Eudragit Polymers Be Selected As A Carrier For Fabrication...
Eudragit RS and RL 100 polymers have been selected as a carrier for fabrication of nanofibers due
to their nice stability, biocompatibility, and nice adhesion over skin due to excellent swelling
property, and presence of surface charge. These charges can facilitate prolonged residence time and
adhesion over targeted site (Haznedar et al, 2004). Their combination customize drug release,
moreover presence of quaternary ammonium compound further check reoccurrence of microbial

It has also been reported to distort the hyphae and to stunt mycelial growth in susceptible
organisms. The research on graphene scaffold for wound dressing and cell culture is a relatively
new direction that deserves special attention. Enormous studies in this field so far demonstrated
that graphene is antibacterial (Akhavan et al, 2010), accelerate the growth (Kalbacova et al,
2010), differentiation (Nayak et al, 2011), and proliferation of mammalian cells (Ryoo et al,
2010), and hence hold great potential in tissue engineering, regenerative medicine and other
biomedical fields. Graphene is selected as an effective nanocarrier due to its potential for crossing
the plasma membrane and promoting the cellular uptake of pathogen at infected site. Andre Geim
and Konstantin Novoselov were awarded the Nobel Prize for their meticulous work in 2010 for
ground breaking experiments regarding the two dimensional material graphene as monocrystalline
graphitic films (Novoselov et al, 2004, Yang et al, 2008). Graphene has unique hierarchical and
physicochemical properties including a high surface area (2630 m2/g), extraordinary electrical and
thermal conductivity (mobility: 20,000 cm2V 1 s 1) through the pie electron cloud makes graphene
a promising material in conducting composites and quantum electronics (Bolotin et al, 2008,
Morozov et al, 2008) and also possess strong mechanical strength (~1100 Gpa (Lu et al,

Comparing Dracula And The Dearg-Due By Bram Stoker
Dracula still maintains a strong connection to modern day readers through its similarities to
female vampire myths from Europe, most of them including the male characters dominating the
females. The Dearg Due, an Irish vampire, is an example of a creature similar to those in Stoker
s novel. According to Kim, an author on Got Ireland, the Dearg Due is a legendary beauty, with
blood red lips and pale blonde hair, however, before turning into a monster, she had been given to
a cruel man and suffered terrible mental and physical abuse at the hands of her new husband. 1 As
a mortal, she had no influence on her life, and was married off to a abominable man just so her
power hungry father could earn more money and a higher social status.... Show more content on

Stoker s character Dracula may have extraordinary powers, but he also has many weaknesses,
leaving him with a vulnerable aspect. Van Helsing explains that there are ways to defeat the
Count such as: the garlic that we know of... this symbol, my crucifix... [and] the branch of wild
rose on his coffin (Stoker 256, XVIII).2 Dracula is powerless when faced by these objects, giving
Van Helsing and his group the chance to destroy him. These items are able to block off a vampires
powers and protect citizens from the attacks. Similarly, the Baobhan Sith, a banshee like vampire
from the Scottish Highlands, also has weaknesses. They like to prey on unsuspecting travelers,
mostly men, who wish for female company. As stated on Real Unexplained Mysteries, in a myth
about the Baobhan Sith, it is stated that they will dance with men and then start to shriek
uncontrollably... and suddenly attack, but in the story, one man gets lucky and is able to run away
between two of the horses... to seek refuge between as they were all wearing iron horseshoes. 3 The
Baobhan Sith are afraid of iron and are unable to get past it. Both creatures, Count Dracula and the
Baobhan Sith, are powerful, but also have weaknesses that prevent them from hurting people. These
features make the characters more authentic and allow the

Evidence Asimov Analysis
Robots coexisting in the human world can be beneficial to many people s lives by allowing
tasks to be performed at a much faster rate. By Google definition robots are machines capable of
carrying out a complex series of actions automatically, especially one programmable by a
computer; (especially in Science Fiction) a machine resembling a human being and able to
replicate certain human movements and functions automatically. Many people think of robots as
metal machines that come in various shapes and sizes; not machines that look and act in such
ways like a human. Robots and other alike machines are widely used across the globe. In factories,
schools, homes, hospitals... Whilst technology grows, the need for these complex machines
becomes much greater. These machines are able to perform tasks at a much greater speed,
accuracy, and complexity compared to manual labor. In Asimov s short story Evidence, a man by
the name of Stephen Byerley was in a horrific accident that should have resulted in his death. When
Stephen runs for mayor, Frances Quinn, his runner up, claims that the real Stephen Byerley, rather
than having recovered, was permanently disfigured and crippled by the accident, and the Byerley
who appears in the public is a humanoid robot, created by Stephen Byerley. Asimov mentions the

I do not believe that the short story, Evidence, is accurate in its depiction of society s treatment
of robots. In the research we have seen thus far, the acceptance of robots in today s society is
almost unknown due to the fact that many people do not realize they amount of robotics that
they already use in their daily lives. Robots are a very beneficial thing, and I do not believe that we
need a set of laws like Asimov s to govern the behavior of robots as they become more advanced...

The Hindu Varahi And Opening Mouth Ceremony
The Hindu deity Varahi and Opening Mouth Ceremony from the Book of the Dead are
figurative, using human bodies with the head of an animal to represent the deity and god,
respectively. Varahi is a female body in a relaxed position with the face of a bull. Although bulls
can be seen as aggressive, a viewer does not get this sense when looking at the statue. Instead, there
is peace represented by the held up hand and leg positioning. The content of this figure could be
that females have the potential to be as frightening as a bull, but also serene when she is not
threatened. This may have to do with fertility as well, a mother can be protective over its baby (the
bull) and loving and nurturing (the human body). Contrastingly, in the painting,

Streaming Media and Netflix
Netflix is an American company that provides video rental and on demand video streaming by
way of either the mail or streaming through the internet. The company was founded in 1997 in
Silicon Valley California by Marc Randolph and Reed Hastings. The idea for this DVD rental
service came about when Reed Hastings was charged with a late fee when rentinga movie and he
questioned why he should have a time restriction on how long he is able to rent the movie. In April
of 1998, the Netflixwebsite was launched and they developed the concept of unlimited rentals with
no shipping fees or late fees. In September of 2002, an article in The New York Times article

They decided to go back on what they said and decided they were going to keep all their services

representative for the company was quoted saying, We underestimated the appeal of the single

Social Contradictions Of Poverty
Poverty does not solely pertain to individuals without the money to sustain themselves. Rather,
poverty refers to the conditions of individuals or groups of people who only possess limited means
to have and raise their children, care for their loved ones, maintain households, or contribute to their
communities. In Contradictions of Capitaland Care, Nancy Fraser identifies these social needs as the
key capacities of social reproduction that are necessary for culture, political organization, and the
creation of self expanding value via economic production. Individuals lose these social capacities
due to the contradiction between economic production and social reproduction that is inherent in
capitalism; once these capacities are lost, individuals remain stuck in the cycle of povertybecause of
their limited abilities within the existing societal structures and hierarchies that subjugate them. The
only way to significantly reduce and eventually end poverty is thus to restructure society, so that
social reproduction and economic production are no longer contradictory and are recognized as
inter dependent spheres.
While poverty has numerous causes that create and reinforce it, the central cause of poverty is the
contradiction between social reproduction and economic production. In capitalist society, economic
production outweighs social reproduction, simply because economic production brings in money,
which is what gives individuals purchasing power and the ability to

The Collapse of the Westgate Bridge, Located in Melbourne,...
This report goes into detail the collapse of the Westgate Bridge, located in Melbourne, Australia.
What was meant to be a bridge that joined two sides of the city of Melbourne, lead to Australia s
worst workplace disaster in history, with a death toll of 35. Included in this report is a history of
the planning of the bridge, the events that lead to the collapse, as well as the collapse itself and
how it happened. Also covered are the ethical issues portrayed by the companies working on the
construction of the Westgate Bridge. I. INTRODUCTION On the 15th October, 1970, during its

The new contractors were very experienced at working with concrete, but lacked the knowledge
and experience with working with steel. Because of this, John Holland only took on the work on
the basis of a labour management contract, which puts them in charge of the labour, but all the
engineering decisions were still up to World Service Constructions. This lead to confusion and
lack of communication between the parties working on the construction of the bridge. Four
months prior to the collapse, a similar design of bridge, also designed by Freeman Fox Partners,
collapsed in Milford Haven, Wales, killing four workers. Understandably, there was a lot of
industrial unrest on the construction site of the Westgate Bridge, although workers had been
assured by Freeman Fox Partners that the design of the Westgate was perfectly safe, but was not
supported by any relevant or sufficient calculations. IV.THE COLLAPSE During the construction,
two half spans being assembled 50 meters above ground level had a misalignment of 4.5 inches or
114mm in camber. It was suggested by John Holland Constructions to use a kentledge to weigh
down the higher section of bridge. It so happened that they had ten, eight tonne concrete blocks on
site. These were placed halfway along the higher span to

