substances have already been registered.
The list of substances which will be registered
under REACH within 30 November 2010
deadline has been recently updated by ECHA.
The list contains 4.742 substance of which more
than 2000 have been already registered as of
today and users are now able to learn if a given
substance has been already registered or if it
has yet to be registered.

First Substances Added to Authorisation List
A committee of EU member states have voted
to add the first six Substances of Very High
Concern to the REACH Authorisation list.
• 5-tert-butyl-2,4,6- trinitro-m-xylene (musk
xylene)
• 4,4' - diaminodiphenylmethane (MDA)
• hexabromocyclododecane (HBCDD)
• bis(2-ethylhexyl)phthalate (DEHP)
• benzyl butyl phthalate (BBP)
• dibutyl phthalate (DBP)
Authorisation is the final phase of the REACH
process, meaning that substances cannot be
produced or used in the European Union unless
an authorisation has been given for a specific
use.
The European Chemicals Agency (ECHA) has set
so-called "sunset-dates" and under the agreed
rules, musk xylene and MDA cannot be used
from 42 months after the law enters into force
which is expected early in 2011.
DBP, BBP and DEHP phthalates cannot be used
from 48 months and flame retardant HBCDD
from 54 months.

C&L proposal for six substances
ECHA has published proposals for the harmonised
classification and labelling (C&L) of six substances
for which deadline for comments is next 3
December :
• Amines, coco alkyl;
• Amines, hydrogenated tallow alkyl;
• Amines, Tallow Alkyl;
• Octadecylamine;
• (Z)-octadec-9-enylamine;
• Fenamiphos

A portal for Global Chemicals Safety Information
The International Council of Chemical Associations
(ICCA) has launched a new portal for global
chemicals safety information that provides free,
public access to safety and health information on
chemical substances.
The portal is provided under ICCA’s Global Product
Strategy (GPS) which addresses the product
stewardship components of Responsible Care - the
chemical industry’s premier environmental, health,
safety and sustainable development initiative.
To date more than 1,200 chemical safety
summaries are available and the number of
substances covered is increasing daily.

GHG - ICAO agreement allows for airline
inclusion in ETS
International Civil Aviation Organisation
(ICAO) has agreed during a recent meeting
that the EU could extend its Emissions
Trading Scheme (ETS) to all airlines.
