Western Influence and Women of the Middle East Essay
Western Influence and Women of the Middle East
The omnipresence of the American and European culture in the countries of the Middle East is a
universally recognized phenomenon. The culture, thoughts and status quo of the people have been and
continually are being changed and challenged due the mass spread of American goods and ideas. The
American national culture largely revolves around the wants, needs and goals of the individual. As the
one of the greatest superpowers of the time, its influence on the global community towards the focus
on the individual is nothing short of inevitable. The movies, clothing and new age mentality of
America are sending all people regardless of age, upbringing and locale, into a grand scale social ...

The emptiness started hemming in me (Five Seasons 33)
Nadia feels the strain in her marriage due to her husband s greed and capitalist ideals. His sole goal
through out the novel is to be in competition with his brother. The belief that individualism is the key
to having success in the business world dominates her husband. Individualism removes one from the
society as whole and focus on ones own goals and ideals rather than the greater good of the society,
which is the traditional manner of the Arab and Muslim societies. This new practice of removing
oneself from the community unfavorably affects the societal mores Nadia tries to adhere to. She wants
to be a dutiful wife and desperately clings to the tradition of ...that Bedouin woman long ago, whose
advice to her daughters has been passed down through generations of women... Do whatever he tells
you. Keep all his secrets. Let him only find the purest fragrance on you (33)
The treatment she receives from Ihsan sparks feelings in Nadia that have strong feminist connotations.
The pet name kitten and his constant nagging concerning her looks and demeanor needing to be at a
superior level to promote his business dealings irritate her immensely. Has he any idea, when he sees
me as his woman of the way a great snake bites at me? A rebellious snake, but helpless too. It coils
around, deep

Maslow s Humanistic Approach Theory
Maslow s Humanistic Approach theory was based solely on what motivates people to reach our
highest potential. He believed that individuals have set motivation systems and individuals achieve a
set of needs by passing these motivation systems. Maslow believed these stages were set in a
hierarchal order and that the lowest system must be accomplished before moving up. He believed
there to be eight stages in his hierarchy. He believed that every person is capable to move up the
hierarchy as long as there basic needs are encountered and they have the desire to reach the highest
potential. According to Maslow, only a small percentage of the population reaches the level of self
actualisation (NetMBA, 2002). The first stage of Maslow s hierarchy ... Show more content on

Until she meets a man that can provide this basic need in life, she will continue feeling lonely and will
continue being desperate for this need. Sex can help boost your spirits through mood elevating
endorphins. Without the benefit of these natural pick me ups, you might be prone to feeling low
(Streicher, 2017). Even though she has dated men in the past, they have not met her needs in a man
and therefore she has not been motivated to move up the hierarchy. Even when she thought she found
a man that met her standards, she would still end up hurt and would fall down the hierarchy back to
stage one. It is proven in the scenario that Ruth also likes her men intelligent, as she believes that if
this individual is intelligent, they will understand her as an individual better and they will pursue and
motivate her to reach the self actualisation that she needs. When Ruth believed she found the one and
continued to chat online with him for hours upon hours, her basic need for sex was skipped until she
met him in person as she believed that all of her other basic needs were already met. The next stage
that Ruth had to undergo in this relationship were her safety needs. As she continued to talk to him
online and did not have any sense of suspiciousness towards him not being whom he said he was, her
safety needs towards him were encountered. They safety needs were also met when Ruth gave out her
address for her new online chatter to send her gifts, as she believed that she was

Danger Of Colored Food
The Dangers of Colored Food
What is naturally blue? The only one that comes to mind is blueberries, but are there any more. In
contrast the list of yellow and red fruits and vegetables is copious. So how can anything blue be
naturally colored when blueberries are the only pure food blue?(Gilman) Colored added to food is one
of the most regulated food ingredient; any color added to food is passed by the Food and Drug
Administration. But why are all these food dyes so bad. Color additions are what make food look