The Invention of the Automobile Essay
Since the development of the steam engine people had been interested in creating self powered
vehicles, this manifested during the industrial revolution as the train. However, as time went on
people became interested in creating a vehicle that wasn t confined to tracks. The earliest attempts
were moderately successful but served little practical purpose. Automobiles first began to truly
spread with the invention of the electric motor which created cheaper, more powerful, and safer
automobiles. Still the automobilestill had numerous problems and were mainly in the hands of the

Many other people continued the development and improvement of electric automobiles and for a
time electric automobiles were the preferred type of Automobile because of their quiet ride, quick
start up, and lack of pollution. In fact electric automobiles held the land speed record well into the
early 1900 s. However, they began to decline in the early 1900 s because of the increased
prevalence and efficiency of the internal combustion engine.
The invention and use of the internal combustion engine was a pivotal point in the history of the
automobile. The first attempt at an internal combustion engine was in 1673 by Christian Huygens,
using gunpowder as the fuel source, though it was basically worthless as you had to open the
engine up and put new gunpowder in it after every single stroke ( The Fuel Engine ). This lack of a
fuel for internal combustion engines sidelined its development for a couple hundred years. In 1860
Jean Joseph Etienne Lenoir built the first effective internal combustion engine using natural gas
(Bottorff). The ignition of the gas would create a vacuum and the resulting pressure difference
between the vacuum and the atmosphere would drive the power stroke (Bottorff). This gas
atmospheric engine, as it is known, was an effective system capable generating 20hp, still it was
imperfect. It was further improved with the development

Stereotypes In The Babysitter
For this week s blog I ve decided to discuss the two dichotomizing views of women portrayed in
the first thirty minutes of the horror comedy movie The Babysitter. This horror comedy Netflix
original movie tells the story of Cole, a young teenager who is one of the last of his age to still
have a babysitter. The film presents two schemas of women in American society: the first as the
sexy, young, promiscuous babysitter and the other as the suburban superwoman. The superwoman
stereotype is defined by Harris and Sanborn as the portrayal of women who appear to handle the
demands of career, marriage, and parenting with amazingly little stress and difficulty (Harris
Sanborn, 2014, p. 81).
The movie s discussion of the babysitter as being ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I think the effect of the portrayals of women in this film will have different effects depending on
the audience. From the babysitter portrayal girls and young women may learn a particular script
about what a babysitter should be and/or do. Older women, may compare themselves to the script of
attractiveness the babysitter embodies and find themselves lacking.
For the superwoman portrayal, women in similar positions may see how easy the mom in this film
makes fulfilling these obligations look and again may find themselves lacking in comparison. Both
young girls and older women could see this portrayal of the superwoman as the societal average of
what a woman should be able to achieve. This could lead young girls to place an expectation on
themselves in future. Overall, I found little in these two depictions of women to be supportive of a
positive portrayal of women in the

sub zero temperatures. Clay, the man from Up the Slide , is a young man who is outgoing and

Clay is energetic, outgoing, and determined. He is determined to reach the top of the slide where

The Economic Factors Of Slave Labor In The 1600s In America
In Virginia, the Chesapeake Bay area during the 1600s the slave community evolved over a long
period of time. Problems occurred regarding their labor that had an important influence on the
switch to a society dominated by slave labor. During the 1600s labor in the Chesapeake shifted
to slave society because of a shift in culture, economic issues, and frustrations of the tobacco
market boom. Each of these reasons all relates back to the labor problem the colonists were
facing in Virginia. As mentioned above, one of the reasons that shifted the Chesapeake Bay area
into a slave society was a shift in culture. In the early decades, people s economic status was an
important identifier for what benefits they could receive, or what they could and could not do.
Later in the century, this all changes. Anthony Johnson, who is African, arrives in the Chesapeake
in 1621. When Anthony arrived, he was considered unfree and worked in a tobacco field with both
whites and blacks since at this time economic status was still the main identifier for individuals.
Anthony Jackson was considered an unusual or lucky man for many reasons. In fact, some of the
reasons that made him incredibly lucky was that he did not die from diseases unlike other people in
the Chesapeake, he finds a female companionship who also survives, and in 1630 Anthony buys
both his and his wife s freedom. In addition, another unusual thing about Anthony was that in 1640
he becomes a plantation owner. Strangely enough, on

The Importance Of Economic Development
Economic Development is extremely important in First Nation s communities as it is necessary for
the development of First Nations economy and helps the community members as a whole.
Economic development begins with a strong relationship between community members. Indigenous
worldview and the Western worldviews are incredibly different. This may lead to a shaky
relationship between First Nationspeople and the Westernized economy. First Nation s leadership is
important and Indigenous run businesses would be a great way of fueling the economy. This can
be done through with the proper on reserve courses and education needed. Partnering with
Westernized companies and organizations will only successfully work if they are willing to look at
the Indigenous worldview and understand and also incorporate these views into their organizations
/companies.
Not only are there major differences in worldviews between Indigenous people and European
people, but also the lasting impacts of policy within Canada have had a major impact on First
Nations people and the economy. According to MacKinnon (2000), Canada s history of colonial
policies has left a legacy of damage and despair that has had a direct impact on the social and
economic outcomes of Aboriginal people (sec. 1). Economic development has a huge impact on the
community as a whole. It not only looks after the economy, it also looks at the overall wellbeing of
the community members. Naturally, First Nations people are not going to

Analysis Of The Lansdowne Athlete By Lysippos
Ancient sculptures bring on endless philosophical arguments regarding what is an appropriate
form of perfection, defined as a fit body guided by a keen mind. This paper will approach a
visual essence of the sculpture of The Lansdowne Athlete, by Lysippos, Rome 340 330 B.C.
marble after a bronze original, that I viewed at the LACMA. This sculptureis located in the left
wing of Greek exhibition Building, 3rd floor. I selected this sculpture as an example of an
idealized body. Therefore, I will be explaining the historical background of the sculpture and
address why I think it would make a good addition to our text. I will provide an analogy with
other sculpture of idealized body from our textbook chapter 12 on Mind and Body mainly. I will
impart more information about the essence of idealized human form as well as cultural ideals
during this time period in Greece.
The Lansdowne Athlete at the LACMA is an example of a well developed ideal body and
carefully controlled proportions to all body parts. This sculpture is a Roman copy of an original
by Lysippos made in the 1st century. It is a marble statue of 75 inches in height. The figure is in
the contrapposto stance common of the style at the time and is taking a step forward. The figure
still has integrity even though it has a few missing parts. Its face, which is important, is more or
less intact and the standing upright with its impression of movement still visible. The missing arms,
if they were restored would not add much to the sculpture and the addition of these parts will not be
worth the loss of authenticity.
Visiting LACMA for many years, I never noticed that ancient art has been disbanded, I was
surprised! The Greek and Roman sculptures now stand in the galleries of European art. The ancient
statues and vases are now part of the post antique paintings, sculpture, and decorative arts of the
European Art. From my skepticism, however, I have completely converted to the curators way of
thinking: the pairing of old and new art, really works! It brings out content, form, and even artistic
style that would otherwise be lost. In the other hand, the sheer visual variety of white statues with
more colorful objects is beautiful and passionate; much more than

Taking a Look at Eleanor Roosevelt
Eleanor Roosevelt is one of the most famous First Ladies in history. Although she was awkward
and shy as a child, she married Franklin Delano Roosevelt, and became an influential figure to the
world as well as an inspiration to women everywhere in her own right. Eleanor was more than a
president s wife; she was an eloquent speaker, delegate of the United Nations, and overall an
independent woman.
Anna Eleanor Roosevelt was born on October 11, 1884 in New York City. She grew up with a
wealthy family in the Manhattan boroughs. She was the sister of two younger brothers: Elliott
Jr. and Hall. Her parents, Elliott and Ann, were socialites at the top of New York s society.
Although her parents were wealthy, it did not buy them their happiness. Before Eleanor was
five, her father broke his ankle while doing somersaults for the county circus. To reduce the pain
of his injury, Elliott began drinking more heavily. Because of Elliott s moodiness and depression,
he set out to find a cure for himself. This separated him from all of his children, including
Eleanor. Without Eleanor s father with her, she became discouraged. Her only wish was to make
her father happy. Not only was Eleanor upset over Elliott leaving; Anna was as well. Anna was
furious with his decisions and started to neglect her children. Eleanor s education was disregarded,
so her mother hired her a tutor. While this was occurring, Anna was diagnosed with an unknown

Kate Bornstein Essay
Kate Bornstein is a Queer and Pleasant Danger was an incredible documentary. As someone who

such a wide array of topics to be covered I certainly didn t expect to hear about Scientology, but
Kate Bornstein and Sam Feder didn t seem to shy away from any aspect of the former s life. One
of the most interesting parts of the film for me involved Bornstein s interactions with presentist
queer activists through Twitter and her blog posts. She doesn t shy away from discussing how her
use of the term tranny upsets a great majority of her younger audience. In the film, Bornstein
claims that her use of tranny marks her as transphobic to plenty of queer folks. Differences
between Bornstein s perspective and modern transphobia is discussed yet again when Bornstein is
speaking with a friend who slips and uses the wrong pronouns Bornstein lightly teases them, saying
that if the wrong audience had heard him misgender her, they would have called him transphobic.
There isn t much I can say about how I feel about whether or not Bornstein is in the wrong that s
never going to be my call to make. With that in mind, though, Bornstein s insistence in regard to...

