Internal and External Factors
There are four management functions that are typically found in most of the business environments
around the world. The four functions of management are planning, organizing, leading, and
controlling. These are most commonly used in high level management to organizational management
too. There are five major factors that affect these and many other business functions which are
globalization, technology, innovation, diversity, and ethics. If you were to look into any organization,
these would be factors and management functions would be found. McDonalds has been a global
force in real estate and restaurant operation for many years now. The McDonald ... Show more content

They strive very hard to make globalization a very high importance. Technology with McDonald s
plays a very important role in the everyday corporation of McDonald s and all of its stores.
Technology is changing every day and has an impact on McDonald s corporation. Technology affects
planning and organizing in the same ways as the function of globalization s impact. The organizational
plans of development are sent down from the top level managers, to the store managers, all the way
down to the shareholders through technology. This also opens up a weakness to competitors by being
open for them to see their plans. This can be affected by internal forces. With technologies
improvements on day to day basis managers are able to communicate with their employees on a less
frequent basis. This means the leadership would be a less amount and managing effectively would
become worse. McDonald s counteracts this by using technology to make the training courses more
convenient and available to managers. Innovation is used by McDonald s and that is why it is the
world s leading force in the fast food industry. It is done a lot in the menu offerings, internet services
and the hiring and training courses. McDonalds keeps above the competition in America and all over
the world in the innovation fast food world because of the real estate innovation combined with it. The
internal and external factors have led McDonald s

Essay about Schizophrenia
Schizophrenia
It is a frightening disorder that strikes about one percent of the world population. It surfaces most
frequently during puberty and has the potential to forever destroy the lives of the people who are
unfortunate enough to be its victim. The disorder is schizophrenia and it manifests itself by disturbing
normal psychiatric behavior. The symptoms of schizophrenia are characterized by both positive and
negative symptoms. Positive symptoms include hallucinations, delusions, and other unusual or
disorganized behavior. Unresponsiveness, lack of activity, and loss of interest characterize negative
symptoms. Though it is possible for doctors to diagnose and treat patients with schizophrenia, the
causes of schizophrenia are ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Perhaps what is most convincing, though, are the recent links made between schizophrenia and
chemical imbalances in the brain. There are four main hypotheses that support the theory that
biological chemistry is responsible for causing schizophrenia. The first is named the Membrane
Hypothesis. Observations of persons suffering from schizophrenia suggest that a defect or impairment
in nerve cell membranes could affect how neurotransmitter receptors send messages across the nerve
synapses. Also, there is evidence of decreased enzymes and fatty acids among schizophrenics. (2)
A second hypothesis is the Single Carbon Hypothesis. This theory explains that the single carbon
folate serves as a metabolic pathway for several reactions in the brain. One of these reactions is the
synthesis of methionine. It has been found that methionine metabolism is defective in many sufferers
of schizophrenia. This suggests that folate is somehow related to the disorder, though exact
relationship remains unknown. (2)
The NDMA Receptor Hypothesis is another suspect in the search for the cause of schizophrenia.
According to research, it is possible that NDMA receptor dysfunction may induce schizophrenic
symptoms due to the fact that NDMA receptors operate with glutamate, an excitatory neurotransmitter.
Drugs that affect NDMA receptors, such as ketamine and phencyclidine, have been found to produce
hallucinations. Also, neuroleptic drugs like clozapoine have

Caligari And Metropolis
The banned of foreign films by the German government led to an increase of domestic film
productions, giving way for film artist to embrace the change and experiment with bold ideas and
artistic styles to make up for their lack of budgets. Such film includes The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari
(Robert Wiene, 1920) and Metropolis (Fritz Lang, 1927) often dealt with plots concerning with
insanity, betrayal, authority and other issues that were triggered by WWI. This paper will primarily
discuss on how these silent films disregard realism because of Germany s unconventional shift
towards Modernism and its socio political conditions. The second part of this paper will enlighten on
how German Expressionist film acts as an influence in the cinematic world.

