanding of it cannot be attained
through struggle or setting artificial goals. Zen s reality is thoroughly grounded on
everyday life and routines like baking bread or watching a waterfall, which
symbolizes life. Through practice and meditation eventually students forget about the
self and the ego. Many people wrongly imagine that Zen is another religion, when it
is only a method of achieving Enlightenment. This was Buddha s real teaching, that
in order to overcome karma and the cycle of birth, death and rebirth, it is necessary
to overcome material desires, selfishness and ego and return to the primordial state
of Nirvana. Buddha was incarnated on earth for many lifetimes before he learned
how to overcome suffering and attachment to the body and the material sphere. He
was the first to see the universal
The Four Types Of Organic Molecules
An organic molecule is a molecule that must have Carbon and Hydrogen. They are
important because they act as a backbone for all living matter. Without Carbon and
Hydrogen, life would not exist. A monomer is one subunit or building block of a
larger molecule. The four types of organic molecules are carbohydrates, lipids,
proteins, and nucleic acids.
Carbohydrates have two functions which is, provides short term energy and
structure in some organisms. They have an atomic makeup of Carbon, Hydrogen,
and Oxygen, with a 2:1 ratio of Hydrogen to Oxygen. The monomer is a
monosaccharide which contains a single sugar. A couple examples of this would be
glucose, fructose, and deoxyribose which is found in DNA. Yet, foods with this
monomer in it would be mostly fruits, candy, and soda. Carbohydrates also have a
polysaccharide which is a polymer made of many monosaccharides strung together.
Some examples of these are starch, glycogen, cellulose, and chitin. A starch is
storage from glucose in plants(potatoes, pasta, waffles, and toast). Glycogen is
storage from glucose in animals. Cellous is structure in plants (cell wall). Chitin is
structure in animals (exoskeleton). Proteins have two main functions as well, but
which is, build a cell or body structure and control all cell and body functions.
Examples of cell or body structure is hair, muscle, bone, tendons, and skin. Examples
of proteins controlling cell and body functions are motion, support, metabolism,
transport, defence, and
Significant Changes In Canada In The 21st Century
While ethnic changes are a clear factor of fluctuating demographics, a factor like
gender balance can also be noted. 1961 marked two important events for women in
Halifax; the gender ratio was nearly 1:1 at 91,514 females to 92,432 and 34.8% of
women were part of the workforce. Certain jobs gained and lost popularity based
on necessity after the War. The significant loss of farming jobs will be explored
later. A Statistics Canada graph observes a twofold increase in office workers to
400,000 in 1964. The Canadian National Exhibition Place, which was used strictly
for military purpose in the early to mid 40s, became a place of amusement and
modern architecture for Toronto.
The entire Dominion is currently experiencing a rapid process of social ... Show more

Similar to the industrial revolution of the 1800s, Canada underwent significant
infrastructural changes in the 1950s and 1960s and was impacted by myriad
technological innovations. Canada s first subway was the Toronto Transit
Commission s subway in 1949and the bulk of the TTC today (subway stops,
commuter parking, token adult fare) was implemented within the first 20 years
following the Second World War. Incidentally, the 50s and 60s also birthed Toronto
s major (and dysfunctional) highway, the Gardiner Expressway. Moreover, the
1960s were a time of sky rise building construction as observed in Montreal, where
the city s four tallest buildings were built before 1965. In addition, Montreal s mayor
in the 1960s also undertook major infrastructural development including the Montreal
Metro and a few of the city s major highways. In the same way, in Western Canada,
city modernization is observed in the construction of major transportation structures:
The Ironworkers Memorial Bridge and Port Mann Bridge were built in 1960 and
1964, respectively. Finally, urbanization is evident in the Vancouver area in the
founding of two universities in 1960 (British Columbia Institute of Technology) and
1965 (Simon Fraser
Nathaniel Hawthorne s References to Anne Hutchinson in...
Nathaniel Hawthorne s References to Anne Hutchinson in His Work
Works Cited Missing From the beginning of his writing career, Nathaniel Hawthorne
has made several references to Anne Hutchinson. In fact, he even wrote a sketch
called ?Mrs. Hutchinson ;. Because of Hawthorne?s apparent interest in Mrs.
Hutchinson, it is entirely possible that he would use her as a template for one of the
characters in his many books.
Hawthorne?s character, Hester Prynne, is similar in many ways to AnneHutchinson.
One likeness between the two women is they were both respected members of
society. As Michael J. Colacurcio says, ?both these remarkable and troublesome
women have careers as nurses and counselors to other women ; (213). Anne ... Show

