Originally implemented in 2014, NFRD applicable to public interest companies with greater than 500
employees. Original scope was applicable to: (i) environmental protection; (ii) social responsibility and
treatment of employees; (iii) respect for human rights; (iv) anti-corruption and bribery; (v) diversity on
company boards (in terms of age, gender, educational and professional background).
Major review being undertaken, with specific consultation on trade policy review. The commission has
expressed concerns over; (i) reliability of data currently being reported; (ii) lack of data not being reported -
greater action expected; (iii) lack of organisational awareness on the need to report data; (iv) confusion
received from investors as to where this data is supposed to be reported by companies.