Parliaments and their members can and should be among the foremost champions of child

Historic Perspective
The end of the 19th century saw a raising concern with the cruelty inflicted to children by their
guardians, that was expressed in the public campaigns carried out by the National Society for the
Prevention of Cruelty to Children . This, together with the progressive intervention of the state into

Ozymandias
Percy and Mary Shelley were the power couple in the world of literature. (Mary Poovey). The
Shelley family was well known in Europe, not only for their affair, but for their poetry and
stories. Mary Shelley wrote Frankenstein or A Modern Prometheus. While Percy Shelley
published multiple poems. Three of those poems that had a substantial impact on society are
Ozymandias, To a Skylark, and Ode to the West Wind. There s multiple messages in each of
these, however one message from each sticks out more than the rest. The three messages from
Ozymandias, To a Skylark, and Ode to the West Wind are that everyone fades from history, one
idea could spark a fire of curiosity, and that bad things are followed by good things. The first
message is from Ozymandias, and it is that everyone s name will eventually fade from history.
The poem is about a man who visits egypt and finds a sunken statue in the middle of the desert. It
says the name of an old king who tells people to fear his structures and his power. However, there
is no city and everything he built was consumed by the sand. Michael Henry Scrivener, author of

Role Of Nurse Leader And Nurse Manager
Role of Nurse Leader and Nurse Manager in Nursing Shortage and Turn over
During the recent years, the American Healthcare system is struggling with the issue of the nursing
shortage and turnover. There are many rationales and reasons for this issue and the writer will
discuss some of them in this paper. Nursing shortage and turnover remarkably influenced on the
provision of the services by the health care provider, the financial burden on the healthcare facility
and also a stressful working environment for the nurses. Also, the writer will discuss and evaluate
this issue by evaluating numerous leadership and management theories and their roles. In addition
to it, will also share a personal and professional philosophy of nursing associated with this issue.
Major reasons for nursing shortage and turn over
A report, published by United State General Accounting Office mentioned that the health care
system and a long term system heavily depend on the nursing services. It also mentioned that the
extreme shortage of nurses is expected in the near future because of the baby boomers are
reaching the age of 60 s and 70 s (GAO, 2001) and due to their age related complications, they
need more assistance for hospitals, long term services, and home health care. On the contrary, The
National Council of State Boards of Nursing indicated that 55% of the Registered Nurse workforce
are around the age of 50 and older. Also, the Health Resource and Services Administration predicts

The Things They Carried by Tim O brien
The War at Home The Things They Carried, by Tim O Brien, transports the reader into the minds of
veterans of the Vietnam conflict. The Vietnam War dramatically changed Tim O Brien and his
comrades, making their return home a turbulent and difficult transition. The study, titled, The War
at Home: Effects of VietnamEra Military Service on Post War Household Stability, uses the draft
lottery as a natural experiment on the general male population. The purpose of the NBER (National
Bureau of Economic Research) study is to determine the psychological effects of the Vietnam War
on its veterans. In order to do this, they tested four conditions, marital stability, residential stability,

Norman, a strong guy, could not save him not for lack of strength, but instead because of
complete chaos around him, and the worst part [...] the smell (O Brien, 139). After the firefight

and it riddled him with self doubt. After the war, he is completely unable to tell anyone about the
incident, and the medal he should ve won, he wished he could have explained some of this. How
he had been braver than he ever thought possible, but how he had not been so brave as he

Lord Of The Flies Revenge Quotes
Revenge is a common concept, and has been incarnated in many different ways throughout
history; there s the concept of an eye for an eye, which implies that the person taking revenge
does it by themself, and, on the other end, there s the concept of karma, which implies that
another force will exact revenge for the person who wants it. No matter the idea, however, the
concept is always the same: a person who has wronged another gets wronged to the same extent.
Revenge can become excessive, though, and can lead to the corruption of a person s morals and
ideals. In his novel The Lord of the Flies, William Golding demonstrates how a person s wish for
revenge can easily corrupt them. Golding demonstrates this using the character Jack, who,
throughout the book, is motivated by spite and a wish for revenge. In the... Show more content on

Foil Characters In Romeo And Juliet
William Shakespeare is the greatest playwright in the history of the world, and one of his most
famous tragedy plays is Romeo and Juliet. Romeo and Juliet by William Shakespeare is about
two star crossed lovers Romeo Montague and Juliet Capulet. Their families are in a feud and
brawls have taken place between these two families. Romeo s personality can be viewed
differently from different parts of the play with the other characters he is around. At one point of
the play he can be seen as a positive, tranquil man and the next moment later he is a vicious,
stubborn person. Using foils Romeo s character is developed by contrasting through Friar
Laurence s wise personality, Balthasar s loyal personality, and Benvolio s peaceful personality.
Friar Laurence develops Romeo s character through his wise personality making Romeo look
stubborn. Romeo demonstrates as being stubborn when he finds out he is banished and is willing
to kill himself by saying, Wert thought as young as I, Juliet thy love, an hour but married, Tybalt
murdered, doting like me and like me banished, then mightst thou speak, then mightst thou tear thy
hair, and fall upon the ground, as I do now, taking the measure of an unmade grave man (3.3.65

Taking a Look at Harp Lager
1. Brand History.
Harp lager was launched in 1960. It was first brewed in the Great Northern Brewery in Dundalk.
The drink was created under the guidance of Dr. Herman Muender who fused German beer
knowledge with Irish brewing heritage. Harp which is now owned by the drinks company
Diageo fast became the most popular lager brand in Ireland. When it was launched it was
marketed as a new modern drink that would appeal to young males and females alike. It was a
sister brand of Guinness which was associated with older men in the country. Slogans used in the
initial marketing campaigns included Have you heard the call yet and Brewed in Ireland naturally
evoking a sense of pride in the home brewed beer during the troubles in the country. It became
the first mass marketed draught lager in Ireland and the UK. Harp remained successful through
the 80s and into the 90s when some of its advertisements helped launch the careers of TV
personalities such as Jonathan Ross. However, the brand never reached the same success it had
in the 70s when it held the majority of the market share. The brand was re launched in 1994
coinciding with the World Cup, sales rose by 12%. However this re launch didn t result in
continued consumer loyalty and this boost soon subsided. Last year Diageo Ireland launched a
new look for Harp larger with the aim to increase the brands relevance to larger drinkers. The new
design was inspired by the Samuel Beckett bridge in Dublin the new look was meat to be

Exposing the Truth in Sweetheart of the Song Tra Bong
Dear Mom and Dad: The war that has taken my life, and many thousands of others before me, is
immoral, unlawful, and an atrocity, (letter of anonymous soldier qtd. In Fussell 653).
Tim O Brien, a Vietnam war vet, had similar experiences as the soldier above. Even though O
Brien didn t die, the war still took away his life because a part of him will never be the same.
Even in 1995, almost thirty years after the war, O Brien wrote, Last night suicide was on my mind.