Caligari and Metropolis identify as an Expressionist film mainly because of its unusual lighting, the
stylisation of the sets and dramatic acting (Elsaesser 20). The practitioner were also able to produce, a
set of gothic study materials, fairytale motifs, angular exteriors, claustrophobic interiors and above all
, in Elsaesser s words, excess of soul ascribed to things still typically German (20). These progressive
trends practiced by Expressionist artist help to create subjective perspectives in the German s
cinematic world, distorting it radically in order to stir emotional effects, and evoking progressive
moods and ideas for the spectators. Clearly, these socially progressive trends of activism to create, and
improve conventional films through experiments and the use of techniques that draws attention is a
typical act of Modernism (Berman 16). With their gradual modernistic ideas, German Expressionist
artists was able to deliver chaotic, twisted, and bizarre visual styles despite of the film, ironically, were

Penguin Monologue
One day, the penguin was flying around, looking for his dinner. As he was flying, he found an island,
where a old woman was weaving a basket. What s going to go in that basket? The penguin asked. It
will have some bread and clothes in it for my daughter. The woman replied. Where does your daughter
live? I can bring her the basket if you would like. Offered the penguin. Oh my, that would be
wonderful! Would you like to stay for awhile? I have some extra fish for my kitten, you can have it if
you would like. The penguin liked this idea. He agreed and waited for the woman to finish her basket.
A while later, the woman brought him a few fish. They were tiny, and not very tasty. It did not fill the
penguin s appetite. He wanted more; he didn t care what it was. A delicious smell came in his ... Show

picked up a piece of bread. Once he smelt it, he couldn t resist himself and took a bite. He was unable
to stop eating it once he started. How could something so simple like bread taste so good? The
penguin asked himself. Eventually, all of the woman s bread was gone. He soon realized this and felt
terrified. She would be infuriated at him! The penguin tried to fly away, but all of the bread had made
him too tired and he fell asleep, dreaming about the woman s bread.
In the morning, the woman walked in the kitchen to find all her bread missing! Oh no! She gasped,
waking the penguin. You ate my bread! The woman had a murderous look in her eye which terrified
the penguin. She grabbed him and threw him off the island, into the water, saying a string of words in
a different language. I have cursed you to a life in the water! You shall be more like a fish, with fins
and the inability to fly! And ever since, penguins have lived life in the water, not able to fly like the

Juvenile Justice And Juvenile Delinquency
Juvenile Justice has been a work in progress from the beginning of the program because of the
evolving mentality of the generations. The purpose of Juvenile Justice was to correct the behavior of
the juvenile delinquents and rehabilitation through a probationary period monitored by an individual
who paid for bail and periodically reported behavior changes to courts. (Mulligan 2009) We do justice
to the youth offenders by understanding the history of Juvenile Justice restorative programs, the
alternatives to incarceration, and how to help them amend their actions and behavior. The history of
Juvenile Justice went from incarceration with adults to reform back to incarceration in separate
facilities and similar rights as adult offenders. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Because of the efforts, juvenile court spread to 46 states by 1925. (Eskin, 1991) Constitutional rights
were given to juvenile offenders in 1967, when the Juvenile Justice was under scrutiny for unfair
treatment. A Supreme Court reviewed a case that sentenced a 15 year old Gerald Gault to detention
until the age of 21 for making an obscene phone call. The Supreme Court case determined that
juveniles are entitled to many of the same adult rights and have the right to know their charges, have
legal representation, and the right not to testify against their own selves. (Eskin, 1991) It is beneficial
for society to know and understand the Restorative programs and how juveniles can amend their
actions and correct their behavior. (Hagan and King 1992) Juvenile Justice is often thought of as
dealing with juveniles who commit theft or unruly. Society today has to face the reality that the
current generation of juveniles are committing crimes such as murder, drug offenses, and sexual
assaults. Restorative justice is known through objectives and in contrast to the former retributive and
rehabilitative beliefs of punishment. (Mulligan 2009) Community based juvenile justice programs
focus on developing the competency development of the youth offender to ensure the youth successful
completion of the programs in order to exit the juvenile justice system and become contributing law
abiding members of the community. The

