Research Essay Topics For High School
Students
Composing an essay on the subject of "Research Essay Topics for High School Students" can
prove to be a challenging task. The difficulty arises from the need to strike a balance between
engaging the target audience – high school students – and delving into substantive
research. Crafting a compelling and informative piece demands a thorough understanding of the
specific needs and interests of the high school demographic.
Firstly, identifying suitable research topics that are both relevant and intriguing for high school
students can be a daunting process. The topics need to be tailored to the academic level of high
school, ensuring they are neither too simplistic nor overly complex. Striking this balance requires
careful consideration of the students' intellectual capacity and their ability to engage with
scholarly material.
Furthermore, the essay should be structured in a manner that captivates the attention of high
school students. This involves employing an accessible and engaging writing style, incorporating
relatable examples, and avoiding overly technical language. Balancing academic rigor with
readability is crucial to maintaining the interest of the audience throughout the essay.
In addition to these challenges, conducting thorough research on the chosen topics is a crucial
aspect of the writing process. High-quality research involves sifting through academic journals,
reliable online sources, and possibly conducting interviews or surveys to gather pertinent
information. This requires time, patience, and a keen eye for credible sources to ensure the
essay's integrity.

The Personality Of Francis Of Assisi
Moreover, he did not even keep his drawers, but stripped himself stark naked before
all the bystanders. This quote does not sound like the description of a typical Saint,
but Francis of Assisi was certainly not a typical Saint. His devotion to Jesus Christ
was unmatched as he dedicated his life to authentically follow the ways of his Savior.
Initially, Francis undertaking of replicating the life of Jesusover a millennium
removed from his time on Earth was not taken well by Italian society and many
considered him to be a madman. His love for lepers and for the lowest of the low was
appalling to many at the time. Ironically, his devoutness to Christianity was most
threatening to the institution of the Church itself. His staunch stance against... Show

Francis spent his early years as the spoiled son of a merchant from the nouveau rich
class. He was accustomed to violence and even went to war in a battle between Assisi
and Perugia. This all changed later, as he become truly selfless. One of his friends
noticed this sudden change in Francis and asked him, Francis are you going to
take a wife? In response he said, I will marry a nobler and fairer bride than you
ever saw, who shall surpass all others in beauty and excel them in wisdom. The
lady he was referring to was Lady Poverty. He would go on to sell off all his
possessions including his own horse and attempted to give the money to the
decaying St. Damian Church which the priest would not accept. It is worth noting
that the priest did not take the money because he found the change of heart within
Francis startling. The priest was amazed, and wondering at a change of
circumstances incredibly sudden, refused to believe what he heard; and, thinking he
was being hoaxed, he would not keep the offered money. The skeptical reaction of
the priest shows how radical and revolutionary Saint Francis generosity was, but also
how rare a man like Francis was at a this point in
Multiculturalism in the United States Essay examples
Multiculturalism in the United States The side in opposition to multiculturalism
firmly believes that it weakens America by keeping immigrants from adequately
assimilating to the core values of America s Anglo Protestant identity. This side
believes that multiculturalism weakens the social bond of the United States by
denying that immigrants need to assimilate to the language and values of the country
s dominant culture. The rise of non English speaking communities is seen as a
detrimental factor in the goal of achieving unity in American culture. Opponents state
that immigrants coming to the United States must always lose their previous culture
from their country of origin, to be able to completely assimilate to and fully embrace

Elan Journo explains in his article, Multiculturalisms War on Education :
Multiculturalism seeks to obliterate the value of a free, industrialized civilization by
declaring that such a civilization is no better than primitive tribalism. We are opposed
to this Some opponents argue that multiculturalism is actually racism in disguise. In
their opinion, the meaning of multiculturalism is that an individual s identity and
personal worth are determined by ethnic/racial membership not by his own choices
and actions (Rand). This leads to the impression that a person s identity is determined
by skin color, and therefore people separate into ethnic groups. Those in opposition to
multiculturalism believe that college students have become racial separatists, that
they form self segregated dormitories and choose friends based on ethnicity. The
supporting side also believes that multiculturalism in education is an essential part of
college. Studies have found that appreciation for diversity is lacking on college
campuses. Evidence shows that among the growing tensions on college campuses,
multiculturalism remains the most unresolved issue on campus [in the US] today
(Bikson Law p. 91). Frequent campus reports of racially motivated hate crimes imply
that this remains a huge issue. Proponents

Physical Therapy Physical Therapy also abbreviated as PT is a medical field that
applies physical methods for reducing pain and managing or preventing possible
impairments or disabilities in patients. Instead of drugs or surgeries, mechanical
movements, massages and specific exercises are used to help the patients. Not only
does that prevent you from getting an extremely highly priced surgery but also it
saves you from the long period of drug use that follows after it. PTs treat patients
individually and develop a specific plan and regimen for each patient that caters to
the patients needs. Physical Therapy practice is not only in hospitals but also in
Hospices, extended care facilities, homes, fitness centers, rehab facilities and so on.
Physical therapy has a long and rich history. It began as just being assistant to the
physicians. During the First World War, a lot of women were hired to assist the

Indigenous People In The 1500s
The indigenous have been mistreated by the Europeans since the 1500 s, from the
cod fishing to the fur trading. The indigenous were kidnapped by the Europeans,
forced to change cultures, and used for the European benefits. The indigenous life
was not one of joy, but of sadness, and torture. In the 1500 s, the Beothuk peoples
encountered Europeans for the first time, when they first came to fish cod, but they
didn t establish a trading partnership. It wasn t until the early 1800 s when the
Europeans took action and captured Beothuk peoples, Shawnadithit, her mother, and
her sister, and took them back to Europe. Shawnadithit s mother and sister died in
Europe from European diseases. Later on, the Europeans took Shawnadithit back to
her point of capture, she then caught tuberculosis and died in 1829, she was the last
known Beothuk person alive. If the Europeans hadn t captured Shawnadithit and her
family in the first place, the Beothuk peoples would still be alive to this day, and they

Thesis Statement: Coming from different backgrounds can be difficult. Being raised
based on religion , values , and morals play a huge role in your life. Everyone isn t
raised the same . There are many different parenting styles. Today, I will compare and
contrast two different parenting styles between African Americanand Latin American
families.
I.Four styles of parenting
A. Authoritative Parents
B . Authoritarian Parents C. Uninvolved Parents D. Permissive Parents
II. Religion
A. Africa American people religion vary . Some people practice Judaism , Buddhism
or Christian . The predominant religion is Christinanity
B.There are more than 425 million Catholics in the Latin American community .
Catholicism is practiced in 18 countries and one U.S. Territory.
III.Values
A.In the past, African American families suffered a lot when they were slaves in the
society. The people in the familywere separated because of the sale of family
members as slaves. However, they still maintained the bond with the family. The
slaves, who got their freedom, started working hard to save money to free their
family members from the clutches of slavery. The people who unfortunately lost their
blood relations made up with the fictive kin like cousins, uncles, aunts, nieces and
nephews. However, none of these were blood relations. This practice is taken from
ancient African traditions where non blood relatives were accorded status of family
members. It was considered to be an honor. In the

Einstein And Rutherford Research Paper
Mathematicians and Scientist
Ernest Rutherford and Albert Einstein were some of the best Scientists and
Mathematicians of their time. They had discovered and contributed so much to the
fields of math and science. With both of them living and working in the same era
(Late 1800s and early 1900s), they were affected by lots of the same events, and their
contributions helped each other. Throughout their lives they discovered things that
put a huge impact the on things we have today such as the technology we have, and
our progress in the fields of Mathematics and Science.
Ernest Rutherford was born on August 30, 1871 in Brightwater, New Zealand and
died on October 19, 1937. He went to the University of Cambridge, Nelson College,

Colleges and Scientists still use the gold foil experiment to learn from, and they still

Sociological Effects Of The Ageing Process
315321
The ageing process is a natural process that will happen to each one of us within
society. These psychosocial aspects of ageing usually start to happen at an older
age, but can also affect a person at a younger age. The theorist has researched and
determined that there is three sort of theories that explain and demonstrate the idea,
how our biological, psychological and social process changes over time. How these
can affect an individual to engage and interact within society, and to adapt to social
changes. Unfortunately, within these theories, there may be barriers that will reduce
one s ability to reach their full potential, and this may have an adverse effect on the
individual. Not all individuals find themselves in these theories. People that have
dementia can become physically and mentally limited. This can have a negative
impact on how the individual adapts to the society, how one communicates with
others within their community and to family or friends that provide support to ensure
they get the best quality of life in the future. Having researched into two of the
theories and how they can give us an idea of the changes within the ageing process,
one can also determine how changes with in a society can also influence the process
of ageing and how an older person may appear to a younger one.
Ageing is a combination of processes, biological, psychological and social process
that happens to an individual as they grow older. (Giddens, 2009, pp 305 306) These
Geography Of The Indus River
Barrett, EmilyPeriod 6 4/30/15
Geography
The Indus River is located on the northwestern part of the sub continent with other
rivers draining into it. Another river called the Ganges River was east of the Indus
River. The climate was tropical and contained seasonal winds called monsoons.
Monsoons during the winter were dry and went from land to the sea, letting little rain
fall on the land. During summer monsoons wet winds go from ocean to land bringing
rain with it. The mountain ranges, the Himalayas and Hindu Kush, were located near
the north.
The first civilization in the sub continent grew around the Indus River; later another
civilization grew around the Ganges River. The rivers would flood and this leaves
behind rich soils which makes plentiful crops that fed the civilization. Agriculture
depends on the summer monsoon. If rain comes, there are no problems, but if it
comes late or not at all crops die and people starve. Since they could not always
depend on the monsoons they made irrigation channels that led to their crops. The
Himalayas and Hindu Kush separated the sub continent from the rest of Asia. Culture