Research Paper On Alice In Wonderland
Alice in Wonderland Imagination; everyone possesses it and everyone utilizes it on multiple occasions
during their lifetime. In Lewis Carroll s classic tale Alice in Wonderland, a small, adventurous girl by
the name of Alice stumbles through a world created in the depths of her imagination: Wonderland.
While the nonsensical characters and seemingly insane laws of nature distract our minds, Carroll
weaves a theme into the story s fabric with miniscule hints, easy to miss. Alice s Adventures in
Wonderland exhibits a sort of duality; its purpose appears to be the entertainment of the masses, all the
while disguising a penetrating and emotional theme. Before exposing the overarching theme of Lewis
Carroll s tale, it is necessary to point out ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
From dealing with outrageous adult behavior to literally growing up too quickly, Alice slowly ventures
nearer and nearer to the adulthood and maturity that awaits here. However, she does not need to leave
her imagination behind her, in reality that is one of the few things she can never outgrow. Proving both
these points is the final few paragraphs of the book, in which Alice s older sister reminisces about her
own childhood and, for a brief moment, ventures herself into the wonderful world of Wonderland. Yet
it is possible that the original story, the one orally presented to Alice Liddell, was simply for
amusement as Lewis Carroll actually added several tales to the transcribed version of his fanciful tale.
Alice s Adventures in Wonderland serves two purposes. First, it amuses younger readers, taking them
through the whimsical world of Alice s imagination which is filled to the brim with kooky characters
and odd organisms. However, it s second purpose takes adults on a separate journey, a journey down
memory lane. Adults can enjoy a nostalgic ride through imagination with the emotional message of
never being too old to imagine. Lewis Carroll s masterpiece is certainly a literary classic, unlike Pride

Effective Use Of Imagery In Marianne Moore s Poetry
In Poetry , Marianne Moore explains that it is not that she does not like poetry, but it is the idea that
poetry is simply not the same anymore. Poetry conveys ingenuity and candid ideas; it should be used
to express one s authentic thoughts and feelings. Moore connects the use of imagery to expound on the
interpretation that people do not appreciate or like what they do not understand. The poem purposely
has no true structure, as it is written in free form with no rhyme scheme or pattern. Moore shows her
frustration with the addressed autocrats of literature and displays that by using an ironic tone in the
composition of the poem. Through Moore s use of imagery, she highlights people s lack of originality
and perspective. In the line Hands that can grasp, eyes that can dilate, hair that can rise if it must, these
things are important not because a high sounding interpretation can be put upon them but because they
are useful... (Moore 6), the speaker is stating one s ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The poem has a natural flow, exemplifying that poetry does not have to abide by a set of rules. People
are used to thinking they must follow the cliché guidelines that poetry must rhyme, have a pattern, or a
hidden meaning, and that simply is not true. The unrestrained arrangement of the poem connects with
one of Moore s concluding lines, ...the raw material of poetry in all its rawness... (44). The speaker s
use of enjambment represents the flow of her thoughts in the poem. Every word continued over the
line break has its own emphasis. For example, there are only two periods in the poem, one in the first
stanza and one at the very end. The period is placed in the quote, ...one discovers after it all, a place
for the genuine. , which puts emphasis on the word genuine. Moore uses this to officially open the
readers mind to genuine poetry, as after that point she provides justifications as to what makes it
genuine with the

Strength Of The British Royal Navy Essay
The Strength of the British Royal Navy The strength of the British Royal Navy is that the Admiral
Nelson discovered a method to break the French Naval lines. Also, another advantage is that the

French to break their lines. Lastly, their readiness throughout the battle was strong because the British

A well organized transportation system decreases overheads, while a disorganized transportation
system increases expenditures (Gerdes, 2008). The effects of transportation are not at all times
anticipated, and can include unintended or unforeseen impacts like congestion. Transport as well
carries a vital environmental and social load that cannot be ignored. The additional values along with
employment impacts of transport services generally extend past employment as well as added value
created by that activity; indirect impacts are most important. For instance, transportation firms buy a
fraction of their effort from local dealers. The manufacturing of these inputs creates additional value
added as well as job opportunities in the local market. The sellers in turn buy goods and services from
other local companies. There are added rounds of local re spending that produce additional value
added in addition to employment. In the same way, homes that get revenue from jobs created in
transport activities use some of their earnings on local supplies as well as services. These acquisitions
result in extra local employment and added value. A number of of the household earnings from these
additional jobs is subsequently used up on local commodities and services, thus creating more jobs as