Religion And The Influence Of Karnak Temple
Ancient Egypt was a golden age in the human history timeline. The incredible wealth, architecture,
and religion held a key part in developing modern day society and contributed to the construction of
many other eras s including the Roman Empire and affected the Greek civilisation tremendously
(MAAT, 2017). The extravagance of the era echoes throughout history and creates a base of
knowledge that many modern day practices follow. Set on the banks of the Nile in Thebes, Karnak
Temple is the epiphany of the power the Egyptians possessed. As one of the largest religious temples
in the world, Karnak Temple covers around 200 acres of temples, pillars, lakes and gardens.
(Discovering Egypt, 2017). This place of worship shows the grip that religion held on civilisation
throughout the vast Egyptian empire. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Although the complex was never fully finished, the additions constructed to the Temple that began
with Senuseret 1 show the major effect of religion on the empire. Karnak s significance comes from
the rich history engraved into the stone. From stories of battles and pharaohs to gods and wishes of
good luck that are inscribed into the sandstone. (Karnak Temple, 2017). This proves the significance
of Karnak temple by focusing on the power of religion in ancient Egypt. Furthermore, the effect the
gods and the religion had on the way pharaohs ruled and the effect it had on politics, the sway it had in
everyday life and the civilians, and the advancements it held in architectural importance all proves the
significance of the Karnak Temple. Therefore, despite the ruination of The Karnak Temple, the site

Unanimous Verdict vs. Majority Rules Verdicts
The use of a jury is the traditional method within the common law for deciding the facts in any dispute
between parties. The role of a jury is to determine question of fact. The jury is in a powerful method
because ultimately, it determines whether a person is guilty or innocent. In civil cases, the main
function of the jury is to find the facts having regard to the evidence, and assess damages. The number
of jurors used in a civil trial is less than that used in a criminal trial. Another important difference is
that the verdict does not have to be unanimous, meaning that a judge will accept a majority decision of
a civil jury.
Unanimity has long been considered as essential and fundamental part of jury trials. Unanimous
decisions refer ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Taking a Look at Virtual Currencies
Virtual currencies such as bitcoin are portrayed as an innovative design in the distribution of money
throughout the world through the use of peer to peer transactions due to it being fraudulent and
impossible to counterfeit. However, bitcoin holders are anonymous and could act in a similar way to
black markets, their bitwallet is unregulated and untaxed. Using bitcoin as a currency also delves into
the problem where users purchase illegal objects and substances anonymously.
Bitcoin is essentially an electronic cash currency and is perceived as a great success since its launch in
2009. Most e cash schemes require a centralized bank, which acts as a safeguard for potential scams or
for double spending detection. (Simon Barber et al. 2012 p 401), In contrast, the bitcoin protocol
allows individuals to freely send bitcoins without any third party interference. The fee for sending
bitcoins is very little in comparison to other online payment methods such as PayPal thus bitcoin is
considered to be cost efficient. (Grinberg, R. 2012 p 160). Bitcoin is considered ethical because it is
unique to the characteristics of credit cards. Banks have attempted to remove the issue of fraud and
find mechanisms to stop hackers and phishers from obtaining personal data. This is because traditional
transactions require the transmission confidential data, making data vulnerable to interception by
hackers (Simon Barber et al. 2012 p 402). In regards to bitcoin, only a bundle of characters

Oedipus The King Blindness
Blind by Choice: From Dark to Light and Back Again Oedipus the King is the complex and twisted
story of a man who flees his homeland with hopes of escaping the fulfillment of a prophecy. However,
in the action of fleeing he actually collides with his fate. The images of sight and blindness are woven
throughout this drama of Oedipus search for the truth; Sophocles repeatedly uses these two opposite
ideas to expose the condition which is so often shared by a large portion of humanity. Blindness and
sight are depicted both literally and figuratively in this Greek tragedy. Oedipus journey begins in the

Tiresias is summoned to help Oedipus in his quest; this blind man is the one character who truly sees
the situation. The king greets the seer with compliments saying, Though your eyes can t see it, your
mind is well aware of the plague that afflicts us (366 367). The soothsayer does not care for flattery as
he realizes he never should have come to Thebes to be part of this inquiry. Though Tiresias wishes to
remain silent, the king will not relent. Oedipus grows angry with the prophet and proclaims, Oh, truth
has strength, but you have none. You have blind eyes, blind ears, and a blind brain (446 447). The
wise man attempts to resist revealing the complete portentous truth but eventually gives warning: And
you are a desperate fool throwing taunts at me that these men, very soon, will throw at you (448 449).
Even this remark fails to open the king s eyes as he continues to insult and accuse Tiresias. The
fortuneteller then describes the life that is to come for Oedipus the king: A blind man who still has
eyes, a beggar who is now rich, he ll jab his stick, feeling the road to foreign lands (551 553). When at
last Oedipus realizes he is the murderer he set out to find, he cannot contain his rage. The king

