Spirit Bear Research Paper
Spirit bear Do you know what a Spirit bear is? No? Well ok i ll tell you.
Spirit Bears are actually called Kermode bears but the locals call it white bear or ghost bear. They
might call it ghost bear for the fun of it but, I know it s because of its ghost like nature. Something
amazing is that scientists said they re NOT albinos or polar bears! The odds of finding a spirit bear is 1
to 1mil.!!!
Do you know that they DON T always have white mothers? No... good.
In 2000 there was a black bear mom with 2 white bear cubs in Beause Manitoba. Also in 1997 a
subadult white bear named Halo caused such a media stir that that the lesulater for Minnesota gave
protection to all white bears. Unlucky for the lesulater because Halo is the only one since.

Symbolism In Denzel Washington s The Book Of Eli
The first 30 minutes of The Book of Eli give you a mood like none other. You ve got your typical
movie post apocalyptic America, full of billboard ruins and dead skeletons in ruined cars. Our
supposed protagonist, Denzel Washington walks around this post apocalyptic time killing cats for food
and their cosmetic properties and scoring precious commodities like shoes and wet wipes off of dead
bodies. However was the killing of the cat a symbolic situation? This is because the feline is looked
upon as a feminine pet and he murders it so brutally then eats it. He camps in abandoned houses and
makes friends with rats to break up the boredom. Though, as bad as things are, he still has a working

That s the question that a person can infer. Carnegie says he can use the book as a weapon to control

sex and to retrieve to the book. Solara was played by Mila Kunis. When Solara enters Eli s quarters
she tries to seduce him but failed. She opens up to him about her and her mother s situation with
Carnegie. Eli shows compassion and let her know that he has the book. They fled the borderline town
and continue on Eli s journey west with the book. In time on the journey, Eli and Solara stumble upon
an isolated house. They fall into a trap, but manage to alleviate the suspicions of the residents, George
and Martha; they invite them in for tea. When Eli realizes that the couples are cannibals, they attempt
to leave just as Carnegie and his gang pulls up. In the resulting shootout, George, Martha and many of
Carnegie s men are killed. While Eli and Solara are captured, Carnegie threatens to kill Solara unless
Eli surrenders the Book. Carnegie shoots Eli and takes the book. With the book now in his possession,

The Privilege Of Attending The Bush House Museum
I had the privilege of attending the Bush House Museum here in Salem. I went on Sunday November
20, 2016 and wanted to go because the house was built in the Victorian era. I ve always been quite
intrigued with the Victorian era overall. That includes architecture, people, and the culture. The Bush
House belonged to Asahel Bush II (1824 1913) became editor and publisher of The Oregon Statesman
newspaper in 1851, and later served as state printer. He lived in the house with Eugenia Zieber Bush
(1833 1863) and his four children, Estelle (1856 1942), Asahel (1858 1953), Sally (1860 1946) and
Eugenia (1862 1932). Later in 1863, Bush s wife died at age 39 with Tuberculosis and so the children
only lived with him after that while later moving forth with their own lives as adults. However, I have
declined to provide a ticket due to this following reason: my good colleague, Karen Howard and I got
lost trying to locate the Bush House Museum. We finally arrived at 1:20 and graciously waited for the
tour guide to come to the door after we rang the bell. She came out and we explained to her that we
lost our way in trying to find the house. We told her we intended to come for the 1pm tour. Thankfully,
we did not have to wait for the 2pm tour and she took us right in. After, we finished the guided tour,
she said we did not even need to come back and prove to her that we bought tickets, she said we
simply needed to pay the admission price at the nearby art gallery. When we went to go

Success of President George W. Bush
Being one of only two President whose fathers were former President, George W. Bush had big shoes
to fill. To establish himself as a separate person, Bush did his best to publicly distance from his
families privilege life. Although this in did not apply to all aspects of his presidency, Bush handled
both foreign and domestic affairs in a way he thought to be most successful for the nation. Entering
into his first term as President, Bush had some domestic changes. He severed America s ties with
international health programs that penalized the practice of abortion and limited government funding
to go towards embryonic stem cells research. While the disuse of abortion and embryonic stem cells
was viewed as successful by the unborn child, it angered many Americans, especially knowing that
scientists believed the cure to Parkinson s and Alzheimer s diseases could be found through embryonic
stem cells. To the pleasure of oil companies, Bush advocated for a new oil exploration of the coast of
Alaska in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge and allowed his Vice President to negotiate his
administration s energy policy with large oil companies during closed door meetings. However, this
and a number of other harmful acts angered environmentalists, including the rejecting Kyoto Treaty
which would have limited greenhouse gas emissions. Perhaps his largest affect on domestic affairs
was the $1.3 trillion dollar tax cut, which turned out to be unsuccessful as the federal surpluses from