India was the first place that made and used cotton in a piece of clothing called a sari,
which was worn by women. This piece of clothing was long and could be worn in

planet, not only due to the many rare species of primate found in its stunning
environment, but also because of the picturesque plant life found all over. Located
east of the coast of southern Africa, the large island is a little larger than France
but slightly smaller than Texas, (OVERVIEW) allowing for its rank as the fourth
largest island in the world! It has earned so much merit for these two facts (its size
and the unique life) that a children s movie was created in honor of it, and from that
several movie and television productions came to life. However, as large as the

It is located off the southeastern coast of Africa. The most amazing thing about
Madagascar is out of the 200,000 living species there, 80% of them do not exist
anywhere else in the world (CITE). Also, being an island it has a coastal perimeter
with the interior of the island being a forested plateau, allowing for a variety of
different wildlife . It truly is a beautiful place. However, on the negative aspect of
Madagascar s environment, close to 80% of the forests have been cut down
(CITE). Because of the destruction of the forests, the natural soil of the riverbed
is eroding resulting in the loss of 400 tons of topsoil a year (CITE). Rice farmers in
Madagascar cut and burn down local vegetation to plant rice, which is part of the
problem, because after a year or two the nutrients in the ground are completely
depleted. Every year fires are set for clearing the land also resulting in about 1/3 of
the entire island burning (CITE?). This not only destroys the plants but also disrupts
the animals environment. Mining for minerals and oil causes destruction of the

The next thing in my paper is what is the Department of Justice doing about
identity theft? The Department of Justice prosecutes cases of identity theft under
different federal statutes. In the fall of 1998 Congress passed the Identity Theft
and Assumption Deterrence Act. This legislation made a new offense for
criminals of identity theft. It was made if someone stole someone else s identity
they would go to jail for it. The penalty if caught would be a maximum sentence of
15 years if found guilty. These are some cases showing how the Department of
Justice is doing their jobs to catch the identity theft criminals. There is the Central
district of Kansas case that proves they are. There are many cases that show that
the Department of Justice is doing their best to crack down on identity theft
criminals. What can the people of the United States do about identity theft? The
victims of identity theft have the task of correcting the information the person has
stolen and trying to get their name and life to normal. This may seem like it is
taking forever to fix, but eventually it will be fixed after all the missing pieces are
put back in the puzzle. The damage the identity theft criminals leave on the person
they stole the identity from is so far from undone that they messed up everyday life
for the person. This is what people have to do after their identity is stolen. What
should Americans do to avoid becoming a

S588G impose a duty on directors stop a company trading while it is insolvent or
would become insolvent. The provision requires directors take any reasonable steps
to prevent incurring debts and maintain the maximum abilities to pay the present
creditors or protect future creditors. The ultimately objective is to protect the
creditors. According to S588G, as long as the directors suspect that the company is
insolvent or would become insolvent and fail to prevent a company from insolvent
trading, he or she would potentially personal liable for all the debts incurred since
insolvency.
Under S95A, A company is insolvent if it is unable to pay all its debts when they
become due for payment (Hanrahan, 2015). It is difficult for directors to figure out
whether the company is temporary lack of liquidity or insolvent. Furthermore, the
uncertain local and global economic conditions would make them feel hesitant about
whether the decision they make will save the company not. This provision put
significantly personal liabilities on directors shoulder. Directors special without
company share directors would rather to simply give up saving the company by
winding up or appointing an administrator than put their personal wealth on risk even
though there is a chance to rescue it.
One of the objective of appointing an voluntary administration is to put a company
into a temporary safety zone from its creditors and

The Pros And Cons Of The Treaty Of Sussex
The Treaty of Sussex includes points which support colonialism and states that the
German colonies in Southeast Asia go to Japan and the remaining German colonies
are spread between France and Great Britain. The treaty should be encouraging
decolonization movements instead of colonialism, even if this demands France and
Great Britain to give up on their own colonies. In 1914, the whole Africa except
Liberia and Ethiopia, was ruled by Europeans. Great Britain and France were in
charge of the two biggest colonial empires. During the war, they utilized their
colonies for both human and material resources. From Britain s colonies, India
contributed the biggest number of soldiers with nearly 1.5 million gathered from the
beginning of the war until December 1919. The dominions Canada, New Zealand,
Australia, South Africa and Newfoundland contributed with an additional 1.3 million
men to the British army. Initially, France had 90,000 troops (troupes indigГЁnes)
under their control for the war. Then, between 1914 and 1918, France assembled

Essay about A Bugs Life Related to Marxism
A BUGS LIFE Marxism is the theory of Karl Marx and Fredrich Engels, it s based
on the economical and social system. Marxism emphasizes on the importance of class
struggle in society. They thought that economic processes and class struggles laid the
groundwork for every important era and movement in history, and would lead to the
downfall of the upper class and the rise of an egalitarian communist society. Under
capitalism, the working class or the people, own only their capacity to work; they
have the ability only to sell their own labor. According to Marx a class is defined by

Another example of Marxism in the movie is when the circus insects are working
for their owner and he doesn t pay them enough for what they are producing, which
is their circus act. The bugs have no control over the amount of money the boss is
selling it for but they are aware that its not fair. In this situation the circus bugs are
the communist and their owner is the capitalist. This is an example of Marxism
because the owner of the bugs pay them less then what they are work. They do a
lot of hard labor putting on acts every night and traveling place to place but they
can not control the money distribution until they leave. Once they have left their
owner is frantic about their absence and wants them back. This is also Marxism
because in Marxism they said that the common working people make up the
society, with out the working people we wouldn t have most of the things we have.
True in real life and the movie because once the act left the owner wasn t anything
and he agreed to pay them right if they accept him back as their owner. This movie

her determination to give as much as she can to anyone. Francie adores Sissy, and
Sissy s maternal actions are the inspiration to Francie s fantasies about starting a

Essay about Lack of Reason in Shakespeare s Othello
Lack of Reason in Shakespeare s Othello
William Shakespeare presents the character Othello as an excellent leader in the play,
Othello. The hero has strength, charisma, and eloquence. Yet Othello cannot reason.
The battlefield and Senate are, at least in Othello, depicted as places of honor, where
men speak truly. In addition, the matters of war and state are relatively simple; no
one lies to Othello, all seem to respect him. He never even has to fight in the play,
with the enemy disappearing by themselves. This simplistic view does not help him
in matters of the heart. His marriage is based on tall tales and pity and his friendships
are never examined; he thinks that anyone who knows him love him. Thus the

/ Man but a rush against Othello s breast / And he retires. (V.2.320 322) Giving up
is hardly Othello s style, but this is how a noble and true man should react when he
has mistakenly killed his wife. However, Othello s words give a deeper insight into
how he still misunderstands the situation. Who can control his fate? he asks, which
gives pause to a theory of pure nobility. Placing responsibility in the stars he calls
Desdemona an ill starred wench is hardly a gallant course of action. (V.2.316, 323) It
is beyond a doubt Othello s fault that all of this wreckage befalls him, and his still
has not had a moment of recognition of his failures at reasoning and understanding.
Indeed, it is Othello s final soliloquy that ultimately seals his fate as a man who
lacks critical thinking skills. This is because these are his final words, and they
deal with fact, not emotion. He addresses the reasons behind his downfall, and

responsibility for it. It is a noble speech, and a dubiously noble ending, but still, like
Othello, flawed.
The setting for Othello s final moments onstage is critical to how it is perceived by
Othello, the other players onstage, and the audience. It lends credence to the nobility
of the situation, and adds to Othello s misguided self perception. The experience, in