Dimmesdale clearly did not want to persecute Hester, but, out of fear of being
denounced, he proceeds. Likewise, Reverend Cotton, the main prosecutor of Anne
Hutchinson, was forced by his colleagues to persecute her. ?Even her long time friend
Cotton turned on her, accusing her supporters of encouraging Hutchinson in her evil
ways and telling the women present that Hutchinson had led them astray ;(?Anne
Hutchinson ; 5).
The two women were similarly opposed to a society that felt women should remain at
home. During this period of time, the role of women was thought to be in the home.
Anne Hutchinson went against this belief when she started sharing her controversial
religious beliefs with neighborhood women in need of her medical expertise. This
quickly changed into biweekly devotional meetings. A woman holding controversial
religious meetings in her home quickly drew the attention of sever powerful people.
In the essay Anne Hutchinson it is stated that, ?Wilson and Winthrop persuaded
Cotton to eavesdrop on Hutchinson?s meetings to see if there were any unacceptable
messages ;(4). Wilson, the most respected pastor in Boston, and Winthrop, the
Governor of Massachusetts, decided Anne Hutchinson?s teachings must stop when
her brother in law was accused of sedition. ?According to John Winthrop, Anne

  • 3. Steroids in Professional Baseball Essay Perhaps one of the most controversial topics in Major League Baseball is the discussion of the use of steroids and human growth hormones. Both are completely illegal in the sport, and come with drastic consequences. One would think a fifty game suspension as a first offense would scare players away, but for some reason steroids in baseball is occurring more and more often to the disappointment of Major League Baseball. The reason players take steroids in the first place is to enhance their performance on the field. Steroids make players stronger and they perform at a higher rate. Another use for steroids is to help the players on certain rehab assignments for injuries. Either way, it is still illegal and banned in the sport. One... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Before steroids Barry Bonds was a lock for the Hall of Fame, now it is believed he will not even get in because he cheated. Bonds gulped as many as 20 pills at a time and was so deeply reliant on his regimen that he ordered Anderson to start cycles a prescribed period of steroid use lasting about three weeks even when he was not due to begin one (Williams). Some extreme fans are calling for an asterisk next to his statistics in the record books. Barry still played after the news came out, and the harassment got so bad, that Barry eventually retired. When he went to opposing stadiums fans would hold up signs with an asterisk mark, or they would throw toy syringes at him while he was in the field. Chants of who s you re dealer? also surfaced at opposing ball parks. The fans took harassment to the next level on Barry Bonds. Another steroid controversy was when the Mitchell Report was released. The Mitchell Report was created by George Mitchell, a former US Senator. The report took over twenty months to complete, and it was commissioned by not only Mitchell, but Major League Baseball as well. Major League Baseball has occasional, random, steroid testing and the players that tested positive were named in the Mitchell Report. The report released the names of

The photo exhibit was dedicated to those actors and actresses that have put the Latino talent in Hollywood. The photo exhibit is part of the Hispanic Month, and from September 1st to October 15th we have forty five glorious days to celebrate it. In Los Angeles, the Hispanic Month is also being addressed as Latino Heritage Month LA. As stated in Pew Research Center, National Heritage Month started in 1968 by congress as a Hispanic Heritage week, it was expanded to a month in 1988. (Krogstad) Twenty eight years later we still have this cultural practice that in a sense is an interpretation of the original cultures we had back at home. It is not called Mexican Heritage Month or Salvadorian Heritage Month. It is called Hispanic because they put all the Latin American traditions, culture, and countries together and said this is their month, and they must share it. Although it seems unfair for some people because they do not like being entered in the whole category as a Hispanic or Latino, we need to look at the positive side. Since this is how we learn from other people and how we get to know different smells and flavors. We are being recognized and celebrated by other people as well here in the United States. Yes, we left back home so many things, but we brought with us one thing more important than anything; our identity which is the one blending in with other cultures and creating a new