Calley and Charlie Company, we find out that the truth was worse than the stories. From the facts
from the trial, we learn that there were anywhere from 343 504 fatalities and. that [t]he crimes
visited on the inhabitants of Son My Village included individual and group acts of murder, rape,
sodomy, maiming, assault on noncombatants and the mistreatment and killing of detainees, (
Col. Wilson as qtd in Vietnam 562). You might think that what happened in My Lai was the
worst of it all, but O Brien says that, Wreckage was the rule. Brutality was S.O.P. (566). Because
the war was so confusing and because the soldiers couldn t tell who the enemy was, many felt
that, the army had no solution but to kill people, uniformed or not, old or young, male or female,
proven Viet Cong or not, (Fussell 654). To me this is how some tried to justify killing but still
some just couldn t make themselves feel as if they were justified.
The result of this guilt for the soldiers, psychologically, is that some of them seemed to go insane.
For instance, at the trial, one of the soldiers of Charlie Company, Paul Meadlo said this about why
he killed; he thought that the babies and children might attack: [t]hey might have had a fully loaded
grenade on them. The mothers might have throwed them at us (Vietnam 563). For some soldiers,

It is true that both John and Mary fall in love and enter symbiotic relationship. However, just
because the reader gets a cookie cutter happy ending that doesn t necessarily mean that it is the
best ending. For instance, story A, the happy ending, is very short compared to the other stories. It
dose not give the reader enough time to form a connection to the characters before they die. While
on the other hand, story B, the sadder ending, is much longer and gives the reader a connection to
the character Mary.
Story B is the sadder ending and focuses more on Mary. The relationship between Mary and
John is far from happy. Mary does absolutely everything for John. Mary cooks, cleans, and even
lets john have his way with her. John doesn t even acknowledge all the sacrifice that Mary puts
into their relationship. Not only dose John show no affection towards Mary, He gives it all his
affection to another woman he sees behind Mary s back. The drama of the whole situation is too
much to bear for Mary. Mary devises a plan to overdose on all of her household medicine and
have John take her to the hospital. Sadly John doesn t even care enough to take her to the hospital.

Scorching A Laminate Kitchen Counter
Laminate kitchen counters are easy to burn or scorch with a hot pan. To avoid damaging your
kitchen counter top, you should always use a trivet. However, if an accident does occur, you
can try a few different methods to fix the burn on a laminate kitchen counter. Step 1: Create a
paste with baking soda and water. Use steel wool to work the paste into the burned area, and lift
the stain. TIP: If a baking soda paste will not lift the stain on the counter, try using Ajax or Comet
and water to create a paste to attempt to lift the stain. Step 2: Use a sponge and water to remove
the paste after you have finished scrubbing. Dry the area with a rag. Step 3: Buff the kitchenwith

Sometimes you won t be able to buff the burn spot away. The pan could have burned through the
layer of laminate, making a serious mark that will not be able to be fixed by removing the burn
marks. Step 1: Fill the depression in the kitchen counter top left by the burn with two part epoxy
and a metal putty knife. Clean the knife immediately after use. Allow the epoxy to harden for the
full time recommended by the manufacturer before continuing. TIP: Only mix enough two part
epoxy for the job, paying particular attention to the required proportions. Once mixed two part
epoxy must be used within 20 minutes: a chemical reaction, not outside air, is responsible for
epoxy hardening. Step 2: Sand the area with a fine grit sandpaper to remove any rough patches. Use
a tack cloth or soft cloth to remove any dust that was a result of the sanding. Step 3: Apply laminate
sealant to the surface of the epoxy patch and the surrounding kitchen counter to blend the sealant.
TIP: If your kitchen counter appears to be a bit worn, clean the rest of the kitchen counter
thoroughly, then apply laminate sealant to the entire surface. The sealant should restore the shine

Open and Closed Source Systems Essay
An operating system is a considered a set of programs that schedule tasks, assign storage and
presenting an interface to the user. There are many operating systems to choose from. Some are
created for personal use, some for business use, and some can be used for both. One of the biggest
differences is whether the operating system is open sourceor closed source. Operating systems are
created with programming code. Programmers are responsible for writing the source code, which
is compiled into executable code. This executable code is what creates the product ran on
computers. An open source system is a system in which the source code is visible. A closed source
system keeps the source code hidden.

Closed source systems are usually found in personal computers because the level of expertise
needed to use them is minimal. There are many factors to consider when determining which
system to use. The level of expertise of the user, the costs of the system and any add ons, and the
flexibility of the system must all be considered. The type of application also plays some role in
the decision. Both types can be found in personal, server, and mobile applications. However, open
source systems are often found more in mobile and server applications.

simply is No text is worth the risk, it can wait. Many commercials show Public Service
Announcements, about celebrities showing the risk of texting while driving and even some of their
own personal experiences with the issue. In addition, technology in cars is also being built to

The Golden Age Of The Golden Age
As comic books continue to develop, their popularity is normally underestimated in terms of
relevance, but they are more prominent than one might assume in popular culture. Comic books are
no longer seen as a primary source of entertainment in popular culture as they were during the
Golden Age (1939 1955), the period of exponential growth and prosperity of the comic book
industry. During that era, comicsserved to stimulate patriotism and gave an opportunity for
expression that appealed to the youth. In contemporary time, they provide influence and
inspiration for shows and movies alike. Two very well known comic book creators, Mr. Joe
Kavalier and Mr. Sam Clay, author and illustrator of The Escapist, brought the public insight into
how the Golden Age was a sign of right timing for their appearance in the comic book industry.
As modest as they are, they are more notably the pioneers of the Golden Age. The age of the
comic book will continue to reveal itself in more than one way and the conception of these new
ideas will give birth to a new era of content. The Golden Age of comic books is seen as the age of
prosperity for the comic industry. The Golden Age faced not just profound change and innovation
in the comic book industry, it encompassed the change of the world with World War II and rapid
innovations in technology. While superheroes fought crime, the world was fighting a war and so
was the comic book industry. With new technologies, the comic book was able to

The Four Major Approaches Of Sociocultural Evolution
Society refers to people who interact in a defined territory and share culture
(Macionis,2012,p.108). They are four major approaches that display ways in which societies
have changed over the past 10,000 years. The first approach was made by Gerhard Lenski who
talked about society in relation to changes concerning technology. Lenski uses the term
sociocultural evolution to describe such changes. Sociocultural evolution is changes that occur as
a society gains very new technology (Macionis,2012,p.88). In the earliest years, societies lived by
hunting and gathering. People made tools to hunt and gather food. Such societies were very petite
so it was easy for them to migrate whenever food was limited. Hunters and gathers spend most of
their time hunting and collecting food for them to satisfy their hunger. They depend on each other
to get their duties done. Women were responsible for vegetation and men went out to hunt. The
young children and elderly help out whenever they could. In most hunting and gathering societies
there is a leader who basically takes control but still has to go out and hunt for food. The basic
weapons used by such societies were spears, bow and arrows and stone knives. These communities
were not really prone to much danger the thing they feared the most was droughts and storms.
Gathering and hunting societies began to decrease as societies became more developed. Along the
way, societies developed horticulture, which is the use of hand tools to

How Does Genji Define Love in The Tale of Genji by...
In the epic novel written by Murasaki Shikibu during the Heian period of the Japan, the leading
character Hikaru Genji was described a nearly flawless person. The wisdom, the perfect looking,
the personal background as a prince every piece of his characteristic was the presentation of
attractive, or shining , as what Murasaki Shikibu illustrated by his name. With the qualities that
make Genji shines , as what was expected, Genji had a huge amount of romantic affairs involved
true lovethat neither men practicing monogamy nor polygamy would ever expect to approach.
However a query exists: what is love in Genji s dictionary?
In order to understand Genji s love, it is critical for us to look back upon his very beginning of
love and life, as it originates with Lady Fujitsubo during his childhood and puberty phases. Lady
Fujitsubo accompanies Genji within the process of his psychological and physical development
as the role of mother and sister; with her perfect talent and appearance plus the natural Oedipus
complex, Genji developed a deep adoration toward her. As the very first women Genji had ever
loved, Lady Fujitsubo was the one of eternity . The relationship between them had never
approached to a completion, which left Genji with regret and void throughout the rest of his life;
ever since that, his life long goal of love was to love someone that is Lady Fujitsubo. Every
woman he loved afterward had one or more parts of Lady Fujitsubo involved; the most obvious

Rape, Racism And Tom Robinson By Tom Robinsonson
Rape, racism, Robinson. This is the charge being pressed against this innocent compassionate
man. He has done nothing morally or legally wrong, but only help a woman in need. Miss
Mayella Ewells. The testimonies given today throughout the trial proves without a reasonable
doubt that this man is not guilty. The testimony given by Miss Mayella Ewell s clearly reveals
that she been not just physically, but mentally abused. Miss Mayella has been abused, but not by
Tom Robinson. A father of three children, a hardworking man, a respected member of his
community and neighborhood. A man who has the moral obligation to provide for his family,
but to guide his children through the hard paths we call life. How can you guide, teach, and
raise your precious children if you are locked away from them forever? Mr. Robinson is in a
fight not only for this life, but for his family. Unable to protect, prosper, and provide for his
family at this very moment because he is sitting here as an innocent man waiting to be told he
might never see his loved ones again. I have come to a strong conclusion that not only Tom
Robinson is a devoted man to his family, but is innocent of raping and abusing Miss Mayella. Now
the prosecution has to prove beyond all reasonable doubt that Tom Robinson is guilty of this
horrendous crime, yet prosecution has failed to provide the court with substantial evidence that
proves how, who, and why it happened. The prosecution has only made a concoction of theories

