In this talk we share our experiences developing and deploying a microservices-based application. You will learn about the distributed data management challenges that arise in a microservices architecture. We will describe how we solved them using event sourcing to reliably publish events that drive eventually consistent workflows and pdate CQRS-based views. You will also learn how we build and deploy the application using a Jenkins-based deployment pipeline that creates Docker images that run on Amazon EC2.
Cassandra Summit 2014: TitanDB - Scaling Relationship Data and Analysis with ...DataStax Academy
Presenter: Matthias Broecheler, Managing Partner at Aurelius LLC
Storing relationship data in Cassandra entails data denormalization or pointer chasing inside the application which reduces developer productivity, is error prone, and slow due to lack of optimization. Titan:db exposes a property graph data model directly atop Cassandra which makes storing and querying relationship data fast, easy, and scalable to huge graphs. This talk demonstrates how Titan's features enable complex, multi-relational databases in Cassandra and discusses customer use cases for recommendation and personalization engines.
This is a short introduction to Android Things development. Presentation starts with Android Things OS description, differences between Android & Android Things. Later on we describe benefits & downsides of using Android Things. We give a sample AT usage - from a mobile we're able to set the temperature inside a Home equipped with a Raspberry Pie 3 running AT & Bluetooth Smart thermostats.
The core of the presentation covers the development process - ADB connection, ROM flashing etc.
In the end, we describe peripherals supported by Android Things.
Summarizing we try to dig deeper into driver development for Android Things.

In a recent Apache Flex project, we needed to implement automated user tests. Selenium is an (open source) tool for automating your browser, but there was no modern (aka working) extension for Flex applications. We've created the open source project Flexium, both a JAVA and ActionScript extension which enables you to communicate between Selenium and Flex.
From System Modeling to Automated System TestingFlorian Lier
Often, high-level (functional) tests are carried out manually, implementing a tailored solution, e.g, via shell scripts
or launch files, for a specific system setup. Besides the effort of manual execution and supervision, current tests mostly do not take timing and orchestration, i.e., required process start-up sequence, into account. Furthermore, successful execution of components is not verified, which might lead to subsequent errors during the execution chain. Most importantly, all this knowledge about the test and its environment is implicit, often hidden in the actual implementation of the tailored test suite. To overcome these issues, this contribution introduces a generic and configurable state-machine based process.

There are cases where bugs are discovered only after the product is shipped and used by the end-users. The main reason for these bugs that appear only in the production environment is the use of real user scenarios with real user data. Production debugging is about solving customer-facing issues that aren't easily reproducible in the development or testing environments. When it comes to a cloud-hosted application, production debugging becomes even harder. The code is running on multiple hosts, a business flow can span many services. A remote debugging session with the cloud is dangerous and may introduce side effects to the currently running software, such as performance degradation, interruption of service, and data correctness issues.
In this lecture, we will see how we can remote debug our cloud staging environment, and how we can use Visual Studio Snapshot debugger to set Snapshots and Log points in our production environment.
To get even more insights, the audience will see a revolutionary tool and approach for a collaborative production debugging – OzCode Debugging as a Service (DaaS), where the DevOps and the Dev team can solve production problems together!
You will learn:
1. The difficulties of debugging a modern cloud-hosted application
2. Methods and tools for capturing the state and debugging cloud-hosted services
Embedded Recipes 2019 - Testing firmware the devops wayAnne Nicolas
ITRenew is selling recertified OCP servers under the Sesame brand, those servers come either with their original UEFI BIOS or with LinuxBoot. The LinuxBoot project is pushing the Linux kernel inside bios flash and using userland programs as bootloader.
To achieve quality on our software stack, as any project, we need to test it. Traditional BIOS are tested by hand, this is 2019 we need to do it automatically! We already presented the hardware setup behind the LinuxBoot CI, this talk will focus on the software.
We use u-root for our userland bootloader; this software is written in Go so we naturally choose to use Go for our testing too. We will present how we are using and extending the Go native test framework `go test` for testing embedded systems (serial console) and improving the report format for integration to a CI.

Search and Society: Reimagining Information Access for Radical FuturesBhaskar Mitra
The field of Information retrieval (IR) is currently undergoing a transformative shift, at least partly due to the emerging applications of generative AI to information access. In this talk, we will deliberate on the sociotechnical implications of generative AI for information access. We will argue that there is both a critical necessity and an exciting opportunity for the IR community to re-center our research agendas on societal needs while dismantling the artificial separation between the work on fairness, accountability, transparency, and ethics in IR and the rest of IR research. Instead of adopting a reactionary strategy of trying to mitigate potential social harms from emerging technologies, the community should aim to proactively set the research agenda for the kinds of systems we should build inspired by diverse explicitly stated sociotechnical imaginaries. The sociotechnical imaginaries that underpin the design and development of information access technologies needs to be explicitly articulated, and we need to develop theories of change in context of these diverse perspectives. Our guiding future imaginaries must be informed by other academic fields, such as democratic theory and critical theory, and should be co-developed with social science scholars, legal scholars, civil rights and social justice activists, and artists, among others.

Effective Application Security in Software Delivery lifecycle using Deployment Firewall and DBOM
The modern software delivery process (or the CI/CD process) includes many tools, distributed teams, open-source code, and cloud platforms. Constant focus on speed to release software to market, along with the traditional slow and manual security checks has caused gaps in continuous security as an important piece in the software supply chain. Today organizations feel more susceptible to external and internal cyber threats due to the vast attack surface in their applications supply chain and the lack of end-to-end governance and risk management.
The software team must secure its software delivery process to avoid vulnerability and security breaches. This needs to be achieved with existing tool chains and without extensive rework of the delivery processes. This talk will present strategies and techniques for providing visibility into the true risk of the existing vulnerabilities, preventing the introduction of security issues in the software, resolving vulnerabilities in production environments quickly, and capturing the deployment bill of materials (DBOM).

Kubernetes & AI - Beauty and the Beast !?! @KCD Istanbul 2024Tobias Schneck
As AI technology is pushing into IT I was wondering myself, as an “infrastructure container kubernetes guy”, how get this fancy AI technology get managed from an infrastructure operational view? Is it possible to apply our lovely cloud native principals as well? What benefit’s both technologies could bring to each other?
Let me take this questions and provide you a short journey through existing deployment models and use cases for AI software. On practical examples, we discuss what cloud/on-premise strategy we may need for applying it to our own infrastructure to get it to work from an enterprise perspective. I want to give an overview about infrastructure requirements and technologies, what could be beneficial or limiting your AI use cases in an enterprise environment. An interactive Demo will give you some insides, what approaches I got already working for real.
