Essay On Teaching Style
Introduction Teacher effectiveness has been an ongoing topic of interest among educational
researchers for many years, with considerable focus given to the specific traits and behaviors that
are believed to constitute effective teaching. There is no absolutely right or wrong method or
technique to teach, and teachers need to change their approach in different circumstances. Different
teachers may be required to use different teaching strategies and styles in the same situations due to
the differences in their teaching styles, personality types, and beliefs in teachers abilities in
improving learners achievement. Teaching style plays a vital role in the development of teachers
professional expertise (Akbari, Mirhassani, Bahri, 2005). It is always persistent with teachers
personality type and varies among individuals (Cooper,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Many studies stress the effect of teaching style on learners achievements (Conti, 1985; Miglietti
Strange, 1998). Teaching style refers to a predilection toward teaching behavior and the congruence
between educators teaching behavior and teaching beliefs (Heimlich Norland, 1994, p.34). In fact,
teaching styles are reflections of a combination of teachers theoretical assumptions and actual
teaching practice. Jarvis (2004) provides a more vivid account of teaching style and believes that a
style is the totality of one s philosophy, beliefs, values, and behaviors, and it incorporates the full
implementation of this philosophy; it consists of substantiation and support of beliefs about values
and attitudes toward elements of the student learning and teacher learning exchange (p. 40).
According to the results of the mentioned studies about teaching styles, it is obvious that by being
aware of these styles, teachers can improve their effective teaching and their students learning by
using the appropriate style in specific

Labour Movement History
The labor movement in the United States developed and expanded out of the desire to guard and
defend the general concern of employees. For individuals in the manufacturing and engineering
segments, organized labor unions disputed for improved, higher paying wages, sufficient hours and
harmless working surroundings or environments (Schaller 662). The labor movement also raised
concerns for efforts to discontinue child labor, offer health benefits and supply assistance to
workers who had been injured or retired. Between 1860 and 1910 the population of the United
Statesmore than tripled, and so did the industrial work force (Schaller 645). New types of
profitable enterprise sprung up to stand at the side of the pre Civil War textile industrial... Show

The Knights of Labor unification, founded in 1869, took the association to a new altitude,
portraying a national connection (Schaller 665). The philosophy of the Knights was to consist of
anyone engaged in manufacturing, which helped its numbers enlarge (Schaller 665). The union
was greatly controlled under the command of Terence Powderly and recruited politics to help
battle its variety of foundations (Schaller 665). The Knights of Labor acknowledged that an injury
to one is the concern of all, insisted on having only eight hour shifts, did not agree that child labor
was acceptable, and accentuated worker instruction and supportive foundations (Schaller 665).
However, events unexpectedly took a turn for the worse in 1886 when the Haymarket rebellion
saw the idea of the Knights, overshadowed by the fatality of police officers and civilians and fifty
innocent people wounded in a bomb blast (Schaller 665). Community judgment turned not to be in
favor of the revolutionary movement in general and the union collapsed (Schaller

Value Maximization Is Not The Optimal Approach
Enhanced Value Maximization. According to HBS Professor Michael C. Jensen (2000), pursuing
only one objective, i.e. profit maximization is not the optimal approach. A manager must develop a
structure that will help employees to resist the temptation to maximize the short term financial
performance of the organization as that s a sure way to destroy value. Though, a manager needs to
take into account the impact of their decisions on all the stakeholders as the first step towards value
maximization, the stakeholder theory falls short in describing how managers should make the
necessary tradeoffs among competing interests of its stakeholders. Jensen writes in his paper that a
manager needs to make necessary tradeoffs among the interest of... Show more content on

Managers are looking to globalize operations, developing new markets for their products for better
strategic business outcomes. Consumers have better access to a greater variety of goods and
services and competition to reach to the new markets with the right product is getting stronger
among businesses. Globalization also gives businesses better access to a global workforce, enables
them to tap into international raw materials and financial resources. As the world economy is fast
becoming a single interdependent system, businesses have competitors, customers, employees from
anywhere in the world. As indicated in the article Leading in a Globalizing World , the author
emphasized that being successful in the global business environment takes special skills. As global
managers, the biggest challenge is to improve upon their ability to deal with ambiguity, complexity,
and diversity. Understanding the bigger picture and acquiring the global vision is the key, i.e.
staying informed what the competitors are doing, what customers prefer at different markets. For
example, a global manager needs to understand that a customer in China might probably have
different preferences than a customer living in Europe. As complex as business is today, it is
important to recognize that a manager would never have all the information / details before making
a decision. Taking a moderate amount of risks

Fire And Post Fire Management
Introduction
In 2005, Pomeroy, Washington experienced a storm with multiple lightning strikes causing
ignitions that started a large scale fire. This was designated as the School Fire Complex the
location of our study (Figure 1). The fire burned for fourteen days, consuming 21,000 hectares of
land, including 87 buildings and 56% of the Umatilla National Forest Land. Almost half the
federally owned land had been previously thinned for fire management (MODIS 2005). During
the 2015 Fire Ecology and Management class (FOR 326) field trip to the School Fire Complex, the
class surveyed a series of sites in order to create a research project to obtain a better understanding
of fire and post fire management. The goal of this research is to ... Show more content on

Both hypothesizes can be combined to one; that if an area is high severity, high pre fire density, and
logged (HHL) it will have a higher density than the high severity, low pre fire density, and logged
(HLL).
Methods
The lands that burned during this fire were mainly comprised of a mixed conifer forest. The main
tree species found before and after the fire are Douglas fir, grand fir, Pinus ponderosa (ponderosa
pine; PIPO), and Pinus contorta (lodgepole pine; PICO). Other species found include other
varieties of spruce, pine, and larch. In some areas of the site a rich understory has formed or still
exists; these were dominated by Salix scouleriana (Scouler s willow; SASC) with a limited
variety of forbs present beneath the shrubs. Post fire management tactics included salvage logging
and grass seeding. This seeding of native grasses was spread across burned areas in combination
with mulch in the form of agriculture straw as well as shredded wood strips (Robichaud, 2009).
In order to collect data, protocol was followed as described in by P. Morgan and P. Higueraa s
(YEAR)School Fire Field Trip Handout and Assignment packet. In September 2015 the FOR 326
class from University of Idaho followed this protocol to find and collect data from 32 sites on two
different days. To determine site locations, trip leaders took each group to a random pre determined
area that corresponded with fire

Essay on Dr. Mengele
The life story of Josef Mengele is one that is filled many twists and turns that play out like a
suspense story with an ending that does not seem to fit what one would expect. The authors of the
book Mengele: The Complete Story, Gerald L. Posner and John Ware, wrote this book largely with
information taken from diaries and letters of Mengeleamp;#8217;s, and interviews with those who
knew him. It is a look into the life and times of a man whose nickname was amp;#8220;The Angel
of Death. ; Josefamp;#8217;s life and post mortem fate could be divided into three different
chapters. His pre war life and life during World War II was one of privilege and freedom to satisfy
his perverse desire to perform bizarre and mostly useless medical... Show more content on

However, this man who exhibited a sense of strength and fierceness to his victims was neither
physically or emotionally strong. He was very insecure about his physical appearance, and
constantly thought people were out to get him. He felt he had to belittle others accomplishments
in order to make himself feel more confident. Mengele especially hated gypsies, and viewed them
as more of a subspecies than other groups he killed. The following passage, which comes from
Mengele amp;#8217;s arrest warrant, which detailed his heinous crimes, illustrates his disregard for
their lives:
amp;#8220;..On May 25th, 1943, Mengele sent 1035 gypsies suspected of typhus to the gas
chamber, and on May 25th and 26th he spared those Gypsies who were German while he sent
approximately 600 others to be gassed. ;(p. 25 par.1)
What is ironic about this hatred is that Mengele himself was far from being considered physically
superior to anyone. In fact, amp;#8220;since childhood, he had been self conscious of his slightly
tawny skin, his penetrating brown green eyes, and his dark hair. At school he endured taunts from
his classmates about his Gypsy looks. ;(p. 25 par. 2) It could be seen that his contempt for Gypsies
might have arisen due to trauma he endured during childhood from others, as well as a self imposed
trauma he brought upon himself, due to his

A Response to Embroidery by Ray Bradbury Essays
A Response to Embroidery by Ray Bradbury
The short story Embroidery , written by Ray Bradbury is one, which could be classed as a
science fiction story with some political aspects to it. Embroidery ends in apocalyptic terms,
where an atom bomb is dropped. Written in the 1960 s meant that the cold war was still going on
and being hit by an atomic bomb was highly possible. I think that because of this a general reader
reading this story in the time it was written would have found this story frightening and at that time
the story may haven even been slightly controversial.
From a feminists point of view this text would be looked upon with quite a lot of interest. Firstly,
the short story was ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I ll just have to rip the whole pattern, practically, to fix it right. The man is ripped out entirely from
the scene, rather then just having his face corrected. This could signify women s everlasting
struggle with men, and also on a more gender equality related issue, how these women are in
control of the men in their lives, choosing not to have them at all, implying that men are an almost
annoyance to women and they would much rather have them out of their lives then have them as
they are. These women seem to be living fine as they are however their situation is hardly the scene
pictured in the embroidery.
A feminist reader may dislike this story because firstly, the women in the story could be though of
as stereotypical. The embroidery itself serves as an activity commonly associated with women and
I think that a feminist reader would rather dismiss these stereotypes. Also, the story has a political
agenda behind it as well as being fictional. It was written during the arms race of the fifties between
the US and Russia when an atomic bomb hitting either one of these