Net Neutrality Case Study
Skeptics of net neutrality can often contend with those who support net neutrality by drawing
comparisons with the Cable Act of 1992. The act was meant to protect the consumers by forcing cable
companies to carry most local broadcast channels and prohibited them from charging local
broadcasters to carry their own signal. One such argument came from Thomas W. Hazlett, a professor
of law and economics at George Mason University; he stated that the act s inability to maintain the
number of customers, let alone increase raises the question of the real effects of consumer protection
laws despite its initial intentions. Hazlett likens net neutrality by insisting that it s likely to repeat the
same consequences, which stifle progress and profit. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Tin Pan Alley consisted of New York City music publishers and songwriters who began the emerge of
popular music in the United States. The origin of the name Tin Pan Alley is said to come from
reference to the sound of several different pianos, which resembled the banging of tin pans. The action
of the Tin Pan Alley sheet music industry took place for the most part on West 28th Street between
Broadway and Sixth Avenue in Manhattan. Many of the music publishers had their offices on this
street (Jasen, Tin Pan Alley ).
During the beginning of this time period, copyright laws were not very strict and most publishers

Songwriters came to the houses to hopefully sell their tunes. If a songwriter were lucky, a producer
would purchase their sheet music and all the rights that come with it. Song pluggers , who were

demonstrating songs to promote the sales of sheet music. They were to be employed by the publisher
to travel and show the public their new publications. Song pluggers and musicians were responsible
for the promotion and spreading of sheet music (Jasen, Tin Pan Alley ). In contrast to the to the roles
songwriters, performers, and song publishers had in the time of Tin Pan Alley, the roles performed by
these individuals today in the music industry differ in some ways. For example, in today s popular
music industry, a musician could write and publish their own music if they wished to. Although not all
musicians do this, it is more commonly done now than back then. I think the roles for each a

Media Violence And Its Effects
Media violence exposure has been investigated as a risk factor for aggression behavior for years. The
impact of exposure to violence in the media the long term development and short term development of
aggressive behavior has been documented. Aggression is caused by several factors, of which media
violence is one. Research investigating the effects of media violence in conjunction with other
predictors of aggression such as; environmental factors and dysfunction within the family household,
is needed in order to better understand its contribution to aggressive behavior. Furthermore, the debate
of whether or not how media violence leads to aggression has received renewed attention following
tragic events; Sandy Hook, Umpqua Community College in Kosenburg, Oregon, 2012 Aurora
shooting, traumatic news coverage, a 8 year old boy intentionally shot and killed elderly caregiver and
countless other events; all of these casualties were caused by media violence. Media violence can be a
murder simulator; by teaching and guiding how to commit aggressive and violent crimes. Aggression
is usually defined by behavioral scientists as behavior that is intended to harm another person.
Common forms of aggression are physical (for example, punching), verbal (for example, saying or
writing hurtful things to another person), and relational (for example, intentionally and publicly not
inviting someone to a social function to harm their social relationships). Violence usually is

Analysis Of Seaworld And San Diego
Summary SeaWorld in San Diego, California recently announced its facility has plans to phase out its
killer whale shows. This decision is what PETA and other oppositions of SeaWorld has been seeking,
but there is no news of ending these shows at their Orlando and San Antonio locations. There is
Federal legislation in the works to ban orca breeding, importing and exporting them for public display.
This legislation is called the Orca Act and is still in its early stages of proposal. Passing of the Orca
Act would most likely be the only way Orlando would stop its killer whale shows.
Stakeholders
Shareholders: SeaWorld s shareholders have seen a steady decline in revenues over the past couple
years, mainly because of the controversy associated with their killer whales shows. Not continuing
these steps in Orlando or San Antonio, will continue to decrease revenue.
Killer Whales: It is not natural for killer whales to perform shows and interact with humans. Stopping
these shows in San Diego will allow them to live more relaxed and more natural.
PETA: This is a small victory for PETA in its efforts against SeaWorld. With this decision, PETA will
continue to push SeaWorld for more animal rights and stoppage of using animals for entertainment.
Employees: Jobs within the San Diego facility with be shifted or cut. The need for animal trainers and
performers will be cut. The face of the company employees at SeaWorld also get asked the most

