Charles Lamb Essays
Crafting an essay on "Charles Lamb Essays" can be a challenging endeavor, requiring a delicate
balance between literary analysis, historical context, and personal interpretation. The difficulty
lies in navigating the intricate web of Lamb's prose, which often combines humor, nostalgia, and
profound insight. Understanding the nuances of Lamb's writing style and the socio-cultural
milieu in which he lived is crucial for a comprehensive exploration.
Moreover, delving into the myriad themes within Lamb's essays demands a keen analytical eye.
From the whimsicality of his "Essays of Elia" to the melancholic undertones in his reflections on
life and society, capturing the essence of Lamb's thought process can be both intricate and
demanding. Unraveling the layers of his essays requires a deep appreciation for the complexities
of 19th-century literature and an ability to contextualize Lamb's work within the broader literary

a review of primary sources but also a perusal of critical analyses and scholarly interpretations to
enrich one's understanding and present a well-rounded perspective.
The challenge intensifies when attempting to infuse a personal touch into the essay without
overshadowing the primary focus on Lamb's work. Balancing personal insights and scholarly
rigor requires finesse, as the essay should not merely be a regurgitation of existing knowledge
but a unique synthesis of the writer's interpretation and critical discourse.

Similarities Between Mary Wollstonecraft And John Stuart
Mill
A Woman s Right: A Human Issue The works of Mary Wollstonecraft and John
Stuart Mill delved into the subject matter of women s rights and equality. Both
authors strike milestone by composing works regarding forward thinking that
discussed women s issues and being the first or one of first ever to address the
subject matter. Mill was influenced by Wollstonecraft with his book, though he
never mentioned that he was because her life very scandalous (extramarital affairs
and birthing a child with one of her ( boy toys ), yet it was known publicly, his wife,
Harriet Taylor provoked and inspired him to write on the topic of women s rights.

Mill maintains that the issue perseveres because of the manner in which our culture
views women. He argues that from marriage the inception of roots grew in our
society started the oppression of women subconsciously. Mill mentions along with
several other roots, like the idea of predetermination of the role of the family. He
discussed the equality and privilege differences for male and female. Because of
inequality in marriage and in the household the image of women was at risk.
Specifically, he confers the methods in which the subordination of women adversely
affects the women, but too the men and children in the family. This subordination
hinders and cancels the moral and intellectual growth of women by limiting their field
of activities, subsequently, shoving them either into self denial or into self
centeredness and being
Clean Water Act Protects Water
A Priceless Natural Resource Clean Water Water is necessary to sustain life. Water
not only sustains life, but it is the very foundation for life. Where does the water
we drink come from? Our water comes from many different sources such as
groundwater, lakes, rivers, reservoirs, aquifers, springs and streams. In order for
this water to sustain our life, it must be clean. Water is needed to meet the
demands of people in their everyday life. This includes the need for water in
homes, agriculture, industry, medicine and recreation. For health and prosperity
people must have access to clean, safe water. Water is regulated at the federal, state
and local level. The Clean Water Act protects water at the federal level. The
Environmental Protection Agency regulates the standards for contaminants in
water. In order for our water to be clean, we must protect our water sources from
pollution and contaminants. This is why we need to care for the water that we
have. Humans need water in order to survive. Our bodies are about 60 percent
water, the brain is about 70 percent water, and the lungs are made of 90 percent
water. Water is more important for you to survive than food is. When you become
dehydrated, it reduces the amount of blood flow in your body, and causes your heart
to work harder, and pump the blood faster. If you go long enough without water you
ll eventually enter into coma and die. You can also drink too much water. When you
drink too much water you can
What Is Matric Rage Essay
LO Task Part A: Research and presentation 1.Matric rage provides teenagers with a
time to relax and de stress after having an extremely tough twelve years at school.
Teenagers go dancing, listen to great music by some of SA s biggest artists whilst
spending time with their friends. However, parents have the idea that matric rage
entails drug and alcohol abuse, unprotected sex and complete lack of self control.
2.A rite of passage is associated with a ceremonial procedure that marks some

First Time Homebuyer
Have you ever dreamed about buying your own house? Do you think your ready to
sign that dotted line? Well let me tell you, buying a house can be a long and
complicated process. It can be stressful for anyone let alone a first time homebuyer.
Most new homebuyers are excited to finally have a place of their own, but rarely are
they prepared for when that day comes. There are important things you should know
and do before buying a house.
The first important thing you should know is that your credit score plays a hug role
in getting mortgage. All homebuyers must have a minimum credit score of 620 to
qualify for mortgage loan. Your credit score also determines the banks risk factor.
Banks and lenders see individuals with good credit score as low risk factors. Having
a good credit score will often give you more options in lenders.
Another important thing a first time homebuyer needs to know is the role that down