Rhetorical Analysis of The Killer Instinct
Rhetorical analysis of The Killer Instinct (January 2000) The Killer Instinct is an
article published in A Monthly Journal of Religion Public Life by Institute on
Religion Public life in January 2000. This journal, which started from 1998, contains
various articles with opinions, arguments, debates and commentary on religious and
moral questions, and social issues going in American society. Thomas Sally, a poet
and a writer, argues in the article that it s the nature of boys who constructs them
rough and not the toys that create them violent. She argues with various examples
from her friends and even from her own experience throughout the article making
clear sense of support to her argument. This article by Thomas Sally is a successful
argument appealing toward its audience with a clear and strong use of
reasoning(logos), emotion(pathos) and authority(ethos) .Thomas Sally s appeal to
logicis the strongest persuasive proof to her argument. The motive for her use of
reasoning is strong due to the explanation of suitable examples from her real life
experience on the subject. Thomas Sally explains, by reasoning, at the beginning
paragraphs that a boy enjoys the warlike fascination of slashing shooting and even
punching if they don t find anything. Thomas Sally uses logos as, We don t tell
someone struggling with lust simply not to want sex; we don t tell a glutton that his
problems will be solved if he stops being hungry. This is a clear logical
The Middle Sexes Anthony Thomas
Response 1: The Middle Sexes
The documentary Middle Sexes: Redefining He and She sheds light on the difficult
lives of individuals who identify with the opposite gender. The writer Anthony
Thomas uses biology to prove to the audience that intersexual s didn t necessarily
make that choice for themselves. Thomas says that on in every hundred people is
born with unidentifiable genitalia (Thomas). This is referred to as intersex. The
beginning of the film focuses on a young boy named Noah who takes interest in the
stereotypical girly or feminine activities. This movie has lead me to realize that
society s perspective on gender and sexuality is heavily influenced by the media. The
media strictly portrays what society knows as the norms of human ... Show more

They should have the right to dress as they choose, love who they choose, and be
who they choose. It angers me that people believe differently considering they ve
never been in their shoes. In the Paradoxes of Gender Judith Lorber states, We
need to change biological sex in order to uphold the principle that biological sex
determine one character (41). Lorber s preconceived notion that one s sex dictates
their personality is flawed. It proves that society is unaccepting of people outside
of the norm . Middle Sexes speaks to a wide variety of people but is mainly
directed to transphobic people. However, the film isn t very compelling because it
doesn t take the audience s outlook into consideration. Through biological evidence
and personal stories, the film strives to persuade transphobic people to be more
accepting. Thomas attempts to persuade his target audience by referencing the
science behind people who blur the lines between female and male. His unique
approach is more convincing than an argument that stems from one s opinions.
However, his lack of counterarguments makes it difficult for the audience to relate.
All in all, the documentary The Middle Sexes covers many controversial topics.
Some of these topics include the biology of middle sexes, the dangers of being a
transgender, and societies outlook on transgenders. With much analysis, I ve realized
that this film has too narrow of a perspective on transgenders and middle sexes. The
restricted perspective prevents the audience from being
The Importance Of Mandated Learning Goals
New teachers struggle with balancing creativity and imposing guidelines and
materials. Mandated learning goals are the requirements set by the Department of
Education that teachers must incorporate into their curriculum. They outline the
concepts that the students must understand before moving on to the next grade. For
example, Missouri Public Schools require that 5th graders must be able to read with
sufficient accuracy and fluency to support comprehension by the end of the school
year as one of their mandated learning goals (Common Core State Standards
Initiative, 2017). Learning mandates remove most opportunities for teachers to be
creative with their lesson plan, because they must teach all the required material
first. One teacher argued that [i]f people think of schools as buildings and do not
pay attention to the people within them and the policies driving them, they do not
understand what schools are and what they could be in people s lives after she had
left her teaching position due to miscommunication and overbearing stipulations
(as cited in Craig, 2014, p. 112). This teacher acknowledged the struggle for
schools to convince the politicians in charge of the mandated learning goals to see
schools as influential in the daily life of those who attend. Also, if teachers do not
cover all of the required material or the students do poorly on the state exams it
reflects a failure on the teachers part. Craig (2014) says the intended effect of the

What do 18 25 year old Adelaide students think about legalising voluntary euthanasia
in Australia?
Introduction
The purpose of this research is to seeking and analysing the opinions about legalising
voluntary euthanasia within Adelaide students (aged 18 25 years old). With recent
changes to legalisation of child euthanasia in Belgium, the controversial issue of
euthanasia is currently being re spotlighted all over the world. Ongoing active
discussion on the legalisation of euthanasia mainly debates individual s choices in
ending their own life. While some people believe that the act of euthanasia violates
sanctity of life, others consider that one has the right to their life, and hence should be
able to choose to be euthanized.
Even before this research, I was interested in euthanasia area. I just knew brief
information and meanings of euthanasia, but I always wanted to know more depth
about euthanasia and details. This research will be focused to provide the background
and concepts of euthanasia, ethical issues with euthanasia and answer the question of

Over the past decades, many people have argued their opinions about the acceptability
and the circumstances of euthanasia whether it should allow or not. World widely,

Analysis Of The Movie The Princess Bride
As you wish High adventure and true love are two of the best things you could ever
hope to find in a story, states Goldman, Author of The Princess Bride. In 1987
director Rod Reiner brought this classic tale to the big screen. The movie adaptation
perfectly brings to life the ever enduring love between the protagonists, Westley and
Buttercup. Throughout the film the pair is faced with numerous trials and
tribulations that could easily shake the bond between the lovers, yet they prevail. The
Princess Brideis a classic tale of romance, one that acquired quite the cult following,
but most watch for the quick quips or flashy sword fights; few bother to delve
deeper into the film s underlying message. This essay will explore how Goldman
uses literary elements such as conflict, characterization, and mood to convey the
somewhat clichГ© theme of the work. This movie is easily one of the greatest
examples of love conquering all obstacles. The films begins with a grandfather
reading The Princess Brideto his sick grandson. Reiner utilizes the grandfather as a
narrator throughout the movie. Scenes are often interrupted by the inquisitive
grandson asking probing questions in shocked dismay, such as, Is this a kissing
book? The use of an omniscient narrator allows for clarification for the audience
without making the story seem unnatural. He is there to provide necessary
background information as well as reassure viewers during moments of tension and
conflict.
Russian Weapons In The Middle Ages
Russian warriors in the Middle Ages developed great skills and courage during their
massive battles, which provided them with the respect and fear they desired. Many of
their brutal weapons were unique to Russia, however some originated from their
Norse heritage, which they then incorporated into their own Viking style combat.
Some of their infantryskills even evolved from the Mongols after their invasion in
the 13th century. During the Middle Ages, Russian military units had similar
armory to the Byzantine military units. Very rarely did they wear a full suit of
armor and were deprived of protection, but quick maneuvers and mobility required
only limited armory. Early Russian forces relied heavily on their skillful use of
weaponry as a force... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Bow and arrows were able to be made efficiently and easily, due to one simple
material; a single piece of wood. This special craftsmanship gave a ratnik, or
warrior, the ability to pierce a target of over 500 meters away. This particular
weapon was based on the Mongol horse archery tactic during the Mongol Invasion
of the Russian states during the 13th century. The Russian cavalry, or those who
used bow and arrows as a main weapon, also carried with them a long curved sword
like the shashka, a type of pike, an axe, or a mace. They always carried multiple
weapons at a time in order to be prepared for any type of battle approach. The early
Russians had many unique weapons, including a large war axe, or bardiche. A
pole held a large curved blade, usually 60 80 centimeters long, and was useful in
battle for heavy slashing (Xenophon, 2017). A mace, or bulava, was another
weapon that the Russian cavalry and infantry carried during war. This blunt
weapon had a heavy head at the end of a handle, which gave warriors the ability to
distribute powerful blows and penetrate a plate of armor (Wikipedia, 2017). The
infantry usually received shorted maces, while the cavalrymen were given longer
handles in order to better attack the enemy on horseback. The Russian soldiers in the
Middle Ages were well equipped with

Tom Stoppard s Rosencrantz Guildenstern Are Dead
In the play, Rosencrantz Guildenstern Are Dead, the author, Tom Stoppard conveys
his worldview to the readers. Throughout the play, readers are able to determine
Stoppard s worldviews on the role of the everyday man s role in society, and most
noticeable, death. Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are presented as two characters who
represent the everyday person. In the play, they are looking for purpose and direction
for their lives. Just like the character, Hamlet, in Shakespeare s Hamlet, Guildenstern
struggles with finding direction in his life because he tends to overthink things. This
overthinking does not help him with finding direction in his life and eventually, like
Hamlet, leads to his death. Rosencrantz on the other hand is the opposite of... Show

Stoppard reflects on the idea that while Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are seeking this
direction and purpose, they are not receiving. In the play, Stoppard includes the
character of the Player. The player is an ironic character because he is in control of
the play that the players put on, he is the most honest. The Players discusses that
what [they] do on stage [is] the things that are supposed to happen off. Unlike
Rosencrantz and Guildenstern, the players are able to become anyone other people or
society wants from them. This makes it so that whatever they encounter, they will be
successful. As the play concludes, the players and Rosencrantz and Guildenstern
know the only certain direction that life will take them is death. From the speech
about death in a box, to the play of the Murder of Gonzago, Rosencrantz and
Guildenstern discover that while death is certain, they cannot change their fate.
While Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are sailing to England, they embrace their fate
because they learn that they cannot change the direction that fate is bringing them
The Information Age
Growing up in the information age, everybody in my generation is influenced by
computers. Not merely regarding computers as a toy or tool in my childhood, I
was curious about the computer itself how it works and what it can do for me. The
first time I used programming was in primary school. Not printing Hello, world like
others, I was able to draw pictures and even create games using Logo programming
language. The charm of programming is very attractive to me. While in high school
I participated in the National Olympiad in Informatics in Provinces (NOIP) and
trained every day solving over 300 questions in total. Through unrelenting efforts, I
was awarded first prize three times. Because of this experience I laid a solid
foundation for my algorithmskills and it has taught me to always solve problems in a
comprehensive way. Eventually, I was recommended for admission to the University
of Science and Technology of China (USTC) because of my specialty in
programming and superior academic skills.
My undergraduate education at USTC has provided me with a strong and
comprehensive background in Computer Science. The curriculum included all the
basic courses in Computer Science such as Data Structures, Algorithms, Operating
System, Compiler and so forth. These courses improved my skills in reading and
writing programs and promoted my understanding of computer systems. For
instance, I implemented a C/0 (a simplified C) complier in two ways: writing a