Above all the car drive, the stay, and the concert was a fantastic adventure. To begin, the drive to Las Vegas was long lasting, but very fun. For example, I had my sister, cousin, uncle, and my parents, so we listened to music and played games. This shows that we can have a good time in just a car with one another. This also shows that we can bond easier because we have the same sense of imagination. In addition, my sister, cousin, and I were taking videos of each other while everyone was sleeping. This displays that we can entertain each other when no one else wants to talk. This also displays that we get along even when we have to sit in a tight space for a long period of time. • 8. Shankman s View Of War Shankman discusses the view of the war, and the sinking of the Maine, from the perspective of the Methodist church. Throughout the church there was varying opinions of the explosion and the war itself. Some people believed that the war would be necessary, while others believed there was no need for a war. IN an editorial from a New York Methodist newspaper in April 1898: Should we now go to war, insisted the Syracuse Northern Christian Advocate, our cause will be just, and Methodismwill be ready to do its full duty. Every Methodist preacher will be a recruiting officer (Shankman, 1973). However, in the south, the Southern Christian Advocate pushed for people to help send aid to the Cubans that are refugees and on the island; some groups even set up soup kitchens and churches donated some money as charity. These opinions helped spread the divide after the attack on the Maine: Generally, the Methodist press advised that rash accusations were unjust and foolish. The Nashville Christian Advocate suspected that the explosion had been the work of a misguided Spaniard or resulted from a fire on the Maine, and it thought that all premature judgments on the cause of the sinking did more harm than good. (Shankman, 1973) That view did not last long, by April 14 it was believed that the sinking of the USS Maine was not a mere accident, The Atlanta Wesleyan Christian Advocate first believed that Spanish perfidy had caused the catastrophe but later decided some hotheads

Moving out of state did not go as I anticipated. In hopes to acquire a place of our own, my boyfriend searched for a better job position than he had. He had applied in many places and heard back from many potential employers. My boyfriend had received an opportunity to get hired for a position that payed well over what he had anticipated. The only problem was that we lived in California and the positon he was offered was in Tennessee. His father lived in Tennessee so he agreed to let us stay with him. When my boyfriend and I found out we were expecting a baby, we were very alarmed, but bursting with joy. Abortion was not an option so we both agreed we were going to have the baby. We were eighteen years old and had been living with his motherand sister. He worked a temporary minimum wagejob for a temporary employment agency, and I was in school trying to obtain my GED. In hopes of obtaining a place of our own, my boyfriend searched for a better employment opportunity. He searched and searched applying to many places whether it was in person or online. After a week or so after submitting applications he began to hear back from potential employers. I think he applied to well over thirty places. He went to several job interviews but most of them were temporary, or seasonal. None of them offered health insurance and
  • 10. The Role of the Narrator in Edgar Allan Poe s The Black Cat The narrator in The Black Cat Edgar Allan Poe is well known for his captivating tales of the macabre through eloquence and wit. In many of his short stories, Poe was able to exploit his audience s fears through allegory and descriptive details of murder and madness. One of Poe s captivating, yet mad, narrators helms The Black Cat, a tale of paranoia, alcoholism, and murder. There are several things that make the narrator an intriguing character including his psychological state, the imp of the perverse, and the effect that alcoholism has on him. Like in many of his tales, the narrator murders both his beloved Pluto and his wife, on two separate occasions, yet denies that he has been stricken by madness and is instead intent on setting the record straight. While the narrator blames his actions on his alcoholism, it can be argued that his actions were not only influenced by alcohol, but also by his psyche. For example, he believes that his beloved Pluto s doppelgГ¤nger is out to get him. Not only is the doppelgГ¤nger a constant reminder of how badly the narrator treated his cat, but it also serves as a constant reminder of how he killed it; the doppelgГ¤nger is missing an eye, just like Pluto, and also has a mark that resembles a noose, which is how the narrator killed his cat. It is the doppelgГ¤nger s physical appearance that drives the narrator to believe that it is his duty to destroy it before it destroys him. While the narrator never intended on lashing out