What Is The Mood Of The Passionate Shepherd To His Love
The Elizabethan Era author and playwright, Christopher Marlowe, was a romantic writer who
came before his time. Being born hundreds of years before the romantic period around 300 to be
exact, his poem The Passionate Shepherd to His Love, could have and would have fallen
perfectly within the style of the romantic time period. In the poem, the shepherd beckons to his
love, who has not yet accepted his advances. He entices her with promises of lush fields, beds of
roses and the opportunity to dance and sing when she pleases. He uses precise and beautiful words
to lure and persuade the woman of his dreams to live with him and enjoy his bounties. Throughout
the poem he boasts of dressing her in gowns of the finest wool, slippers and belts with... Show more

For example, imagery is used immensely. Marlowe writes of A belt of straw and ivy buds,
/ With coral clasps and amber studs... (Greenblatt). This type of precise, picturesque imagery
further proves the point this could be a romantic poem, adding to the tone of the full text. To
describe something as beautifully as Marlowe did shows the love the shepherd feels toward the
woman in the poem. Also, alliteration is accomplished as Marlowe articulates ideas on the page.
There are many examples offered in the text, such as: ...mind may move..., ...pleasures prove...,
and ...feed their flocks... (Greenblatt). This device allows the text to be more like a song, letting
the reader s words flow off the tongue in a tantalizing manner. To continue, the poem also
contains consonance. In the line stating That valleys, groves, hills, and fields... the end of the
words in this line almost all end with the s sound (Greenblatt). Just like the use of alliteration, the
device of consonance assists the poem in flowing off the tongue and creating more of a song
than a poem. Additionally, Marlowe uses symbolism; however, it is not used quite as literally as
some other pieces of text. It is common for a rose to symbolise love or many other feelings of
the human heart, so it makes sense for the author to use it in line nine, where it is written, And I
will make thee beds of roses... (Greenblatt). Also, in the fourth stanza, Marlowe could be making
a nudge at innocence when he writes about pretty lambs, and the purest gold. To further the
poem being a lyrical text, there are examples of enjambment that creates even more of a flow to
each line. Come live with me and be my love, / And we will all the pleasures prove / That valleys,
groves, hills, and fields, / Woods, or steepy mountain yields.

Rfid ( Radio Frequency Identification ) Essay
RFID (radio frequency identification) uses radio waves to transmit information between RFID
tags (chips) and RFID readers (What is RFID?, n.d.). There are two basic types of RFID tags.
Active tags are larger and more expensive because they require an independent power supply to
function, passive tags are cheaper, smaller and do not need a separate power supply (The Different
Types of RFIDSystems, n.d.). Initially, we will be implementing the use of passive RFID tags,
which will help control the costs of this project. Once the RFID project is functioning according to
our expectations, we will expand our RFID system to include the use of active RFID tags. The
implementation of RFID technology will require a significant financial investment for a system
wide implementation. Depending upon the extent of our investment in RFID technology, we could
enhance our control of access to certain areas, improve inventory management, and monitor our
patients movements throughout our RFID equipped facilities (Niles, 2015, p. 384)
Phase one of the RFID implementation project will increase the security of our facilities and
parking structures. All hospital staff will be issued new employee identification badges that have
integrated RFID tags inside of them. Instead of replacing current badges, we have the option to
issue RFID sticker tags to be placed on the back of their current ID badge. The use of RFID Stickers
will be substantially cheaper than replacing all existing badges. The RFID

There made its appearance that deadly pestilence, which, whether disseminated by the influences
of the celestial bodies, or sent upon us mortals by God in His just wrath by way of retribution for
our iniquities, had its origin some years before in the East, whence, after destroying an innumerable
multitude of living beings, it had propagated itself without respite from place to place, and so,
calamitously, had spread abroad into the West .
These are the lines from Giovanni Boccaccio s magnum opus The Decameron , which consists of
various tales narrated by seven young women and three young men seeking refuge in a secluded
villa outside Florence to escape from one of the greatest catastrophies in human history. The Black

BALAENOPTEROIDS (CETACEA, MYSTICETI): IMPLICATIONS ON FOSSIL CETACEAN
PALEOECOLOGY AND BIOLOGY
KERR, Tyler J., University of Wyoming, Laramie, WY, United States, 82071
BACKGROUND
Whales (Cetacea) are unique among mammals in that they possess exceptionally dense,
pachyosteosclerotic tympanic bullae1. Along the margin of the bulla is a highly mineralized,
extremely dense wall of bone called the involucrum that serves as a special adaptation to life in the
sea and as a means to facilitate sound reception and directionality underwater2,3,4. Moreover, this
cetacean synapomorphy plays an important role in distinguishing its members from the ancestral
terrestrial artiodactyls from which whales diverged5. When cut into cross sections, the involucral
region of the tympanic bullae in many mysticete (baleen whale) lineages reveals three easily
distinguishable zones of concentric laminar growth. Here we hypothesize that these three distinct
zones identified along the length of the tympanic bullae are capable of recording life history events
during early development, when the cetacean tympanoperiotic region is known to be rapidly
ossifying6. We propose that the innermost zone (1) represents rapid in utero growth, the
intermediary zone (2) represents rapid birth and postnatal development, and the outermost zone (3),
markedly thinner, represents slower, more lamellar development from weaning on through
adulthood.

Cyber Bullying Is Not A New Phenomenon
Producing Danger
Bullying in school is not a new phenomenon; it is as old as the education system. In texts as ancient
as the Bible examples are explicit and evident. Throughout the ages bullying has been a tragic and
catastrophic element that seems inevitable as it affects the lives of its victims. The fundamental
purpose of a school is to educate and coach children in their emotional, cognitive, civic, vocational,
and social development. On the contrary, however, schools are generating cutthroat, cruel, and
isolated environments as oppressive social hierarchies are formed to comply with stereotypical
gender traits. From ancient times to present day, bullying has always taken place. It may be
delivered physically, verbally, and now even... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The Story of Joseph, in the book of Genesis, struck me as a primeval example of bullying dating
back to 5th century BCE. Joseph was the 11th son of Jacob and was born to Jacob s favorite
wife, Rachel. At the age of 17, Joseph was a shepherd alongside 11 of his brothers. His father,
Jacob, displayed much more love to Joseph than any of his other sons, so much so that he gave
Joseph a one of a kind coat of many colors (Genesis 37:23). The other brothers were jealous of
Joseph and distained him. Joseph only further provoked this hatred when he told his brothers
about two of his dreams he had of the family. The brother s tolerance only lasted so long. When
the brothers saw him alone in a field, they plotted to kill him. When Joseph approached, they
tore off his special coat and threw him into a pit. His brother, Judah, came up with the idea to sell
Joseph into slavery. The brothers then dipped his coat into goat blood brought it back to Jacob.
Jacob recognized the coat and concluded that a beast had killed his son, while in reality; he was in
a caravan heading towards Egypt.
There is no denying the raised awareness about bullying today than in past years. Although bullying
has always existed, only recently has it been systematically measured. It was only in the 1980 s
when Dan Olweus conducted initial studies on Norwegian and Swedish students. This account of

Financial Planning Career
For my occupation I chose Financial Planning. I chose financial planning because I like helping
other people and balancing their life. Being a financial planner would also help me balance my life
and have everything in order. A financial plan is a full evaluation of a person s current and future
finances in a given time, and taking this information to plan the future.
Financial planning started in the 1960s, after the World War 2. When World War 2 ended people
started creating careers to help Americans that were struggling succes. On December 12th of 1969
13 men gathered and created this profession. It started getting bigger and bigger over the years, they
started creating new things like the Institute of Certified Financial Planners and many other creative
things.
There were many earlier pioneers in the field of financial planning. One of the first and most
important was Donald Pitti. His role was significant because he worked successfully for the
financial planning association. Long after his role was changed, he would still be admired for his
countless efforts towards this profession.

Mallard s Demise
Louise Mallard s Demise in The Story of an Hour by Kate Chopin Kate Chopin s short story, The
Story of an Hour , is about a woman, named Louise Mallard, in the late 1800s who is told that her
husband, Brently, has died in a railroad accident. Initially, Louise is surprised, distressed, and
drowned in sorrow. After mourning the loss, the womanrealizes that she is finally free and
independent, and that the only person she has to live for is herself. She becomes overwhelmed
with joy about her new discovery of freedom, and dreams of all of the wonderful events in life
that lie ahead of her. Louise s sister finally convinces her to leave her room and come back into

Either way, it can be interpreted that the couple never saw each other before Louise died.
Therefore, Louise Mallard may have simply passed away from a heart that was exhausted from her
strong initial grief of losing her husband and her new adventurous excitement from gaining freedom
(Cunningham 3). The unique ending of The Story of an Hour also contains some irony. During the
1800s, which is the time period that Chopin wrote this short story, men held more respect than
women in society, and women were expected to be dependent upon a husband. A critic, Emily Toth,
states that Chopin may have included Louise s death at the end of the story to please authors and
editors because presenting that a woman may be able to happily live without a husband in the
1890s would be a fanatic idea (Cunningham 4). The multitude of conservative readers in the
1890s could interpret that Louise passed away because she was too independent, but the actual
meaning of the death may have very well been because of Louise s joy from finally being
dismissed from her husband s control. By using irony, Chopin was able to both please the critics
of her time period, and prove a hidden point that women can find joy without a man. Over all, in