The Garden Of Earthly Delights
Hieronymous Bosch s 16th century triptych, The Garden of Earthly Delights, is a
heavily discussed image among scholars. Because of the obscure nature of the
painting and its subjects, especially so in the context of the painting s time period,
interpretations and analyses of the image are widespread. Common interpretations
of the piece include that the image is a symbolic warning against shame and sin, a
warning against woman s temptations, the rebirth of a joyous world, and the
Garden as a Paradise Lost . In the 15th and 16th centuries, there were various
controversies surrounding the papacy of the Catholic Church, as well as other
matters of Catholic corruption, which would eventually lead to the reformation.
Expectedly, an unsophisticated symbolic analysis of the painting may lead one to
interpret the image as a representation of the Final Judgment , which is plausible
given this context of Bosch s time period. Because of religious conflict and turmoil,
people were likely confused and fearful of literal apocalyptic consequences. A more
sophisticated allegorical analysis of the piece is instead revealing of Bosch s
conceptual interpretation of the world and reality itself. The title suggests the piece
contains earthly delights , yet the absence of any man like items suggests that Bosch
s painting was instead metaphorically symbolic in its iconographic depictions. The
center panel should thus be interpreted allegorically in order to decode Bosch s

The Characteristics Of Generation Y
Before we start talking about Generation Y we need to define who are those people?
When they were born and what are the characteristics of Generation? Looking at
what is commonly referred to as Generation Y might therefore be an insightful way to
discuss how the recent epoch changes to the economic, social, political and
technological context in which individual and society exist. Generation Y is a term
used in the popular press, company research and some academic research.
Organizations have started to recognize that Generation Y is somehow different and
have started to find out how they are different. Although Generation Y is one of the
more popular terms for this generation, there are various other terms and names have

An academic research study on what Generation Y wants from work (Terjesen et
al, 2007) found that they seek employers that invest heavily in training and
development of employees, care about their employees as individuals, present
clear opportunities for long term progression, offer a variety of daily work and
have a dynamic and a forward looking approach to their business. The research also
found that women of Generation Y were interested in a variety of elements to their
jobs, whereas men were mainly interested in salaries. Generation Y seems to value
the quality of working life: they work to live and not live to work (Asthana, 2008;
McCrindle and Hooper, 2008; Reynolds, 2008). They are constantly on through their
use of technologies and mobile devices, which seamlessly integrate previously
separate realms of paid work during the day and private life in their free time. In fact,
spending moments at work telecommunicating via information communication
technologies during their leisure time is something readily done by Generation Y.
However, at the same time, they seem unwilling to sacrifice free time if no

now one of the most popular news websites in the world. The widespread growth
of blogs, social media and user generated content have influenced the site. The
website CNN helped us find the observations (what) , examples (how) , analysis

to use the concepts. The rhetorical concepts are audience, purpose, Ethos, Logos,

and students. The reason the audience is politicians and students is because of the
titles such as Today in politics which are for politicians. The titles such as Top

overpopulation and population density
When we think of population density most people aren t positive on this is actually
means. In this essay, I will state why population density is becoming a problem in
today s society and how this is having an effect on our environment, political, and
economic state of countries. According to dictionary.com populationdensity is the
number of people living per unit of an area (e.g. per square mile); the number of
people relative to the space occupied by them
After some secondary research, I found out that the continent of Asia has the highest
population density in the world if we look at the statistics on geolounge.com the
countries with the highest population density are Asia, Africa, and North America.
If we narrow this down to induvial countries we can see from this graph on the
right that there is a cluster within Asia, the country that shows us this is China is
overpopulated because of the colour of the country and if you refer it back to the
map. Once you refer it back to the map you can see that China has approximately
150 people living per square kilometre in China, this is mainly because of highly
over populated cities in China. For example, Hong Kong, Hong Kong has a high
population density of 6,349 people living per square kilometre, which is massive
compared to different smaller countries like The Republic of China (Taiwan) who
have a population density of 639 people per square kilometre. I know this by

I Am A Neonatal Nurse
Nursing has a variety of different specialties. The specialty I am most excited for
is neonatal. Neonatal nurses are nurses who care for premature babies, otherwise
known as neonates. They have many different job responsibilities, including,
assessing a client s pain, caring for them, and understanding what is best for the
specific client. Despite all the criticism about my career choice, I have reinforced
my decision by learning about the effects of stress, the type of care nurses
implement, and best practices of neonatal nurses. Before coming to school I knew I
aspired to be a neonatal nurse, although I was not aware of everything that went
along with it. I was a premature baby, along with my older sister. We were both

This at first, did not make a whole lot of sense to me, but now it does. When a baby
has gone through stress in utero, they have built up a tolerance to stress and pain.
Their bodies have felt factors of strain, and can deal with it a lot better than babies
who have not been exposed to stressful events before. However, after a neonate is
born, it is critical to prevent stress as much as you can. Babies are constantly being
assessed, held, bathed, and fed. Swaddling has been proven to help distress neonates
by being wrapped up in a blanket tightly (Buonocore Bellieni, 2007, p. 87). You can
imagine the immediate shock neonates encounter once leaving their mother s womb.
There they desperately suffer while discovering their new, constricted condition. They
are pinned to their little bed by gravity, deprived of their usual reassuring gestures
(sucking their thumb, playing with their umbilical cord, placenta, or feet,
masturbating, or swallowing amniotic liquid) because of their lack of motor
coordination. They have lost their freedom and any kind of potential initiative; they
are now submissive and become passive. Many of them escape into their own world
and anesthetize their perceptions; they dissociate themselves, which later on will
influence their way of living. I am often brought

The best way of insuring enough magnesium is to eat a variety of whole foods,
including whole grains, nuts, seeds and vegetables, preferably food grown on

which is a molecule that contains magnesium. Avoid refined processed foods,

The Disappearance Of The Lost Colony
In 1587, one hundred ten people, including seventeen women and nine children,
sailed from Plymouth, England, during the reign of Queen Elizabeth I to start a
new life on the Outer Banks. This colony of over one hundred people disappeared
from the Roanoke Island region, never to be seen again (Kramer 2). For over 400
years, historians and archeologists have attempted to determine what happened.
Although there are several popular theories regarding the disappearance of the
Lost Colony, the theory with the most evidence for being accurate is the migration
theory. The two previous expeditions that had been sent to this region by Sir Walter
Raleigh had been unsuccessful in establishing a settlement. The first group had
simply returned to England. The second group had left fifteen men to stay on the
island to start a colony. The third group had expected to find these men when they
arrived, but the logs of Fort Raleigh had been pulled down. One corpse was found
and it became clear that the destiny of the others was not good, and none had
survived ( The Lost Colony of Roanoke 2). Prior to their departure from England
in1587, the third group of colonists was misled about the area they were sent to. The
previous expedition had compared Roanoke to the Garden of Eden saying, The earth
bringeth forth all things in abundance, as in the first creation, without toil or labor.
The soil is the most plentiful, sweet, fruitful and wholesome of all the world. Soon

International Industry Analysis Porter s Five Forces
2.3 Inter Industry Analysis Porter s Five Forces
The Strategic fit approach to management, describes that the prospect of profitability
depends largely on the firm positioning itself in an attractive industry the
attractiveness and therefore profitability is said to depend upon how competitive the
industry is, a highly competitive industry is less attractive and less profitable than an
industry where the competition is less intense. (www.netmba.com) According to
Porter s Five Forces Framework attractiveness and profitability depends upon five
elements of industry structure and how they interact determining the intensity of the
competition within the industry (Michael Porter, Competitive Strategy: Techniques
for analysing industries and competitors). Included in this chapter is an explanation
of the Five Forces and how they each affect Eurocity.
2.3.1 Rivalry amongst existing firms
Porter described that intense industrial rivalry can lead to higher costs; lower prices
and therefore lower profitability. As there are a large number of competitors with
little ability to differentiate their product, the market can be seen as very competitive
and therefore unattractive. However, there are some compensating factors; such as,
an applicant must give his permission to companies who wish to submit their CV and
in return the applicant has to confirm that no other company will submit them for the
position. This means that applicants should not be submitted by numerous