Last but not least, D.O.G (Dee Oh Gee), the youngest and most hardheaded dog on the team. Every team needs someone to lead them and show them the way, typically it is the oldest or the one with the most experience, which is why Boss is my leader. He is at the front of my line, teaching the younger dogs and providing them with a good example to learn by. At home, he is a joyful dog and loves to be pet, but when Boss is at races, there is no fooling around. He is there to race and finish the job. Boss is so focused on the race when I am harnessing him. He does not make eye contact with me, he stares at the sled. I imagine he is envisioning himself crossing the finish line in first place. When I try to fire him up by petting him, he simply wraps his leg around mine and holds me there. Boss s name suits him perfectly. He acts like he is the boss of the team. Each flash of lightning lit the entire room and each clap of thunder rattled the windows of my hotel room. Lightning can seem much more terrifying when you re up 20,000 ft in the mountains, and the thunder sounds a lot louder too. As I was standing on the balcony admiring the scenery something finally went wrong, a huge black cloud covered the moon. I soon heard the thunder. I went inside to inform my parents of the weather, but they didn t seem to worry about it much until the cloud was almost over the lodge. My family and I left the reception alone while everyone else stayed in cover; they were the smart ones I thought. We left quickly walking fast and practically running toward the gondolas so we wouldn t be stuck on the mountain all night long. By now the storm was close and so was the lightning. The people at the station loaded the four of us into a gondola and we slowly worked our way down the mountain. Hanging in this tiny box of metal by a hook on a wire cable was not the most reassuring thing. I looked out the window hoping to see the ground, but it was too dark. I could barely see the hand in front my own face. Lightning would flash, and all I could make out were the tops of trees. Paranoia overwhelmed me. My breaths seemed to become further and further apart as time slowed. As I was trying to relieve my mind of worst case scenario, a big flash and enormous rumble sounded. We stopped moving. Our gondola had

The amount of sleep people need is determined by their circadian rhythm, or biological clock. A teenager s circadian rhythm differs from that found in an adult or younger child. While going through puberty, teenagers need more sleep than when they become adults. Researchers from the National Sleep Foundation have identified several changes in sleep patterns, sleep/wake systems, and circadian timing associated with puberty. In the last decade, a few high schools from around the world have changed to a later start time that would better suit the sleep cycles of their students. Studies by the National Sleep... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The researchers found out that almost half of these tenth graders fell asleep quickly and went into REM (rapid eye movement) sleep, the deepest sleep that usually occurs in the middle of the night. It is a pattern that is seen in people with narcolepsy, a sleep disorder characterized by sudden spells of deep sleep (Lawton 3). Mary Carskadon of the National Sleep Foundation says, The implication of that was these kids did not adjust to the school start time this was fully half the group. Their brains at 8:30 in the morning, second period if not third period were essentially still asleep (Lawton 4). Later classes lead to better grades. Students who said they got poor grades reported getting twenty five minutes less sleep a night and going to bed an average forty minutes later than kids with good grades did. Cognitive function and psychomotor skills are closely related to sleep, and numerous studies have correlated sleep loss with significant decreases in children and adolescents performance (Wolfson 1). Studies of middle school and high school students reported that more sleep, earlier bedtimes, later weekday rise times, and less daytime sleepiness were associated with better grades in school and greater motivation to do one s best in school (Wolfson 2). In Seed Stock, the sole purpose of the people that were sent to this alien planet was to survive and make the planet like Earth. In Gattaca, a person s life revolves around their capabilities and potential due to genetics. In spite of this, survival is not the only thing that governs their life. Earlier in the story, Herbert makes it clear that Kroudar s emotions allow him to place all his trust on Honida. When discussing the other women s concerns about the health of Kroudar s children, the speaker states that, as long as Honida did not worry, Kroudar remained calm (Herbert 4). Kroudar is able to blindly trust Honida because of the closeness between them. The fact that Honida had reached down into the Labor pool and picked Kroudar went against not only what was considered evolutionary reasonable but also what was socially acceptable. The speaker makes this clear when he says, [t]here d been talk among the higher echelons of not allowing Honida to choose [Kroudar] as mate (Herbert 3). Honida s need for a companion was so strong that she was willing to violate social norms to be with Kroudar. Furthermore, this lack of companionship and camaraderie throughout the colony is one of the reasons why it is failing. The speaker describes how life on Mother Earth used to be, stating that [e]ager hands helped with the work onshore, spreading the nets, carrying the catch but not here (Herbert 7). The lack of help and support by others illustrates the coldness that permeates the colony and highlights one of the many qualities that it needs to prevail. The importance of human emotion portrayed in Seed Stock is presented very similarly in the film Gattaca. Vincent and Irene s

