Countless Plastic Variants
Plastic is a highly versatile material that can be molded to
any shape and size, and to any hardness and toughness.
This makes plastic the perfect material for many uses,
mainly manufacture of plastic bottles and plastic packaging
containers. Although there are countless plastic variants,
only a selected few plastics are used by any plastic bottle
company to create plastic containers. They are:
Polyethylene Terephthalate (PET)
This plastic is used worldwide by plastic bottle suppliers as
they can be used for packaging a lot of different food and
beverage products. It is durable and transparent, making it
perfect for making jars, plastic containers, and beverage
bottles. As PET bottles don’t melt easily, they are also used
to make microwavable food containers and microwaveable
plastics. They can be recycled into other forms of plastic,
making them quite environment friendly.
Polyvinyl Chloride (PVC)
PVC is a hard plastic variant that has interchangeable
properties concerning hardness. PVC in its hard form is a
typical presence in plumbing and electrical insulation
popes, but in its relatively soft form, PVC is used for
packaging heavy food bags, medical tubes, blood bags and
packaging films that are wrapped around existing packages
for added protection. These films are brittle but strong
enough to resist balanced impacts.
Polystyrene (PS)
Polystyrene is commonly known as Styrofoam, which is a
popular brand name for the plastic variant. Unlike other
plastic variants mentioned here, polystyrene is very soft
and can be easily broken off with application of mild to
medium force. However, their softness provides a big
benefit: protection from sudden jerks and cushioning from
rough forces. Polystyrene is generally used to make
disposable food containers, disposable cutlery and
packaging molds for electronics and appliances inside the
box.
High Density Polyethylene (HDPE)
High density polyethylene is very hard and has high impact
resistance capability along with temperature resistance,
while being extremely lightweight. They can be both
translucent and opaque, depending on their manufacturing
process. They are also chemical resistant against common
chemicals, making them perfect to package non-food
chemical items such as detergents, surfactants, bleach,
floor cleaners, engine oils and many more. In terms of food
packaging, they are commonly used as milk jugs and fruit
juice containers.
Polypropylene (PP)
Polypropylene has extremely high resistance against heat,
making it perfect to store different variety of contents.
Polypropylene containers are used to store medicines,
automotive fluids and food products. Due to high heat
endurance, it can also be used to store hot foods that may
usually melt most other plastic variants. They are
recyclable and find different applications as recycled PP.
