Meaghan Cheverette created a problem solving framework to address a lack of marketing for her company's IT training team. Her solution was to build a community page using Wix to market the team's offerings. She followed a process of entering the problem, planning strategies like researching different tools, attacking the problem by building out pages on different platforms, getting stuck at times, having "AHA!" moments of realization, and reviewing her work to ensure the problem was addressed. Her framework involved journaling her process and utilizing class lessons on social media tools.

Operation “Blue Star” is the only event in the history of Independent India where the state went into war with its own people. Even after about 40 years it is not clear if it was culmination of states anger over people of the region, a political game of power or start of dictatorial chapter in the democratic setup.
The people of Punjab felt alienated from main stream due to denial of their just demands during a long democratic struggle since independence. As it happen all over the word, it led to militant struggle with great loss of lives of military, police and civilian personnel. Killing of Indira Gandhi and massacre of innocent Sikhs in Delhi and other India cities was also associated with this movement.

2024.06.01 Introducing a competency framework for languag learning materials ...Sandy Millin
http://sandymillin.wordpress.com/iateflwebinar2024
Published classroom materials form the basis of syllabuses, drive teacher professional development, and have a potentially huge influence on learners, teachers and education systems. All teachers also create their own materials, whether a few sentences on a blackboard, a highly-structured fully-realised online course, or anything in between. Despite this, the knowledge and skills needed to create effective language learning materials are rarely part of teacher training, and are mostly learnt by trial and error.
Knowledge and skills frameworks, generally called competency frameworks, for ELT teachers, trainers and managers have existed for a few years now. However, until I created one for my MA dissertation, there wasn’t one drawing together what we need to know and do to be able to effectively produce language learning materials.
This webinar will introduce you to my framework, highlighting the key competencies I identified from my research. It will also show how anybody involved in language teaching (any language, not just English!), teacher training, managing schools or developing language learning materials can benefit from using the framework.

1. Meaghan Cheverette’s Problem Solving Framework
Problem Solving Phases
When considering a problem solving framework, it brings me back to the very first day of class. Adonica
said she wanted to know what problems we had, how did we solve them and what was the point. For
this reason I choose the above diagram to give you a visual aid into my problem solving process. From
the very beginning I kept a journal and wrote down what problems I had, how I planned to solve them,
and how I was able to come to a solution individually and with my peers. Below, you will see the outline
of my steps throughout the semester.
My Problem-Lack of marketing for our IT training team for our employees at
Accretive Health.
My Solution-Create a community page that will market the IT training team and all
the offerings we have for Accretive Health employees.
2. 1. Enter
What do I know? I know that I will need to create a polished product for this class. I need to find
a business problem that can be solved by using social media. I know that currently my
department, the IT training team is very underutilized.
What do I want? I want to market and create awareness of our teams and the different types of
training we offer to help am employee grow within our company.
What can I introduce or assume? I can assume that not everyone would want to take advantage
of the different learning opportunities, so by using social media to my benefit I hope to attract
some individuals who otherwise would not be interested.
What is a reasonable estimate? I think a reasonable estimate is to get the site up and running
during the semester to the best of my abilities and I would like to present it to my manager to
see if we could get approval to actually use it.
2. Plan
What strategies will help? The strategies that have helped me get where I am today are fairly
simple. Is Research, Test, Evaluate, Decide. Each week I come to class and know that I will be
introduced to a new topic, most of the time we have been split into groups and asked to
research these tools together. What I found myself doing is often going back and individually
researching all of the tools to make sure I found the right one to help solve my business
problem, which is the entire point of this class. I would research and test each tool that was
presented to me and evaluate it to see which tool would provide a solution to my business
problem.
Initially I had thought I wanted to create a game that would enhance some of our training
classes, but after about 2 to 3 classes my mind started to shift thinking the tools being presented
could be utilized in a much better fashion. I then reached out to my peers at work and we
decided on marketing our department to the company. My mind the transitioned to the idea of
doing a blog, I made one blog entry and hated it. Thought nope this was not going to be the tool
for me. I didn’t think our employees would get what they needed out of it. Then I made a
WordPress site and I felt things getting warmer if you will, I liked this much better than the blog
and was leaning towards using this tool for my final project. Next, I was exposed to weebly and I
thought to myself this is much better than WordPress lets go for this tool. Well, then I tested
wix.com and that was the final winner. Ultimately I used the same problem solving framework
for all of these tools. I am a hands on person and the best way for me to see if they would solve
my problem was to simply do it! The reason I decided to use wix.com was for its overall ease of
use. I also really enjoyed the templates they provided it really give my page a professional look.
This webpage can and will solve my business problem, my hopes it that I will polish it up over
the next few weeks and I can meet with some members on my team and we and present this
site to our leaders and we can begin using it.
3. 3. Attack
Record all that I do. As mentioned above I kept a journal of what tools I tested each week and
used the above diagram to solve my problems.
4. Stuck
I do not understand…At first I was very frustrated with the final project; I wasn’t sure what my
final product would look like. However, after going through the semester I am able to see that
was your point! There it is, explore your options and open your mind to these tools you have
never used before. I have learned so much in these short few weeks.
I don’t know what to do about… As I worked throughout the semester there was a few times I
wasn’t sure how to use the tools properly. The week that we had to embed a Facebook or
twitter to our page, I thought I was going to throw my computer through the window as I
struggled finding out how to do this. Then, I used one of your tricks and went to YouTube and I
was able to figure it out.
5. AHA!
Try
Maybe
But Why
I have had a million AHA! Moments throughout the semester, I think it was rather comical
actually. I think the next tool I was exposed to was it, then we would get to the next week and I
would say AHA! I like this better for whatever reason.
6. Review
Check calculations and reasoning
How accurate was my result?
Is the problem resolved?
Reflect-write down key ideas
Justify my solution.
When I am reviewing my community page the biggest concern is that I am solving my problem.
Am I using the proper techniques to market our department? Is the site easy to navigate and
find the information you would be looking for? I am able to justify all of the above and will
continue to test these things out with members of my team.