It concerns me the most because it would be devastating to the large number of low income families across the United States of America that rely solely on subsidize housing programs issued by the government. Various agency programs help pay a percentage of families or individuals rent. Without funding these cuts will definitely have a negative impact on the poor, seniors, individuals with disabilities, low income families and the working class. Without shelter programs it would cause women to become a part of the statistics of homeless or lead them back in the hands of their abuser. Also, public housing and rental assistance programs will be hit the hardest because these types of programs help decrease the number of homeless people. I do not agree with the 2018 budget proposal because all people need somewhere to live and housing is one of the key elements to living a healthy lifestyle. Families that are without housing will lead them to slip below the poverty line which increases their chances of becoming victims of crime and homelessness. The data collected reveals that most of the consumer prefers to purchase from organized retail out of which most of them where from male category. High class income valued consumer prefer to choose the organized retail for their purchase while the middle class still chose to opt unorganized retail having the income group between 10K to 25K per month. The hypothesis testing was the prime objective for the research that whether association exist between Income and frequency of Store Visit to the retail store to that we have revealed that there is association exists between the income and the frequency of visit to the organized as well as unorganized retail store. According to Algernon Swinburne, along with other English critics, Hugo was the greatest writer whom the world has ever seen since Shakespeare. In his extraordinary writing, Hugo would use his life experiences as a child and into adulthood and turn them into magnificent stories. During his life, Hugo wrote sixteen poems and verses, thirteen novels, ten plays, two essays, one newspaper, and one political material. He shows all the adversity, hardships, and criticism that a person can go through. When reading this novel, readers can infer that Hugo himself most likely went through similar situations, and that his outlet for it was to write a story for how he felt. However, the sadness he was going through from his daughter s death will not be the very last of it. In 1870, the end of Hugo s exile finally was over. Once the republican party got back on top, Hugo returned to France. Unfortunately, this happiness in his life did not last long. Between the years 1871 and 1873, Hugo lost two sons. After the death of his children, Hugo s health began to decline. In 1879, Hugo has his first stroke. He is later diagnosed with cerebral congestion. As everything in his life begins to shift downward, his writings turn towards symbolizing God, Satan, and death. On his eightieth birthday, the largest parade in French history was held in 1881. Then in 1882, many streets were named in honor of Hugo. Later, on May 11th, 1883, Juliette Drouet died. With the death of his favorite mistress, Hugo really did not have anything left to live for. Two years later, on May 20th, 1885, in Paris, France, Hugo died at the age of 83. He received a hero s funeral. His death was mourned by everyone. He was then buried in the

Cofer clearly establishes ethos in paragraph 11 when she talks about being proficient and even successful with the English language and her ability to cope with the anger she experiences due to the stereotypes. This is a clear call to ethos because she is establishes the fact that she has authority as a Hispanic woman who has to deal with the stereotypes given to her. By establishing ethos, readers are more likely to observe the problems she is facing. This helps get her point across the readers and prove that what she is saying is much more legitimate than someone without ethos. Staples uses ethos by showing his own personal accounts of people feeling uncomfortable around him just because he is black. He feels the woman in the beginning thought herself the quarry of a mugger, a rapist, or worse. Also, he believes he was indistinguishable from the muggers who occasionally seeped into the area from the surrounding ghetto . Even though Staples had to deal with people inferring racist insults towards him, he didn t let that affect his life. Instead, he felt he needed to take precautions to make [himself] less threatening. Staple s use of ethos persuades the audience that people feel intimidated by a black man just because he is of different skin