Pros And Cons Of Fordism
Fordism a good idea or a bad one?
The purpose of this paper is to state that Fordism was not a stable production system, even though it
achieved great success when it was first applied by Henry Ford. The Fordism production method
will be critically assessed on the segregation it built between workforce and management and how it
established a dominant American industry. The study will also define the concept of Fordism and
how it influenced the motor vehicle industry, in which this production model was first implemented.
By the beginning of the 20th century technology had become advanced enough to introduce the
motor vehicle. Despite this, for many years the automobile remained an expensive luxury item
created by craftsmen. It was something only the wealthy could afford. That was until Henry Ford, a
son of the Scientific Movement of Management, developed a new line of thought. He wanted to
make cars available to the masses by changing the production process in a way that would reduce

Witchcraft And The Social History Of Early Modern Europe
With a survey of history, it is evident that our world has encountered a broad range of cultures
throughout time. Each culture is characterized by their own special practices. Bever (2002)
samples one of these practices in his extensive journal on the social history of early modern
Europe. The cultural puzzle that Bever mainly focuses on is witchcraft and its social prevalence
in European history. Before delving into Bever s work, I believe that is is important to reflect
upon Harris s (1989) quote: If you don t think a puzzle has an answer, you ll never find it (p.5). It
is important to apply this idea to culturestudies. Essentially, Harris is saying that if one were to
automatically dub foreign culture practices as insane or assume

Benito Mussolini, AKA Il Dulce
Benito Mussolini, known as Il Duce, was the founder of the totalitarian form of government known
as Fascism. However that was not enough recognition; Mussolini wanted to demonstrate to the
world that he could be a successful ruler as well. Mussolini came to power and remained in power
primarily due to the actions of the Italian Blackshirts. As the Blackshirts maintained law and order,
terrorized political opponents, defended Italy, and marched on Rome, Mussolini successfully ruled
as dictator.
Controlled and led by Mussolini, the Italian Blackshirts also known as the Squadre d Azione,
were made up of war veterans and young people led by ringleaders. The Blackshirt uniform
consisted of a green jacket and trouser with a black shirt and tie. The green colors were similar
to that of the army uniforms, but the black shirt and tie differentiated the Blackshirts from the
other combat forces. The Blackshirts were first created on March 23, 1919 and played a vital
role in the rule of Mussolini. Benito Mussolini s rise to power primarily relied on the Blackshirts
march on Rome. On October 24, 1922, Mussolini hosted a Fascist convention in Naples as the
reason for the March on Rome. There he declared, Either the government will be given to us, or we
will seize it by marching on Rome. Mussolini s plan was to threaten to occupy the nation s capital
of Rome with his forces, the Blackshirts, and pressure King Victor Emmanuel III into inviting him
into the government.

Relationship Between Sexuality And Identity
Discuss the relationship between sexuality and identity in Fun home.
This essay will be examining the relationship between sexuality and identity in the book, Fun
Home (2006) by Alison Bechdel. Bechdel s memoir Fun Home explores the way gender and sexual
identity play important roles in the world. It frames the discovery that Bechdel when she was a
young girl realised she was a lesbian, whilst at the same time finding out that her father is also
homosexual and had been sexually active with males throughout his marriage to her mother,
destroying their relationship. Through the use of visual comic pictures and writing, the books
central themes challenge cultural norms of sexual and gender identity. It questions how associated
a daughters open lesbian identity is with her fathers closeted gay one. Bechdel s sexual discovery
throughout the book, is always linked to her father Bruces sexual identity and it is possible to say
that it had an effect on her own sexuality. She provides the reader with a sample of the identity
struggle both her and her father suffered with to illustrate the experience they both had. The images
within the text give only a small amount of information, where as the text is the most important
element. This essay will explore whether sexuality and identity can be seperated, or whether your
sexuality frames who you are with reference to Watson (2008), Freud (1920) and Fantasia (2011),
whilst giving an analytical view at the text Fun home.

create the light bulb? It took him a lot of time because he was going around the world. Thomas
Edison had lots of inventions like the light bulb and the phonograph. He was born in Milan, Ohio
on February 11, 1847 he was the inventor of major technology. The labs he had were developed
like the telegraph, light bulb, phonograph, kinetograph and alkaline storage batteries. Thomas
Edison died in west orange, New Jersey on October 18, 1931. Thomas mother was a teacher in
Canada. He was getting sick like when he was 15 years old he got ear infections. And then he

The Growth Of Population Growth Essay
The present rate of population growth is one of the most significant environmental issues we as
humans are facing. The exponential growth at which the population is moving is having direct
impacts on climate, energy, poverty, food, the global economy, and politics (Why Population
Matters). The world populationis currently 7.3 billion people and there is growing doubt that the
planet is able to sustain human needs and resource consumption (Population Concern). The
expansion of human population is impacting countries, societies, and cultures around the world
differently. These differences can occur due to, environmental, political, and societal factors that
can determine the severity of the issue and how the country decides to respond. The population
is growing at exponential rates and can be expressed by calculating the double time, which is the
number of years it takes for population size to double (Harper, Chapter 5). For developed
countries, the calculated double time is longer than that of a developing country (Harper, Chapter
5). The first case study under analysis is that of Rwanda, one of the poorest nations in the world,
which therefore has one of the lowest double time growths (Harper, Chapter 5). Food scarcity and
violence are the stories of Rwanda s fate and is outlined in Jared Diamond s book, Collapse . The
second case study being examined is China s human population growth, which is not only
negatively impacting its own country, but impacting others at a

Gender Barriers inside Sports Essay
Gender Barriers inside Sports
Throughout the history of sports, there has always been a gender barrier. There are certain sports
that are aimed towards females and others that are directed towards males. When men or women
enter a non traditional sport for their gender, it is not widely accepted. However, there are those
few athletes that pave the way for the rest and eventually our society will change and accept the
new ideas in sports. Some people will always make judgments about the athletes who cross that
gender barrier. At the same time there are others who will respect and look up to these athletes as
role models who they will someday follow.
In the movie Pumping Iron II, women bodybuilders are faced with judgments about their ... Show

Many young boys are faced with this thought every day, because they are males participating in
non traditional sports for their gender. Just as society does not agree with women in men s
sports, it does not look highly upon men taking part in women s sports either. In the article,
Stereotypes Are Often Overrated, a young boy named Daniel Hile who is a sophomore in high
school had always wanted to join ballet, but never did. Instead, he picked Tae Kwon Do and
weightlifting, which are considered to be more masculine sports. He says that ballet is not
accepted in his close minded and conservative hometown and they stereotype male ballet dancers
as being homosexuals (Stereotypes). Another ballet dancer named Julio Bragado Young who is
20 years old, says that he was always teased in school, because of his love for dance. Jocks would
call me fag, sissy, pansy and stuff (Stereotypes).
Bill May, a 21 year old from Cicero, NY, has always wanted to compete in the Olympics for
synchronized swimming. However, it has always been strictly limited to females only. Fortunately,
on September 14, 2000, FINA (Federation Internationale de Natacion Amateur) approved men s

Social Media s Negative Effects On College Athletes
The number of coaches and teams who don t allow players to use social media has decreased in
recent years[...]as coaches realize that many players will use them anyway(Deshazo 2). Social
media has become one of the easiest ways to speak your mind and have your voice heard.
However, with power comes responsibility, if athletes are not extremely careful about what they
choose to announce, it can be dangerous for their career. There has been a numerous amount of
cases where an athlete post or says something that they should not have and it costs them their
career. Social media can be dangerous for athletes because it can ruin their good reputation and it
can become a huge distraction to their career. Social media can put an athlete`s... Show more

If an athlete receives criticism through social media, it can affect their mental game. It can
make them feel pressured or it can bring them down. Athletes are still considered human and can
still get their feelings hurt. It`s not easy performing for your college, state, or even nation.
Adding onto that, criticism is the last thing that athletes need. Regardless of how good or bad of
a player you are, there will always be those fans that say rude and inappropriate comments on
social media, there is no way to avoid it. A published study found that distractions and criticism
can drain mental energy leading to a decrease in how good they perform (Cohn 1). The best
thing for athletes to do is just ignore the criticism by not even going on social media at all.
Social media makes athletes feel as if they need to perform good for online glory. It is proven
that social media can become a distraction and interfere with an athlete`s ability to focus on their
sport (Puymbroeck 1). Receiving distractions can provoke a negative mood and stress, which can
then take up mental energy. The athlete will feel down and will not perform at their best. When
the athletes goes on social media and reads comments and fans taunting them, they can feel as if
they aren t good enough or that they don t belong on the team. The story of Ricky Williams is one
that will never be forgotten. Ricky played in the NFL and ended up

Compare And Contrast Tocqueville And Crevecoeur
People in Great Britain wanted to escape the aristocracy and establish freedom for themselves
and their families. The writings of Alexis de Tocqueville, in Democracy in America, and J.
Hector St. John Crevecoeur s, Letter from an American Farmer, helped catapult the idea of
America being this new land of the brave and free. According to Tocqueville, American became
a place where the Puritans found freedom for themselves. The Puritans really pushed for
democracy and equality in this new land as a vast dichotomy of what they escaped in Britain.
America being a place of democracy that was not dependent upon a royal family and aristocracy
for ruling was a source of pride for the people and made America unique. Additionally, the idea of
its people having power, rights, and a constitution to protect that supported the idea of equality and
liberty. Crevecoeur stated, He persecutes nobody, and nobody persecutes him, he visits his
neighbors, and his neighbors visit him. There is the idea that in America one can be themselves and
everyone has the same basic human rights. Crevecoeur s writing differed from Tocqueville in the
accuracy of America at the time and how accessible the American Dream actually was for all of the
people living in America. The writings of Tocqueville and Crevecoeur highlight these great
accomplishments by Americans and shifts the narrative of America being run by natives and
British immigrants to American being run by Americans. Alexis de Tocqueville
, in Democracy in
America, initiated a trend in American studies by examining the shift from aristocracy to
democracy. This new world run by the people and not by kings was fascinating at the time and
very different, thus making America unique. Democracy was especially a source of pride in
America because it actually worked unlike in other places, like France. Tocqueville states, The
government democracy brings the notion of political rights to the level of the humblest citizens,
just as the dissemination of wealth brings the notion of property within the reach of all the
members of the community; and I confess that, to my mind, this is one of its greatest advantages.
This became a catalyst for a shift in American studies because essentially