History Of The NHL
Hockey, a one hundred, and forty two year old sport, that has captured the attention of many for as
long as it has existed. Despite the age of the sport, the National Hockey League (or NHL) has only
been in the United States for ninety three years. The NHL had set a basis for the game and also
supported the rise of many teams and secured a forever spot in sports history. The first American team
to be incorporated into the national league, the Boston Bruins, have been one of the longest standing
teams in US history. Even though the game existed in the country before the NHL came around, the
organization brought life to one of the most famous teams of the twenty first century. The team came
into being on Nov. 1, 1924, when Charles Francis ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
During this game the Boston played against one of Montreal s teams; the Maroons. Not many people
attended the game due to the lack of intrigue the 1920 s held for it. When the game was set to start
only a handful of people took to the stands. Boston being only a month old, and the only American
representative team, the game brought intrigue. The Bruins trailed 1 0 after the first period, they
rallied back in the second frame, scoring two goals en route to defeating their fellow expansionists 2 1
( Boston Bruins Host NHL s First Game In U.S ). The score of the game seemed to be a strong start
for the newborn team, however, it was just the beginning of their downfall. After their first, the Bruins
lost every game in the season until the next year. With the help of this game, as well as the
encouragement of hockey fans, more teams were born. During 1924 there were four well known teams
in the seven year old NHL. The original teams included the Montreal Canadiens, Montreal Wanderers,
Ottawa Senators, and Toronto Arenas as well as the Quebec Bulldogs ( Hockey Basics 9). Although
these early groups were popular in the twenty s only the name of the Montreal Canadiens and Ottawa
Senators have lived to see the light of day in the two thousands. Canada was once the leading NHL

1. SPIRITUALITY: Describe a tenet or practice of your faith tradition or spirituality that has allowed

My Christian upbringing has enabled me to learn and embrace God s love in my life. I know and
believe that God exists and has good plans for his children (us). I also believe that I am God s child
and He is always there to assist me and comfort me whenever I need Him. All I must do is call on him.

After graduation, I plan on doing a year of service, preferably with an organization that focuses on

year of volunteer service will give me the experience I need before enrolling into law school. Another
reason why I am dedicating one year after graduation to service is because I am very passionate about
helping my neighbors. Here at Xavier, I have learned how to be a woman for and with others and
therefore I share my gifts, pursue justice and have concern for the poor and the marginalized. I aspire
to keep that value for the rest of my life. In doing the service work, I will also keep the value of

Shortcomings Of Social Media
Communication is an integral aspect in organizational success. The efficiency of both the internal and
the external communication determine the success of a given organization. As such, use of the most
effective means of communication is fundamental to the success of organizations (Benson, 2016). In
this excerpt, an examination of the benefits and shortcomings of using social media as well as having
kick off meetings will be analyzed.
Think of a time that social media was used on a project. Describe what was used and the purpose of
communication (inform, persuade, motivate, interact, inspire). What were the benefits and challenges
of using that social media? Citing a case in context, our organization aimed at motivating people to
participate in a corporate social responsibility (CSR) program. The members of the workforce were to
attend a tree planting event. However, much of the members were opposed to the idea as they
preferred attending a team building retreat. Therefore, the communication department was charged
with the duty of motivating the members to develop a positive attitude towards the corporate social
responsibility (CSR) event. Therefore, the communication team consistently posted positive effects of
participating in CSR. In this undertaking, the posts were made emotional hence touching the players
by both benefits and shortcomings of using the social media were manifested. It was meant to reach
all the members of staff almost immediately. Comments from

Animal Rights Argumentative Analysis
What makes hunting and trapping for sport is that people that do hunt or trap are seeing these animals
as renewable resources. They can reproduce without the help of humans; however, that does not give
humans the right to use them as a natural resource. It is a failure to not treat them with respect. One of
the main concerns for defending hunting is that it is not different than what wildlife does to each other.
The rights view sees that animals not moral agents, and have different morals than what humans have.
Then only have to kill what they need to. The still cause harm, but do no moral harm in the logic of
the rights view.
Regan does take into account how humans treat endangered species. The rights view is not contrasting

Leaver culture considers nature in how it improves with the world around it. Ismael uses the story of
Cain and Able to explain the difference. For anyone that has grown up learning about Christian
beliefs, the story of Cain and Able is taught as a way that if you go against God then you get punished.
The way Ishmael explains it, is more about a difference of cultures. Able represents the Leaver
culture, while Cain is a part of the Taker culture. If humans look at the story from the Taker
perspective, they see how it is a perspective in the bible. The story makes more sense if it looked from
a Leavers perspective. However, Leaver culture is not fully gone; but Taker culture has taken a
majority of control.
Regan main claim is that humans are no capably of fully knowing when the animals suffer, but that
does not deny them the rights they need. Regan is searching for the answer in how to communicate
with animals. Ishmael knows that our lost connection with nature is due to human s own fault.
Humans separated ourselves so far that humans cannot reach that communication point with nature.
However, if humans were to be like Leaver culture, then humans would be able to work with nature.
At that point humans could gain the communication back to

While not at the beach or on vacation, summer can be a great time to get a little work done around the
house. Whether you are improving property value or just making your house a home, there is a lot to
be done. When it comes to the nicer weather, most common improvements happen to the exterior of
the home. You can improve the interior at any time, but the exterior can only be done in the right
weather. This is the main reason that as soon as the snow melts, most people start to fix up the outside.
Not only does the spring weather make you want to be outside, but it also inspires many of us to start
fixing the things that others see. Since exterior appearances are important to many of us and the fact
that we value what others think about us, we put a lot into the exterior of our homes. ... Show more

of the top summer projects are by asking the employees and contractors in the area. Here is a list of
the five most common summer fix ups they see on a regular basis. Decks and Patios One of the top all
time summer projects is a new deck or patio. When it gets to be summer time, people think of
barbeques and outdoor parties. Whether they are just family get togethers or block parties with friends,
neighbors, or coworkers, these bring about the desire to build a bigger and better deck. This is a fairly
simple project that requires more time and effort than