Pathology Of The Autonomic Nervous System
Introduction
In this report, the symptoms of this patient will be diagnosed, and the causes of them discussed
with reference to the physiology and pharmacology of the autonomic nervous system.
The Autonomic Nervous System
The autonomic nervous system (ANS) is the part of the motor division of the peripheral nervous
system (PNS) that controls involuntary processes in the body (Wieczorek, 2014). Such functions
include control of heart rate, gland activity, smooth muscle contraction and constriction of blood
vessels (Biology online.org, 2014). The ANS is divided into two branches, the sympathetic nervous
system (SN) and the parasympathetic nervous system (PN). The SN is responsible for the fight or
flight response, which results in increased preparedness for vigorous activity in response to
exercise or emergency. The PN acts antagonistically to the SN, in that it produces the opposite
effects to those of the SN. Under normal circumstances, the PN is dominant, and allows processes
such as digestion and defecation to occur, while also conserving energy (Elmhurst.edu, 2014). Most
of the visceral organs of the body are innervated by both sympathetic and parasympathetic neurones,
with the exceptions being sweat glands and the smooth muscle of blood vessels they are only
innervated by sympathetic nerve fibres (Wieczorek, 2014).
In the ANS, a number of different neurotransmitters and receptors are present. In both the PN and
SN, the neurotransmitter at the ganglia is

The Goals And Objectives Of The Company
What are the goals/objectives of the company in this situation? Hathaway Jones is a high end
clothing retailer that despite grossing in $5 Billion dollars in sales in 2006, hardships still
threatened the well being of the company. Fred, who had an extensive background with luxury
brands and immaculate credentials, was employed to tackle these issues and revamp the
Hathaway Jones image. His aggressive nature made him hit the ground running implementing a
cost saving outsourcing strategy which improved profit margins, merging closer to industry s
standards. Plans to redefine Hathaway s market towards younger adults, offering trendier
affordable clothes was the next task Fred wanted to deploy in efforts of changing the brands
image. Since China presented a 70% annual growth rate in luxury goods, it became a highly
attractive market for Hathaway s new image. To access the Chinese market, hefty investments
were made to open up a chain of new stores in Beijing, Guangzhou, and Shanghai. With this
project almost approaching its debut, Fred was put to the quest to recruit a winning team to handle
any and all challenges that may come by and ensure the success of this lucrative market. What is it
that the company wants to achieve? Before the company takes any action, it should be clear on
what it is trying to accomplish. Statement of Issue: What is the issue that needs to be decided in

Motives Behind Honor Killings
Some people believe that an individual s cultural background and family beliefs explain motives
behind honor killings. The cultural interpretation explains that honor killings are qualitatively
different from other kinds of murders because it is governed by the specific logic of an honour
culture . Honor killings are acceptable because they are part of a culture and support ethical
agendas. For example, in Turkey, namus represents sexual honor which overshadows women s
physical and moral qualities. Women are expected to protect their namus for their whole life. Male
kin also have a duty to watch over women and punish them if they deviate. The cultural defense is
used to explain motivations behind the defendants actions. Men believe

English Is An Indispensable Language
Language is an indispensable tool for communication. This is universally known fact. English
has become a global language in the era of globalization. It is a linkage and is used vastly in all
Indian and foreign libraries. The aim of teaching English in the secondary schools is to promote
its pupils with sufficient knowledge of English and to aid them in their future studies and build
confidence to find a suitable job. If we come to the present context, English is the language that is
found in all corners of India. Now it is the language of the global trade.

THEORETICAL OUTLOOK
The Error Analysis in Second Language Acquisitionwas recognized and named as The
significance of learner errors by Corder and his colleagues. Further Corder delineated that it has
two objectives: one is theoretical and the other is applied. The theoretical objective serves to
explain what and how a learner learns when he studies a second language. The applied objective
serves to enable the learner to learn more efficiently by exploiting our knowledge of his dialect for
pedagogical purposes (Corder, 1974:122).
As per the Encyclopedic Dictionary of Linguistics by Tim (2003) writing is the act of representing,
or the representation, of thoughts, ideas and speech by conventional material signs. Of course, the
symbols which are used need to be arranged properly to form words and then to form the
sentences with a view to communicating our ideas in an organized way. In fact, when we
communicate through writing, we have so many ideas to express for which we think in different
ways of combining and arranging them, which lead us to draft, redraft or revise and so

Globalized Islam By Olivier Roy
In Olivier Roy s book, Globalized Islam, he writes about propaganda targets individuals, not groups
as the strategy used Islamists, when elaborating a political program, targets groups, and more
precisely social groups (impoverished neo urbanites, students from the lower and middle classes,
and so on). Roy continues on to share their reasoning for the method of targeting individuals, not
groups [author s italicization]. This remains congruent with their strategy of going to the polls; an
electorate is always a collective and anonymous entity. Roy goes on to state why the new preachers
use another method. But the new preachers target individuals, for the simple reason that they do
not have a global political and social project, except implementation of sharia. In contrast he goes
on to explain how the Taliban s agenda differs. Even the Taliban, who were ruling a real country,
never cared about implementing any economic or social program, but were exclusively concerned
with sharia. Consequently, individual Muslims that relocate from their own culture to migrate to
the western world still remain well rooted in their religion despite the fact that no special
accommodations are made for their religion. No allowances are made for Muslims to abide
naturally and easily by the tenets of their religion. Hence the implementation of binding religious
obligations rests on the good goodwill of the believer, not on any external cultural pressure or a
state s legal

Race And Race Relations In The United States
Race relations in the United States have never been perfect, and with the inauguration of the
country s first black president, most people believed that race relations would improve. Then came
Ferguson. Then came Baltimore. Then came the murder of more than 350 unarmed blacks by
police officers in 2015. 35% of Americans are worried a great deal about racial relations in the
United States―double what it was in 2014 (Norman). Since information and breaking news is
so easy to share with people in this age, news of these killings spread much faster. These problems
have been around forever, but the issue has never been broadcasted on the scale it is now. US
citizens, and blacks, in particular, are upset with the current criminal justice system;

Russian Revolution Dbq
Research Question: Was the Russian Revolution a Successful Revolution?
The Russian Revolution of 1917 was unsuccessful because of how it did not accomplish the initial
goal of establishing communism, internal social and economic issues within Russia, detrimental
effects of rapid industrialisation and became the catalyst of a civil war. The defeat in war against
Japan, in 1905, led to increased opposition to the Tsar, who was viewed as incompetent. The war
was also important in intensifying and worsening longer term social and economic problems, as it
caused food shortages, high prices and unemployment the factors which motivated many to take
part in the march on the Winter palace that resulted in Bloody Sunday (Document A). The Tsar was

Due to Russia s sheer amount of citizens in the country, it resulted in a overcrowded society,
poor housing along with poor living and working conditions (created by economic problems in
Russia) led to social tension in cities. In terms of land and agriculture, the Russians had methods
that were inefficient and backwards as they still used wooden ploughs and very few animals and
tools. With not enough land to go around (due to the controlling of private property), vast
expansion of peasant population in the later half of the 19th century led to overcrowding and
competition for land. The diverse people of Russia desperately needed a social reform. With peace
established with Germany, the of lack of a compete control over the country then led to the civil
war immediately after the Bolsheviks assumed power. The Reds (communists) and the Whites (anti
communists, Capitalists, western forces) fought a series of battles that resulted in countless deaths.
The White forces received support from the Western Allies during the internal war. The United
States, England and Canada had contingents of men inside of Russia initially to guard supplies they
had sent during the war, but they were in a position to fight if their governments thought necessary.
The Red Army was able to defeat the much larger White armies over the course of the three year

Essay on Adrienne Rich s Diving Into the Wreck
Adrienne Rich uses many poetic resources in her poem Diving into the Wreck. In this poem a
diver goes on a trip to investigate a shipwreck in the socially accepted schema. Rich shifts the role
of the hero and the strategy for success in her second schema. In the second schema the hero goes
on a journey where she discovers her true identity, both female and male.
The hero prepares for the journey into the sea by reading the book of myths, collecting a camera
and knife, and putting on a diving suit. The diver is alone, unlike Jacques Cousteau, who had a
team to accompany him on his dives. She brings a camera because she will find things on her dive
that she does not want to forget. The persona wears absurd flippers and an awkward mask ... Show