I Had Been Out Of The Hospital For Two Weeks Essay
I had been out of the hospital for two weeks. I was staying on track with my
medicine, with the help of my husband Bryon. I have been dealing with depression
for a while now and I eventually ended up being emitted to the hospital. I decided
to take time off work for a while until I got back in the swing of things. Me and my
husband Bryon decided that was the best thing to do. Every day Bryon would
make sure I took my medicine in the morning before he went to work and every
evening when he got back. That s what my psychiatrist recommended we do. I had
been suicidal, and they wanted to make sure didn t try anything to take my life.
Bryon removed all of the sharp objects from the house, like knives and scissors. I
didn t feel like all of that was necessary, but I could see why he did that with the
state of mind I was in before I was emitted to the hospital. Battling with severe
depression took a toll on me. There was no definite cause for my depression either.
It s like no matter how good things were going in my life, there would always be a
little bit of sadness that lingered. I was feeling confident that I was going to really
get better and more stable. It is just so hard sometimes to find the medicine that
worked. It is like trial and error. My medicine would have to be adjusted to get me
feeling the best I could, but I was hoping that this was a real fix. I mean I knew that
I would not always be happy because in life we all go through ups and downs, but I
just wanted to
Why Did The Black Death Occur
The Black Death arrived in Europe by sea in October 1347. It was carried by 12
trading ships docked at the Sicilian port of Messina after they traveled through the
Black Sea. When the ships docked, the people waiting at the docks were met with
horror when they saw that most of the sailors were either dead or gravely ill. They
were all covered with insane black boils that oozed blood and pus. This is what gave
the illness the name The Black Death. The Sicilian Authorities ordered that the Death
Ships were removed from the harbor, but it was too late. Little did they know, the
Black Death would kill more than 20 million people in Europe. PlagueBoils began to
appear in the groin and armpit areas. They oozed with pus and blood. These people
Cognitive behavioural therapy, an empirically validated...
Cognitive behavioural therapy, an empirically validated treatment for Major
Depressive Disorder (Robinson, Berman, Neimeyer, 1990) has featured in over 78
research studies, and is the treatment of choice when treating depression by many
clinicians. A meta analaysis completed by Dobson (1989), reviewed 28 studies
featuring cognitive therapy and depression, and found that cognitive therapy was a
more effective treatment modality than behaviour therapy, wait list control,
medication, and other therapies. A further meta analysis conducted by Gloaguen et
al., (1998) found that Cognitive behavioural therapy was equal to behaviour therapy,
and more effective than drug treatments when treating Major Depressive Disorder....

As concentration, and therefore thinking becomes more difficult for depressed
individuals, a more simplistic form of therapy, may prove to be more appropriate to
not only engage the client, but also keep their attention long enough to experience
positive effects. Cognitive behavioural therapy is a structured style of therapy
requiring direction from the clinician. Studies have found that the skill of the
therapist is directly related to the outcomes of therapy (Strunk et al., 2010). As this
style of therapy involves collaboration, as well as gentle direction by the therapist
(Sudak, 2011), an incompetent therapist can lead to therapy not being tailored to the
individual, therefore reducing therapeutic gains. Studies have found clients reported
that at times they have felt under pressure to give particular answers when receiving
CBT, or that therapy was not flexible (Barnes et al., (2013). Therefore a style of
therapy that is flexible in nature, and directed toward areas that the client most wishes
to work on may be more appropriate. Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT) is an
energy psychology therapy based on Chinese medicine and the theory of acupuncture,
using the energy meridians of the body to promote wellness (Feinstein, 2008). The
theory behind EFT suggests
A Brief Note On The Chesapeake Bay Game
In the UVA Chesapeake Bay Game, I was assigned the role of a Crop Farmer
number for the the Potomac River watershed. In the Bay game, the crop farmer
controls several things, including the type of farming used, the number of acres
used for each purpose, and the option of buying new farm equipment ( UVA Bay
Game , 2016). The types of farming used in the bay game are conventional high
yield, best management practices (BMP), advanced BMP, and sustainable ( UVA
Bay Game , 2016). These farming practices range from very poor for the Bay s
health to the most beneficial. Conventional high yield farming produces the largest
volume of crops, however uses pesticides and fertilizer that are detrimental to the
Bay s health ( UVA Bay Game , 2016). Sustainable farming is the most beneficial
for the Bay as it puts a diverse population of plants together in order to reduce
runoff, however it is more costly and has a lesser crop yield than the other farming
practices ( UVA Bay Game , 2016). The crop farmer also has an option to choose
how many acres will be used for planting, fallow land (land reserved for the next
year to maintain nutrients), and cover crops that will be used as a more natural and
environmentally sound option compared to other fertilizers ( UVA Bay Game ,
2016). From the role of a crop farmer, my goal twice a week was to maximize my
revenue while being mindful of the environmental impacts I was creating. Other than
the first simulation of the bay game, where I chose to
Struggling With Debt
Are you struggling with debt ? If so, there might be a good reason for that. Debt is
a consequence of our actions when it comes to spending money. In most cases,
people that are debt free share certain characteristics. If you truly want to be debt
free, you will need to apply these characteristics to your own life.
Four attributes of debt free people
1.They are patient. Becoming debt free and stain debt free you have to develop
patients. Individuals that are patient never buy on impulse. They have no problem
with waiting and saving for a big ticket item that they want. By practicing patience, it
eliminates the risk of spending money that is allocated to paying your bills such as
your car payment, mortgage and utilities. It also prohibits
Building Distribution Of Energy And Energy Distribution
up the process of sorting waste to ensure recyclable items and not mixed with non
recyclable objects.
Key Contributions: Helps keep cities clean which boosts the quality of life.
4.2.2. Power and Energy Distribution
Many cities are trying to adopt smart grids to efficiently manage distribution of
energy. Currently the main source of energy is coal and fossil fuels. Technological
advances have not yet reached the stage where renewable sources of energy can
sustain life globally. It has been estimated that by 2050, the world s fossil fuel might
get completely depleted. Hence it is important to conserve energy and use it
efficiently. Smart sensors can be installed in offices and homes to make sure lights
are switched off when no motion is detected in a room. Similarly, smart grids can
analyze power consumption in areas to detect anomalies in power usage.
Key Contributions: Maintains ecological balance and creates a sustainable ecosys tem.
4.3. Standard of Living
IoT and CPS can have a huge impact in standard of living and improving quality of
life. From fast emergency response to effective medical care, smart cities can have a
huge impact in affecting quality of life. 4.3.1. Quality of life
Google s NEST is a prime example of embedded systems and CPS in home
automation. These sensors include thermostats, smoke detectors and security devices
that are connected over a wireless network and can learn from surroundings to make
changes in configurations based on the user s

The Organization Of The Petroleum Exporting Countries
In December 2014, OPEC was ranked third on Lloyd s list of the top 100 most
influential people in the shipping industry. It is important to understand the mission
of OPEC is to better understand its influence and impacts on the world. According to
the OPEC website, The mission statement of OPECis as follows: In accordance with
its Statute, the mission of the Organization of the PetroleumExporting Countries
(OPEC) is to coordinate and unify the petroleum policies of its Member Countries
and ensure the stabilization of oil markets in order to secure an efficient, economic
and regular supply of petroleum to consumers, a steady income to producers and a
fair return on capital for those investing in the petroleum industry. The 13... Show

Nuclear energy is a big trend that many nations are strategically moving towards. As
a result, the OPEC nations whose economies are reliant on oil exporting are taking a
hit for the worse. For example, Saudi Arabia is considered the world s largest oil
producer. According to Investopedia it produces 13.24% of the oil consumed daily
for the world. It has the second largest oil reserve compared to Venezuela.
However, the U.S. Energy Information Administration shows that the United States
out produced the world in total petroleum and other liquids (biofuels, liquids
derived from coal, oil shale, and refinery gain production in 2014. The production
was as follows: United States 13,973,000 barrels per day (bbl/day), Saudi Arabia
11,624,000 bbl/day, Russia 10,853,000 bbl/day, China 4,572,000 bbl/day, and
Canada 4,383,000 bbl/day. If one does the math: the United States produced 31%
of the total petroleum and other fluids in a day whereas Saudi Arabia produced
25.6% (percentages out of top five producers only). It is important to note, in the
top five producing countries, there is only one OPEC nation. United Arab Emirates,
Iran, and Iraq are fourth, fifth, and sixth in the rankings. Currently, Saudi Arabia
wants to continue producing a surplus of oil because it wants to still be a major
player whereas smaller OPEC countries involved want to curb production so oil can
be at the equilibrium point on the supply and demand graph. On November 27, 2014,

Notes On Credit Default Swaps
Credit Default Swaps
Another financial vehicle that could be problematic was CDS (credit default
swap). CDS is a financial derivative works like insurance on securities. The
underwriter is obligated to pay a pre determined fee to counterparty if a certain
security default. In return, underwriters charge a fee as compensation. CDS can be
used to hedge against risks. However there are still some difference between a CDS
and an insurance contract.
The CDS does not require buyers to actually hold underlying assets. That means a
third party can insure against default risk that it would not bear the consequence at
the first place. A financial institution can act like an insurance company by selling
CDSs. American International Group (AIG) was the largest CDS underwriter during
the crisis. AIG issued tons of CDSs because historical default rate on bonds were so
low that issuing CDS became a cash generator. They simply collected the premium
and never though of paying out anything until the crisis hit.
Another thing that CDS is different from the insurance is that an insurance pool can
be much better diversified. For example, a car crash in Los Angeles will not
increase the risk of another car crash in New York since two events of car crash are
not correlated to each other. However, as mentioned before, when the house price
bubble popped, the events of defaulting on mortgage can have high correlations.
When millions of mortgages defaulted one after another, the institutes had