The Grapes Of Wrath
At the heart of every immigrant s experience is a dream a vision of hope that is embodied in his or her
destination (Gladstein, p. 685). In the novel, The Grapes of Wrath, it is portrayed that the migrant s
thoughts of an American Dream is/was a simple and straightforward notion: go west (California), get
employment and become rich. Little did they that know that an ideal and perfect life was difficult to
accomplish and it corrupted the minds of those pursuing it. The author, John Steinberg, placed a lot of
emphasis on the unachievable nature of the American Dream regarding economic stability in the novel
through the cross country migration of the Joads, their continuous and unpredictable changes in
employment and eventually, their failure to find the success they so desired in California (Aghosh,
Allentown, PA).

The Joads were going down something of a tricky intense street a way of escape from misery to an

putting the family on the road to a foreign place, problems arise (Spangler) and the Joads faced many
problems. Connie, among his relatives, chose to accept reality rather than to live in a fantasy pursuing
the American Dream. For instance, Connie strikes out all alone... he then forsakes the Joads adamant
quest for ranch work for the open doors in the city (Bloom, p. 18). Connie understood that pursuing
the American Dream was an exercise in vainness and although he ran far from the matters of money
related uncertainty by leaving his significant other and child, he was essentially doing what was
reasonable and rather taken after a future that would best suit him. While the Joads were on an endless

Learned Helplessness Study
If you do not feel like you are in command of your destiny, then chances are you will give up and
come into acceptance of whatever situation you may be in (McRaney, 2009). Learned Helplessness is
the feeling of being unable to avoid negative experiences because the past has taught them that they
are not in control. The study of learned helplessness was first experimented on dogs, and later it was
realized that it had the same effects and impacts on humans. Past research suggests that learned
helpless subjects are likely to make internal, stable, and global causal explanations for unfavorable
outcomes, and external, unstable, and specific ones for favorable outcomes (Hansen Thomsen, 2013,

Killing Their Innocence
Killing Their Innocence
So here I was, watching a couple of kids, a brother (9) and a sister (11), during the Super Bowl this
year while their parents were downstairs watching the game. We were playing the board game LIFE .
All was going well, and then the brother (we ll call him Sam) got bored as kids do. So Sam pulled out
his iPhone and started looking for an app to appease his boredom. Before I knew it, Sam opened a gun
app. This application allows the user to select any type of gun, ranging from hand pistols to machine
guns, and make it shoot by shaking the phone which is augmented by the camera flash going off each
time the gun fires. My blood ran cold as I watched him play around and shoot his sister. The only
thing missing from the reality of shooting someone for this precious boy was the bullet ripping
through his loved one. It was all I could do to stop him from running downstairs and pretend to kill his
dad with an AK 47.
We eventually moved on to a kid friendly movie as Sam again grew bored, but the affect does not end
there. To this day, this event still haunts my conscience. How do we as society come to see our youth
play shooting family members as normal?! This is unacceptable! And here is where I take my stand:
We as the role models for the next generation need to stop standing idly by as our children become
more and more desensitized to wanton violence in our media.
In the long run, apps and games have a strong, long lasting effect on the youth of

The news media has a way of making the story more dramatic by adding information that is not true. I
do not feel that they have the people s best interest at heart, the news media is about ratings. The
criminal justice system has cases that are presented to the public by way of social media and it tends to
have a cause and effect type situation. These sensational crime news stories do not provide a very

Research Paper On Ecstasy
Leah Betts was an 18 year old student who died from the use of ecstasy. On her 18th birthday she took
an ecstasy tablet it was believed that she then consumed 7litres of water to contract the effects of the
drug. Ultimately Leah died from water intoxication she d consumed so much after taking ecstasy that
it stopped her brain from working properly and caused it to swell leading to her death. Heart rate,
breathing, body fluids and temperature are all regulated without using having to think about it, the is
known as homeostasis. When you take ecstasy (chemically known as MDMA) homeostasis is pushed
too far causing it to start to break down. Homeostasis usually regulates body temperature to around 37
39 degrees celsius. In order to maintain these temperatures we cool ourselves down through
evaporation of sweat produced from sweat glands in the skin. However there is a limit to how fast our
body can cool down, when you take ecstasy you body ignores the warning signals it is being sent.
Leah however, was not dancing around or exerting a lot of energy for her to sweat or become hot
therefore, it was clear that she did not die from overheating. Ecstasy also affects the water ... Show