Hamlet s series of self directed philosophical debates, consisting almost entirely of abstractions, reveal his thought process. Relative to the play as a whole, the final soliloquy of Act 4, Scene 4 holds immense significance as it is a climax of Hamlets subconscious realizations evolving into a level of self awareness. The passage is also relevant within itself as it contains acute diction and seamless transitioning from contemplative philosophical reflection to ardent will for action, maintaining its importance on both a macro and micro level. In this penultimate Act of the play, Hamlet has journeyed far from home. Shame is not equivalent to guilt. While the feeling of guilt can rely solely on your instinctive moral compass, shame demands comparison, an acknowledgment of others; it requires self awareness. For Ovid, love was all the more regularly saw as an unsafe, destabilizing power than a positive one. Ovid exhibits that love has power over everybody mortals and gods alike. Nobody can maintain a strategic distance from its belongings, or oppose the threat and wretchedness to which love frequently drives us. Indeed, even The God of Death, Pluto, is moved by love. Love overpowers reason and ethical quality: a person in love may be urgently attracted to a sibling, a father, or even a bull. The transformations in Metamorphoses frequently take after from the interests or the impacts spurred on by love (Metamorphoses I, 240 285). The power of love to metamorphosize can be as quotidian as pregnancy ladies shapes and parts change because of being impregnated, a typical aftereffect of a love relationship and as fabulous as inhuman transformation. Jove goes up against the shape of a bull, in his assault of Europa, keeping in mind the end goal to satisfy his desire; Apollo changes into his beloved s sister with a specific end goal to get to her. In addition, those sought after by love mad gods likewise change themselves with an end goal to escape undesirable considerations; maybe the most well known of these transformations is the transformation of Daphne into a shrub tree when Apollo seeks after her. • 41. Analysis Of Descartes s The Heart, And Then Second By ... This example, however, only shows the proof of a general concept that illustrates how systematic reasoning can be used to acquire scientific or medical knowledge. Descartes goes on to recognize that many problems and questions are not simple enough to solve just by thinking rationally about observable truths. In these cases, he recommends reducing problems into smaller, more manageable sub problems that, individually, can be solved in the manner outlined above (Descartes, Discourse Part 6, Sections 71 72). He shows this by describing the purpose of respiration in two ways: first by building off of the recently proven truth about the movement of the heart, and then second by a series of simple, self evident observations. Initially, Descartes introduces the idea of respiration as necessary based on the way the heart moves and blood circulates (Descartes, Discourse Part 5, Section 53). He says that it is evident that the true function of respiration is to bring enough fresh air into the lungs to allow the blood that arrives there from the right cavity of the heart to be condensed and to be converted once again into blood before returning to the left cavity (Descartes, Discourse Part 5, Section 53). His reasoning for this claim is based primarily on the previous deduction of the way the heart moves and the manner in which blood circulates through the heart, along with an additional observation that blood must aid in feeding the fire that is in the heart (Descartes,
  • 42. Marginal Utility Vs. Utility Theory Fifty years after Jeremy Bentham s initial defention of utility, the German economist Hermann Heinrich Gossen introduced the term marginal utility and the law of diminishing marginal utility. The term marginal utility is defined as the pleasure or pain from an additional unit or dose of a good. The introduction of marginal utilityto economic thought and vocabulary was revolutionary, reducing the need to measure total pleasure or pain because Even if marginal utilities were measured on a cardinal scale, they would tell us nothing about how much total utility there was (even if it was maximized) because they are still only measured up to an additive constant. An additional benefit of marginal utilitywas the introduction of the principle of marginal utility theory, which Gossen explained as, Man maximizes his total life pleasure if he distributes his entire money income ... among the various enjoyments ... so that the last atom of money spent on each single pleasure yields the same amount of pleasure. Marginal utility was considered easier to measure than utility as a whole, although still very difficult to define. At the same time, Gossen was also introducing the law of diminishing marginal utility, which was one of the most important steps in developing the economic theory around utility. At the time that Gossen introduced the law of diminishing marginal returns, there an equivalent law, called Turgot s law, had already been developed for the producer s side of

There were Audit Teams that were composed of seasoned Boeing managers, audit teams investigated every facet of the product development process including finance, manufacturing, technology and management. These teams promoted project development by catching errors early and directly reporting them to upper management for resolution. The Management Visibility System schedules were prominently posted for review, and weekly status meetings were held in which department supervisors notified each other of their needs and potential problems. Supervisors were required to stand up at meetings and explain why they were unable to meet production goals. Managers were then entrusted with clearing all hurdles to achieving those goals. The Production Change Board (PCB) reviewed all engineering related change requests and assessed their cost and schedule impact. A feasible implementation approach was then developed for each approved request .By resorting to a wide variety of technical and human resource planning and coordination tools and strategies, Boeing was able to tackle the 767 development project