Strategic Marketing Objectives
Our marketing objective is to promote the BMW MINI to our target audience of
driving consumers in their mid twenties to thirties with heavy television, print, and
outdoor campaigning. The MINI will kick off its introduction with the first of seven
new TV spots breaking on October 26th during Sunday Night Football on ESPN.
The television campaign will continue to roll out over October and November on
cable networks including CNBC, CNN, MTV and VH1. The strategy is to include
this broad range of drivers offering them opportunities to take their driving experience
to a whole new level, while gaining their trust and loyalty. Spot television buys will
concentrate on morning news, prime time, late news, and weekend sporting events in
top sales markets. We want to continually focus on our message to our consumer
market of empowerment, independence, performance, value, and fun associated with
taking ownership of the new MINI.
Print advertising, which includes a large concentration of gatefolds, will include
similar messaging to that of the television ads and will begin appearing in the
October issues of more than 50 magazine titles. A special two page layout will
appear in the Wall Street Journal, along with USA Today as our development team
focuses on celebrating the reintroduction of the MINI. In addition to our print
campaign, our MarCom team and
Confidential And Proprietary Information Case Study
In 2012, Hanjuan Jin attempted to leave the country with 30,000 dollars in cash as
well as some documents from Motorola that were clearly labeled confidential and
proprietary information . Not only did Jin have information about Motorola s trade
secrets, she also had documents from the Chinese military, which could lead some
people to believe that she was doing this for the Chinese government, especially
because she had a one way ticket to China. Soon after this took place she was arrested
and then sentenced to 4 years in prison for stealing trade secrets which involved
Motorola telecommunication. The judge however did not believe that the military
documents were enough to convict her that she was attempting to benefit the Chinese
government;

  • 2. The Personality Of Francis Of Assisi Moreover, he did not even keep his drawers, but stripped himself stark naked before all the bystanders. This quote does not sound like the description of a typical Saint, but Francis of Assisi was certainly not a typical Saint. His devotion to Jesus Christ was unmatched as he dedicated his life to authentically follow the ways of his Savior. Initially, Francis undertaking of replicating the life of Jesusover a millennium removed from his time on Earth was not taken well by Italian society and many considered him to be a madman. His love for lepers and for the lowest of the low was appalling to many at the time. Ironically, his devoutness to Christianity was most threatening to the institution of the Church itself. He was accustomed to violence and even went to war in a battle between Assisi and Perugia. This all changed later, as he become truly selfless. One of his friends noticed this sudden change in Francis and asked him, Francis are you going to take a wife? In response he said, I will marry a nobler and fairer bride than you ever saw, who shall surpass all others in beauty and excel them in wisdom. The lady he was referring to was Lady Poverty. He would go on to sell off all his possessions including his own horse and attempted to give the money to the decaying St. Damian Church which the priest would not accept. It is worth noting that the priest did not take the money because he found the change of heart within Francis startling. The priest was amazed, and wondering at a change of circumstances incredibly sudden, refused to believe what he heard; and, thinking he was being hoaxed, he would not keep the offered money. The skeptical reaction of the priest shows how radical and revolutionary Saint Francis generosity was, but also how rare a man like Francis was at a this point in
  • 3. Multiculturalism in the United States Essay examples Multiculturalism in the United States The side in opposition to multiculturalism firmly believes that it weakens America by keeping immigrants from adequately assimilating to the core values of America s Anglo Protestant identity. This side believes that multiculturalism weakens the social bond of the United States by denying that immigrants need to assimilate to the language and values of the country s dominant culture. The rise of non English speaking communities is seen as a detrimental factor in the goal of achieving unity in American culture. Opponents state that immigrants coming to the United States must always lose their previous culture from their country of origin, to be able to completely assimilate to and fully embrace ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Elan Journo explains in his article, Multiculturalisms War on Education : Multiculturalism seeks to obliterate the value of a free, industrialized civilization by declaring that such a civilization is no better than primitive tribalism. We are opposed to this Some opponents argue that multiculturalism is actually racism in disguise. In their opinion, the meaning of multiculturalism is that an individual s identity and personal worth are determined by ethnic/racial membership not by his own choices and actions (Rand). This leads to the impression that a person s identity is determined by skin color, and therefore people separate into ethnic groups. Those in opposition to multiculturalism believe that college students have become racial separatists, that they form self segregated dormitories and choose friends based on ethnicity. The supporting side also believes that multiculturalism in education is an essential part of college. Studies have found that appreciation for diversity is lacking on college campuses. Evidence shows that among the growing tensions on college campuses, multiculturalism remains the most unresolved issue on campus [in the US] today (Bikson Law p. 91). Frequent campus reports of racially motivated hate crimes imply that this remains a huge issue. Proponents

The indigenous were kidnapped by the Europeans, forced to change cultures, and used for the European benefits. The indigenous life was not one of joy, but of sadness, and torture. In the 1500 s, the Beothuk peoples encountered Europeans for the first time, when they first came to fish cod, but they didn t establish a trading partnership. It wasn t until the early 1800 s when the Europeans took action and captured Beothuk peoples, Shawnadithit, her mother, and her sister, and took them back to Europe. • 9. Sociological Effects Of The Ageing Process 315321 The ageing process is a natural process that will happen to each one of us within society. These psychosocial aspects of ageing usually start to happen at an older age, but can also affect a person at a younger age. The theorist has researched and determined that there is three sort of theories that explain and demonstrate the idea, how our biological, psychological and social process changes over time. How these can affect an individual to engage and interact within society, and to adapt to social changes. Unfortunately, within these theories, there may be barriers that will reduce one s ability to reach their full potential, and this may have an adverse effect on the individual. Not all individuals find themselves in these theories. People that have dementia can become physically and mentally limited. This can have a negative impact on how the individual adapts to the society, how one communicates with others within their community and to family or friends that provide support to ensure they get the best quality of life in the future. Having researched into two of the theories and how they can give us an idea of the changes within the ageing process, one can also determine how changes with in a society can also influence the process of ageing and how an older person may appear to a younger one. Ageing is a combination of processes, biological, psychological and social process that happens to an individual as they grow older. (Giddens, 2009, pp 305 306) These
  • 10. Geography Of The Indus River Barrett, EmilyPeriod 6 4/30/15 Geography The Indus River is located on the northwestern part of the sub continent with other rivers draining into it. Another river called the Ganges River was east of the Indus River. The climate was tropical and contained seasonal winds called monsoons. Monsoons during the winter were dry and went from land to the sea, letting little rain fall on the land. During summer monsoons wet winds go from ocean to land bringing rain with it. The mountain ranges, the Himalayas and Hindu Kush, were located near the north. The first civilization in the sub continent grew around the Indus River; later another civilization grew around the Ganges River. The rivers would flood and this leaves behind rich soils which makes plentiful crops that fed the civilization. Agriculture depends on the summer monsoon. If rain comes, there are no problems, but if it comes late or not at all crops die and people starve. Since they could not always depend on the monsoons they made irrigation channels that led to their crops. The Himalayas and Hindu Kush separated the sub continent from the rest of Asia. Culture Clothing India was the first place that made and used cotton in a piece of clothing called a sari, which was worn by women. This piece of clothing was long and could be worn in different ways. Rich women wore saris made of silk. Men wore a long piece of clothing called a dhoti. Because of the destruction of the forests, the natural soil of the riverbed is eroding resulting in the loss of 400 tons of topsoil a year (CITE). The provision requires directors take any reasonable steps to prevent incurring debts and maintain the maximum abilities to pay the present creditors or protect future creditors. The ultimately objective is to protect the creditors. According to S588G, as long as the directors suspect that the company is insolvent or would become insolvent and fail to prevent a company from insolvent trading, he or she would potentially personal liable for all the debts incurred since insolvency. Under S95A, A company is insolvent if it is unable to pay all its debts when they become due for payment (Hanrahan, 2015). It is difficult for directors to figure out whether the company is temporary lack of liquidity or insolvent. Furthermore, the uncertain local and global economic conditions would make them feel hesitant about whether the decision they make will save the company not. Marxism emphasizes on the importance of class struggle in society. They thought that economic processes and class struggles laid the groundwork for every important era and movement in history, and would lead to the downfall of the upper class and the rise of an egalitarian communist society. Under capitalism, the working class or the people, own only their capacity to work; they have the ability only to sell their own labor. In this situation the circus bugs are the communist and their owner is the capitalist. This is an example of Marxism because the owner of the bugs pay them less then what they are work. They do a lot of hard labor putting on acts every night and traveling place to place but they can not control the money distribution until they leave. • 20. Essay about Lack of Reason in Shakespeare s Othello Lack of Reason in Shakespeare s Othello William Shakespeare presents the character Othello as an excellent leader in the play, Othello. The hero has strength, charisma, and eloquence. Yet Othello cannot reason. The battlefield and Senate are, at least in Othello, depicted as places of honor, where men speak truly. In addition, the matters of war and state are relatively simple; no one lies to Othello, all seem to respect him. He never even has to fight in the play, with the enemy disappearing by themselves. This simplistic view does not help him in matters of the heart. His marriage is based on tall tales and pity and his friendships are never examined; he thinks that anyone who knows him love him. Thus the ultimate evaluation of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... / Man but a rush against Othello s breast / And he retires. (V.2.320 322) Giving up is hardly Othello s style, but this is how a noble and true man should react when he has mistakenly killed his wife. However, Othello s words give a deeper insight into how he still misunderstands the situation. Who can control his fate? he asks, which gives pause to a theory of pure nobility. Placing responsibility in the stars he calls Desdemona an ill starred wench is hardly a gallant course of action. (V.2.316, 323) It is beyond a doubt Othello s fault that all of this wreckage befalls him, and his still has not had a moment of recognition of his failures at reasoning and understanding. Indeed, it is Othello s final soliloquy that ultimately seals his fate as a man who lacks critical thinking skills. This is because these are his final words, and they deal with fact, not emotion. He addresses the reasons behind his downfall, and decides how he wants others to see him, in terms of the story and how he takes responsibility for it. It is a noble speech, and a dubiously noble ending, but still, like Othello, flawed. The setting for Othello s final moments onstage is critical to how it is perceived by Othello, the other players onstage, and the audience. It lends credence to the nobility of the situation, and adds to Othello s misguided self perception. The experience, in itself, is

