Samuel Beckett and Harold Pinter Absurd Influences in Theatre There are a wide variety of
theatrical movements that have occurred over time. One of these includes the theatre of the absurd.
Theater of the absurd refers to the literary movement in drama popular throughout European
countries from the 1940s to approximately 1989. A definition of the term absurdism is referred to a
literary and philosophical movement that flourished after the Second World War and bears a close
relationship to Existentialism. Absurdism s signature attitude is therefore black humor, an
ambiguous mixture of tragic pathos and preposterous comedy, which finds it compelling literary
expression in the work of authors such as Samuel Beckett ( Absurdism 3). In this paper, I will
explore the development of absurdism in two different plays, The Room and Waiting for Godot.
The absurdist type of plays often seek to explore the spiritual loneliness, isolation, and anxiety of
the down and outs of society. Theater of the Absurd are often pointless and contain no
underlying messages. They have been described as moving in a circle with no true plot. The
movement of the absurd commonly refers to the work of a group of dramatists who first emerged

and more on understanding of the concepts, the second was to strive for intellectual humility by
accepting what I do not know and being open to the concepts I do not know, my last goal was to
learn from my reactions towards subject material the may have bothered me by journaling or

being asked of me in the homework assignment I began to feel like my mark would suffer or that
I would get a really bad mark, and although I never got a very terrible mark, I did find myself
focusing on it too much at times. I found it was easier to focus less on the grade at the beginning
and at the end of the semester, so I just need to work on managing my stress in the middle of the
semester to keep myself from nitpicking my grades. I did find that when I did have the time to
write out notes for the readings or even just having notes in the margins it helped me understand
and my grades then reflected that, so for the future I will have to remember to keep that in mind.

same signs of the 2007 2008 bear market that led to the Great Recession. I lost money trying to
trade the waves as the price action continued to be choppy like a great sea storm. I didn t know
that I was bleeding money as the coins where falling out of my pocket from transaction fees due
to my stop loss orders being triggered, a method I called the seat belt when a secerity starts to go
the wrong way.
The biggest stressor was a when the earnings season occured and I had been following the fall of
retail (brick and morter). Companies where continuing to report horrible earning reports. I placed
a virtual trade on one of the retailers and I was right. The payout was huge. I felt that the trend
was across the industry, so I found the next retailer within the same subsector, clothing, as it was
another mild winter, and they company sold winter clothing for the season just like the previous
trade. This time with real money. There were a surprise earnings. The company beat expectations
by a long shot. I knew in my mind that this was not correct. But I had lost couple thousand dollars
just on that one trade. I had just felt a significant financial change. I watched my account drop
nearly ten grand over the course of 2015. I didn t have that much to play with, but the chopping