Compare And Contrast Bbkar And Babasaheb Ambedkar
When we talked about the famous Indian leader, Mahatma Gandhi will be the first person that comes

reforming India. One of them is Babasaheb Ambedkar. If I have to compare both of them with the

while Babasaheb Ambedkar is like the warlord who fight for equality and justice in the country. To be

Ambedkar saw untouchability as the additional product of caste system, and believed that there could

Ambedkar believed that the caste system was actually a division of labourers which simply meant that
the caste system is the basis of assigning occupations. This caused a stagnant economy in
communities because the system did not allow people to have other professional skills and entered
other professions outside the caste group. He said that fixity of occupations hindered the growth and
development of the Indian economy and the society. In his thought, people should do the work that is
best suited to them to gain the most efficient or else this would lead to immobility of both labour and

Circumplex Model of Marriage and Family Therapy Paper
The Circumplex Model of Marriage and Family Systems was developed in an attempt to bridge the
gap between research, theory and practice. The model, together with the assessment tools developed to
use with it, are specially designed to assess the functionality of families and develop a treatment plan.
The hypothesis of the Circumplex Model is that balanced couple and family systems tend to function
better than unbalanced systems.

dimensions were the ones most commonly used out of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Roles are shared and rules changed. In the rigid relationship the leader is controlling and makes all the
decisions. Rules do not change. In the chaotic relationship, there is little or no leadership. Decisions
are not well thought out. Roles are unclear.
Communication is the third dimension and is not depicted on the model. It is a facilitating dimension
necessary for facilitating changes in the other two dimensions. This dimension is measured by
listening skills, speaking skills, self disclosure, clarity, continuity tracking and respect and regard.
Balanced family systems have good communication.
Self reporting instruments and rating scales were developed to access the status of couples and
families on the dimensions of the Circumplex Model and to test hypotheses derived from the model
(Olsen, D. H., 2000, May). FACES III is the name of the self reporting instrument.
The Circumplex model can help a large variety of people. It can be beneficial for ethnic and cultural
diversity. If the questions answered on the FACES questionnaire place a couple on the model as an
unbalanced, it doesn t mean they are dysfunctional, as long as all the family members fall into a
similar pattern. The model also maps changes in the family dynamics. Over 250 studies have been
done supporting the hypothesis that balanced systems are more functional that unbalanced systems.

case insensitive programming languages].
Compiler based
C++ is a compiler based programming language that means without compilation no C++ program can
be executed. First we need compiler to compile our program and then execute.
Syntax based language
C++ is a strongly tight syntax based programming language. If any language follow rules and

Essay Sympathy for Stanley in A Streetcar Named Desire
Sympathy for Stanley in A Streetcar Named Desire
Can we view Stanley sympathetically in scene 3?
However to be able to view Stanley sympathetically we need to understand his emotion and mentality,
before we make a full judgment on him. I personally feel Stanley is a harsh character but I also believe
he is pushed into doing such actions and I cannot help feel that if Blanche had not visited none of this
would have happened. In this particular scene I do sympathise with Stanley and I will go into greater
detail to explain why I commiserate with his character.

His only concern is to discover whether he has been cheated. Stanley has every reason to be annoyed

no interest in Blanches feelings, however given the circumstances this is understandable. Stanley feels

Evil Is Evil Real
The explanation of the word reify is to regard or treat an abstraction or idea as if it had concrete or

opinion that something is real, instead of having evidence. According to our textbook Philosophy: An
Introduction to the Art of Wondering:
Evil is a judgment that we render about a person or event, as in Apartheid is evil and He thinks evil

Deadly Disease of West Nile Virus
West Nile Virus Disease
The first recorded case of the West Nile virus was in the West Nile area (Uganda) of Africa in 1937 as
stated by Peairs (2014) (para. 5). The virus has spread in recent years to Europe and the United States,
causing illness in birds, horses, and humans. Peairs (2014) also stated that the first case of the virus in
the U.S. was detected in 1999 in New York City (para. 8). Today, the virus has expanded across the
U.S. and continues to infect thousands of people each year.
The West Nile virus is most frequently transmitted to humans by mosquitoes. The people who acquire
this virus are usually asymptomatic, although, in severe cases, this virus can cause serious
neurological diseases or can ultimately lead to death. The World Health Organization (2011) states that
the West Nile virus is commonly found in Africa, Europe, the Middle East, North America, and West
Asia. There are currently no medications or vaccine available to treat or prevent the West Nile virus,
though there are several ways that one can protect themselves and ways one can ease the symptoms of
the virus.
According to Sejvar (2014), the ongoing outbreak of the West Nile virus in North America has greatly
expanded our understanding of the spectrum of illness associated with the West Nile Virus infection in
humans, and a number of previously under recognized syndromes have been characterized (para. 2).

