Students will learn about natural selection through a blog, laboratory experiment, and Facebook assignment. The lesson will begin with a discussion of blogs, then students will complete a lab by following directions on the teacher's blog and answering questions. They will then write on the teacher's Facebook page about what they learned from the lab and what they liked. The teacher will test the materials beforehand and observe students during the lab. Students must participate in all activities, and their work will be evaluated for points through assignments and participation.

1. ASSURE Method: Wednesday
Analyze Learners: Students will be in 10
th
grade, and there will be 11 females and 9 males. This
course is an Honors Biology class. There are 14 Caucasian students, 4 African American
students, and 2 Hispanic students in this class. Due to the fact this is an optional honors course;
no students require modifications or special accommodations.
State Objectives: Students will be able to demonstrate knowledge of natural selection by the end
of the day with an accuracy of 90% through the use of blogs, a laboratory experiment, and a
Facebook assignment.
Select Methods, Media, and Materials: Students will come into the classroom and sit down
quietly. We will begin the class with a discussion of blogs and then I will indicate students to go
to my blog and look at what I have put on their. I have put directions to a lab on my blog. The
students will then complete the lab and answer the questions at the end of it. I will then ask
students to go to my Facebook page and write on my timeline about what the laboratory
experiment taught them and what they liked about it.
Utilize Materials and Methods: I will test the lab experiment as well as the blogger website
prior to the start of this. I will scaffold and observe students throughout the entire laboratory
experiment. I will emphasize main points that I want them to learn.
Require Learner Participation: Students are required to participate in the laboratory
experiment and complete the questions assigned to them. They are also required to complete the
Facebook activity that I have requested of them.

2. Evaluation and Revision: The laboratory experiment will be worth thirty points when
completed. Students will write a paragraph as well about what they have learned. The Facebook
assignment is worth 10 points and they are required to respond to at least one other person as
well as post their own. I will be able to look through this and check off names. The students will
also receive one point for participation for the day as long as they complete everything and
actively participate.
