This document describes several cinematic camera shots and techniques: - The mid shot shows more of the subject's body from the top down to provide context while focusing attention. - The trombone shot zooms the camera in or out at the same speed as moving forward or backward to convey emotion. - The wide shot establishes the background and shows the entire scene to portray a subject as alone in a large space. - The steadicam shot uses a mechanical arm to keep the camera steady during movement for smooth filming. - The arc shot circles partway around a subject to reveal feelings and actions, such as a woman falling to her knees in tears over losing her family. - The close up shot

2. CINEMATIC – MID SHOT
This is the ‘Mid shot’. This shot
shows more detail of the person, but
also showing enough for the
audience to feel like you where
looking at the whole thing. It shows
the top half of the body, as no one
would be paying attention to the
bottom half. This shot works very
well when the intent is to deliver
information.

3. CINEMATIC – TROMBONE
This cinematic motion is called the
‘Trombone’ shot, this is when the
camera man zooms at the same
speed as moving forward. This
shot shows the emotional fear on
her face in the moment.

4. CINEMATIC – WIDE SHOT
This is called a ‘Wide shot’. This is
where someone or something takes up
full frame. In this shot, its also
establishes the background, it shows
she is alone, in a long corridor trying to
run away from her real life nightmare.

5. CINEMATIC – STEADICAM
This is called a ‘Steadicam
shot’. This shot is where the
camera instructor is
attached to a camera with a
mechanical arm. They use
this ‘arm camera’ for a film
which keeps it steady for
filming.

6. CINEMATIC – ARC SHOT
This motion is called an ‘Arc Shot’. This is where the camera is circling the
person, its not always a 360 circle, its can be half a circle round the object. It
shows how the person is feeling and what it is doing. As you can see Sarah is
slowly falling on her knees in tears, because she has realized she has lost her
family and in that exact moment she has no one.

7. CINEMATIC – CLOSE UP
This is called a ‘Close up’ shot. This is a
camera shot taken from a very short
distance from the subject, this is to permit
a close and detailed view of the person or
object. As you can see this close up from
Juno, it shows she is very emotional as
she can see her best friend heartbroken
from the loss of her daughter and husband.