Reflection Of Cooperative Learning
An important skill for students to develop in school is collaboration. During this course, I learned
more in depth knowledge about students working with others within a concept called cooperative
learning. Cooperative learning is one of three goal structures associated with motivation. The three
structures are cooperative, competitive, and individualistic. Though all three are used to motivate
students to achieve goals, I believe cooperative is the most ideal goal structure for student
development. Cooperative learning involves putting student in groups for a lesson and requiring all
students to succeed in order for any one individual to earn rewards. This strategy enforces individual
accountability for each child to complete their share ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As a future educator, I want my own students to have those same experiences that I have had and
cooperative learning is a perfect way to motivate the development of collaborative skills.
The fifth and final concept I found to be enlightening throughout the semester was the concept of
divergent thinking versus convergent thinking. Divergent thinking is a type of thinking, whose goal is
to come up with numerous unique and original ideas. One of the most common aspects of divergent
thinking is brainstorming. This is frequently used within school and many other domains in order to
come up with a large amount of ideas or topics at once. To contrast, convergent thinking is a type of
thinking that focuses on finding a specific answer. Convergent thinking is used for situations where
there is only one answer such as how many presidents there have been or how many states there are in
America. Divergent thinking is more often used for open ended questions or to come up with
completely new ideas. Divergent thinking is also a method of thinking that enhances student creativity.
When in the midst of divergent thinking, a person is supposed to defer their judgment of ideas until
later and create the most off the wall ideas possible. I especially enjoyed learning about divergent and
convergent thinking because I had not realized there were various types of thinking. I had believed
people could decide to be creative

Music and Poetry
Music and Poetry
The poetry of William Wordsworth initiated the Romantic Era by emphasizing emotion, intuition, and
pleasure rather than form and affectation. His poems set the stage for John Keats, a central figure in
early 19th century Romanticism. The fundamental themes in the works of both poets include: the
beauty of nature; the consanguinity of dreams/visions and reality and yet the tendency of dreams to
mask reality; the intense emotions brought about by beauty and/or suffering; and the transience of
both sensation and human life. Although William Wordsworth and John Keats wrote poetry with
entirely different senses of purpose, they came together in the worship of a song that each found in
nature. Both Wordsworth and Keats ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Wordsworth s persona in The Solitary Reaper explores the limitations of language as he watches the
maiden in the field, enthralled by her melancholy strain (6). Unable to know of what she sings, he is
forced to rely only on musical characteristics to influence his reaction. Such things as tone, quality,
audible key, and tempo make it possible for one to grasp the essence of music. Although the maiden s
words flow from her lips in Gaelic, the persona is able to identify the emotions underlying her song
from the melodic nature of the lines she sings. Will no one tell me what she sings? Perhaps the
plaintive numbers flow For old, unhappy, far off things . . . Or is it some more humble lay, Familiar
matter of to day? Some natural sorrow, loss, or pain, That has been, and may be again?
Whate er the theme, the maiden sang As if her song could have no ending; (lines 17 25)
Wordsworth s persona s reliance on the melancholy sound of the maiden s song also forces him to
open his mind and his ears, leaving him free from any possible language based influence and entirely
enraptured by the sheer loveliness of the lass s simple, soul filled music.

War In A Separate Peace
For me, this moment four years is a moment in history was the war. The war was and is a reality for
me. I still instinctively live and think in its atmosphere (32). This quote made by Gene encapsulates
the major role World War II plays in A Separate Peace. John Knowles, the author, utilizes the war as a
spectacular backdrop for his novel. In fact, without World War II, this book would just be another
story lost in the churn of the millions of novels published. A Separate Peace, which would lack an
external conflict, have only a paucity of symbolisms and connections, and suffer from a lack of
explanation for many of the character s actions, would need to be completely rewritten or scratched
altogether. The absence of World War II would jeopardize ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Three of the main characters, Gene, Brinker, and Leper would all dramatically change if there was no
war. Probably the most obvious of these characters who were impacted by the World War II was
Leper. The innocent of the class, Leper never knew what he was getting into when he enlisted to ski in
the war. Leper s life is then turned upside down, and he goes completely crazy. Without the war, Leper
s character would need to be developed in some alternative way. Brinker also completely changes and
manipulates his actions as a consequence of this war. Known formerly as the most responsible,
respectable leader on campus at Devon, Brinker morphs into a character that seems particularly
indifferent and downright rebellious. Knowles indirectly characterizes him through Gene s thoughts,
mentioning that Brinker the Lawgiver had turned rebel for the Duration (122). It is very difficult for
one to say that without the war, Brinker would select the path of rebellion, rather than stay serious and
have a possibly brighter future. Finally, Gene is not only affected by his internal struggles but also the
struggle that is going on overseas as he completes his years at Devon. Like most things that happen in
the protagonist s life, Gene is never concrete on his stance or the following actions he should take on
these. He desires to lose his old, murky life in