Enlightenment, according to Emmanuel Kant is the rise of the human beings from the inability to use

Judith Slaying Holofernes Analysis
In this essay, I will discuss the startling differences between two depictions of the story of Judith and
Holofernes. Judith with the Head of Holofernes , 1495, created by Andrea Mantegna, is a small scale
painting that was completed during the Renaissance. The second is a Baroque painting, Judith Slaying
Holofernes , c.1620 by Artemisia Gentileschi and is on a larger scale than the version created by
Mantegna. Both artworks take inspiration from the religious story that appears in the Catholic editions
of the Bible. The story is about a young widowed Jewish woman, by the name of Judith, who
murdered an enemy army general, Holofernes, to spare her people from death. I will compare and
contrast how the scene has been depicted in rather different ways by each of the artists and the
influencing factors that contributed to the overall outcome of both works. I will also be discussing
how form and naturalism are portrayed between the two paintings, use of colour, symbolism and
religion, as well as the Renaissance and Baroque eras.
In each of the paintings, the figures appear somewhat different to each other, with those in Judith
Slaying Holofernes looking far more humanistic than that of Judith with the Head of Holofernes . In
Mantegna s painting, Judith and her servant, Abra, look statuesque in pose while Judith, as if in pity
for her victim, turns her eyes away from the head of Holofernes that she holds above the bag her
servant holds open Judith. In Renaissance art,

The Pros And Cons Of Canadian Confederation
Confederation itself was an incredible display of Canadian compromise and tolerance. George Brown
(1867) congratulated Canada on confederation, impressed with the Canadian s ability to compromise
between two separate peoples, the French and English, who have vastly different religions, cultures,
laws, and languages, something European countries like Holland and Belgium, Austria and Hungary,
and Russia and Poland have been historically unable to accomplish successfully. The Constitution
specifically protects important French aspects including freedom of religion, language guarantees in
Quebec, and French civil law.
The Canadian Constitution ensures duality of French and English in language. The Constitution
(1867) states that both French and English have equality of status and equal rights and privileges as to
their use in all institutions of the Parliament and Government of Canada, (Section V). However, the

Benefits Of Using Pvc Used For An Enterprise Of Pvc Furniture
CHAPTER 5
RESULT DISCUSSION
5.1 RESULT DISCUSSION
It can be easily understood by this paper that there are enormous benefits of using PVC in various
applications. Setting up an enterprise of PVC furniture can give us high returns at low input cost.
Initial set up cost of PVC furniture enterprise is also less as compared to other enterprises of same
level. This project requires less area because of its simple fabrication process and less machines
required with reduced inventory. Dedicating ourselves towards protecting environment it can save
thousands/lakhs of trees which would otherwise be used in making furniture. Also precious earth
metals can be saved for more purposeful use by using PVC in many applications. Polyvinyl chloride
(PVC) pipe are leading the way in replacing the various other materials that have been previously used
in pipe construction; they have only been scarcely used in the past, however over the past 30 years
they have proven themselves to be more than worthy replacements for the conventional materials such
as steel and iron.
PVC has a myriad of advantages over traditionally used materials. For starters, PVC and PE pipe are

internal and external pressures. However, arguably two of their most important attributes are that they

emerging adults entrance into higher education includes both opportunities and risks. The topic of