Comparison of Antibiotic Resistance of Serratia marcescens to Streptomycin and Ampicillin
Abstract
The purpose of this study and experiment was to analyze and compare the relative antibiotic
resistance of the gram negative bacterial species Serratia marcescens to the antimicrobial species
streptomycin and ampicillin. Preceding researches have shown that streptomycin has a stronger
effect on the bacteria species than the ampicillin. In this experiment, the disc diffusion method has
been introduced and the zone of inhibition was measure in millimeters around the disc saturated
with the same molar concentration of the two antibiotics streptomycin and ampicillin. The
hypothesis is that if the colonies of S. marcescens were treated separately with streptomycin and
ampicillin with all other factors remaining the same and controlled, the S. marcescens would
display a stronger resistance toward the ampicillin than to streptomycin. The results from the
experiment supports the hypothesis that S. marcescens is more resistant to ampicillin than to
streptomycin. Introduction
Serratia marcescens is a species of Gram negative bacteria. S. marcescens is considered as a
motile organism and expected to be found in soil, dirt or sterile locations. Potential infections
would be caused by would sites, respiratory tract and urinary tract. Its red pigmentation makes it
recognizable in this experiment. In this study, it will be plated to grow

The Price Of Labor In Indi A Global Epidemic
What may be seen as a result of a surplus of labor by an economist, has ultimately led to an
epidemic. India s population, estimated to be 1.35 billion, suffers extensive poverty as more than
thirty seven percent of its population lives below the poverty line. (Economy Watch) This surplus
of labor has driven the price of labor in India to incredibly low amounts, hence the outsourcing
which has become rampant. Low labor prices compounded with exclusion due to the caste system
and high dependency on agriculture all have amplified the poverty which in turn, has given rise to
the largest population 2.3 million within the borders of a nation to be infected with HIV/AIDS.

In recent years, India has seen some improvement in certain regions in terms of prevalence. As a
whole, India has placed itself on the same trajectory as Africa. But this problem cannot be attributed
to just one cause. India s unique culture, environmental/economical conditions, and standard of
living have all had significant implication on this problem. (HIV/AIDS)
Poverty. This condition in the country gives rise to sex workers due to inability to find work in
an extremely competitive agricultural market and lack of sufficient funds to survive. Suppressed
by a need to raise sufficient funds for themselves, women in India engage in sexual activities
which have given rise to several red light districts. Giving structure to such a common method of
sexual interaction, the prostitution business has fostered the growth of the infection HIV within
the country. If it is not apparent enough, in the cities of Mumbai and Pune, incidence of the
infection has risen to fifty percent as a result of this business. Alongside with giving call to
desperate measures, the issue of poverty has staggered the technological advance in the medical
field in India. Unable to fully use all of its resources, Technology lags in a majority of the nation
due to insufficient funds for both R D and for the investment in capital of already discovered

The Importance Of Propaganda On Modern Society
Propaganda has influenced modern society in such a way that most individuals are oblivious to
its role in the modern way of life. Infact, without propaganda society would function in a
drastically different way because of the newfound lack of outside influence. Propaganda, or the
use of various mediums to persuade or influence rational thought, has been utilized to shape
human civilization since it first began. From, as document A states, the Ancient Greeks use of
theater performances and religious festivals to mold the opinions of men, to the Spanish
Armada use of false information to gain the support of the spanish citizens, and finally to Yarn
Adams and Tom Paine who used literature to rally colonists against the British Empire,
propaganda has performed vital roles in the evolution of modern civilization. Therefore, it can
be said that propaganda has been used as a language of power to spread ideas and beliefs,
promote and build strength, and to control the action of men. Propaganda is a very valuable tool
in the process of spreading ideas and beliefs throughout a population because of its powerful and
lasting effects on those who are subjected to it. Therefore, if one utilizes such a tool properly, one
can effectively convert the beliefs of entire populations. Events proving such is true can be seen in

Discuss the main theme advanced in this class. Use examples.
One of the main themes advanced in the class is the emergence of cities as global leaders, which
we have also referred to as the rise of cities. Cities are becoming globally competitive and playing
a larger role in international relations. Cities are also becoming leaders and finding solutions to
problems such as poverty and climate change that nations have either been reluctant to tackle or
have failed to make progress on. Atwell provides a few examples of cities participating directly
with other nations or global cities in international relations. One of these examples is the City of
Chicago working with the City of Mexico to establish a partnership in fields such as trade, ... Show

The United States, through the use of the UN, used it s money and influence to achieve its
personal agenda for how it saw that the world should attain peace and development. In short,
President Truman was combating the influence of the USSR by attempting to help countries
develop and attain economic prosperity in order to stop and deter the spread of communism.
The Four Point Program was introduced by President Truman to spread democracy and peace.
The plan advocated for using Western advances in technology and sciences to help lift
developing nations. The UN and developed nations also believed that the best way to help the
global South develop was through the use of development theory, as long as it happened on
terms that were compatible with Western values and interests. Development theory was seen as a
series of ideas and practices such as market liberalism, democracy, the use of social sciences and
technology to help underdeveloped countries. These ideas would later go on to be enhanced and
advocated by American Walt Rostow in his book The Stages of Economic Growth: A Non
Communist Manifesto. He believed that expert led development could promote democracy and if
done right, could be more appealing than marxist ideas to young people in developing nations.
Development was seen as a global project intended to focus on individual nation economies. To

Main Goals of The Progressive Movement Essay
In the late nineteenth century to early twentieth century the Progressive Era was moving to reshape
America. Progressivism was a political movement that encouraged the exposure of corruption in
America in order to reshape it for the better. This time period became known for the social and
political changes that took place as a result of the progressives. Progressivism ruled the country,
changing the way Americans lived and the way politics affected them. One of the main goals of the
progressive movement was to use democracy to regulate the government by exposing the corruption
of government officials. Another area in which the progressives moved for change was business. In

He was most known for his book The Jungle, which became a worldwide bestseller and
dramatically changed food regulation during the Progressive Era. Many people saw the results of
this book as good, but they did not see the corruption it caused. Upton Sinclair s The Jungle changed
food regulation in America forever, but the effects that came about because of The Jungle were
more detrimental than beneficial.
Upton Beall Sinclair grew up in a poor family, always moving around from city to city with his
father s job as a salesman. His mother, Priscilla Sinclair, had rich relatives on her side of the
family whom Upton would visit with some regularity. As he grew up this allowed him to see
how the rich and the poor lived, giving him an insight that shaped his career as a writer and
journalist. He did not have a good relationship with either his mother or father, causing him to
become independent at a young age. When he was just fourteen his family moved to New York
city and he started writing to pay for his tuition at the City College of New York. He went on to
graduate from Columbia University, paying his way with stories he wrote. His early career
consisted of small novels and journal articles that never became well known. Upton Sinclair often
wrote for the socialist journal Appeal to Reason, showing his socialist ideals. Growing up in
poverty and visiting wealth caused him to have these socialist views. The crowning point of his
career came

Less sleep and a lot of wicked thoughts and dreams. This shows lady Macbeth as being wicked,
untrustable and dreadful because she was the one to fill Macbeth s head with wrong actions and
told him that it will be okay and that no one will find out. After lady Macbeth told Macbeth to
kill the king and he did so, later in the play lady Macbeth started to feel the guilt and was seen
walking in her sleep multiple times in which has been seen by the gentlewoman who said Since

Overcoming Issues In Atonement By Ian Mcewan
Life is not always as easy as one might believe. For, it is full of challenges that one must
constantly overcome. Not one person is completely free from facing challenges. It is part of life
and there is nothing that anyone can do about it. The best thing that one can do is try to
overcome issues and make the most out of what one is given. Yet, not everyone is lucky enough
to be able to overcome these issues. There are many who are unable to overcome an issue as a
child and have to live a life full of regret. This is exactly what occurred to the characters in the
novel Atonement by Ian McEwan. Due to Briony s immaturity, she caused the arrest of her Sister,
Cecilia s boyfriend. Within her life she realized her mistake, but the damage was already... Show

Through the use of characterization and the idea of freedom, Ian McEwan shows no matter how
awful life can be, things will find a way to work its way out. The mistake made by Briony Tallis,
only caused harm to the rest of her family, including the Turner family, who lived on the Tallis
property. It all starts when Briony witnesses an interaction between her sister, Cecilia and
Robbie Turner. She witnessed, [Cecilia] was out of her blouse, now she had let her skirt drop to
the ground and was stepping out of it, while he looked on impatiently, hands on hips (McEwan

vase had fallen within the fountain. She thought Robbie had a kind of spell on Cecilia, making
her do things she had not wanted to do. Briony judged the book by its cover, and jumped to the
conclusion that only lead to more trouble further down the road. Things would have been a
whole of a lot better, if Robbie had not given Briony a letter to deliver. Robbie realized when it
was too late that, The typed page, left by him near the typewriter, was the one he had taken and
folded into the envelope (McEwan 890). By