Vasopressin is one of the hormones released by the pituitary gland, it is an anti diuretic hormone
which regulates blood pressure and water retention. When sodium levels get too high, your body feels
dehydrated. Vasopressin is then released to allow for more water to pass through your kidneys. On the
other hand, when your sodium levels are too low, vasopressin is no longer released and your kidneys
absorb less water. When you use ecstasy, vasopressin is released because you have taken the drug and
not because your body is dehydrated. Therefore the ADH hormone is produced in excess so your body
retains more water than normal. This is because the hypothalamus is sending signals to the kidneys to

A Long Day s Journey Into The Night
Women are often perceived as mother figures who stand by their husbands no matter what type of
situation they encounter. They are expected to give a perfect image to society and do not get the
greater say. Eugene O Neill s play, A Long Day s Journey into the Night (1940), gives the reader a
representation of a woman who is still influenced by these standard societal expectations. The
character, Mary Tyrone, depends greatly of her husband and will not leave him even if she wanted to.
In The Awakening (1899) by Kate Chopin, the reader is introduced to Edna Pontellier who is the
complete opposite. She exposes the dissatisfaction that women feel and decides to act upon it. These
two characters feel that they do not belong in the lifestyle they are given. They struggle with their
identity due to their husbands lack of affection. As a result, marriage becomes a barrier to their
happiness and individual fulfillment. The sense of displacement, marital dissatisfaction, and loss and
gain of identity pushes both Mary and Edna to take major decisions in order to deal with their pain and
desires. Mary deals with the sense of displacement because of the absence of a stable home. Since her
husband, James, was an actor, the family would have to move around depending on his schedule.
Leaving Mary and her children on cheap hotel room. Mary was not a fan of this, she never had a place
to call home. She fondly remembers her ideal childhood home, and contrasts it with her present
dwelling.

Eating Disorders Are Affecting Adolescents With Increasing...
Eating disorders are complex illnesses that are affecting adolescents with increasing frequency [1].
They rank as the third most common chronic illness in adolescent females, with an incidence of up to
5% 1, 2 and 3. Three major subgroups are recognized: a restrictive form in which food intake is
severely limited (anorexia nervosa); a bulimic form in which binge eating episodes are followed by
attempts to minimize the effects of overeating via vomiting, catharsis, exercise, or fasting (bulimia
nervosa); and a third group in which all the criteria for anorexia nervosa or bulimia nervosa are not
met. The latter group, often called eating disorder not otherwise specified or EDNOS, constitutes the
majority of patients seen in referral centers treating adolescents [4]. Eating disorders are associated
with serious biological, psychological, and sociological morbidity and significant mortality. Unique
features of adolescents and the developmental process of adolescence are critical considerations in
determining the diagnosis, treatment, and outcome of eating disorders in this age group. This position
statement represents a consensus from Adolescent Medicine specialists from the United States,
Canada, United Kingdom, and Australia regarding the diagnosis and management of eating disorders
in adolescents. In keeping with the practice guidelines of the American Psychiatric Association [5] and
the American Academy of Pediatrics [6], this statement integrates evidence based medicine,