Ironically, we associate the phrase Death by Chocolate with the stomach ache from eating too much of

young children from small villages in neighbouring African countries and force them to work on the

The Message Of Jesus Christ
But who do you say that I am? (Mark 8:29). This same question that was asked of Peter and the
disciples speaks within the heart of each person we share the Gospel message with. There comes a
point, at the crux of our catechesis, where the question, Who is Jesus? needs to be answered. At the
heart of catechesis we find, in essence, a Person, the Person of Jesus of Nazareth. (CT 5). This
compelling statement given by Pope John Paul II in his exhortation, Catechesi Tradendae, calls
catechists to always remember the purpose of catechesis. They are to help lead others, through loving
example and careful communication of doctrine, to meet a real Person, the Person of Jesus Christ and
foster a deeper union with the Blessed Trinity. To proclaim the message of Jesus Christ is vital to an
organic catechesis. As catechists, it is our vocation to bring others to know of the personal relationship
that God is seeking to have with each one of them. A relationship in any facet of the human life
requires conversation through both listening and responding. Our catechesis should be no different. As
Pope Francis states in Evangelii Gaudium, It is the message capable of responding to the desire for the
infinite which abides in every human heart (EG 165). As we actively listen to the word of God, we
should be cut to the heart (Acts 2:37) in the same way as those who heard Peter s Pentecost speech as
he boldly proclaimed the kerygma. Catechesis is not to be a teaching of each

The East Australian Current (EAC) is a surface current driven by winds over the South Pacific.
Thousands of marine animals travel on this current to reach warmer, seasonal waters or breeding
grounds. With or without animals, the current continuously moves. Mission trips are like the East
Australian Current. I have learned that the mission never ends, sweeps travelers along, and takes
people places they could never have gone on their own.
The mission will continue with or without Sunnydale s participation. Mission trips at Sunnydale are
not isolated outreach programs. The mission is much bigger than this school. The worldwide mission
system has corresponding mission trips to cover their diverse cultures and countries. The Adventist
church is not original; missions extend far beyond their denomination. In fact, the mission itself goes
beyond religion and reaches people to aid medical needs, disaster calls, and moral degradation. I
learned that the mission here at Sunnydale means spreading God in any way, shape, or form.

Tikki Tavi Theme Essay
The story of Rikki Tikki Tavi is of a story of a mongoose who fights to protect his garden and family.
The classic tale of good versus evil, where the good triumphs evil. However, there lies an allusion to
meaning between what good and evil is considered to be. Rudyard Kipling, the author of Rikki Tikki
Tavi, portrays the cobras as evil, but are they really the evil one? They shouldn t be the only one
marked evil because even Rikki Tikki resorted to such ways to achieve what he wanted. The true evil
is the self interest if these characters. We begin near the start of the story when Rikki Tikki meets with
the bird Darzee, who is in sorrow because one of his babies fell and was eaten by Nag. Right after,
Nag appears before Rikki Tikki and says I am Nag. The great god Brahm put his mark upon all our
people when the first cobra spread his hood to keep the sun off Brahm as he slept (Kipling). In
Hinduism, Brahm, or Brahma, is comparable to Christianity as god. Brahm does not represent evil, yet
in the literature the evocation of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

sabotaging Nagaina s eggs and Darzee s wife rushes to inform Rikki Tikki of the situation. Once he
arrives, Nagaina tells Rikki Tikki I will settle my account with you presently...if you come a step
nearer I strike (Kipling).
Analyzing Kipling s choice of animals is not difficult to comprehend which is good or evil . The
protagonist, the mongoose Rikki Tikki, and the antagonists are two cobras, Nag and Nagaina. The
cobras are not difficult to identify as the evil of the two since snakes are evil because they kill
(Fernando). Rikki Tikki on the other hand is portrayed as the good guy . From the text, Kipling
describes the mongoose like a little cat and... he could fluff up his tail till it looked like a bottle brush
(Kipling). A creature that is seemingly

Origins of the Second World War in Europe
To uncover the origins of the Second World War is a difficult task and to summarize it, even more so,
but this is exactly what historian P.M.H. Bell does in his astounding book The Origins of the Second
World War in Europe. Although Bell does a great job of providing accounts on both sides of the debate
on the origins of the Second World War, he does have his own mindset about it. In his eyes, Bell sees
the Second World War as being a thirty year war, driven by the ideology and economics of Germany,
which was not preplanned by blueprint. He outlines this very clearly in the conclusion of his book,
basing it on knowledge that he interlaid throughout.
Bell begins this read by illustrating the theory of the thirty years war. This, ... Show more content on