What Is The Theme Of The Decameron
Set in Florence during the Black Death (late 1340 s), Giovanni Boccaccio s Decameron started
his reputation as a writer. The story revolves around ten young Florentines who escape the
plague by leaving the city for the clean country air. However, time seems to go by slowly when
nothing is happening, so to pass the time they agree to each tell one story every day. And each
day one person is chosen to decide the topic for the day s set of tales. This brings in multiple
genres of stories, ranging from romantic tales of true love to adventures and trickery. Incidentally, at
the time Boccaccio begins to write the Decameron the Black Deathstarts coming to an end in
Europe. And in fact, much like the characters of his story, many left the dirtiest of cities, in the
beginning, for clean country air in an attempt to escape the plague. These escapees left behind
them the crowded, filthy streets where disease was easily contracted for clean, spacious
countryside. However the plague infected the animals as well, meaning as they moved, it did too.
But for those who chose to stay in the cities, avoiding the disease meant avoiding people. Many
shops closed down and some priests even refused to give people their last rites.... Show more

However, the major difference in his portrayal of each gender, is that the stories seem to favor
females. During the Middle Ages, women would work at home and tend to the children. In society,
they had a lower status than men and usually had little influence over their own lives. But, in the
Decameron, the women often come out victorious through their own cunning ways or extreme
patience and flexibility due to the hardships they must deal with every day. Boccaccio s
representation of women reveals the somewhat hidden aspects of women (from his time) and how
they can often outdo

The Determination Of Iron And Vitamin Tablets Essay
In Experiment 5, Spectrophotometric Determination of Iron in Vitamin Tablets we will discover the
importance of spectrophotometry which is a way to measure how much light is absorbed by a
chemical substance that will measure the potency of light as beams in order to detect the light in a
sample solution. Spectrophotometric is a quick, reliable method that measures lightin a quantitated
way, ensuring that electromagnetic radiation may be absorbed by matter. In order to understand
how radiation is absorbed you ll need to know that it depends heavily on the concentrationof the
wavelength and the absorbing chemical within a sample. In this experiment, we will be exploring
the iron tablet that will be dissolved in acidso that it can cause reduction transformation into Fe2+
using hydroquinone, and turned up using o phenathroline to create a colored complex. We will
then use those reagents to begin our procedure to sum up with our finish results. The finish results
of each sample solution (ranging in different mL ranges) will be measured by light absorbency
using 508nm wavelength. Understanding Beer s Law, we know that A=Й›bc with A equaling the
absorbency, Й› is the molar absorptivity (M 1cm 1), b being the pathlength measured using cm, and
c is the molar concentration of a solution. Beer s law specifically explores the quantitative analysis
of a concentration of the radiation absorbed vs. the concentration of the absorbing chemical. The
light absorbency of the beam

Optical Resonance Imaging ( Mri )
Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) is a technique that uses a magnetic field and radio waves to
create detailed images of the organs and tissues within your body. MRIs are largely used in the
medical field today because of their ability to create detailed images of the human body which can
be used for diagnostic purposes. In 1971 a paper in the journal Science Raymond Damadian, an
American physician and professor at the Downstate Medical Center State University of New York
reported that tumors and normal tissue can be distinguished by nuclear magnetic resonance(NMR).
He suggested that these differences could be used to diagnose cancer, though later research would
find that these differences, while real, aren t consistent enough for diagnostic purposes. Damadian
s initial methods were flawed for practical use, relying on a point by point scan of the entire body
and using relaxation rates of the tissue in your body, which turned out not to be an effective
indicator of cancerous tissue.
During the 1970s a team led by John Mallard built the first functional full body MRI scanner at
the University of Aberdeen in Scotland. In August of 1980 they used this machine to obtain the
first clinical image of a patient s internal tissue using Magnetic Resonance Imaging, which
identified a primary tumor in the patient s chest, an abnormal liver, and a secondary cancer in his
bones. This machine was later used at St Bartholomew s Hospital in London from 1983 to 1993.

The Painting Reflection
The 2011 animated movie, The Painting, directed by Jean François Laguionie, offered interesting
thoughts on the debates about the existence of god, the perception of reality, and freewill. The
complexity of the paintings and painter is in parallel with our understanding of the world and god
or creator. It prompts a question though. Are we blind to our own reality never realizing that we are
just one paintingwithin another and clueless about what is beyond our own frame? While a final
answer to these debates was not necessarily given because no one can truly discover the answer, the
story did propose an attitude or mindset that we should adopt leading to a better understanding of
the issues at hand.
Many members of each caste, the Alldunns, Halfies, and Sketchies, simply accepted the way things
were and assumed the painter made everything a certain way for a reason. Some thought the painter
would return to finish his work; others cursed the painter for being so cruel as to leave work
unfinished and allow such inequality; yet, even others thought the painter would not return and did
not care about them. The Alldunns even used this idea to discriminate against those they deemed
incomplete and unworthy of joining them in the castle. In the painting of the war, the two armies
fought day after day because that was all they knew. The struggles and differences between the
castes and in the war painting illustrated inequality and evil that were nonsensical and eventually

Since gaining independence from the British in 1776, the United States foreign policy over the
years has gone from expansionist to isolationism to defending democracy. With the responsibility of
defending democratic rights for those who cannot defend themselves, the United States in my
opinion has taken on the role of policeman of the world. This role became more evident with the
use of U.S. military force in international incidents like U.S. intervention in the 2011 Libyan Civil
War to oust Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi, and U.S. involvement in the 2011 Yemeni Civil War

These businessmen saw the potential of further economic expansion by having access to overseas
markets and materials.
Three international incidents from the past five years that can be traced back to a foreign policy
created after the Civil War are Vietnam, Somalia, and Iraq. The Vietnam War began in 1955 and
was fought between communist North Vietnam and South Vietnam. The regime of North Vietnam
and its allies known as the Viet Cong were supported by the Russian government while South
Vietnam s primary ally was the United States.
In 1991 the President of Somalia Mohamed Siad Barre was overthrown and this led to the
beginning of a civil war. During this time various militias vied for control of the country. This
marked a period of intense violence and fighting which eventually required both United Nations
Peacekeeping forces and U.S. military involvement.
The Iraqi war of 2003 started after Iraq claimed to possess weapons of mass destruction. Under the
dictatorship of Saddam Hussein, some segments of the Iraqi population prospered while others
were threatened with violence, tortured, and killed. Under Saddam Hussein s regime, Iraq
developed chemical weapons that were used against its enemies and even its own people.

The Physics Of Physical Therapy
The Physics in Physical Therapy Physical therapy has grown increasing more useful as the years
progress and more is learned about the human body and its movements, interactions, and
mechanisms. Someone may go to physical therapy for injury, recovery, in order to maintain
function, or even due to a stroke and is trying to work on walking again. Patients of a physical
therapist can include, but is not limited to, elderly, children, accident victims, athletes, those with
conditions such as arthritis or fractures, etc. The possibilities are endless for potential physical
therapy patients (Mayo Clinic School of Health Sciences). Physical therapy is the scientific
physical procedures used in the treatment of patients with a disability, disease, or injury to achieve
and maintain function and to prevent malfunction or deformity. One of the most important tasks
that physical therapists perform is the various forms of therapeutic exercise that are used to
increase strength and endurance to improve coordination and functional movement for activities
of daily living and to increase and maintain range of motion (APTA History). Some of the first
known practices of physical therapy are from the early Greek and Romans. They had writings that
said both the sun and water were beneficial. The Chinese, Persians, Egyptians, and Greeks said
exercise and massage were beneficial. The first school of therapy was established at Walter Reed
Army Hospital, Washington, D.C. after World War I

Literary Devices In Shakespeare s Romeo And Juliet
Quoting Romeo and Juliet
In Romeo and Juliet, William Shakespeare portrays the inevitability of fate and futility of resisting
one s identity. This is evident, first of all, when Romeo, after slaying Tybalt, says O, I am fortune s
fool. This is an example of alliteration, which is a sound technique that relies not on repeated
letters, but repeated sounds and is produced when a number of words with the same first consonant
sound occur close together. Shakespeare uses this technique of alliteration to create rhythm and
mood to the dialogue, as well as trying to engage the audience. Shakespeare also portrays this
theme, when Romeo says Some consequence yet hanging in the stars/ shall bitterly begin his
fearful fate/ with his nights revels. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Tell me, that I may sack/The hateful mansion. This is an example of a metaphor, which is
closely related to a simile, the differences being that similes compare two things, whilst
metaphors are phrases that are literally applied to another, using figure of speech. Shakespeare
uses this technique of metaphors to express and convey how strong the rage that took over
Romeo s self control was. Shakespeare also portrays this theme when Prince Escalus says See,
what a scourge is laid upon your hate/That heavens finds means to kill your joys with love. This is
an example of two techniques, using metaphors and imagery. Imagery is when figurative language
is used to associate words to physical objects or features. Shakespeare uses the techniques of
metaphors and imagery to associate the emotions of the Capulet s and Montague s losses, with the
image of a scourge, or a whip. The imagery of the whip represents the fact that what they have done
through the hatred that overtook their self control and reason, has been punished. These examples
of metaphors and imagery confirm that William Shakespeare successfully represents the tyranny of
the passions in overthrowing self control and

