• Student Eligibility
– For student games, be eligible for recess (i.e. no lunch detention)
– For Spirit Day
• Term III grades must be As, Bs, Cs, or Ds – no Fs
• Remain suspension free and no more than 1 referral during qualification period of
Mar 3rd – Apr 3rd
• 1 referral during the qualification period will result in missing 1st half

• Phase I – Planning, Kickoff, & Promotion
– Week of Feb 24th – Communicate to school
• Phase II – Player signup & start of qualification period
– Week of Mar 3rd (MSA week)
• Phase III – Single elimination tournament
– Last 4 weeks of Mar – played during 8th grade recess
– Mar 20th -21st – Afternoon games of NCAA Tournament
– Week of Mar 31st – Spirit Week
• Phase IV – 8th grade Champion vs Staff
– Fri Apr 4th – Spirit Day (halftime band)
– Other activities will be available in addition to basketball game
• Phase V – Spirit Week party
– Fri Apr 11th - For the grade that “win” the Spirit Week competition
5. Team Construction
• No more than 8 teams
• Each team consist of 8-10 players
• Students sign up and Commissioner’s office will
determine the teams
– Make all teams as balanced as possible
– Ensure rosters are maintained
– Reduce any adverse peer pressure
• Any school/classroom designated directions (i.e.
lunch detention, ineligible for Spirit Day, etc) take
precedence over playing
• Anything not covered will be determined by the
Commissioner
6. Playing Rules (recess)
• Game consists of time remaining in recess divided
up into quarters as best as possible

1 30 sec timeout per half and each overtime
time between quarters and halftime is 1 min
• Clock is a running clock except for timeouts, free
throws, and officials determination
• Substitutions only at start of each quarter - any and
all subs will come in and an equal number will go off
• At least 2 females must be on court at all times if
available (maybe injury, fouled out, etc)
• All other rules follow National Federation of High
School (NFHS) rules
7. Playing Rules (Spirit Day)
• Game consists of 4 quarters of 5 minutes each
– Overtime period(s) of 3 minutes
– 2 x 30 sec timeouts per half and 1 x 30 sec timeout per
overtime
– Time between quarters is 1 min and halftime is 3-10 minutes
• Clock is a running clock except for timeouts, free
throws, whistles within last minutes of quarter, and
officials determination
• May allow more substitutions opportunities
depending on number of players
