HarvardxDesign: Defining your product visionJoshua Wexler
The document describes Vision Definition, which is the first step in Occom's Prototype Driven Development process. It helps teams explore, clarify, and prototype ideas before writing code. Elements of Vision Definition include goals, problems, inspiration, customer groups, personas, user narratives, and paper prototypes. An example is provided for Mylo, an app to help students improve their writing. Key aspects of Mylo outlined include its problem statement, goals, customer groups, personas, user narratives, and a paper prototype of the app's interface. Vision Definition aims to create a common language, surface assumptions, make abstract ideas real, and allow for real user validation early in the development process.

A presentation by Dr Andrew Shaw (Associate Director: PWC) at the Transport Forum SIG 21 April 2016 hosted by T-Systems SA Pty)Ltd. The theme for the event was: "Innovation in Transnet" and the topic of the presentation was: "Innovation in Transnet"
The document discusses rail passenger demand forecasting from the perspective of the rail industry. It provides background on passenger demand trends over time. It describes the structure of the UK rail industry and the roles of key organizations like ATOC and the Passenger Demand Forecasting Council. The PDF Handbook developed by this group provides a standard approach to forecasting that is used across the industry. The summary discusses areas for potential improvement to the forecasting approach.
Corridor X is an important transport axis for the Western Balkan region but is being marginalized in current EU transport policy. Efforts are underway to integrate Corridor X into the future EU Rail Freight Corridor network to attract more traffic. Corridor X faces barriers like borders that hamper traffic flows compared to other corridors like Corridor IV. Steps taken so far include optimizing border procedures but infrastructure upgrades and support from transport ministries is still needed to realize Corridor X's potential.

The positive externalities of road transport technologyTristan Wiggill
- The talk questions some key assumptions underlying South Africa's strategy of shifting freight from road to rail, including that it is being done successfully elsewhere, will lower business costs, and that rail's lower externalities make it preferable.
- Four scenarios for expanding freight capacity between Gauteng and Durban were analyzed, finding a dedicated freight highway scenario and a new standard gauge mixed freight railway to be most cost-effective and fundable alternatives compared to solely upgrading the existing railway.
- The talk argues for considering radically alternative institutional models and investing in rail projects only where intrinsic viability and value-add can be demonstrated, rather than assuming road-to-rail shifts or chasing unprofitable market share from road transport.
SMART's Director of Rail Logistics Andrew McCusker conducted a Rail Directions Workshop in March 2012. This is Andrew's introduction and outline of the workshop.
Market gyrations, changes in freight rates and services levels can leave supply chain officials feeling anxious in their efforts to produce and distribute goods to domestic and international markets. In this fast-paced, interactive session, explored how changes in the container freight sector could impact future supply chain and logistics practices. By looking back, participants learned to gauge when their current tactics may have run their course and when it is time to adjust tactics. The session touched on planning best practices and how to leverage containerized logistics options and service providers to drive immediate improvements.

This document discusses Sinotrans, a leading Chinese logistics company. It describes Sinotrans' achievements in cross-border e-commerce, growing its revenue and shipments by over 200% in 2017. It discusses how Sinotrans is building out its cross-border e-commerce capabilities through initiatives like customs clearance and international trunk lines. It also explains how Sinotrans plans to leverage China's Belt and Road Initiative to expand into new markets in Europe, Asia, and other regions by adding routes and cooperating with local partners. Finally, it outlines Sinotrans' vision to connect resources across countries to enable cross-border e-commerce and share logistics services and technologies with partners.
Synchromodal Transport - Opportunities for entrepreneurs Kees Verweij
This document discusses opportunities for entrepreneurs in synchromodal transport in Northwestern Europe. Synchromodality involves supply chain management where logistics service providers make modality decisions to increase flexibility and robustness. It allows combining inland waterway, shortsea, and rail volumes to lower costs and improve service and sustainability. Shippers delegate modality decisions to logistics service providers. Leading companies in the Netherlands have developed synchromodal networks starting from maritime volumes and now including continental volumes. The document outlines several business cases and lessons learned from implementing synchromodal transport in 2014. It also discusses opportunities for logistics service providers and SMEs to develop synchromodal network capabilities in Northwestern Europe.
Urban Logistics offers unique tailor-made solutions for the transport of goods in cities by consolidating & rationalizing the existing logistics platforms and creating innovative solutions for the future through the use of information and communication technologies.
Over the past two decades delivering goods into cities has become a challenge with cities getting overly congested and traffic jams resulting in expensive logistics bottlenecks. Studies show that the cost of congestion now in terms of time wasted in traffic and fuel consumption is off the roof, almost 200% more than what it was in the 1980s. Pollution, lack of parking bays, and warehousing costs are all restraints that are contributing to the economic cost of urban logistics.
This presentation, part of a class work of Erwan Le Roc'h, Antony Zouzout and Rémi Philippe at ESSEC will explore the possibilities and ideal mix for this kind of project.
Supply chain collaboration in a wider context Tristan Wiggill
This document discusses supply chain collaboration in South Africa and the role of government and railways. It notes that South Africa's logistics costs as a percentage of GDP have been tracked over 12 years and are high compared to global averages. Various factors on the demand and supply sides are explored that could help lower costs, including more efficient trucking, logistics, and a modal shift to rail. The document advocates for collaboration between freight owners, logistics service providers, railways, and regulators to help identify viable markets for rail and reduce fixed costs through things like visibility and learning curves. Government can establish frameworks and policies to encourage public-private partnerships and industrialization.
Vector Consultants has been working to improve performance in the UK rail industry. They have provided recommendations to South West Trains that have helped make it one of the most successful Train Operating Companies. The director at Vector, Alan Stevens, sees opportunities to generate more revenue through improved customer services, drawing inspiration from the aviation industry. International collaboration, such as with Japanese rail manufacturer Hitachi, can help introduce new technologies and practices to further advance UK rail.

This document discusses challenges in dangerous goods logistics during the Covid-19 pandemic. It outlines several dangerous goods incidents at sea in 2019 caused by misdeclared or undeclared cargo. Possible reasons for incidents include regulatory gaps, improper cargo securing and packaging, and lack of fire protection systems on some vessels. Tools are available to manage dangerous goods, but supply chain complexities have increased under Covid-19 due to budget constraints, lack of technology adoption, and limited resources. Remote training and upgraded technology are suggested for moving forward during the pandemic.

Causes Supporting Charity for Elderly PeopleSERUDS INDIA
Around 52% of the elder populations in India are living in poverty and poor health problems. In this technological world, they became very backward without having any knowledge about technology. So they’re dependent on working hard for their daily earnings, they’re physically very weak. Thus charity organizations are made to help and raise them and also to give them hope to live.

What China Europe railway
faces…
• Speed is key in railway, still need to shorten the time to
enhance the benefit for railway solution.
• Customs among different country now is not a big
problem, but need to make sure all the documents are
fit for railway requirement, still have few cases happen
in Poland and China.
• Route in Europe still not cover too much points, mainly
Duisburg and Hamburg (Madrid, Munich)
• Imbalance trade, cost for wagon and containers.
• Subsidy was the hot topic when we talked about China