Rhetorical Analysis of The Killer Instinct Rhetorical analysis of The Killer Instinct (January 2000) The Killer Instinct is an article published in A Monthly Journal of Religion Public Life by Institute on Religion Public life in January 2000. This journal, which started from 1998, contains various articles with opinions, arguments, debates and commentary on religious and moral questions, and social issues going in American society. Thomas Sally, a poet and a writer, argues in the article that it s the nature of boys who constructs them rough and not the toys that create them violent. She argues with various examples from her friends and even from her own experience throughout the article making clear sense of support to her argument. This article by Thomas Sally is a successful argument appealing toward its audience with a clear and strong use of reasoning(logos), emotion(pathos) and authority(ethos) .Thomas Sally s appeal to logicis the strongest persuasive proof to her argument. The motive for her use of reasoning is strong due to the explanation of suitable examples from her real life experience on the subject. Thomas Sally explains, by reasoning, at the beginning paragraphs that a boy enjoys the warlike fascination of slashing shooting and even punching if they don t find anything. Thomas Sally uses logos as, We don t tell someone struggling with lust simply not to want sex; we don t tell a glutton that his problems will be solved if he stops being hungry. The Middle Sexes Anthony Thomas Response 1: The Middle Sexes The documentary Middle Sexes: Redefining He and She sheds light on the difficult lives of individuals who identify with the opposite gender. The writer Anthony Thomas uses biology to prove to the audience that intersexual s didn t necessarily make that choice for themselves. Thomas says that on in every hundred people is born with unidentifiable genitalia (Thomas). This is referred to as intersex. The beginning of the film focuses on a young boy named Noah who takes interest in the stereotypical girly or feminine activities. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... They should have the right to dress as they choose, love who they choose, and be who they choose. It angers me that people believe differently considering they ve never been in their shoes. In the Paradoxes of Gender Judith Lorber states, We need to change biological sex in order to uphold the principle that biological sex determine one character (41). Lorber s preconceived notion that one s sex dictates their personality is flawed. It proves that society is unaccepting of people outside of the norm . Middle Sexes speaks to a wide variety of people but is mainly directed to transphobic people. However, the film isn t very compelling because it doesn t take the audience s outlook into consideration. Through biological evidence and personal stories, the film strives to persuade transphobic people to be more accepting. Thomas attempts to persuade his target audience by referencing the science behind people who blur the lines between female and male. His unique approach is more convincing than an argument that stems from one s opinions. However, his lack of counterarguments makes it difficult for the audience to relate. All in all, the documentary The Middle Sexes covers many controversial topics. Some of these topics include the biology of middle sexes, the dangers of being a transgender, and societies outlook on transgenders. With much analysis, I ve realized that this film has too narrow of a perspective on transgenders and middle sexes. The restricted perspective prevents the audience from being
  • 23. The Importance Of Mandated Learning Goals New teachers struggle with balancing creativity and imposing guidelines and materials. Mandated learning goals are the requirements set by the Department of Education that teachers must incorporate into their curriculum. They outline the concepts that the students must understand before moving on to the next grade. For example, Missouri Public Schools require that 5th graders must be able to read with sufficient accuracy and fluency to support comprehension by the end of the school year as one of their mandated learning goals (Common Core State Standards Initiative, 2017). Learning mandates remove most opportunities for teachers to be creative with their lesson plan, because they must teach all the required material first. One teacher argued that [i]f people think of schools as buildings and do not pay attention to the people within them and the policies driving them, they do not understand what schools are and what they could be in people s lives after she had left her teaching position due to miscommunication and overbearing stipulations (as cited in Craig, 2014, p. 112). This teacher acknowledged the struggle for schools to convince the politicians in charge of the mandated learning goals to see schools as influential in the daily life of those who attend. Also, if teachers do not cover all of the required material or the students do poorly on the state exams it reflects a failure on the teachers part. Craig (2014) says the intended effect of the weeding out of

With recent changes to legalisation of child euthanasia in Belgium, the controversial issue of euthanasia is currently being re spotlighted all over the world. Ongoing active discussion on the legalisation of euthanasia mainly debates individual s choices in ending their own life. While some people believe that the act of euthanasia violates sanctity of life, others consider that one has the right to their life, and hence should be able to choose to be euthanized. Even before this research, I was interested in euthanasia area. I just knew brief information and meanings of euthanasia, but I always wanted to know more depth about euthanasia and details. This research will be focused to provide the background and concepts of euthanasia, ethical issues with euthanasia and answer the question of What do 18 25 year old Adelaide students think about legalising voluntary euthanasia in Australia? To support this, various information from literature reviews and detailed research design will also be provided. Analysis Of The Movie The Princess Bride As you wish High adventure and true love are two of the best things you could ever hope to find in a story, states Goldman, Author of The Princess Bride. In 1987 director Rod Reiner brought this classic tale to the big screen. The movie adaptation perfectly brings to life the ever enduring love between the protagonists, Westley and Buttercup. Throughout the film the pair is faced with numerous trials and tribulations that could easily shake the bond between the lovers, yet they prevail. The Princess Brideis a classic tale of romance, one that acquired quite the cult following, but most watch for the quick quips or flashy sword fights; few bother to delve deeper into the film s underlying message. This essay will explore how Goldman uses literary elements such as conflict, characterization, and mood to convey the somewhat clichГ© theme of the work. This movie is easily one of the greatest examples of love conquering all obstacles. The films begins with a grandfather reading The Princess Brideto his sick grandson. Reiner utilizes the grandfather as a narrator throughout the movie. Scenes are often interrupted by the inquisitive grandson asking probing questions in shocked dismay, such as, Is this a kissing book? The use of an omniscient narrator allows for clarification for the audience without making the story seem unnatural. He is there to provide necessary background information as well as reassure viewers during moments of tension and conflict.

Because of the obscure nature of the painting and its subjects, especially so in the context of the painting s time period, interpretations and analyses of the image are widespread. Common interpretations of the piece include that the image is a symbolic warning against shame and sin, a warning against woman s temptations, the rebirth of a joyous world, and the Garden as a Paradise Lost . In the 15th and 16th centuries, there were various controversies surrounding the papacy of the Catholic Church, as well as other matters of Catholic corruption, which would eventually lead to the reformation. Expectedly, an unsophisticated symbolic analysis of the painting may lead one to interpret the image as a representation of the Final Judgment , which is plausible given this context of Bosch s time period. Because of religious conflict and turmoil, people were likely confused and fearful of literal apocalyptic consequences. A more sophisticated allegorical analysis of the piece is instead revealing of Bosch s conceptual interpretation of the world and reality itself. The title suggests the piece contains earthly delights , yet the absence of any man like items suggests that Bosch s painting was instead metaphorically symbolic in its iconographic depictions. This colony of over one hundred people disappeared from the Roanoke Island region, never to be seen again (Kramer 2). For over 400 years, historians and archeologists have attempted to determine what happened. Although there are several popular theories regarding the disappearance of the Lost Colony, the theory with the most evidence for being accurate is the migration theory. The two previous expeditions that had been sent to this region by Sir Walter Raleigh had been unsuccessful in establishing a settlement. The first group had simply returned to England. The second group had left fifteen men to stay on the island to start a colony. The third group had expected to find these men when they arrived, but the logs of Fort Raleigh had been pulled down. As there are a large number of competitors with little ability to differentiate their product, the market can be seen as very competitive and therefore unattractive. However, there are some compensating factors; such as, an applicant must give his permission to companies who wish to submit their CV and in return the applicant has to confirm that no other company will submit them for the position. This means that applicants should not be submitted by numerous