The black waters can be seen as a metaphor for the realm unknown in the second schema. The
persona uses a mask to protect her from exposure, she must learn and adapt to her new
environment. The persona does not want to forget her mission, And now: it is easy to forget what
I came for (Vendler, 504). She has come to explore the truth of the wreck and she will not get
sidetracked. The diver has become a different person underwater, she even breaths differently in the
sea.
The diver comes upon the wreck and starts to explore it, she has come to see the ship s damage
and treasures. The diver states the purpose of her mission in the seventh stanza; she wants to
explore the wreck, she does not want to learn the story of the wreck. The persona is not interested
in the myth behind the wreck, she has come to witness it herself and see its threadbare beauty
(Vendler, 504). The diver can be seen as exploring the wreck in the first schema.
In the second schema the diver s exploration of the shipwreck is a metaphor for her search for the
truth. The persona sees evidence of damage on the wreck but she also sees beauty. The sea is no
longer dark and black, it is illuminated by the sun. The wreck could be a metaphor for the tragedy
women face when oppressed. The hero realizes the devastation caused when women s value is
denied, but the hero also finds the lost treasures of women.
The diver has a revelation in the eight stanza, she

William James Philosophies Coinciding with Today s Psychology
An admitted Moral Psychologist , James s philosophies coincide with today s fields of Humanistic
Psychology, Behavioral Psychology, and Transpersonal Psychology.
He, like Jung, dared to look outside the normal experiences of the mind and expand the concepts of
consciousness. More particularly, William James attempted to describe the processes of the
conscious rather than the definition of the conscious. He was the first to introduce our nation to
psychology as a standard educational course and the founder of pragmatism which emphasizes the
elimination of unnecessary thinking and finding truth only if it is practically applicable.
Practicality, James ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The rationale of choice involves two levels of knowing knowledge of acquaintance (an intuitive,
sensory knowing) and knowledge about (intellectual, evaluative and factual knowing). James
was particularly interested in the habits of learning. He believed strongly that successful
education was dependent upon the establishment of healthy habits. Stages involved in
establishing good personal habits include: 1) a need or desire 2) information 3) repetition. Of
course will is essential in establishing good habits (or breaking bad habits) so the training and
strengthening of will were of major concern for James. He proposed that individuals accomplish
this by practicing a useless task daily in order to train and proof themselves capable of willing
themselves into any activity. Desired habits can be established with repetition. He does however
recognize the occasional need to surrender the will and allow events to occur naturally. This, he
believes, may induce a state of complete unification, or total oneness of self, and may require or
lead to a transcendent state of mind. Self is defined by James as the place from which all our
mental processes originate and through which all our experiences are perceived. The layers of
self include the Material Self (the part of us that defines and identifies ourselves via material
goods and relationships), the Social Self (similar to Jung s persona, is the self we play in social
encounters) and the