While Hitler wasn t interested in conquering the mighty USSR from the start, he did for see an
eventual war with her for her abundant resources16. Thus, the clash that the two countries had in 1941
was long coming, but not a surprise.
Living space then, was a necessary objective in Hitler s eyes, but in order to achieve this space he
needed to develop Germany s army first. So he did. Between 1933 and 1939 the Treaty of Versailles
was secretly avoided to massively increase the size of the German army, from 100,000 to 300,00017.
The Luftwaffe, German air force, also rapidly increased and by 1940 it was the strongest among all
the European powers. The German war machine was impressive, in just six years it went from being
the weakest army to one of the strongest18. However, this created a vicious circle in terms of foreign
policy for Germany: Hitler wanted living space, so he built up the army. However, in order to pay for
this rapid rearmament, he had to conquer territories. Thus, Hitler made war profitable and a key part of
the foreign policy of Germany19.
To sum up, Hitler s Germany lived on a balanced diet of economics and ideology. On the one hand,
Hitler s ideology called for living space for his great Aryan race. However, on the other hand,
economics were the backbone of building an army large enough to acquire it. This resulted in Hitler
conquering many new lands for his cause. First there was

Hamilton Vs Thomas Jefferson
Two opposing political philosophies have always existed throughout the United States of America
history: one trying to expand the power of the central government, and one trying to make it smaller or
maintain the government the way it already exist. The Federalists were wealthier and carried more
prestige. The Republicans were more diverse. In 1791, Hamilton and Jefferson were the ones trying to
get people to vote for them to become President of the United States. In this particular election
Hamilton believed that the federal government should be stronger and Jefferson argued that there was
too much power in the federal government. Jefferson believed in protecting the people. By protecting
their natural rights to life, liberty and property. He felt that the states should hold more power than the

Owning Exotic Pets Research Paper
Currently, in the pet market, a very prominent issue is present. Should private citizens be legally
allowed to own exotic pets? Owning exotic pets is dangerous, expensive, and cruel. The average
human should not be allowed to own exotic pets. In the first place, owning an exotic pet can be a risk
to your safety. The size of the animal does not determine how dangerous it is. In the article Do You
Really Want A Baby Tiger? the author Mia Lewis states It s not just big cats, poisonous snakes and
chimpanzees that can be harmful even smaller exotic pets can cause serious injuries. How dangerous
exotic pets can be is just another reason why they should not be owned by private citizens.
Along with being dangerous, exotic pets are also very expensive. Buying exotic pets is costly enough,
but they also require a great deal of money to maintain. A strong, large, sturdy habitat must be built for
the animal along with buying large amounts of food. On page 7, paragraph 3, Lewis states If keeping a
dog can be time consuming and costly, that s nothing compared to a adult lion or chimpanzee. Aside
from the cost of keeping a exotic pet, they need lots of of time and frequent attention that most people

Although there are many instances where there is potential for growth, here are a few specific
examples: opening your economy, benefits to your economy, taking advantage of comparative
advantages, building partnerships, and increased competition. By creating this trade agreement,
Primaria will open their economy and produce opportunities for growth in investments and joint
ventures. We can see from China that when a country opens their import/export business, that
opportunities for growth in investments and joint ventures increase. The trade agreement will bring
benefits to the economy, which can also be seen from China. China s economy has boomed since they
have become open to international trade, and imports have played a very large role in this economic

Why Is Medea Filicide
Argumentative Essay Rough Draft Filicide is the deliberate act in which a parent kills his or her own
children. In Euripides Medea, Medea commits filicide along with murder of a princess. Medea was
married to a man named Jason who divorced her and married the princess, Glauce. Medea was so
upset by this that she killed his new wife and her and Jason s children. When Medea s quest for
revenge leads her to slaughter innocent beings, and some call her justified, but there are many reasons
why this is not the case. Those who believe Medea was just in her murders agree that Medea was
betrayed by Jason in his breaking of marriage oaths, and in order to bring justice, feels the need to
bring suffering to him. Kim Zarins refers to Medea as ¨a victim of Jason s false love¨ (Zarins 2) Medea
loved him so passionately and then hated him so much that she was unaware of except her desire for

what was most important to him: his children and his new wife, a potential child bearer. David Sacks

not only to his living children, but hopefully to royal children in the future. Medea takes away this

Churchill and the Battle of Brittain
On June 18, 1940, Prime Minister Winston Churchill was speaking to the British House of Commons
when he said The Battle of France is over. I expect the Battle of Britain is about to begin. Just the day
before, the French signed a peace treaty and were no longer involved with World War II. The Battle of
Britain was the air battle between Germany and Britain for control over Great Britain s air space. This
happened during July 1940 to May 1941, with the heaviest fighting from July to October 1940.
Winston Churchill was trying to negotiate with Adolf Hitler. The Germans were trying to control the
English Channel to invade Britain as part of Operation Sea Lion . Once they had control of this
Channel, the British Navy could not attack The German barges. The British Navy was headed for Kent
and Sussex beaches. Churchill knew he would succeed only if Britain was superior when fighting in
the air. It was the British Royal Air Force (RAF) Fighters vs. the German Luftwaffe and for the first
time ever, the battle was in the air.
Under the leadership of Air Marshall Hugh Dowding, Britain had strong air command with the trained
pilots and superior equipment. The RAF main fighter planes were called Supermarine Spitfire and
Hawker Hurricane. The British had lost some of their best trained fighters in the war against France
and they were not replaced but they still remained strong. The Germans, however, had suffered greater
losses when they fought in Western Europe.