Analysis Of Storm Warnings By Adrienne Rich
No storm is experienced the same. Seeing a storm on the horizon has the power to stir up gripping
memories, introspective thoughts, and convoluted emotions. The poem Storm Warnings , by Adrienne
Rich, applies a predictable structure paired with flowing syntax, and ambiguous diction speaking both
of weather and emotions to illustrate that one cannot avoid the tribulations of life, embodied as the
approaching storm, but instead prepare for their arrival. Storm Warnings, true to its literal subject
matter, possesses flowy sweeping syntax created by the strategic use of commas and phrasing to draw
parallels between the physical oncoming winds and the gales of life. The author crafts a long run on
sentence that spans the first stanza and carries on into the latter portion of the second to mirror the
continuous flowing of windy weather and the forward motion of life. Once the speaker notices the
brewing storm, they walk from window to closed window, watching boughs strain against the sky. In
this portion of the affromented run on sentence, alliteration, rhythm, and the repetition of words all
contribute to the impression of movement. The various w sounds at the beginnings of words and the
repetition of the word window create a sensation of continuously flowing forward, especially when
read aloud; the comma adds a small swirling pause to the rhythm, which is then soon after resumed
with the word watching. Just as the poem rhythmically moves forward with its long phrases connected
with frequent commas, so must life carry on with each additional experience, whether it be
misfortunes or joys. The elongated syntax allows all these elements to work together within sentences
to highlight the similarities between physical storms and emotional struggle and to stress the
inevitability of predicaments in life.
Despite the flowing syntax, the poem has a clear and predictable structure to replicate the persona s
calm familiarity with experiencing and answering to storms in their life. It is interesting to note that
even though parlous weather is on its way, there is a lack of panic, chaos, and anomalies in the
structure of the poem. There continues to be seven lines in each stanza throughout the piece;