  • 3. Comparing Dracula And The Dearg-Due By Bram Stoker Dracula still maintains a strong connection to modern day readers through its similarities to female vampire myths from Europe, most of them including the male characters dominating the females. The Dearg Due, an Irish vampire, is an example of a creature similar to those in Stoker s novel. According to Kim, an author on Got Ireland, the Dearg Due is a legendary beauty, with blood red lips and pale blonde hair, however, before turning into a monster, she had been given to a cruel man and suffered terrible mental and physical abuse at the hands of her new husband. 1 As a mortal, she had no influence on her life, and was married off to a abominable man just so her power hungry father could earn more money and a higher social status.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Stoker s character Dracula may have extraordinary powers, but he also has many weaknesses, leaving him with a vulnerable aspect. Van Helsing explains that there are ways to defeat the Count such as: the garlic that we know of... this symbol, my crucifix... [and] the branch of wild rose on his coffin (Stoker 256, XVIII).2 Dracula is powerless when faced by these objects, giving Van Helsing and his group the chance to destroy him. These items are able to block off a vampires powers and protect citizens from the attacks. Similarly, the Baobhan Sith, a banshee like vampire from the Scottish Highlands, also has weaknesses. They like to prey on unsuspecting travelers, mostly men, who wish for female company. As stated on Real Unexplained Mysteries, in a myth about the Baobhan Sith, it is stated that they will dance with men and then start to shriek uncontrollably... and suddenly attack, but in the story, one man gets lucky and is able to run away between two of the horses... to seek refuge between as they were all wearing iron horseshoes. 3 The Baobhan Sith are afraid of iron and are unable to get past it. By Google definition robots are machines capable of carrying out a complex series of actions automatically, especially one programmable by a computer; (especially in Science Fiction) a machine resembling a human being and able to replicate certain human movements and functions automatically. Many people think of robots as metal machines that come in various shapes and sizes; not machines that look and act in such ways like a human. Robots and other alike machines are widely used across the globe. In factories, schools, homes, hospitals... Whilst technology grows, the need for these complex machines becomes much greater. These machines are able to perform tasks at a much greater speed, accuracy, and complexity compared to manual labor. In Asimov s short story Evidence, a man by the name of Stephen Byerley was in a horrific accident that should have resulted in his death. When Stephen runs for mayor, Frances Quinn, his runner up, claims that the real Stephen Byerley, rather than having recovered, was permanently disfigured and crippled by the accident, and the Byerley who appears in the public is a humanoid robot, created by Stephen Byerley. • 7. Social Contradictions Of Poverty Poverty does not solely pertain to individuals without the money to sustain themselves. Rather, poverty refers to the conditions of individuals or groups of people who only possess limited means to have and raise their children, care for their loved ones, maintain households, or contribute to their communities. In Contradictions of Capitaland Care, Nancy Fraser identifies these social needs as the key capacities of social reproduction that are necessary for culture, political organization, and the creation of self expanding value via economic production. Individuals lose these social capacities due to the contradiction between economic production and social reproduction that is inherent in capitalism; once these capacities are lost, individuals remain stuck in the cycle of povertybecause of their limited abilities within the existing societal structures and hierarchies that subjugate them. The only way to significantly reduce and eventually end poverty is thus to restructure society, so that social reproduction and economic production are no longer contradictory and are recognized as inter dependent spheres. While poverty has numerous causes that create and reinforce it, the central cause of poverty is the contradiction between social reproduction and economic production. In capitalist society, economic production outweighs social reproduction, simply because economic production brings in money, which is what gives individuals purchasing power and the ability to ... Because of this, John Holland only took on the work on the basis of a labour management contract, which puts them in charge of the labour, but all the engineering decisions were still up to World Service Constructions. This lead to confusion and lack of communication between the parties working on the construction of the bridge. Four months prior to the collapse, a similar design of bridge, also designed by Freeman Fox Partners, collapsed in Milford Haven, Wales, killing four workers. Understandably, there was a lot of industrial unrest on the construction site of the Westgate Bridge, although workers had been assured by Freeman Fox Partners that the design of the Westgate was perfectly safe, but was not supported by any relevant or sufficient calculations. Many other people continued the development and improvement of electric automobiles and for a time electric automobiles were the preferred type of Automobile because of their quiet ride, quick start up, and lack of pollution. In fact electric automobiles held the land speed record well into the early 1900 s. However, they began to decline in the early 1900 s because of the increased prevalence and efficiency of the internal combustion engine. The invention and use of the internal combustion engine was a pivotal point in the history of the automobile. The first attempt at an internal combustion engine was in 1673 by Christian Huygens, using gunpowder as the fuel source, though it was basically worthless as you had to open the engine up and put new gunpowder in it after every single stroke ( The Fuel Engine ). This lack of a fuel for internal combustion engines sidelined its development for a couple hundred years. In 1860 Jean Joseph Etienne Lenoir built the first effective internal combustion engine using natural gas (Bottorff). The ignition of the gas would create a vacuum and the resulting pressure difference between the vacuum and the atmosphere would drive the power stroke (Bottorff). This gas atmospheric engine, as it is known, was an effective system capable generating 20hp, still it was imperfect. It was further improved with the development ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 11. Stereotypes In The Babysitter For this week s blog I ve decided to discuss the two dichotomizing views of women portrayed in the first thirty minutes of the horror comedy movie The Babysitter. This horror comedy Netflix original movie tells the story of Cole, a young teenager who is one of the last of his age to still have a babysitter. The film presents two schemas of women in American society: the first as the sexy, young, promiscuous babysitter and the other as the suburban superwoman. The superwoman stereotype is defined by Harris and Sanborn as the portrayal of women who appear to handle the demands of career, marriage, and parenting with amazingly little stress and difficulty (Harris Sanborn, 2014, p. 81). The movie s discussion of the babysitter as being ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... I think the effect of the portrayals of women in this film will have different effects depending on the audience. From the babysitter portrayal girls and young women may learn a particular script about what a babysitter should be and/or do. Older women, may compare themselves to the script of attractiveness the babysitter embodies and find themselves lacking. For the superwoman portrayal, women in similar positions may see how easy the mom in this film makes fulfilling these obligations look and again may find themselves lacking in comparison. Both young girls and older women could see this portrayal of the superwoman as the societal average of what a woman should be able to achieve. This could lead young girls to place an expectation on themselves in future. Overall, I found little in these two depictions of women to be supportive of a positive portrayal of women in the ... • 15. The Economic Factors Of Slave Labor In The 1600s In America In Virginia, the Chesapeake Bay area during the 1600s the slave community evolved over a long period of time. Problems occurred regarding their labor that had an important influence on the switch to a society dominated by slave labor. During the 1600s labor in the Chesapeake shifted to slave society because of a shift in culture, economic issues, and frustrations of the tobacco market boom. Each of these reasons all relates back to the labor problem the colonists were facing in Virginia. As mentioned above, one of the reasons that shifted the Chesapeake Bay area into a slave society was a shift in culture. In the early decades, people s economic status was an important identifier for what benefits they could receive, or what they could and could not do. Later in the century, this all changes. Anthony Johnson, who is African, arrives in the Chesapeake in 1621. When Anthony arrived, he was considered unfree and worked in a tobacco field with both whites and blacks since at this time economic status was still the main identifier for individuals. Anthony Jackson was considered an unusual or lucky man for many reasons. In fact, some of the reasons that made him incredibly lucky was that he did not die from diseases unlike other people in the Chesapeake, he finds a female companionship who also survives, and in 1630 Anthony buys both his and his wife s freedom. In addition, another unusual thing about Anthony was that in 1640 he becomes a plantation owner. Strangely enough, on ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Importance Of Economic Development Economic Development is extremely important in First Nation s communities as it is necessary for the development of First Nations economy and helps the community members as a whole. Economic development begins with a strong relationship between community members. Indigenous worldview and the Western worldviews are incredibly different. This may lead to a shaky relationship between First Nationspeople and the Westernized economy. First Nation s leadership is important and Indigenous run businesses would be a great way of fueling the economy. This can be done through with the proper on reserve courses and education needed. Partnering with Westernized companies and organizations will only successfully work if they are willing to look at the Indigenous worldview and understand and also incorporate these views into their organizations /companies. Not only are there major differences in worldviews between Indigenous people and European people, but also the lasting impacts of policy within Canada have had a major impact on First Nations people and the economy. According to MacKinnon (2000), Canada s history of colonial policies has left a legacy of damage and despair that has had a direct impact on the social and economic outcomes of Aboriginal people (sec. 1). • 17. Analysis Of The Lansdowne Athlete By Lysippos Ancient sculptures bring on endless philosophical arguments regarding what is an appropriate form of perfection, defined as a fit body guided by a keen mind. This paper will approach a visual essence of the sculpture of The Lansdowne Athlete, by Lysippos, Rome 340 330 B.C. marble after a bronze original, that I viewed at the LACMA. This sculptureis located in the left wing of Greek exhibition Building, 3rd floor. I selected this sculpture as an example of an idealized body. Therefore, I will be explaining the historical background of the sculpture and address why I think it would make a good addition to our text. I will provide an analogy with other sculpture of idealized body from our textbook chapter 12 on Mind and Body mainly. I will impart more information about the essence of idealized human form as well as cultural ideals during this time period in Greece. The Lansdowne Athlete at the LACMA is an example of a well developed ideal body and carefully controlled proportions to all body parts. This sculpture is a Roman copy of an original by Lysippos made in the 1st century. It is a marble statue of 75 inches in height. The figure is in the contrapposto stance common of the style at the time and is taking a step forward. The figure still has integrity even though it has a few missing parts. Its face, which is important, is more or less intact and the standing upright with its impression of movement still visible. The missing arms, if they were restored would not add much to the sculpture and the addition of these parts will not be worth the loss of authenticity. Visiting LACMA for many years, I never noticed that ancient art has been disbanded, I was surprised! The Greek and Roman sculptures now stand in the galleries of European art. The ancient statues and vases are now part of the post antique paintings, sculpture, and decorative arts of the European Art. From my skepticism, however, I have completely converted to the curators way of thinking: the pairing of old and new art, really works! It brings out content, form, and even artistic style that would otherwise be lost. In the other hand, the sheer visual variety of white statues with more colorful objects is beautiful and passionate; much more than ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Before Eleanor was five, her father broke his ankle while doing somersaults for the county circus. To reduce the pain of his injury, Elliott began drinking more heavily. Because of Elliott s moodiness and depression, he set out to find a cure for himself. This separated him from all of his children, including Eleanor. Without Eleanor s father with her, she became discouraged. Her only wish was to make her father happy. Not only was Eleanor upset over Elliott leaving; Anna was as well. I never expected such a wide array of topics to be covered I certainly didn t expect to hear about Scientology, but Kate Bornstein and Sam Feder didn t seem to shy away from any aspect of the former s life. One of the most interesting parts of the film for me involved Bornstein s interactions with presentist queer activists through Twitter and her blog posts. She doesn t shy away from discussing how her use of the term tranny upsets a great majority of her younger audience. In the film, Bornstein claims that her use of tranny marks her as transphobic to plenty of queer folks. Differences between Bornstein s perspective and modern transphobia is discussed yet again when Bornstein is speaking with a friend who slips and uses the wrong pronouns Bornstein lightly teases them, saying that if the wrong audience had heard him misgender her, they would have called him transphobic. There isn t much I can say about how I feel about whether or not Bornstein is in the wrong that s never going to be my call to make. With that in mind, though, Bornstein s insistence in regard to... Lord Of The Flies Revenge Quotes Revenge is a common concept, and has been incarnated in many different ways throughout history; there s the concept of an eye for an eye, which implies that the person taking revenge does it by themself, and, on the other end, there s the concept of karma, which implies that another force will exact revenge for the person who wants it. No matter the idea, however, the concept is always the same: a person who has wronged another gets wronged to the same extent. Revenge can become excessive, though, and can lead to the corruption of a person s morals and ideals. • 39. The Golden Age Of The Golden Age As comic books continue to develop, their popularity is normally underestimated in terms of relevance, but they are more prominent than one might assume in popular culture. Comic books are no longer seen as a primary source of entertainment in popular culture as they were during the Golden Age (1939 1955), the period of exponential growth and prosperity of the comic book industry. During that era, comicsserved to stimulate patriotism and gave an opportunity for expression that appealed to the youth. In contemporary time, they provide influence and inspiration for shows and movies alike. Two very well known comic book creators, Mr. Joe Kavalier and Mr. Sam Clay, author and illustrator of The Escapist, brought the public insight into how the Golden Age was a sign of right timing for their appearance in the comic book industry. As modest as they are, they are more notably the pioneers of the Golden Age. The age of the comic book will continue to reveal itself in more than one way and the conception of these new ideas will give birth to a new era of content. The Golden Age of comic books is seen as the age of prosperity for the comic industry. The Golden Age faced not just profound change and innovation in the comic book industry, it encompassed the change of the world with World War II and rapid innovations in technology. • 40. The Four Major Approaches Of Sociocultural Evolution Society refers to people who interact in a defined territory and share culture (Macionis,2012,p.108). They are four major approaches that display ways in which societies have changed over the past 10,000 years. The first approach was made by Gerhard Lenski who talked about society in relation to changes concerning technology. Lenski uses the term sociocultural evolution to describe such changes. Sociocultural evolution is changes that occur as a society gains very new technology (Macionis,2012,p.88). In the earliest years, societies lived by hunting and gathering. People made tools to hunt and gather food. Such societies were very petite so it was easy for them to migrate whenever food was limited. Hunters and gathers spend most of their time hunting and collecting food for them to satisfy their hunger. They depend on each other to get their duties done. Women were responsible for vegetation and men went out to hunt. The young children and elderly help out whenever they could. In most hunting and gathering societies there is a leader who basically takes control but still has to go out and hunt for food. The basic weapons used by such societies were spears, bow and arrows and stone knives. These communities were not really prone to much danger the thing they feared the most was droughts and storms. Gathering and hunting societies began to decrease as societies became more developed. Along the way, societies developed horticulture, which is the use of hand tools to ... In the epic novel written by Murasaki Shikibu during the Heian period of the Japan, the leading character Hikaru Genji was described a nearly flawless person. The wisdom, the perfect looking, the personal background as a prince every piece of his characteristic was the presentation of attractive, or shining , as what Murasaki Shikibu illustrated by his name. With the qualities that make Genji shines , as what was expected, Genji had a huge amount of romantic affairs involved true lovethat neither men practicing monogamy nor polygamy would ever expect to approach. However a query exists: what is love in Genji s dictionary? In order to understand Genji s love, it is critical for us to look back upon his very beginning of love and life, as it originates with Lady Fujitsubo during his childhood and puberty phases. Lady Fujitsubo accompanies Genji within the process of his psychological and physical development as the role of mother and sister; with her perfect talent and appearance plus the natural Oedipus complex, Genji developed a deep adoration toward her. As the very first women Genji had ever loved, Lady Fujitsubo was the one of eternity . The relationship between them had never approached to a completion, which left Genji with regret and void throughout the rest of his life; ever since that, his life long goal of love was to love someone that is Lady Fujitsubo. Every woman he loved afterward had one or more parts of Lady Fujitsubo involved; the most obvious ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