Through these different characteristics, it is found that there is a pattern (with some special cases). This pattern was first recognized by Danish astronomer Ejnar Hertzsprung and American astronomer Henry Norris Russel during the first decade of the 20th century. They plotted various stars luminosities on one axis and spectral types on the other. This showed the pattern. These patterns are shown on graphs and are referred to as Hertzsprung Russel (H R) diagrams. These types of diagrams are used today still as they are important tools in astronomical research. To plot a staron the H R diagram, all that is needed is the star s spectral type and its luminosity. On the diagram, the horizontal axis shows the surface temperatureof the star, which directly corresponds with its spectral type. Because Hertzsprung and Russel based their diagrams on the spectral sequence OABFGKM (color and surface temperature), temperature decreases from left to right. The vertical axis shows its luminosity, in units of the Suns luminosity (Lsun). For example, our Sun, falls right on the point of 1Lsun and G2 because its luminosity is that of 1 Sun and its spectral type is G2. Typical patterns of the H R diagram show... From him being orphaned at a young age to Lafayette helping the American Revolution and vice versa the French revolution, Lafayette became one of the most important people in Western Europe in the 18th 19th century. Why was he more successful with the American Revolution than with helping out the French after he helped America become independent? As for the people he hanged out with during the American Revolution, he hanged out with the best that would not betray him such as George Washington or Benjamin Franklin, while in the French revolution, he was more or less on his own trying to protect himself from more dangers while things he could not control were happening all around him. Also in the American revolution, there was only one threat to Lafayette and that was the British while in the French revolution there were so many that Lafayette had to watch what he was doing at the time or he could be the next person being sentenced and being put on the next chopping block to be executed during the revolution. He was also loved more in America than he was in France, because as I mentioned before, he really did not do much for the Americans to hate him akin to what he did in France during their revolution akin to firing upon crowds or making them believe that he was helping their

Buddhism and the Practice of Zen Suzuki Roshi was a Zen master who had no special theory or philosophy about the Buddha Mind or any other subject, which made his ideas very elusive and paradoxical, although he did not intend to come across as bizarre. In Zen Mind, Beginner s Mind Zen, which was published before his death in 1971, he insisted that Zen Buddhismis not a competition, dogmas or a series of theological points that can be memorized but more a way of being. Thought or emotions cannot express the Buddha Mind or Buddha Nature, but only meditation and contemplation of the present moment. In reality, no past, present or future exist at all, but only the universal oneness of the Buddha Mind and understanding of it cannot be attained through struggle or setting artificial goals. Zen s reality is thoroughly grounded on everyday life and routines like baking bread or watching a waterfall, which symbolizes life. Through practice and meditation eventually students forget about the self and the ego. Many people wrongly imagine that Zen is another religion, when it is only a method of achieving Enlightenment. This was Buddha s real teaching, that in order to overcome karma and the cycle of birth, death and rebirth, it is necessary to overcome material desires, selfishness and ego and return to the primordial state of Nirvana. Buddha was incarnated on earth for many lifetimes before he learned how to overcome suffering and attachment to the body and the material sphere. He was the first to see the universal
  • 48. The Four Types Of Organic Molecules An organic molecule is a molecule that must have Carbon and Hydrogen. They are important because they act as a backbone for all living matter. Without Carbon and Hydrogen, life would not exist. A monomer is one subunit or building block of a larger molecule. The four types of organic molecules are carbohydrates, lipids, proteins, and nucleic acids. Carbohydrates have two functions which is, provides short term energy and structure in some organisms. They have an atomic makeup of Carbon, Hydrogen, and Oxygen, with a 2:1 ratio of Hydrogen to Oxygen. The monomer is a monosaccharide which contains a single sugar. A couple examples of this would be glucose, fructose, and deoxyribose which is found in DNA. Yet, foods with this monomer in it would be mostly fruits, candy, and soda. Carbohydrates also have a polysaccharide which is a polymer made of many monosaccharides strung together. Some examples of these are starch, glycogen, cellulose, and chitin. A starch is storage from glucose in plants(potatoes, pasta, waffles, and toast). Glycogen is storage from glucose in animals. Cellous is structure in plants (cell wall). Chitin is structure in animals (exoskeleton). Proteins have two main functions as well, but which is, build a cell or body structure and control all cell and body functions. Examples of cell or body structure is hair, muscle, bone, tendons, and skin. Examples of proteins controlling cell and body functions are motion, support, metabolism, transport, defence, and