Question 1: In what ways has Jeff Immelt redirected the strategy of GE?
In 2001, shortly after Jeff Immelt became the CEO of GE, a series of events changed and impacted the
corporate landscape. The immediate challenges that he faced included 9/11, and a subsequent series of
high profile corporate scandals (Enron, WorldCom). In 2008, the financial crisis hit and had a severe
impact on GE s primary growth source, GE Capital causing it to accumulate bad debts and asset write

and more global competitors.

At the heart of Immelt s growth strategy for General Electric s was the development of new Growth
Platforms, which could be either extensions of the existing businesses or entire new commercial areas.
Even though Immelts core focus was on organic growth, repositioning to take advantage of the
emerging market trends and opportunities would require acquisition. Then once a new Growth
Platform was identified, GE would build a leading position in those sectors through small strategic
acquisitions and the deployment of its financial, technical and managerial resources.
GE was entering a new generational era, one where technology is at the forefront of growth and
adaptation. Immelt identified Technology as one of GE s major drivers for future growth which was
signaled by his expansion of GE s R D budgets. He shifted the importance of Technology within GE
by focusing on the R D projects that offered large scale market potential, reffered to as Imagination

The Hot Topic of the Immigration Issue Essay examples
Immigrants built America into the country it is today. Some were fleeing persecution in their own
countries. The immigrants came as free individuals, indentured servants, or slaves. Most came here to
pursue a better life. America welcomed those individuals, and it has a process in place for those
wishing to gain legal citizenship. The immigration issue is a hot topic in the United States today and
concerns individuals who are entering the country illegally. Our representatives are proposing new
laws to limit access to our country through other than legal means. There are strong feelings on each
side.
The opponents to illegal immigration believe that the cost to Americans is too high. According to this
group, the undocumented ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
They are reaping the benefits, without paying the price required by our laws. We are even providing
access to government and private industry information in a language, other than English, for this
segment of individuals. In past times, immigrants transacted business and interactions outside the
family in English, the language of our Country. Today, people who translate Spanish are highly sought
after in government and the private sector. If you enter a hospital, there will be someone to interpret
for you, or the forms will be in Spanish. If you enter a fast food restaurant, the wet floor signs are in
English and Spanish. At no time in our history have these concessions been made to other immigrants.
The proponents to accepting these illegal immigrants and granting them citizenship believe that the
undocumented workers provide a vital asset to our nation s economy. Bardow suggests that many
immigrants help to create jobs and drive innovation. According to employers with entry level
positions, the American labor force is unwilling to work at those positions. Nor, will they accept the
salaries paid to undocumented workers. Proponents are also sympathetic to the quality of life the
immigrants are experiencing in their home countries, the costs they must incur to reach our country,
and the contributions these workers are making in our homes and businesses. An article in Pro/Con
states that although the wages for low skilled worker go down , but the rest

Aluminum Bats vs. Wooden Bats Essay
Aluminum Bats vs. Wooden Bats
Is baseball America s pastime? For the major leaguers maybe, but for college athletes it seems more
like a new age video game. The introduction of high dollared aluminum bats produce football like
scores, higher statistics, and a percentage of danger to each and every player on the field. The NCAA
has changed the regulations of the bats so far and should look further into to making another change to
wooden bats.
High tech aluminum baseball bats aren t quite as new to the game as many people may think. Author,
Patrick Hruby, wrote in Sports Illustrated, introduced in the mid 1970 s... metal bats have become
increasingly potent, forged with alloys... pressurized air chambers (Hruby 42). Over the ... Show more

Besides the velocity of the ball coming off of the bat there is also the reaction time to look at. Baseball
Rules Committee believe that a collegiate pitcher needs approximately .4 seconds to react and move to
avoid being struck...a pitcher is between 51 and 52 feet away from the point of impact between the bat
and ball at the time of impact (3). Dempsey also states that at 94 mph the ball will travel 52 feet in
approximately .371 seconds... with high power aluminum bats speeds well in excess of 100 mph the
ball will travel 52 feet in .354 seconds... at 110 mph, a ball will travel 52 feet in .321 seconds (3).
Baseball bats aren t the only things that are changing; in fact it is the aluminum bats that are changing
the game. If you asked players who only played with wooden bats, like the legendary Babe Ruth,
Mickey Mantle, or even Willie Keeler they would all say that these aluminum bats are taking away
from the real game of baseball. These Hall of Fame players aren t the only ones thinking that it takes
away from the game, Bill Thurston, Amherst College s baseball coach said All you have to do is talk
to pro scout,...They think the college game is ridiculous (Hruby 42). They think that it is ridiculous
because the bats that collegiate players use are helping turn baseball scores into football like scores. A
perfect example of this is the 1998 season During the

Why Restaurant Will Order Fewer Calories When Provided...
Q2
2a) According to the first study, diners underestimate the calories in their foods. The experiment that I
carried out also proved that the average diner underestimates their food. Even those who said that they
were comfortable with determining how many calories were in an item, tended to fall behind by a
couple hundred calories, which is something that the study concluded.
2b)
Study#2
The main objective of study #2 was to prove that diner will order fewer calories when provided with a
menu that has nutritional labeling. To carry out the experiment, a team led by Amy Auchinncloss, PhD
from Drexel University School of Public Health, surveyed 648 customers at 7 different restaurants.