He has done nothing morally or legally wrong, but only help a woman in need. Miss Mayella Ewells. The testimonies given today throughout the trial proves without a reasonable doubt that this man is not guilty. The testimony given by Miss Mayella Ewell s clearly reveals that she been not just physically, but mentally abused. Miss Mayella has been abused, but not by Tom Robinson. A father of three children, a hardworking man, a respected member of his community and neighborhood. A man who has the moral obligation to provide for his family, but to guide his children through the hard paths we call life. How can you guide, teach, and raise your precious children if you are locked away from them forever? Mr. Robinson is in a fight not only for this life, but for his family. Unable to protect, prosper, and provide for his family at this very moment because he is sitting here as an innocent man waiting to be told he might never see his loved ones again. I have come to a strong conclusion that not only Tom Robinson is a devoted man to his family, but is innocent of raping and abusing Miss Mayella. Now the prosecution has to prove beyond all reasonable doubt that Tom Robinson is guilty of this horrendous crime, yet prosecution has failed to provide the court with substantial evidence that proves how, who, and why it happened. • 43. Pathology Of The Autonomic Nervous System Introduction In this report, the symptoms of this patient will be diagnosed, and the causes of them discussed with reference to the physiology and pharmacology of the autonomic nervous system. The Autonomic Nervous System The autonomic nervous system (ANS) is the part of the motor division of the peripheral nervous system (PNS) that controls involuntary processes in the body (Wieczorek, 2014). Such functions include control of heart rate, gland activity, smooth muscle contraction and constriction of blood vessels (Biology online.org, 2014). The ANS is divided into two branches, the sympathetic nervous system (SN) and the parasympathetic nervous system (PN). The SN is responsible for the fight or flight response, which results in increased preparedness for vigorous activity in response to exercise or emergency. The PN acts antagonistically to the SN, in that it produces the opposite effects to those of the SN. Under normal circumstances, the PN is dominant, and allows processes such as digestion and defecation to occur, while also conserving energy (Elmhurst.edu, 2014). Most of the visceral organs of the body are innervated by both sympathetic and parasympathetic neurones, with the exceptions being sweat glands and the smooth muscle of blood vessels they are only innervated by sympathetic nerve fibres (Wieczorek, 2014). In the ANS, a number of different neurotransmitters and receptors are present. In both the PN and SN, the neurotransmitter at the ganglia is ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The applied objective serves to enable the learner to learn more efficiently by exploiting our knowledge of his dialect for pedagogical purposes (Corder, 1974:122). As per the Encyclopedic Dictionary of Linguistics by Tim (2003) writing is the act of representing, or the representation, of thoughts, ideas and speech by conventional material signs. • 47. Globalized Islam By Olivier Roy In Olivier Roy s book, Globalized Islam, he writes about propaganda targets individuals, not groups as the strategy used Islamists, when elaborating a political program, targets groups, and more precisely social groups (impoverished neo urbanites, students from the lower and middle classes, and so on). Roy continues on to share their reasoning for the method of targeting individuals, not groups [author s italicization]. This remains congruent with their strategy of going to the polls; an electorate is always a collective and anonymous entity. Roy goes on to state why the new preachers use another method. But the new preachers target individuals, for the simple reason that they do not have a global political and social project, except implementation of sharia. In contrast he goes on to explain how the Taliban s agenda differs. Even the Taliban, who were ruling a real country, never cared about implementing any economic or social program, but were exclusively concerned with sharia. Consequently, individual Muslims that relocate from their own culture to migrate to the western world still remain well rooted in their religion despite the fact that no special accommodations are made for their religion. No allowances are made for Muslims to abide naturally and easily by the tenets of their religion. Hence the implementation of binding religious obligations rests on the good goodwill of the believer, not on any external cultural pressure or a state s legal ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Russian Revolution of 1917 was unsuccessful because of how it did not accomplish the initial goal of establishing communism, internal social and economic issues within Russia, detrimental effects of rapid industrialisation and became the catalyst of a civil war. The defeat in war against Japan, in 1905, led to increased opposition to the Tsar, who was viewed as incompetent. The war was also important in intensifying and worsening longer term social and economic problems, as it caused food shortages, high prices and unemployment the factors which motivated many to take part in the march on the Winter palace that resulted in Bloody Sunday (Document A). Due to Russia s sheer amount of citizens in the country, it resulted in a overcrowded society, poor housing along with poor living and working conditions (created by economic problems in Russia) led to social tension in cities. In terms of land and agriculture, the Russians had methods that were inefficient and backwards as they still used wooden ploughs and very few animals and tools. With not enough land to go around (due to the controlling of private property), vast expansion of peasant population in the later half of the 19th century led to overcrowding and competition for land. The diverse people of Russia desperately needed a social reform. With peace established with Germany, the of lack of a compete control over the country then led to the civil war immediately after the Bolsheviks assumed power. • 50. Essay on Adrienne Rich s Diving Into the Wreck Adrienne Rich uses many poetic resources in her poem Diving into the Wreck. In this poem a diver goes on a trip to investigate a shipwreck in the socially accepted schema. Rich shifts the role of the hero and the strategy for success in her second schema. In the second schema the hero goes on a journey where she discovers her true identity, both female and male. The hero prepares for the journey into the sea by reading the book of myths, collecting a camera and knife, and putting on a diving suit. The diver is alone, unlike Jacques Cousteau, who had a team to accompany him on his dives. She brings a camera because she will find things on her dive that she does not want to forget. The persona does not want to forget her mission, And now: it is easy to forget what I came for (Vendler, 504). She has come to explore the truth of the wreck and she will not get sidetracked. The diver has become a different person underwater, she even breaths differently in the sea. The diver comes upon the wreck and starts to explore it, she has come to see the ship s damage and treasures. The diver states the purpose of her mission in the seventh stanza; she wants to explore the wreck, she does not want to learn the story of the wreck. The persona is not interested in the myth behind the wreck, she has come to witness it herself and see its threadbare beauty (Vendler, 504). The diver can be seen as exploring the wreck in the first schema. In the second schema the diver s exploration of the shipwreck is a metaphor for her search for the truth. The persona sees evidence of damage on the wreck but she also sees beauty. The sea is no longer dark and black, it is illuminated by the sun. The wreck could be a metaphor for the tragedy women face when oppressed. The hero realizes the devastation caused when women s value is denied, but the hero also finds the lost treasures of women. William James Philosophies Coinciding with Today s Psychology An admitted Moral Psychologist , James s philosophies coincide with today s fields of Humanistic Psychology, Behavioral Psychology, and Transpersonal Psychology. He, like Jung, dared to look outside the normal experiences of the mind and expand the concepts of consciousness. More particularly, William James attempted to describe the processes of the conscious rather than the definition of the conscious. He was the first to introduce our nation to psychology as a standard educational course and the founder of pragmatism which emphasizes the elimination of unnecessary thinking and finding truth only if it is practically applicable. The rationale of choice involves two levels of knowing knowledge of acquaintance (an intuitive, sensory knowing) and knowledge about (intellectual, evaluative and factual knowing). James was particularly interested in the habits of learning. He believed strongly that successful education was dependent upon the establishment of healthy habits. Stages involved in establishing good personal habits include: 1) a need or desire 2) information 3) repetition. Of course will is essential in establishing good habits (or breaking bad habits) so the training and strengthening of will were of major concern for James. He proposed that individuals accomplish this by practicing a useless task daily in order to train and proof themselves capable of willing themselves into any activity. Desired habits can be established with repetition. He does however recognize the occasional need to surrender the will and allow events to occur naturally. This, he believes, may induce a state of complete unification, or total oneness of self, and may require or lead to a transcendent state of mind. Self is defined by James as the place from which all our mental processes originate and through which all our experiences are perceived.
