1. Film Evaluation Sheet
1.Can you give two examples from the film as to why people stereotype?
A way to describe someone’s physical characteristics.
People like to label others because it makes them feel better and they
only judge what is on the outside. Racism, blonde women are dumb,
Clothing (Girls with short skirts, Goths with shaved hair, boys with baggy
jeans etc).
2. How does stereotyping damage people? Give one example from the
debate that we had.
Damages them mentally, it can lead to bullying. One example, was the
London riots, young people were blamed for looting etc. Actually only one
quarter were under 18.
3. What ways did you pick out as to how people stereotype one another?
Clothing categories people into a certain group. If we are out with friends
and making loads of noise, adults will stereotype us as trouble makers.
4. How does society encourage stereotyping?
Social mobility: If you are middle class or rich you are considered posh,
you will probably be treated better than other people. The news also
encourages society to stereotype other people. For example, immigrants
taking British jobs.
5. Can we ever stop stereotyping?
I don’t believe we can ever stop stereotyping because everyone has
different views and opinion if we can stop freedom of speech then yes we
can.
6. How can we improve people’s attitudes towards one another? Again I
don’t believe we can due to people may not like other people we can’t help
that but if we can teach maturity to others then they will realise they
can ignore the other peoples petty mistakes.
2. Self and peerevaluation
Look at the evaluation criteria and decide the following:
1. How would you mark the arguments that you made?
Ok Good Very good Excellent
2. Pick a person from the class that you thought did really well in the
debate and put their name here: Samantha
How would you mark the arguments that they made?
Ok Good Very good Excellent
3. How could improve your debating skills? Pick out three things that the
other person did well that you can do next time.
a)more idea’s
b) speak more
c)speak up