  • 3. Essay On Teaching Style Introduction Teacher effectiveness has been an ongoing topic of interest among educational researchers for many years, with considerable focus given to the specific traits and behaviors that are believed to constitute effective teaching. There is no absolutely right or wrong method or technique to teach, and teachers need to change their approach in different circumstances. Different teachers may be required to use different teaching strategies and styles in the same situations due to the differences in their teaching styles, personality types, and beliefs in teachers abilities in improving learners achievement. Teaching style plays a vital role in the development of teachers professional expertise (Akbari, Mirhassani, Bahri, 2005). It is always persistent with teachers personality type and varies among individuals (Cooper,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Many studies stress the effect of teaching style on learners achievements (Conti, 1985; Miglietti Strange, 1998). Teaching style refers to a predilection toward teaching behavior and the congruence between educators teaching behavior and teaching beliefs (Heimlich Norland, 1994, p.34). In fact, teaching styles are reflections of a combination of teachers theoretical assumptions and actual teaching practice. Jarvis (2004) provides a more vivid account of teaching style and believes that a style is the totality of one s philosophy, beliefs, values, and behaviors, and it incorporates the full implementation of this philosophy; it consists of substantiation and support of beliefs about values and attitudes toward elements of the student learning and teacher learning exchange (p. 40). According to the results of the mentioned studies about teaching styles, it is obvious that by being aware of these styles, teachers can improve their effective teaching and their students learning by using the appropriate style in specific ... • 5. Labour Movement History The labor movement in the United States developed and expanded out of the desire to guard and defend the general concern of employees. For individuals in the manufacturing and engineering segments, organized labor unions disputed for improved, higher paying wages, sufficient hours and harmless working surroundings or environments (Schaller 662). The labor movement also raised concerns for efforts to discontinue child labor, offer health benefits and supply assistance to workers who had been injured or retired. Between 1860 and 1910 the population of the United Statesmore than tripled, and so did the industrial work force (Schaller 645). The Knights of Labor unification, founded in 1869, took the association to a new altitude, portraying a national connection (Schaller 665). The philosophy of the Knights was to consist of anyone engaged in manufacturing, which helped its numbers enlarge (Schaller 665). The union was greatly controlled under the command of Terence Powderly and recruited politics to help battle its variety of foundations (Schaller 665). The Knights of Labor acknowledged that an injury to one is the concern of all, insisted on having only eight hour shifts, did not agree that child labor was acceptable, and accentuated worker instruction and supportive foundations (Schaller 665). However, events unexpectedly took a turn for the worse in 1886 when the Haymarket rebellion saw the idea of the Knights, overshadowed by the fatality of police officers and civilians and fifty innocent people wounded in a bomb blast (Schaller 665). Community judgment turned not to be in favor of the revolutionary movement in general and the union collapsed (Schaller ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 7. Value Maximization Is Not The Optimal Approach Enhanced Value Maximization. According to HBS Professor Michael C. Jensen (2000), pursuing only one objective, i.e. profit maximization is not the optimal approach. A manager must develop a structure that will help employees to resist the temptation to maximize the short term financial performance of the organization as that s a sure way to destroy value. Though, a manager needs to take into account the impact of their decisions on all the stakeholders as the first step towards value maximization, the stakeholder theory falls short in describing how managers should make the necessary tradeoffs among competing interests of its stakeholders. Jensen writes in his paper that a manager needs to make necessary tradeoffs among the interest of... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Managers are looking to globalize operations, developing new markets for their products for better strategic business outcomes. Consumers have better access to a greater variety of goods and services and competition to reach to the new markets with the right product is getting stronger among businesses. Globalization also gives businesses better access to a global workforce, enables them to tap into international raw materials and financial resources. As the world economy is fast becoming a single interdependent system, businesses have competitors, customers, employees from anywhere in the world. As indicated in the article Leading in a Globalizing World , the author emphasized that being successful in the global business environment takes special skills. As global managers, the biggest challenge is to improve upon their ability to deal with ambiguity, complexity, and diversity. Understanding the bigger picture and acquiring the global vision is the key, i.e. staying informed what the competitors are doing, what customers prefer at different markets. For example, a global manager needs to understand that a customer in China might probably have different preferences than a customer living in Europe. As complex as business is today, it is important to recognize that a manager would never have all the information / details before making a decision. Taking a moderate amount of risks ... • 8. Fire And Post Fire Management Introduction In 2005, Pomeroy, Washington experienced a storm with multiple lightning strikes causing ignitions that started a large scale fire. This was designated as the School Fire Complex the location of our study (Figure 1). The fire burned for fourteen days, consuming 21,000 hectares of land, including 87 buildings and 56% of the Umatilla National Forest Land. Almost half the federally owned land had been previously thinned for fire management (MODIS 2005). During the 2015 Fire Ecology and Management class (FOR 326) field trip to the School Fire Complex, the class surveyed a series of sites in order to create a research project to obtain a better understanding of fire and post fire management. The goal of this research is to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Both hypothesizes can be combined to one; that if an area is high severity, high pre fire density, and logged (HHL) it will have a higher density than the high severity, low pre fire density, and logged (HLL). Methods The lands that burned during this fire were mainly comprised of a mixed conifer forest. The main tree species found before and after the fire are Douglas fir, grand fir, Pinus ponderosa (ponderosa pine; PIPO), and Pinus contorta (lodgepole pine; PICO). Other species found include other varieties of spruce, pine, and larch. In some areas of the site a rich understory has formed or still exists; these were dominated by Salix scouleriana (Scouler s willow; SASC) with a limited variety of forbs present beneath the shrubs. Post fire management tactics included salvage logging and grass seeding. This seeding of native grasses was spread across burned areas in combination with mulch in the form of agriculture straw as well as shredded wood strips (Robichaud, 2009). In order to collect data, protocol was followed as described in by P. Morgan and P. Higueraa s (YEAR)School Fire Field Trip Handout and Assignment packet. In September 2015 the FOR 326 class from University of Idaho followed this protocol to find and collect data from 32 sites on two different days. • 9. Essay on Dr. Mengele The life story of Josef Mengele is one that is filled many twists and turns that play out like a suspense story with an ending that does not seem to fit what one would expect. The authors of the book Mengele: The Complete Story, Gerald L. Posner and John Ware, wrote this book largely with information taken from diaries and letters of Mengeleamp;#8217;s, and interviews with those who knew him. It is a look into the life and times of a man whose nickname was amp;#8220;The Angel of Death. ; Josefamp;#8217;s life and post mortem fate could be divided into three different chapters. His pre war life and life during World War II was one of privilege and freedom to satisfy his perverse desire to perform bizarre and mostly useless medical... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... However, this man who exhibited a sense of strength and fierceness to his victims was neither physically or emotionally strong. He was very insecure about his physical appearance, and constantly thought people were out to get him. He felt he had to belittle others accomplishments in order to make himself feel more confident. Mengele especially hated gypsies, and viewed them as more of a subspecies than other groups he killed. The following passage, which comes from Mengele amp;#8217;s arrest warrant, which detailed his heinous crimes, illustrates his disregard for their lives: amp;#8220;..On May 25th, 1943, Mengele sent 1035 gypsies suspected of typhus to the gas chamber, and on May 25th and 26th he spared those Gypsies who were German while he sent approximately 600 others to be gassed. ;(p. 25 par.1) What is ironic about this hatred is that Mengele himself was far from being considered physically superior to anyone. • 10. A Response to Embroidery by Ray Bradbury Essays A Response to Embroidery by Ray Bradbury The short story Embroidery , written by Ray Bradbury is one, which could be classed as a science fiction story with some political aspects to it. Embroidery ends in apocalyptic terms, where an atom bomb is dropped. Written in the 1960 s meant that the cold war was still going on and being hit by an atomic bomb was highly possible. I think that because of this a general reader reading this story in the time it was written would have found this story frightening and at that time the story may haven even been slightly controversial. From a feminists point of view this text would be looked upon with quite a lot of interest. Firstly, the short story was ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... I ll just have to rip the whole pattern, practically, to fix it right. The man is ripped out entirely from the scene, rather then just having his face corrected. These women seem to be living fine as they are however their situation is hardly the scene pictured in the embroidery. A feminist reader may dislike this story because firstly, the women in the story could be though of as stereotypical. The embroidery itself serves as an activity commonly associated with women and I think that a feminist reader would rather dismiss these stereotypes. • 11. What Is The Mood Of The Passionate Shepherd To His Love The Elizabethan Era author and playwright, Christopher Marlowe, was a romantic writer who came before his time. Being born hundreds of years before the romantic period around 300 to be exact, his poem The Passionate Shepherd to His Love, could have and would have fallen perfectly within the style of the romantic time period. In the poem, the shepherd beckons to his love, who has not yet accepted his advances. He entices her with promises of lush fields, beds of roses and the opportunity to dance and sing when she pleases. He uses precise and beautiful words to lure and persuade the woman of his dreams to live with him and enjoy his bounties. Throughout the poem he boasts of dressing her in gowns of the finest wool, slippers and belts with... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... For example, imagery is used immensely. Marlowe writes of A belt of straw and ivy buds, / With coral clasps and amber studs... (Greenblatt). This type of precise, picturesque imagery further proves the point this could be a romantic poem, adding to the tone of the full text. To describe something as beautifully as Marlowe did shows the love the shepherd feels toward the woman in the poem. Also, alliteration is accomplished as Marlowe articulates ideas on the page. There are many examples offered in the text, such as: ...mind may move..., ...pleasures prove..., and ...feed their flocks... (Greenblatt). This device allows the text to be more like a song, letting the reader s words flow off the tongue in a tantalizing manner. To continue, the poem also contains consonance. In the line stating That valleys, groves, hills, and fields... the end of the words in this line almost all end with the s sound (Greenblatt). Just like the use of alliteration, the device of consonance assists the poem in flowing off the tongue and creating more of a song than a poem. Additionally, Marlowe uses symbolism; however, it is not used quite as literally as some other pieces of text. It is common for a rose to symbolise love or many other feelings of the human heart, so it makes sense for the author to use it in line nine, where it is written, And I will make thee beds of roses... (Greenblatt). Also, in the fourth stanza, Marlowe could be making a nudge at innocence when he writes about pretty lambs, and the purest gold. To further the poem being a lyrical text, there are examples of enjambment that creates even more of a flow to each line. Come live with me and be my love, / And we will all the pleasures prove / That valleys, groves, hills, and fields, / Woods, or steepy mountain yields. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 12. Rfid ( Radio Frequency Identification ) Essay RFID (radio frequency identification) uses radio waves to transmit information between RFID tags (chips) and RFID readers (What is RFID?, n.d.). There are two basic types of RFID tags. Active tags are larger and more expensive because they require an independent power supply to function, passive tags are cheaper, smaller and do not need a separate power supply (The Different Types of RFIDSystems, n.d.). Initially, we will be implementing the use of passive RFID tags, which will help control the costs of this project. Once the RFID project is functioning according to our expectations, we will expand our RFID system to include the use of active RFID tags. The implementation of RFID technology will require a significant financial investment for a system wide implementation. Depending upon the extent of our investment in RFID technology, we could enhance our control of access to certain areas, improve inventory management, and monitor our patients movements throughout our RFID equipped facilities (Niles, 2015, p. 384) Phase one of the RFID implementation project will increase the security of our facilities and parking structures. All hospital staff will be issued new employee identification badges that have integrated RFID tags inside of them. Instead of replacing current badges, we have the option to issue RFID sticker tags to be placed on the back of their current ID badge. The use of RFID Stickers will be substantially cheaper than replacing all existing badges. The RFID ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