The Revolution of 1688
The Glorious Revolution, also known as the Revolution of 1688, refers to the events of 1688 1689.
These events eventually led to the overthrow of Catholic King James II and the ascension (of William
III and Mary II) to the English throne. These events also produced a significant shift in the
relationship between the monarchy and parliament. This paper will discuss the overthrow of King
James II, the rebellion and revolt and the consequences as well as the global effects of the Revolution
in order to explain the importance of this event in world history. James II, king of England from 1685
1688, inherited a very strong position when he came to power. When James II first came to the throne,
he was not very well liked in the eyes of the people of Great Britain, simply because he was a Roman
Catholic King to an overwhelmingly Protestant nation. Like most politicians, James made promises to
protect the peoples personal beliefs. At the beginning of his reign, James had promised to respect his
subject s rights and liberties and protect the Protestant establishment in the church. Despite these
promises, James decided to advance the Catholic tenets over the protestants. He did this by issuing
dispensations to Catholics including the Test Act of 1673, promoting the public celebration of mass,
forcing the universities to admit Catholics, issued a Declaration of Indulgences and also engaged a
campaign to pack Parliament so that he would be able to establish Catholic tolerance by

The Importance Of Agriculture In Schools
I think agriculture can help schools. Through Agriculture in Schools, students ages 10 14 and their
teachers receive training in best practices, including compost making, proper sowing and cultivation.
Students who participate learn to appreciate the great importance and dignity of agricultural work.
Agriculture will help with fresh ingredients; young people often have a poor opinion of agricultural
work. Clearly, this could be the answer to teach students, how to be able to grow more food of better
nutritional quality. Agriculture should be an elective or even a requirement at schools.
Many students who has grow in farms specially, do not want to have agriculture as a courses, because
they aspire to break away from what they consider a financially and morally impoverishing vocation.
So, an option could be to have agriculture, as a club where student interested on learning more about
agriculture, which is the cultivation and breeding of animals, plants and fungi (fungus) for food, fiber,
biofuel, medicinal plants and other products used to sustain and enhance human life. So with this
information, do you believe agriculture can help schools?

the peacemakers were faced with was giving freedom to the black slaves, which meant that would be
the end of slavery all together. c. Since after the war the country need much reconstruction within the

e. Johnson s Reconstruction Proclamation: i. His stance on reconstruction was similar to Lincoln s, in
that he was not as harsh on the South as the Radical Republicans in Congress wanted. In May 1865,
Johnson issued his Amnesty Proclamation, which required an oath of loyalty from former
confederates, who would then be pardoned and have their property restored (except slaves) that had be
confiscated by Federal officials during the war. The only people not included in this proclamation
were high ranking military and civilian Confederate officials and those who resigned their positions in
the Federal government to serve the in the Confederacy. Johnson issued a second proclamation
outlining his plan for how the states should go about getting themselves back into the Union. Under
this plan, the President would appoint a governor to each state under reconstruction. 5. What were the
effects of the Black Codes? a. The purpose of the black codes was to keep black people from voting.
The result was the 15th Amendment to the Constitution of the United States, which prohibited using
race as a reason to prevent people from voting. The emancipation of black slaves in post Civil War
America did not run smoothly. Though the slaves had been freed in name, many did not feel secure
about giving black people rights. The black codes prevented black Americans from voting and

Street Culture Paper
In the following paragraphs, I will describe a Street Culture organizational policy, how and when the
policy is applied in practice, develop recommendations for improving the policy, and discuss how I
would evaluate the implementation of my recommendations.
I decided to collect policy information on Street Culture Project s search protocol at Downtown
Browne s Emergency Shelter. The youth search protocol is integral to service delivery and sets the
guidelines regarding what personal belongings are allowed in the Shelter (Street Culture Project Inc.,
n.d.). In applying a youth centred approach, the protocol is developed with an emphasis on creating
awareness for the participants of what items are allowed (SCPI, n.d.). Although a youth may choose ...

The policy is applied various ways at Downtown Browne s Emergency Shelter. Two of the ways the
policy is applied are when a participant enters the Shelter or during daily room checks. When a
participant enters the Shelter, they must empty all pockets, conduct a self pat down, and empty bag(s)
of all belongings. During daily room checks, staff members utilize a comprehensive room checklist to
search for contraband or anything that may jeopardize the safety of everyone at the Shelter. To
improve the policy, I would recommend that Street Culture Project s board members ensure that staff
know how to conduct a thorough search of each youth s room at the Shelter and that all staff be
provided with a list of what is considered contraband. To evaluate the implementation of the above
recommendations, appropriate guidelines of the youth search protocol at the Shelter should be
implemented, staff are required to provide the board members with regular feedback and ideas to
improve safety at the Shelter, and regular reviews of the youth search protocol should be performed