Afterwards, the diners who were given the standard menus ordered an average 817 calories, the ones
with the calorie printed menus ordered an average of 765 calories, and the ones with the traffic light
symbols had 696 calories on average. While this might not seem like a huge difference, cutting back
121 per day can lead to a one pound weight loss.
Study #4
The main goal of study #4 was to evaluate the impact food labeling has on the amount of food people
eat and their calories. To assess this, 303 participants were randomly assigned to either a restaurant
that had menu with no calorie information, a restaurant with calorie labels, or a restaurant with a menu
with calorie information as well as the recommended amount of daily calories for an adult. The study
found that people who ordered off of the menus with calorie information ended up ordering less than
their counterparts as well as ate less food throughout the day. Overall, the people who were given the
menus with calorie labels ordered 124 less calories and the people given the calorie labels plus the
information ordered 203 calories less than those who had regular menus. Afterwards, the people who
were given the standard menu consumed 1630 calories, the ones with the calorie labels had 1625
calories, and the ones given calorie

You ve got your typical movie post apocalyptic America, full of billboard ruins and dead skeletons in ruined cars. Our supposed protagonist, Denzel Washington walks around this post apocalyptic time killing cats for food and their cosmetic properties and scoring precious commodities like shoes and wet wipes off of dead bodies. However was the killing of the cat a symbolic situation? This is because the feline is looked upon as a feminine pet and he murders it so brutally then eats it. He camps in abandoned houses and makes friends with rats to break up the boredom. Though, as bad as things are, he still has a working music. The music humanized his Denzel ... • 4. The Privilege Of Attending The Bush House Museum I had the privilege of attending the Bush House Museum here in Salem. I went on Sunday November 20, 2016 and wanted to go because the house was built in the Victorian era. I ve always been quite intrigued with the Victorian era overall. That includes architecture, people, and the culture. The Bush House belonged to Asahel Bush II (1824 1913) became editor and publisher of The Oregon Statesman newspaper in 1851, and later served as state printer. He lived in the house with Eugenia Zieber Bush (1833 1863) and his four children, Estelle (1856 1942), Asahel (1858 1953), Sally (1860 1946) and Eugenia (1862 1932). Later in 1863, Bush s wife died at age 39 with Tuberculosis and so the children only lived with him after that while later moving forth with their own lives as adults. However, I have declined to provide a ticket due to this following reason: my good colleague, Karen Howard and I got lost trying to locate the Bush House Museum. We finally arrived at 1:20 and graciously waited for the tour guide to come to the door after we rang the bell. She came out and we explained to her that we lost our way in trying to find the house. We told her we intended to come for the 1pm tour. Thankfully, we did not have to wait for the 2pm tour and she took us right in. After, we finished the guided tour, she said we did not even need to come back and prove to her that we bought tickets, she said we simply needed to pay the admission price at the nearby art gallery. To establish himself as a separate person, Bush did his best to publicly distance from his families privilege life. Although this in did not apply to all aspects of his presidency, Bush handled both foreign and domestic affairs in a way he thought to be most successful for the nation. Entering into his first term as President, Bush had some domestic changes. He severed America s ties with international health programs that penalized the practice of abortion and limited government funding to go towards embryonic stem cells research. While the disuse of abortion and embryonic stem cells was viewed as successful by the unborn child, it angered many Americans, especially knowing that scientists believed the cure to Parkinson s and Alzheimer s diseases could be found through embryonic stem cells. To the pleasure of oil companies, Bush advocated for a new oil exploration of the coast of Alaska in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge and allowed his Vice President to negotiate his administration s energy policy with large oil companies during closed door meetings. However, this and a number of other harmful acts angered environmentalists, including the rejecting Kyoto Treaty which would have limited greenhouse gas emissions. The efficiency of both the internal and the external communication determine the success of a given organization. As such, use of the most effective means of communication is fundamental to the success of organizations (Benson, 2016). In this excerpt, an examination of the benefits and shortcomings of using social media as well as having kick off meetings will be analyzed. Think of a time that social media was used on a project. Describe what was used and the purpose of communication (inform, persuade, motivate, interact, inspire). What were the benefits and challenges of using that social media? Citing a case in context, our organization aimed at motivating people to participate in a corporate social responsibility (CSR) program. The members of the workforce were to attend a tree planting event. However, much of the members were opposed to the idea as they preferred attending a team building retreat. Therefore, the communication department was charged with the duty of motivating the members to develop a positive attitude towards the corporate social responsibility (CSR) event. Therefore, the communication team consistently posted positive effects of participating in CSR. They can reproduce without the help of humans; however, that does not give humans the right to use them as a natural resource. It is a failure to not treat them with respect. One of the main concerns for defending hunting is that it is not different than what wildlife does to each other. The rights view sees that animals not moral agents, and have different morals than what humans have. Then only have to kill what they need to. The way Ishmael explains it, is more about a difference of cultures. Able represents the Leaver culture, while Cain is a part of the Taker culture. If humans look at the story from the Taker perspective, they see how it is a perspective in the bible. The story makes more sense if it looked from a Leavers perspective. • 12. Reflection