There made its appearance that deadly pestilence, which, whether disseminated by the influences of the celestial bodies, or sent upon us mortals by God in His just wrath by way of retribution for our iniquities, had its origin some years before in the East, whence, after destroying an innumerable multitude of living beings, it had propagated itself without respite from place to place, and so, calamitously, had spread abroad into the West . These are the lines from Giovanni Boccaccio s magnum opus The Decameron , which consists of various tales narrated by seven young women and three young men seeking refuge in a secluded villa outside Florence to escape from one of the greatest catastrophies in human history. DEVELOPMENT AND COMPOSITION OF MIDDLE EAR STRUCTURES OF BALAENOPTEROIDS (CETACEA, MYSTICETI): IMPLICATIONS ON FOSSIL CETACEAN PALEOECOLOGY AND BIOLOGY KERR, Tyler J., University of Wyoming, Laramie, WY, United States, 82071 BACKGROUND Whales (Cetacea) are unique among mammals in that they possess exceptionally dense, pachyosteosclerotic tympanic bullae1. Along the margin of the bulla is a highly mineralized, extremely dense wall of bone called the involucrum that serves as a special adaptation to life in the sea and as a means to facilitate sound reception and directionality underwater2,3,4. Moreover, this cetacean synapomorphy plays an important role in distinguishing its members from the ancestral terrestrial artiodactyls from which whales diverged5. When cut into cross sections, the involucral region of the tympanic bullae in many mysticete (baleen whale) lineages reveals three easily distinguishable zones of concentric laminar growth. Here we hypothesize that these three distinct zones identified along the length of the tympanic bullae are capable of recording life history events during early development, when the cetacean tympanoperiotic region is known to be rapidly ossifying6. We propose that the innermost zone (1) represents rapid in utero growth, the intermediary zone (2) represents rapid birth and postnatal development, and the outermost zone (3), markedly thinner, represents slower, more lamellar development from weaning on through adulthood. The Story of Joseph, in the book of Genesis, struck me as a primeval example of bullying dating back to 5th century BCE. Joseph was the 11th son of Jacob and was born to Jacob s favorite wife, Rachel. At the age of 17, Joseph was a shepherd alongside 11 of his brothers. His father, Jacob, displayed much more love to Joseph than any of his other sons, so much so that he gave Joseph a one of a kind coat of many colors (Genesis 37:23). The other brothers were jealous of Joseph and distained him. Joseph only further provoked this hatred when he told his brothers about two of his dreams he had of the family. The brother s tolerance only lasted so long. When the brothers saw him alone in a field, they plotted to kill him. When Joseph approached, they tore off his special coat and threw him into a pit. His brother, Judah, came up with the idea to sell Joseph into slavery. The brothers then dipped his coat into goat blood brought it back to Jacob. Jacob recognized the coat and concluded that a beast had killed his son, while in reality; he was in a caravan heading towards Egypt. There is no denying the raised awareness about bullying today than in past years. Although bullying has always existed, only recently has it been systematically measured. Initially, Louise is surprised, distressed, and drowned in sorrow. After mourning the loss, the womanrealizes that she is finally free and independent, and that the only person she has to live for is herself. Either way, it can be interpreted that the couple never saw each other before Louise died. Therefore, Louise Mallard may have simply passed away from a heart that was exhausted from her strong initial grief of losing her husband and her new adventurous excitement from gaining freedom (Cunningham 3). The unique ending of The Story of an Hour also contains some irony. During the 1800s, which is the time period that Chopin wrote this short story, men held more respect than women in society, and women were expected to be dependent upon a husband. A critic, Emily Toth, states that Chopin may have included Louise s death at the end of the story to please authors and editors because presenting that a woman may be able to happily live without a husband in the 1890s would be a fanatic idea (Cunningham 4). The multitude of conservative readers in the 1890s could interpret that Louise passed away because she was too independent, but the actual meaning of the death may have very well been because of Louise s joy from finally being dismissed from her husband s control. By using irony, Chopin was able to both please the critics of her time period, and prove a hidden point that women can find joy without a man. • 19. Pros And Cons Of Fordism Fordism a good idea or a bad one? The purpose of this paper is to state that Fordism was not a stable production system, even though it achieved great success when it was first applied by Henry Ford. The Fordism production method will be critically assessed on the segregation it built between workforce and management and how it established a dominant American industry. The study will also define the concept of Fordism and how it influenced the motor vehicle industry, in which this production model was first implemented. By the beginning of the 20th century technology had become advanced enough to introduce the motor vehicle. Despite this, for many years the automobile remained an expensive luxury item created by craftsmen. It was something only the wealthy could afford. That was until Henry Ford, a son of the Scientific Movement of Management, developed a new line of thought. He wanted to make cars available to the masses by changing the production process in a way that would reduce costs, so more people could afford the product. Ford introduced a new approach to production, which included standardization, specialization and the usage of the assembly line and the conveyor belt system (Smith, 2011). His business model was so successful that it sparked a revolution in the entire industry. Even today, a century later, the world is still greatly influenced by Fordism. However that was not enough recognition; Mussolini wanted to demonstrate to the world that he could be a successful ruler as well. Mussolini came to power and remained in power primarily due to the actions of the Italian Blackshirts. As the Blackshirts maintained law and order, terrorized political opponents, defended Italy, and marched on Rome, Mussolini successfully ruled as dictator. Controlled and led by Mussolini, the Italian Blackshirts also known as the Squadre d Azione, were made up of war veterans and young people led by ringleaders. The Blackshirt uniform consisted of a green jacket and trouser with a black shirt and tie. The green colors were similar to that of the army uniforms, but the black shirt and tie differentiated the Blackshirts from the other combat forces. The Blackshirts were first created on March 23, 1919 and played a vital role in the rule of Mussolini. Benito Mussolini s rise to power primarily relied on the Blackshirts march on Rome. On October 24, 1922, Mussolini hosted a Fascist convention in Naples as the reason for the March on Rome. There he declared, Either the government will be given to us, or we will seize it by marching on Rome. It frames the discovery that Bechdel when she was a young girl realised she was a lesbian, whilst at the same time finding out that her father is also homosexual and had been sexually active with males throughout his marriage to her mother, destroying their relationship. The world populationis currently 7.3 billion people and there is growing doubt that the planet is able to sustain human needs and resource consumption (Population Concern). The expansion of human population is impacting countries, societies, and cultures around the world differently. These differences can occur due to, environmental, political, and societal factors that can determine the severity of the issue and how the country decides to respond. • 28. Compare And Contrast Tocqueville And Crevecoeur People in Great Britain wanted to escape the aristocracy and establish freedom for themselves and their families. The writings of Alexis de Tocqueville, in Democracy in America, and J. Hector St. John Crevecoeur s, Letter from an American Farmer, helped catapult the idea of America being this new land of the brave and free. According to Tocqueville, American became a place where the Puritans found freedom for themselves. The Puritans really pushed for democracy and equality in this new land as a vast dichotomy of what they escaped in Britain. America being a place of democracy that was not dependent upon a royal family and aristocracy for ruling was a source of pride for the people and made America unique. Additionally, the idea of its people having power, rights, and a constitution to protect that supported the idea of equality and liberty. Crevecoeur stated, He persecutes nobody, and nobody persecutes him, he visits his neighbors, and his neighbors visit him. There is the idea that in America one can be themselves and everyone has the same basic human rights. Crevecoeur s writing differed from Tocqueville in the accuracy of America at the time and how accessible the American Dream actually was for all of the people living in America. The writings of Tocqueville and Crevecoeur highlight these great accomplishments by Americans and shifts the narrative of America being run by natives and British immigrants to American being run by Americans. Alexis de Tocqueville , in Democracy in America, initiated a trend in American studies by examining the shift from aristocracy to democracy. This new world run by the people and not by kings was fascinating at the time and very different, thus making America unique. Democracy was especially a source of pride in America because it actually worked unlike in other places, like France. Tocqueville states, The government democracy brings the notion of political rights to the level of the humblest citizens, just as the dissemination of wealth brings the notion of property within the reach of all the members of the community; and I confess that, to my mind, this is one of its greatest advantages. Antibiotic Resistance of S. marcescens Yesong Liu Comparison of Antibiotic Resistance of Serratia marcescens to Streptomycin and Ampicillin Abstract The purpose of this study and experiment was to analyze and compare the relative antibiotic resistance of the gram negative bacterial species Serratia marcescens to the antimicrobial species streptomycin and ampicillin. Preceding researches have shown that streptomycin has a stronger effect on the bacteria species than the ampicillin. In this experiment, the disc diffusion method has been introduced and the zone of inhibition was measure in millimeters around the disc saturated with the same molar concentration of the two