Importance Of Puritans
Strict Puritan beliefs have been around since the late 16th century. Puritans believe in predestination,
which is the belief that God already has a plan for the people living on earth. Puritans believe in
intolerance towards others which includes religious beliefs that differ from their own. Unification of
church and state is a significant part of Puritan belief because nothing is more important to a Puritan
than God and getting into heaven. Puritans valued education because people need to know how to read
in order to read the bible. Even though the reasoning of importance may be different from a Puritan s
perspective their beliefs still exist today. Puritan beliefs still exist today through intolerance towards
others through the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Religious wars are still present today, which proves that worldwide people have a difficult time
accepting new religious beliefs. ISIS members are Muslim extremists who do not accept other people
s religious viewpoints, similar to the Puritans, muslim extremists believe there is only one right way to
worship God and that is the Muslim way. Members of ISIS are starting a holy war because they are
trying to carry out deeds in the name of God because they believe that is what God wants. Intolerance
towards others is exhibited in today s society through the failed attempt of the First Amendment, and
through the occurrence of a holy war. Unification of state and church has decreased significantly over
the last couple centuries but is still around in today s society through laws, failed attempts at trying to
keep the church out of school, and through US currency. As much as people do not want to admit that
laws come from the Bible, no one knows who decided that killing people is wrong. The Ten
Commandments are ten standards that Christians believe God set for people on earth, and in order to
proceed to heaven after death, people must follow all ten of the commandments. Each species follow
their own customs, for example, female praying mantises eat male praying mantises which is normal
for praying mantises.

Repressing Words In Maya Angelou s Graduation Day
You can not do it. You are not good enough. How often have these words torn down a person s self
esteem and confidence. How often have these words stood in the way of a person s success, paralyzing
that person in fear or disappointment. Maya Angelou knew this feeling well in her story, Graduation
Day. The excitement and pride of graduating is taken away by one man s words. These words lead the
audience to believe that they are worthless. However, repressive words only possess power when
allowed.
It is unquestioned that repressing words affect how a person views him or herself. Words can go as far
as to change the whole tone of a day. Angelou recounts the day with vivid details of laughter, pride,
and joy. However, these feelings are replaced within moments, when one man s speech reminds the
people of their oppression. Repressing words take control when the subject of attack forgets his or her
worth. This stance is proven on page 186 of Graduation Day. Angelou states, The man s dead words
fell like bricks around the auditorium... the proud graduating class of 1940 had dropped their heads.
Donleavy had exposed us. The entire auditorium allowed themselves to be subjected to the beliefs of
one man, allowing themselves to reform to what the speaker was claiming. Often words such as these
leave a person feeling defenseless. It was brutal to be young and already trained to sit quietly and
listen to charges brought against my color with no chance at defense. Colored people trained at a
young age, believed that their race stood no chance at equality. While repressive words have power,
that power is dependent upon the individual.
It does not have to stay that way. When faced with repression, an individual has two choices. It is
typical for a person to allow those words to become their reality. Angelou began to define her race as
worthless. She conformed to the ideas of others, stirring up feelings of hatred. She goes as far to say,
We were an abomination. All of us (Angelou, 2014, p.186 ). The power of repression is once again
evident. While not as popular, there is a second choice. This choice is demonstrated when a person
does not allow words of repression to define their worth. This choice

The Concept Of A Naval Battle
The concept of a naval battle has been around since approximately 1210 B.C.E. However, it would be
several thousands of years before its most important and revolutionary changes would be brought
about. The idea of a submersible ship has been around since the Revolution, although its success was
minimal at best. The first modern submarine would be developed in the late 19th century and would
be first used successfully in warfare by the Germans in World War 1. It arguably led to the American s
victory over Japan in World War II. Since their development submarines have paved the way for the
evolution of strategy, revolutionary new tactics, as well as playing a vital role in the nuclear triad,
redefining war.
No longer would the Mahanian strategy of a decisive battle be the norm, nor considered the best way
to fight naval battles. With the advent of the submarine, navies could now look into denying their
enemies the sea rather than struggling to control it (Hughes, n.d.). A contributing aspect of this sea
denial is the ability to greatly extend coastal defense. Coastal defense can not be looked at in a
traditional sense. These ships are not looking to simply defend the coast, but rather are cruising
thousands of miles of shore to sink as much of the enemy fleet as possible, thereby crippling their
ability to attack (Lautenschlager, 1987). Submarines also introduce a new element to psychological
warfare. As stated in Karl Lautenschlager s publication for International Security,