Of Cooperative Learning An important skill for students to develop in school is collaboration. During this course, I learned more in depth knowledge about students working with others within a concept called cooperative learning. Cooperative learning is one of three goal structures associated with motivation. The three structures are cooperative, competitive, and individualistic. Though all three are used to motivate students to achieve goals, I believe cooperative is the most ideal goal structure for student development. As a future educator, I want my own students to have those same experiences that I have had and cooperative learning is a perfect way to motivate the development of collaborative skills. The fifth and final concept I found to be enlightening throughout the semester was the concept of divergent thinking versus convergent thinking. Divergent thinking is a type of thinking, whose goal is to come up with numerous unique and original ideas. One of the most common aspects of divergent thinking is brainstorming. This is frequently used within school and many other domains in order to come up with a large amount of ideas or topics at once. To contrast, convergent thinking is a type of thinking that focuses on finding a specific answer. Convergent thinking is used for situations where there is only one answer such as how many presidents there have been or how many states there are in America. Divergent thinking is more often used for open ended questions or to come up with completely new ideas. Divergent thinking is also a method of thinking that enhances student creativity. When in the midst of divergent thinking, a person is supposed to defer their judgment of ideas until later and create the most off the wall ideas possible. I especially enjoyed learning about divergent and convergent thinking because I had not realized there were various types of thinking. I had believed people could decide to be creative ... • 13. Music and Poetry Music and Poetry The poetry of William Wordsworth initiated the Romantic Era by emphasizing emotion, intuition, and pleasure rather than form and affectation. His poems set the stage for John Keats, a central figure in early 19th century Romanticism. The fundamental themes in the works of both poets include: the beauty of nature; the consanguinity of dreams/visions and reality and yet the tendency of dreams to mask reality; the intense emotions brought about by beauty and/or suffering; and the transience of both sensation and human life. Although William Wordsworth and John Keats wrote poetry with entirely different senses of purpose, they came together in the worship of a song that each found in nature. Both Wordsworth and Keats ... Wordsworth s persona in The Solitary Reaper explores the limitations of language as he watches the maiden in the field, enthralled by her melancholy strain (6). Unable to know of what she sings, he is forced to rely only on musical characteristics to influence his reaction. Such things as tone, quality, audible key, and tempo make it possible for one to grasp the essence of music. Although the maiden s words flow from her lips in Gaelic, the persona is able to identify the emotions underlying her song from the melodic nature of the lines she sings. Will no one tell me what she sings? Perhaps the plaintive numbers flow For old, unhappy, far off things . . . Or is it some more humble lay, Familiar matter of to day? Some natural sorrow, loss, or pain, That has been, and may be again? Whate er the theme, the maiden sang As if her song could have no ending; (lines 17 25) Wordsworth s persona s reliance on the melancholy sound of the maiden s song also forces him to open his mind and his ears, leaving him free from any possible language based influence and entirely enraptured by the sheer loveliness of the lass s simple, soul filled music. This quote made by Gene encapsulates the major role World War II plays in A Separate Peace. John Knowles, the author, utilizes the war as a spectacular backdrop for his novel. In fact, without World War II, this book would just be another story lost in the churn of the millions of novels published. A Separate Peace, which would lack an external conflict, have only a paucity of symbolisms and connections, and suffer from a lack of explanation for many of the character s actions, would need to be completely rewritten or scratched altogether. Probably the most obvious of these characters who were impacted by the World War II was Leper. The innocent of the class, Leper never knew what he was getting into when he enlisted to ski in the war. Leper s life is then turned upside down, and he goes completely crazy. Without the war, Leper s character would need to be developed in some alternative way. Brinker also completely changes and manipulates his actions as a consequence of this war. Known formerly as the most responsible, respectable leader on campus at Devon, Brinker morphs into a character that seems particularly indifferent and downright rebellious. Knowles indirectly characterizes him through Gene s thoughts, mentioning that Brinker the Lawgiver had turned rebel for the Duration (122). It is very difficult for one to say that without the war, Brinker would select the path of rebellion, rather than stay serious and have a possibly brighter future. Finally, Gene is not only affected by his internal struggles but also the struggle that is going on overseas as he completes his years at Devon. This same question that was asked of Peter and the disciples speaks within the heart of each person we share the Gospel message with. There comes a point, at the crux of our catechesis, where the question, Who is Jesus? needs to be answered. At the heart of catechesis we find, in essence, a Person, the Person of Jesus of Nazareth. (CT 5). This compelling statement given by Pope John Paul II in his exhortation, Catechesi Tradendae, calls catechists to always remember the purpose of catechesis. They are to help lead others, through loving example and careful communication of doctrine, to meet a real Person, the Person of Jesus Christ and foster a deeper union with the Blessed Trinity. To proclaim the message of Jesus Christ is vital to an organic catechesis. As catechists, it is our vocation to bring others to know of the personal relationship that God is seeking to have with each one of them. A relationship in any facet of the human life requires conversation through both listening and responding. Our catechesis should be no different. As Pope Francis states in Evangelii Gaudium, It is the message capable of responding to the desire for the infinite which abides in every human heart (EG 165).
