Description
• Today Pakistan is facing a lot of social
problems but some are very common in
Pakistan, which are destroying our society
and also economy of Pakistan.
• Like CORRUPTION, Poverty, Illiteracy,
Population Growth, Terrorism, Smuggling,
Drug abuse, etc.…
THIS IS WHAT WE CALL LIFE..
BUT…..!!
• Life can be sometimes not as we think of it.
• For some children, life is a blessing but for
some, it is only a burden.
• They have to work in order to earn their living,
in order to survive in this ruthless society.
• Their childhood is ruined by this curse of child
labour.
This is also Life..
What is Child Labour?
The term “child labour” is often defined as:
“Child Labour” is generally speaking work for
children that harms them or exploits them in
some way (physically, mentally, morally or
blocking access to education),
United Nations International Children’s
Emergency Fund(UNICEF) defines “child” as
anyone below the age of 18, and “child Labour”
as some type of work performed by children
below age 18. (UNICEF)
A Fact..
Pakistan is amongst the top ten countries having the issue
of child labor
• Children below 5-15 in Pakistan are above 40 million..
• 50% of these economically active children are in age group
of 5 to 9 years.
• 73% of them are boys and the rest are girls
1) How and why do children in Pakistan get
into child LABOUR (Causes)?
2) What are the different types of child
LABOUR found in Pakistan?
3) How are the children affected?
4) What’s being done in Pakistan and other
countries to stop child LABOUR?
• Illiterate parents do not realize the need for a proper
physical, emotional and cognitive development of a child.
• Many developing countries like Pakistan, India, Bangladesh
etc. facing a huge problem of illiteracy. Lower class people
are mostly illiterate, so it is difficult for uneducated parents
to understand the importance of education for their
children.
Literacy rate of Pakistan is :
Male: 68.6%
Female: 40.3%
Pakistan has allocated only 2.3 % of the
budget for education, which is 0.3% than
in 1999
• Poverty is the basic reason and driving force that compels these
children to work like labourers and earn a little money at the end of
the day. The bad financial condition up-thrust to the problem of child
labour.
poverty in Pakistan revealed that every third Pakistani is living his life below the
poverty line.
52 % of total population in Baluchistan living below the poverty line, 33 % of send
population are living below the poverty line followed by KPK having 32 %
ratio. Punjab which is considered as the urban area also having 19 %
population which are living below the poverty line.
• There are many cases of child LABOUR where a
child has to work against the repayment of a loan which
was taken by his father.
• Another important reason is unemployment which
forces the parents to send their children to work places
Children are force to follow the foot
prints of their parents.
They are trained from their childhood
in the profession that the family has
been following since ages. So they
are unable to get primary education .
Children are forbidden from doing any
other work. Because of this the children of
labourers, craftsmen etc. start working with
their parents at a very young age.
In villages there is trend of early marriages and have
large number of children. To fulfill the basic needs
they compel their children to do work.
•
Another main reason for the promotion of child labor is due to
the failure of government in practicing the laws to stop child
labor due to which child labor is increasing day by day .
The Different Types of Child LABOR:
 Agriculture
 Carpet Weaving
 Automobile Workshops
 Mining
 Soccer Balls
 Stone/ marble cutting
 Deep fishing
 Glass factory
 Hotel / Textile factory Work
 Street work
 And much more
Carpet Weaving
• Most popular export from Pakistan
• Somewhere between 500,000- 1 million Pakistani
children work as full- time carpet weavers
Agricultural Work
• Nearly 70% of child Labor's work in
agriculture, fishing, forestry and hunting.
• Child agricultural workers frequently work for
long hours in scorching heat, haul heavy loads
of produce, are exposed to toxic pesticides.
Soccer Balls
• About half the world’s soccer balls are made in
Pakistan
• 35 million Soccer Balls are made in Pakistan, and
children make a quarter of them
Automobile Workshops
In one automobile workshop of 150 working
children, 120 of them worked from 8-10 hours
without any safety measures
In one engine repair
factory the lead levels
were so above the safety
limits, that red cells were
mutated. This has a
huge effect on a child’s
mental development.
• In the automobile industry it’s
an unsafe, polluted
environments
• Some chemicals have
messed up their growth
• In manufacturing units
children suffered from
headaches, nasal irritations,
sore throats
and skin rashes
• Injuries from to sharp
instruments and body
aches
• They strain their eyes
and the children also
develop spinal
deformities.
SUGGESTIONS
• Awareness must be raised and parents should
pay attention to the education of their children.
• Child LABOR Laws should be strictly put into
practice, and then our country can easily get rid
of this problem.
• we should to distribute the education free of
cost, give flame to the candle of education and
distribute the light of knowledge among the
people as our Holy prophet (PBUH) also says
that “get knowledge and distribute among
others.”
WORLD DAY AGAINST CHILD LABOR
• On 12 June, people around the world join
hands to mark the World Day Against Child
Labor – to raise awareness and contribute to
ending child labor .
Pakistan’s Efforts
• The Employee Children Act, 1991
• The Bonded Labor System Abolition Act,
1992;
• Punjab Compulsory Education Act 1994
• The government gave free books to primary
schools so parents with limited budgets are
now able to send their children to schools
• NO laws are enforced
• The Pakistan Parliament is a part of the elite,
so they pay no taxes and don’t want to make
any changes to the system
BUT NOW A DAYS….
• Child labourers are working not on their own
choice. They are the victims of their circumstances
and we are taking benefit of their compulsions.
• These children are working as a LABOURER in
school going age for the survival of their families
and to full fill the basic necessities.
• Government should provide the basic rights to
these children and should also help them in
getting education in this way our country can get
rid of social evil.
When the sun falls, and the moon comes bright
The shadow falls all over my life,
They say life is a struggle to strive for the best
For me it’s a few hours of rest…
I don’t need your love, I don’t need your sympathy
Just give me a penny,
to fill my stomach which is for a day empty.
Don’t know what lies in the future can’t say what lies ahead
Why I was born, I always regret…
My dream of life oh God, bless me with four shoulders
What can take me to ultimate heights…
Don’t hurt me, don’t laugh at me
I’m your mere reflection, give me some dignity…