antibiotics streptomycin and ampicillin. The hypothesis is that if the colonies of S. marcescens were treated separately with streptomycin and ampicillin with all other factors remaining the same and controlled, the S. marcescens would display a stronger resistance toward the ampicillin than to streptomycin. The results from the experiment supports the hypothesis that S. marcescens is more resistant to ampicillin than to streptomycin. Introduction Serratia marcescens is a species of Gram negative bacteria. S. marcescens is considered as a motile organism and expected to be found in soil, dirt or sterile locations. Infact, without propaganda society would function in a drastically different way because of the newfound lack of outside influence. Propaganda, or the use of various mediums to persuade or influence rational thought, has been utilized to shape human civilization since it first began. From, as document A states, the Ancient Greeks use of theater performances and religious festivals to mold the opinions of men, to the Spanish Armada use of false information to gain the support of the spanish citizens, and finally to Yarn Adams and Tom Paine who used literature to rally colonists against the British Empire, propaganda has performed vital roles in the evolution of modern civilization. Therefore, it can be said that propaganda has been used as a language of power to spread ideas and beliefs, promote and build strength, and to control the action of men. Propaganda is a very valuable tool in the process of spreading ideas and beliefs throughout a population because of its powerful and lasting effects on those who are subjected to it. Therefore, if one utilizes such a tool properly, one can effectively convert the beliefs of entire populations. The story revolves around ten young Florentines who escape the plague by leaving the city for the clean country air. However, time seems to go by slowly when nothing is happening, so to pass the time they agree to each tell one story every day. And each day one person is chosen to decide the topic for the day s set of tales. This brings in multiple genres of stories, ranging from romantic tales of true love to adventures and trickery. And in fact, much like the characters of his story, many left the dirtiest of cities, in the beginning, for clean country air in an attempt to escape the plague. These escapees left behind them the crowded, filthy streets where disease was easily contracted for clean, spacious countryside. • 48. The Determination Of Iron And Vitamin Tablets Essay In Experiment 5, Spectrophotometric Determination of Iron in Vitamin Tablets we will discover the importance of spectrophotometry which is a way to measure how much light is absorbed by a chemical substance that will measure the potency of light as beams in order to detect the light in a sample solution. Spectrophotometric is a quick, reliable method that measures lightin a quantitated way, ensuring that electromagnetic radiation may be absorbed by matter. In order to understand how radiation is absorbed you ll need to know that it depends heavily on the concentrationof the wavelength and the absorbing chemical within a sample. In this experiment, we will be exploring the iron tablet that will be dissolved in acidso that it can cause reduction transformation into Fe2+ using hydroquinone, and turned up using o phenathroline to create a colored complex. We will then use those reagents to begin our procedure to sum up with our finish results. The finish results of each sample solution (ranging in different mL ranges) will be measured by light absorbency using 508nm wavelength. Understanding Beer s Law, we know that A=Й›bc with A equaling the absorbency, Й› is the molar absorptivity (M 1cm 1), b being the pathlength measured using cm, and c is the molar concentration of a solution. Beer s law specifically explores the quantitative analysis of a concentration of the radiation absorbed vs. the concentration of the absorbing chemical. The light absorbency of the beam ... • 49. Optical Resonance Imaging ( Mri ) Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) is a technique that uses a magnetic field and radio waves to create detailed images of the organs and tissues within your body. MRIs are largely used in the medical field today because of their ability to create detailed images of the human body which can be used for diagnostic purposes. In 1971 a paper in the journal Science Raymond Damadian, an American physician and professor at the Downstate Medical Center State University of New York reported that tumors and normal tissue can be distinguished by nuclear magnetic resonance(NMR). He suggested that these differences could be used to diagnose cancer, though later research would find that these differences, while real, aren t consistent enough for diagnostic purposes. Damadian s initial methods were flawed for practical use, relying on a point by point scan of the entire body and using relaxation rates of the tissue in your body, which turned out not to be an effective indicator of cancerous tissue. During the 1970s a team led by John Mallard built the first functional full body MRI scanner at the University of Aberdeen in Scotland. In August of 1980 they used this machine to obtain the first clinical image of a patient s internal tissue using Magnetic Resonance Imaging, which identified a primary tumor in the patient s chest, an abnormal liver, and a secondary cancer in his bones. This machine was later used at St Bartholomew s Hospital in London from 1983 to 1993. Mallard and his team ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 51. The Painting Reflection The 2011 animated movie, The Painting, directed by Jean FranГ§ois Laguionie, offered interesting thoughts on the debates about the existence of god, the perception of reality, and freewill. The complexity of the paintings and painter is in parallel with our understanding of the world and god or creator. It prompts a question though. Are we blind to our own reality never realizing that we are just one paintingwithin another and clueless about what is beyond our own frame? While a final answer to these debates was not necessarily given because no one can truly discover the answer, the story did propose an attitude or mindset that we should adopt leading to a better understanding of the issues at hand. Many members of each caste, the Alldunns, Halfies, and Sketchies, simply accepted the way things were and assumed the painter made everything a certain way for a reason. Some thought the painter would return to finish his work; others cursed the painter for being so cruel as to leave work unfinished and allow such inequality; yet, even others thought the painter would not return and did not care about them. The Alldunns even used this idea to discriminate against those they deemed incomplete and unworthy of joining them in the castle. In the painting of the war, the two armies fought day after day because that was all they knew. The struggles and differences between the castes and in the war painting illustrated inequality and evil that were nonsensical and eventually ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Policeman of the World Essay Assignment 2.2: Policeman of the World Final Pape HIS105 Contemporary U.S. History 3/15/14 Since gaining independence from the British in 1776, the United States foreign policy over the years has gone from expansionist to isolationism to defending democracy. With the responsibility of defending democratic rights for those who cannot defend themselves, the United States in my opinion has taken on the role of policeman of the world. This role became more evident with the use of U.S. military force in international incidents like U.S. intervention in the 2011 Libyan Civil War to oust Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi, and U.S. involvement in the 2011 Yemeni Civil War protesting the leadership of Yemeni... Three international incidents from the past five years that can be traced back to a foreign policy created after the Civil War are Vietnam, Somalia, and Iraq. The Vietnam War began in 1955 and was fought between communist North Vietnam and South Vietnam. The regime of North Vietnam and its allies known as the Viet Cong were supported by the Russian government while South Vietnam s primary ally was the United States. In 1991 the President of Somalia Mohamed Siad Barre was overthrown and this led to the beginning of a civil war. During this time various militias vied for control of the country. This marked a period of intense violence and fighting which eventually required both United Nations Peacekeeping forces and U.S. military involvement. The Iraqi war of 2003 started after Iraq claimed to possess weapons of mass destruction. Under the dictatorship of Saddam Hussein, some segments of the Iraqi population prospered while others were threatened with violence, tortured, and killed. Under Saddam Hussein s regime, Iraq developed chemical weapons that were used against its enemies and even its own people. • 56. Literary Devices In Shakespeare s Romeo And Juliet Quoting Romeo and Juliet In Romeo and Juliet, William Shakespeare portrays the inevitability of fate and futility of resisting one s identity. This is evident, first of all, when Romeo, after slaying Tybalt, says O, I am fortune s fool. This is an example of alliteration, which is a sound technique that relies not on repeated letters, but repeated sounds and is produced when a number of words with the same first consonant sound occur close together. Shakespeare uses this technique of alliteration to create rhythm and mood to the dialogue, as well as trying to engage the audience. Shakespeare also portrays this theme, when Romeo says Some consequence yet hanging in the stars/ shall bitterly begin his fearful fate/ with his nights revels. ... This is an example of a metaphor, which is closely related to a simile, the differences being that similes compare two things, whilst metaphors are phrases that are literally applied to another, using figure of speech. Shakespeare uses this technique of metaphors to express and convey how strong the rage that took over Romeo s self control was. Shakespeare also portrays this theme when Prince Escalus says See, what a scourge is laid upon your hate/That heavens finds means to kill your joys with love. This is an example of two techniques, using metaphors and imagery. Imagery is when figurative language is used to associate words to physical objects or features. Shakespeare uses the techniques of metaphors and imagery to associate the emotions of the Capulet s and Montague s losses, with the image of a scourge, or a whip. The imagery of the whip represents the fact that what they have done through the hatred that overtook their self control and reason, has been punished. These examples of metaphors and imagery confirm that William Shakespeare successfully represents the tyranny of the passions in overthrowing self control and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