It surfaces most frequently during puberty and has the potential to forever destroy the lives of the people who are unfortunate enough to be its victim. The disorder is schizophrenia and it manifests itself by disturbing normal psychiatric behavior. The symptoms of schizophrenia are characterized by both positive and negative symptoms. (4) Perhaps what is most convincing, though, are the recent links made between schizophrenia and chemical imbalances in the brain. There are four main hypotheses that support the theory that biological chemistry is responsible for causing schizophrenia. The first is named the Membrane Hypothesis. Observations of persons suffering from schizophrenia suggest that a defect or impairment in nerve cell membranes could affect how neurotransmitter receptors send messages across the nerve synapses. Also, there is evidence of decreased enzymes and fatty acids among schizophrenics. (2) A second hypothesis is the Single Carbon Hypothesis. This theory explains that the single carbon folate serves as a metabolic pathway for several reactions in the brain. One of these reactions is the synthesis of methionine. It has been found that methionine metabolism is defective in many sufferers of schizophrenia. This suggests that folate is somehow related to the disorder, though exact relationship remains unknown. (2) The NDMA Receptor Hypothesis is another suspect in the search for the cause of schizophrenia. According to research, it is possible that NDMA receptor dysfunction may induce schizophrenic symptoms due to the fact that NDMA receptors operate with glutamate, an excitatory neurotransmitter. Drugs that affect NDMA receptors, such as ketamine and phencyclidine, have been found to produce hallucinations. Also, neuroleptic drugs like clozapoine have ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 22. Analysis Of Seaworld And San Diego Summary SeaWorld in San Diego, California recently announced its facility has plans to phase out its killer whale shows. This decision is what PETA and other oppositions of SeaWorld has been seeking, but there is no news of ending these shows at their Orlando and San Antonio locations. There is Federal legislation in the works to ban orca breeding, importing and exporting them for public display. This legislation is called the Orca Act and is still in its early stages of proposal. Passing of the Orca Act would most likely be the only way Orlando would stop its killer whale shows. Stakeholders Shareholders: SeaWorld s shareholders have seen a steady decline in revenues over the past couple years, mainly because of the controversy associated with their killer whales shows. Not continuing these steps in Orlando or San Antonio, will continue to decrease revenue. Killer Whales: It is not natural for killer whales to perform shows and interact with humans. Stopping these shows in San Diego will allow them to live more relaxed and more natural. PETA: This is a small victory for PETA in its efforts against SeaWorld. With this decision, PETA will continue to push SeaWorld for more animal rights and stoppage of using animals for entertainment. Employees: Jobs within the San Diego facility with be shifted or cut. The need for animal trainers and performers will be cut. The face of the company employees at SeaWorld also get asked the most questions and sometimes ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Little did they that know that an ideal and perfect life was difficult to accomplish and it corrupted the minds of those pursuing it. The author, John Steinberg, placed a lot of emphasis on the unachievable nature of the American Dream regarding economic stability in the novel through the cross country migration of the Joads, their continuous and unpredictable changes in employment and eventually, their failure to find the success they so desired in California (Aghosh, Allentown, PA). The study of learned helplessness was first experimented on dogs, and later it was realized that it had the same effects and impacts on humans. Killing Their Innocence Killing Their Innocence So here I was, watching a couple of kids, a brother (9) and a sister (11), during the Super Bowl this year while their parents were downstairs watching the game. We were playing the board game LIFE . All was going well, and then the brother (we ll call him Sam) got bored as kids do. So Sam pulled out his iPhone and started looking for an app to appease his boredom. Before I knew it, Sam opened a gun app. This application allows the user to select any type of gun, ranging from hand pistols to machine guns, and make it shoot by shaking the phone which is augmented by the camera flash going off each time the gun fires. My blood ran cold as I watched him play around and shoot his sister. The only thing missing from the reality of shooting someone for this precious boy was the bullet ripping through his loved one. It was all I could do to stop him from running downstairs and pretend to kill his dad with an AK 47. We eventually moved on to a kid friendly movie as Sam again grew bored, but the affect does not end there. To this day, this event still haunts my conscience. How do we as society come to see our youth play shooting family members as normal?! This is unacceptable! And here is where I take my stand: We as the role models for the next generation need to stop standing idly by as our children become more and more desensitized to wanton violence in our media. They rank as the third most common chronic illness in adolescent females, with an incidence of up to 5% 1, 2 and 3. Three major subgroups are recognized: a restrictive form in which food intake is severely limited (anorexia nervosa); a bulimic form in which binge eating episodes are followed by attempts to minimize the effects of overeating via vomiting, catharsis, exercise, or fasting (bulimia nervosa); and a third group in which all the criteria for anorexia nervosa or bulimia nervosa are not met. The latter group, often called eating disorder not otherwise specified or EDNOS, constitutes the majority of patients seen in referral centers treating adolescents [4]. Eating disorders are associated with serious biological, psychological, and sociological morbidity and significant mortality. • 38. Analysis Of Storm Warnings By Adrienne Rich No storm is experienced the same. Seeing a storm on the horizon has the power to stir up gripping memories, introspective thoughts, and convoluted emotions. The poem Storm Warnings , by Adrienne Rich, applies a predictable structure paired with flowing syntax, and ambiguous diction speaking both of weather and emotions to illustrate that one cannot avoid the tribulations of life, embodied as the approaching storm, but instead prepare for their arrival. Storm Warnings, true to its literal subject matter, possesses flowy sweeping syntax created by the strategic use of commas and phrasing to draw parallels between the physical oncoming winds and the gales of life. The author crafts a long run on sentence that spans the first stanza and carries on into the latter portion of the second to mirror the continuous flowing of windy weather and the forward motion of life. Once the speaker notices the brewing storm, they walk from window to closed window, watching boughs strain against the sky. In this portion of the affromented run on sentence, alliteration, rhythm, and the repetition of words all contribute to the impression of movement. The various w sounds at the beginnings of words and the repetition of the word window create a sensation of continuously flowing forward, especially when read aloud; the comma adds a small swirling pause to the rhythm, which is then soon after resumed with the word watching. Just as the poem rhythmically moves forward with its long phrases connected with frequent commas, so must life carry on with each additional experience, whether it be misfortunes or joys. The elongated syntax allows all these elements to work together within sentences to highlight the similarities between physical storms and emotional struggle and to stress the inevitability of predicaments in life. Despite the flowing syntax, the poem has a clear and predictable structure to replicate the persona s calm familiarity with experiencing and answering to storms in their life. It is interesting to note that even though parlous weather is on its way, there is a lack of panic, chaos, and anomalies in the structure of the poem. The Impact Of The Age Of Enlightenment The Age of Enlightenment was an intellectual and scientific movement which is characterized by its rational and scientific approach to religious, social, political, and economic issues. Enlightenment ideals challenged the way people were taught to think and let them express their criticism of the church, the monarchy or whatever system they saw as unjust. The impact of the enlightenment movement was first seen in 18th century Europe and soon spread to different parts of the world. People who believed in these ideals were called enlightenment thinkers. Enlightenment thinkers were a voice for the masses who felt they were being manipulated by people holding all the power. It also helped the masses realize that they did not need the church or monarchy, and enlightenment thinkers were able to assemble a following to stop people of power taking advantage of those who were not quite as powerful. Enlightenment thinkers gave an outlet to the common citizen who were seeing injustices in their government system. Enlightenment ideals caused a domino effect.