This character, who made his debut in 2005 in The Lightning Thief, goes by the name Percy Jackson. We follow Percy s journey through five books by Rick Riordan in the Percy Jackson the Olympians series, and in another 5 books in the Heroes of Olympus series. Percy s odyssey includes overcoming many obstacles like finding his mother in the Underworld and finding his way through Daedalus Labyrinth, and meeting gods like his father Poseidon and the Queen Hera. Many of Percy s characteristics lead him to be a successful leader. Percy Jackson has many characteristics that make him a great leader. On the physical side, Percy is 5 feet 10 inches, and skinny. In The Lightning Thief, we see a major act of bravery when Percy challenges Ares to a duel. Through impossible odds, Peercy comes out on top by stabbing Ares heel. To beat a god in battle is a feat, and the one and only Percy Jackson pulled it off. In The Son of Neptune, Percy again pulls off some amazing fighting skills. In Alaska, Percy overthrows Polybotes the giant. After Polybotes claims that a demigod alone cannot defeat a giant, Percy uses a broken terminus head to defeat Polybotes. This shows that Percy was strategic enough to defeat a giant while convincing a god to aid him in defeating the enemy. In The Blood of Olympus, Percy and his six quest mates visit Athens to stop the giants from awakening Gaia. They fail, but the seven demigods manage to destroy all the giants with the aid of the gods. Zeus sends the seven back to Camp Half Blood to destroy Gaia. As a team, they get Gaia to explode so that she is powerless. The fact that Percy was even able to destroy the gods and Gaia is almost
  • 43. I Had Been Out Of The Hospital For Two Weeks Essay I had been out of the hospital for two weeks. I was staying on track with my medicine, with the help of my husband Bryon. I have been dealing with depression for a while now and I eventually ended up being emitted to the hospital. I decided to take time off work for a while until I got back in the swing of things. Me and my husband Bryon decided that was the best thing to do. Every day Bryon would make sure I took my medicine in the morning before he went to work and every evening when he got back. That s what my psychiatrist recommended we do. I had been suicidal, and they wanted to make sure didn t try anything to take my life. Bryon removed all of the sharp objects from the house, like knives and scissors. I didn t feel like all of that was necessary, but I could see why he did that with the state of mind I was in before I was emitted to the hospital. Battling with severe depression took a toll on me. There was no definite cause for my depression either. It s like no matter how good things were going in my life, there would always be a little bit of sadness that lingered. I was feeling confident that I was going to really get better and more stable. It is just so hard sometimes to find the medicine that worked. It is like trial and error. My medicine would have to be adjusted to get me feeling the best I could, but I was hoping that this was a real fix. I mean I knew that I would not always be happy because in life we all go through ups and downs, but I just wanted to

It was carried by 12 trading ships docked at the Sicilian port of Messina after they traveled through the Black Sea. When the ships docked, the people waiting at the docks were met with horror when they saw that most of the sailors were either dead or gravely ill. They were all covered with insane black boils that oozed blood and pus. This is what gave the illness the name The Black Death. The Sicilian Authorities ordered that the Death Ships were removed from the harbor, but it was too late. Little did they know, the Black Death would kill more than 20 million people in Europe. PlagueBoils began to appear in the groin and armpit areas. They oozed with pus and blood. These people

Cognitive behavioural therapy, an empirically validated treatment for Major Depressive Disorder (Robinson, Berman, Neimeyer, 1990) has featured in over 78 research studies, and is the treatment of choice when treating depression by many clinicians. A meta analaysis completed by Dobson (1989), reviewed 28 studies featuring cognitive therapy and depression, and found that cognitive therapy was a more effective treatment modality than behaviour therapy, wait list control, medication, and other therapies. A further meta analysis conducted by Gloaguen et al., (1998) found that Cognitive behavioural therapy was equal to behaviour therapy, and more effective than drug treatments when treating Major Depressive Disorder.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... As concentration, and therefore thinking becomes more difficult for depressed individuals, a more simplistic form of therapy, may prove to be more appropriate to not only engage the client, but also keep their attention long enough to experience positive effects. Cognitive behavioural therapy is a structured style of therapy requiring direction from the clinician. Studies have found that the skill of the therapist is directly related to the outcomes of therapy (Strunk et al., 2010). As this style of therapy involves collaboration, as well as gentle direction by the therapist (Sudak, 2011), an incompetent therapist can lead to therapy not being tailored to the individual, therefore reducing therapeutic gains. Studies have found clients reported that at times they have felt under pressure to give particular answers when receiving CBT, or that therapy was not flexible (Barnes et al., (2013). Therefore a style of therapy that is flexible in nature, and directed toward areas that the client most wishes to work on may be more appropriate. Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT) is an energy psychology therapy based on Chinese medicine and the theory of acupuncture, using the energy meridians of the body to promote wellness (Feinstein, 2008). In the Bay game, the crop farmer controls several things, including the type of farming used, the number of acres used for each purpose, and the option of buying new farm equipment ( UVA Bay Game , 2016). The types of farming used in the bay game are conventional high yield, best management practices (BMP), advanced BMP, and sustainable ( UVA Bay Game , 2016). These farming practices range from very poor for the Bay s health to the most beneficial. Conventional high yield farming produces the largest volume of crops, however uses pesticides and fertilizer that are detrimental to the Bay s health ( UVA Bay Game , 2016). Sustainable farming is the most beneficial for the Bay as it puts a diverse population of plants together in order to reduce runoff, however it is more costly and has a lesser crop yield than the other farming practices ( UVA Bay Game , 2016). The crop farmer also has an option to choose how many acres will be used for planting, fallow land (land reserved for the next year to maintain nutrients), and cover crops that will be used as a more natural and environmentally sound option compared to other fertilizers ( UVA Bay Game , 2016). From the role of a crop farmer, my goal twice a week was to maximize my revenue while being mindful of the environmental impacts I was creating. Other than the first simulation of the bay game, where I chose to

Key Contributions: Helps keep cities clean which boosts the quality of life. 4.2.2. Power and Energy Distribution Many cities are trying to adopt smart grids to efficiently manage distribution of energy. Currently the main source of energy is coal and fossil fuels. Technological advances have not yet reached the stage where renewable sources of energy can sustain life globally. It has been estimated that by 2050, the world s fossil fuel might get completely depleted. Hence it is important to conserve energy and use it efficiently. Smart sensors can be installed in offices and homes to make sure lights are switched off when no motion is detected in a room. Similarly, smart grids can analyze power consumption in areas to detect anomalies in power usage. Key Contributions: Maintains ecological balance and creates a sustainable ecosys tem. 4.3. As a result, the OPEC nations whose economies are reliant on oil exporting are taking a hit for the worse. For example, Saudi Arabia is considered the world s largest oil producer. According to Investopedia it produces 13.24% of the oil consumed daily for the world. It has the second largest oil reserve compared to Venezuela. However, the U.S. Energy Information Administration shows that the United States out produced the world in total petroleum and other liquids (biofuels, liquids derived from coal, oil shale, and refinery gain production in 2014. The production was as follows: United States 13,973,000 barrels per day (bbl/day), Saudi Arabia 11,624,000 bbl/day, Russia 10,853,000 bbl/day, China 4,572,000 bbl/day, and Canada 4,383,000 bbl/day. If one does the math: the United States produced 31% of the total petroleum and other fluids in a day whereas Saudi Arabia produced 25.6% (percentages out of top five producers only). It is important to note, in the top five producing countries, there is only one OPEC nation. United Arab Emirates, Iran, and Iraq are fourth, fifth, and sixth in the rankings. Currently, Saudi Arabia wants to continue producing a surplus of oil because it wants to still be a major player whereas smaller OPEC countries involved want to curb production so oil can be at the equilibrium point on the supply and demand graph. • 52. Notes On Credit Default Swaps Credit Default Swaps Another financial vehicle that could be problematic was CDS (credit default swap). CDS is a financial derivative works like insurance on securities. The underwriter is obligated to pay a pre determined fee to counterparty if a certain security default. In return, underwriters charge a fee as compensation. CDS can be used to hedge against risks. However there are still some difference between a CDS and an insurance contract. The CDS does not require buyers to actually hold underlying assets. That means a third party can insure against default risk that it would not bear the consequence at the first place. A financial institution can act like an insurance company by selling CDSs. American International Group (AIG) was the largest CDS underwriter during the crisis. AIG issued tons of CDSs because historical default rate on bonds were so low that issuing CDS became a cash generator. They simply collected the premium and never though of paying out anything until the crisis hit. Another thing that CDS is different from the insurance is that an insurance pool can be much better diversified. For example, a car crash in Los Angeles will not increase the risk of another car crash in New York since two events of car crash are not correlated to each other. However, as mentioned before, when the house price bubble popped, the events of defaulting on mortgage can have high correlations. When millions of mortgages defaulted one after another, the institutes had