Yet it is possible that the original story, the one orally presented to Alice Liddell, was simply for amusement as Lewis Carroll actually added several tales to the transcribed version of his fanciful tale. First, it amuses younger readers, taking them through the whimsical world of Alice s imagination which is filled to the brim with kooky characters and odd organisms. Effective Use Of Imagery In Marianne Moore s Poetry In Poetry , Marianne Moore explains that it is not that she does not like poetry, but it is the idea that poetry is simply not the same anymore. Poetry conveys ingenuity and candid ideas; it should be used to express one s authentic thoughts and feelings. Moore connects the use of imagery to expound on the interpretation that people do not appreciate or like what they do not understand. The poem purposely has no true structure, as it is written in free form with no rhyme scheme or pattern. Moore shows her frustration with the addressed autocrats of literature and displays that by using an ironic tone in the composition of the poem. Through Moore s use of imagery, she highlights people s lack of originality and perspective. • 31. Judith Slaying Holofernes Analysis In this essay, I will discuss the startling differences between two depictions of the story of Judith and Holofernes. Judith with the Head of Holofernes , 1495, created by Andrea Mantegna, is a small scale painting that was completed during the Renaissance. The second is a Baroque painting, Judith Slaying Holofernes , c.1620 by Artemisia Gentileschi and is on a larger scale than the version created by Mantegna. Both artworks take inspiration from the religious story that appears in the Catholic editions of the Bible. The story is about a young widowed Jewish woman, by the name of Judith, who murdered an enemy army general, Holofernes, to spare her people from death. I will compare and contrast how the scene has been depicted in rather different ways by each of the artists and the influencing factors that contributed to the overall outcome of both works. I will also be discussing how form and naturalism are portrayed between the two paintings, use of colour, symbolism and religion, as well as the Renaissance and Baroque eras. In each of the paintings, the figures appear somewhat different to each other, with those in Judith Slaying Holofernes looking far more humanistic than that of Judith with the Head of Holofernes . At the beginning of his reign, James had promised to respect his subject s rights and liberties and protect the Protestant establishment in the church. Despite these promises, James decided to advance the Catholic tenets over the protestants. The result was the 15th Amendment to the Constitution of the United States, which prohibited using race as a reason to prevent people from voting. The emancipation of black slaves in post Civil War America did not run smoothly. Though the slaves had been freed in name, many did not feel secure about giving black people rights. The black codes prevented black Americans from voting and restricted their ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 45. Street Culture Paper In the following paragraphs, I will describe a Street Culture organizational policy, how and when the policy is applied in practice, develop recommendations for improving the policy, and discuss how I would evaluate the implementation of my recommendations. I decided to collect policy information on Street Culture Project s search protocol at Downtown Browne s Emergency Shelter. The youth search protocol is integral to service delivery and sets the guidelines regarding what personal belongings are allowed in the Shelter (Street Culture Project Inc., n.d.). In applying a youth centred approach, the protocol is developed with an emphasis on creating awareness for the participants of what items are allowed (SCPI, n.d.). Although a youth may choose ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The policy is applied various ways at Downtown Browne s Emergency Shelter. Two of the ways the policy is applied are when a participant enters the Shelter or during daily room checks. When a participant enters the Shelter, they must empty all pockets, conduct a self pat down, and empty bag(s) of all belongings. During daily room checks, staff members utilize a comprehensive room checklist to search for contraband or anything that may jeopardize the safety of everyone at the Shelter. To improve the policy, I would recommend that Street Culture Project s board members ensure that staff know how to conduct a thorough search of each youth s room at the Shelter and that all staff be provided with a list of what is considered contraband. To evaluate the implementation of the above recommendations, appropriate guidelines of the youth search protocol at the Shelter should be implemented, staff are required to provide the board members with regular feedback and ideas to improve safety at the Shelter, and regular reviews of the youth search protocol should be performed (McNamara, ... • 46. Importance Of Puritans Strict Puritan beliefs have been around since the late 16th century. Puritans believe in predestination, which is the belief that God already has a plan for the people living on earth. Puritans believe in intolerance towards others which includes religious beliefs that differ from their own. Unification of church and state is a significant part of Puritan belief because nothing is more important to a Puritan than God and getting into heaven. Puritans valued education because people need to