Today, we are at another cross roads , similar to what we saw in the late 90’s. As much as Google and SalesForce.com has popularized the notion of cloud computing, it is the underlying infrastructure that is enabling this to happen together. The whole emerging class of Web 2.0 and cloud-computing applications and services requires a very, very robust infrastructure to support them. One analyst recently was quoted as saying “ Without these strong underpinnings, cloud computing is like a fancy apartment building without plumbing or electricity”. We would tend to agree. So the excitement isn’t just in what the cloud can do, but how it can enable large, traditional style enterprises to be able to start delivering IT as a service to any end user, at any time, in a highly responsive way. It is the convergence of these two styles of computing that will bring about a completely new way of handling the data center. And we call this the “new enterprise data center’.

This slide introduces the concept that there are 3 identified “layers” of services that can be delivered or acquired through a cloud computing model.
Talking Points:Virtualization alone is not enoughNeed a dynamic, request driven management layer – which provides Through our engagements with customers, we have built templates to help quickly deploy applications on the cloudScenario1. Chris is a PM of a new 3 month long development project starting in one week. Needs a development env. for this project. Logs into CCMS (Self-service Admin Portal).2. Chooses 'Software Development' workload pattern.3. Specifies a team size as 10.4. CCMS invokes Sonoma++ (capacity planning tool) to do the sizing, and presents a list of software and hardware that can meet the need.5. Chris accepts the list and agrees to the cost shown, and places the order specifying the start date of his project.6. CCMS passes the order details to Zephyr to generate the deployment plan.7. CCMS then executes the deployment plan using TPM.8. Chris gets and email with the details about his newly setup development environment.9. CCMS sends Chris weekly reports the usage details of the servers which are monitored by Tivoli Monitoring products.10. At end of project CCMS marks the resources as \"available\" for new requests.ISM Product MappingSelf-service Admin Portal Maximo (SRM – Service Request Management)Entry needs to be added into the Service Catalog….this is where HiPODS provides value. Workload Management Maximo + IntelligenceMaximo does have some workload management capabilities, but in order for them to be applied dynamically, need the HiPODS assets.Workload Pattern Templates HiPODSThis piece is where HiPODS assets and experience bring value to Maximo. Maximo itself does not have templates / admin workflows for patterns such as software development, technology incubation, innovation enablement, and large scale information processing. From our experience with customers, we have built software templates, TPM workflows, administration workflows to handle. Provisioning TPMCurrently not integrated with Maximo but there are plans that TPM 7.1 will be integrated into MaximoAdministration Workflows Maximo Workflow EngineMaximo does have administration workflows. They are customizable. HiPODS brings value to Maximo because we have Monitoring ITM, ITUAMThis can be done as a separate integration into Maximo, either plugged in through API or a launch in context. SLA and Capacity Planning TSLA, ITIL ProcessesThere are some capacity planning / SLA capabilities that are being developed. HiPODS OPERA/SONOMAOther Points:HiPODS also adds the value of reserving virtual machinesHiPODS wrote the automation code for reserving virtual machinesSimpler GUI
Talking Points:Blue Cloud is the first step to realizing the dynamic, virtualized and request driven New Enterprise Data Center.Factoids:Q. What is IBM's \"Blue Cloud?\"Blue Cloud is a series of cloud computing environments based on open standards and open source software together with IBM software, systems, technology and services. Blue Cloud targets our clients who want to explore the extreme scale of cloud computing infrastructures quickly and easily. We are collaborating on cloud computing initiatives with select corporations, government agencies, universities, and Internet-based enterprises.Q. What is IBM announcing today?A. IBM is announcing plans for “Blue Cloud,” which the company anticipates will be a series of cloud computing environments based on open standards and open source software together with IBM software, systems technology and services. Q. Does IBM have any customers for Blue Cloud?A. IBM and the Vietnamese Ministry of Science and Technology (MoST) announced an open innovation pilot program that would run on a cloud computing infrastructure. The VISTA Innovation Portal (VIP) created with IBM, will help provide Vietnamese communities and residents a dynamic, rich content source and foster innovation among the citizens, communities and government organizations.Recently, we also signed a significant deal with Wuxi municipal government to setup the “China Cloud Computing Center” which will be a shared facility for the companies setting up offices in the Wuxi technology park. This center will be based on the blue cloud offerings.

The Sogeti Innovation Event is sponsored by Michiel Boreel, Sogeti Group CTO, and supported by Luc-Francois Salvadore, Sogeti Group CEO.Technical targets:- 1000-3000 active participants- Availability to all Sogeti employeesBusiness targets:- Unify the company. Sogeti is highly decentralized, wants to improve its sense of being \"one company\"- Foster innovation internally, and transform the mindset to one of innovation.- Change client perception of Sogeti to one of an innovative company.- Create ideas that will result in improved value for Sogeti clients.- Create ideas that can result in improved contribution (profit) margins for Sogeti.Their IT is handled individually within each country, so they may not make a good candidate for buying a cloud. They are also an SI, so it goes against Dennis' strategy for cloud as they might want to resell it.