know how to read in order to read the bible. Even though the reasoning of importance may be different from a Puritan s perspective their beliefs still exist today. Puritan beliefs still exist today through intolerance towards others through the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Religious wars are still present today, which proves that worldwide people have a difficult time accepting new religious beliefs. ISIS members are Muslim extremists who do not accept other people s religious viewpoints, similar to the Puritans, muslim extremists believe there is only one right way to worship God and that is the Muslim way. Members of ISIS are starting a holy war because they are trying to carry out deeds in the name of God because they believe that is what God wants. Intolerance towards others is exhibited in today s society through the failed attempt of the First Amendment, and through the occurrence of a holy war. Unification of state and church has decreased significantly over the last couple centuries but is still around in today s society through laws, failed attempts at trying to keep the church out of school, and through US currency. As much as people do not want to admit that laws come from the Bible, no one knows who decided that killing people is wrong. The Ten Commandments are ten standards that Christians believe God set for people on earth, and in order to proceed to heaven after death, people must follow all ten of the commandments. Each species follow their own customs, for example, female praying mantises eat male praying mantises which is normal for praying mantises. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 47. Repressing Words In Maya Angelou s Graduation Day You can not do it. You are not good enough. How often have these words torn down a person s self esteem and confidence. How often have these words stood in the way of a person s success, paralyzing that person in fear or disappointment. Maya Angelou knew this feeling well in her story, Graduation Day. The excitement and pride of graduating is taken away by one man s words. These words lead the audience to believe that they are worthless. However, repressive words only possess power when allowed. It is unquestioned that repressing words affect how a person views him or herself. Words can go as far as to change the whole tone of a day. Angelou recounts the day with vivid details of laughter, pride, and joy. However, these feelings are replaced within moments, when one man s speech reminds the people of their oppression. Repressing words take control when the subject of attack forgets his or her worth. This stance is proven on page 186 of Graduation Day. Angelou states, The man s dead words fell like bricks around the auditorium... the proud graduating class of 1940 had dropped their heads. Donleavy had exposed us. The entire auditorium allowed themselves to be subjected to the beliefs of one man, allowing themselves to reform to what the speaker was claiming. Often words such as these leave a person feeling defenseless. It was brutal to be young and already trained to sit quietly and listen to charges brought against my color with no chance at defense. Colored people trained at a young age, believed that their race stood no chance at equality. While repressive words have power, that power is dependent upon the individual. It does not have to stay that way. When faced with repression, an individual has two choices. It is typical for a person to allow those words to become their reality. Angelou began to define her race as worthless. She conformed to the ideas of others, stirring up feelings of hatred. She goes as far to say, We were an abomination. All of us (Angelou, 2014, p.186 ). The power of repression is once again evident. While not as popular, there is a second choice. This choice is demonstrated when a person does not allow words of repression to define their worth. This choice ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 48. The Concept Of A Naval Battle The concept of a naval battle has been around since approximately 1210 B.C.E. However, it would be several thousands of years before its most important and revolutionary changes would be brought about. The idea of a submersible ship has been around since the Revolution, although its success was minimal at best. The first modern submarine would be developed in the late 19th century and would be first used successfully in warfare by the Germans in World War 1. It arguably led to the American s victory over Japan in World War II. Since their development submarines have paved the way for the evolution of strategy, revolutionary new tactics, as well as playing a vital role in the nuclear triad, redefining war. No longer would the Mahanian strategy of a decisive battle be the norm, nor considered the best way to fight naval battles. With the advent of the submarine, navies could now look into denying their enemies the sea rather than struggling to control it (Hughes, n.d.). A contributing aspect of this sea denial is the ability to greatly extend coastal defense. Coastal defense can not be looked at in a traditional sense. These ships are not looking to simply defend the coast, but rather are cruising thousands of miles of shore to sink as much of the enemy fleet as possible, thereby crippling their ability to attack (Lautenschlager, 1987). Submarines also introduce a new element to psychological warfare. As stated in Karl Lautenschlager s publication for International Security, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