There are many banks out there that deal with mortgages loans and they all have
different terms. Some banks have stricter terms than other such as early payoff
penalty. Other banks may offer special promotions such as The U.S Department of
Veteran Affairs often requires zero down payment or mortgage insurance. You
should ask friends and family members what bank they are working with and what
the pros and cons to those banks. Make sure you do all research possible and then
choose the lender that works for you best.
In conclusion, having a good credit score and money saved up for a down payment as
well as choosing the right lenders will make the process of buying a house less
stressful. You should take your time and fully understand all that goes into buying a
house before signing that dotted
Robert K. Merton Strain Theory
The strain theory, which states American culture defines goals which the social
structure blocks many members of the lower income class from achieving due to lack
of opportunities such as education and reliable jobs, was developed in 1938 by
Robert K. Merton. Merton s strain theory is broken down into the five modes of
adaptation, conformity, innovation, ritualism, retreatism, and rebellion. Conformity is
the acceptance of cultural goals and the traditional means of reaching them.
Innovation is the acceptance of cultural goals but the rejection of the traditional
means of reaching them. Ritualism is the rejection of cultural goals but the routinized
acceptance of the means of achieving them. Retreatism is the rejection of both the
cultural goals and the traditional means of reaching them. Rebellion involves special
cases where the individual rejects both the cultural goals and the traditional means of
reaching them but actively tries to replace both elements with different goals and
means of achieving them. Among the people who have elaborated upon Merton s
strain theory are Steven F. Messer, Albert Cohan, Richard Rosenfeld, and more
recently, in 1992, Robert Agnew.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Agnew believes there are three main, related goals everyone strives to achieve,
money, status and/or respect, and, in the case of adolescents, independence from
adults. Agnew classifies the strain that can prevent someone from reaching these
goals into two broad categories. The first category is others prevent you from
achieving your goal. The second one is others take things from you that you value or

The Original Quote Analysis
The original quote, titled as I was born to make mistakes not to fake perfection,
from Drake, demonstrates that everyone makes mistakes. The singer goes on to
explain we weren t born to be perfect. While some might view these lyrics as advice
to stop trying to be perfect. The quote suggest that the writer is held to standard of
perfection when in reality he isn t perfect. I found the original text interesting
because a lot of celebrities portray to the media they have perfect lifestyles. Whereas,
Drake acknowledged he s only humanand makes mistakes too, even though he is a
celebrity. Another thing that was fascinating about the original quote was he
acknowledged that people weren t born to fake perfection. I choose to remix and
change the original version to display more irony.
The remix and original have similarities and differences. One attribute that the remix
and original version have in common is that they both portray the message that
perfection is inevitable. The reason this attribute stayed the same is that most
celebrities put on a show that they are perfect. While my ... Show more content on

I wanted the two versions to be similar but still be different in a visual aspect. I also
changed the word perfect to spell out as perfetc. I made the small grammatical
change because I thought it displayed irony. I believe that theses changes improved
my remix because it made my point clear. Initially, I talked with my peer named
Wendi, and asked if my irony was made clear by saying, I was born perfect I don t
make mistakes. After getting feedback from Wendi, I decided to add more irony by
spelling perfect wrong. Another helpful comment she made me think about was,
why I chose this quote from Drake? I explained to her that Drake was one of few
celebrities to bring attention to the reality of celebrities lives. Overall, the feedback
helped me question my overall project and what my message
Neorealism In Bicycle Thieves, And Roberto Rossellini
Vittorio De Sica and Roberto Rossellini composed two of the most influential Italian
films of all time. Their productions of such captivating and eloquent pieces, during
critical moments in Italy s history, have shed light upon ethics and political quarrel
present after the world wars. The wars left Italyin a devastating state, the economy
ruptured, and the film industry dismantled by this detrimental catastrophe. With the
introduction of neorealist films Bicycle Thieves and Rome Open City, society
becomes acquainted with the richness of everyday life in Italy. De Sica s Bicycle
Thieves demonstrates a pure vision of neorealism, making each event as objective
as possible, reinforcing the meaningfulness of reality, and reproducing it at
exceptional degrees. On the other hand, Rossellini s Rome Open City offers a
diverse approach to neorealism, straying away from the conventional rules, depicting
Italy in light of Fascist regimes, and focusing its attention on the attitudes of
individuals in political crisis. De Sica s Bicycle Thieves, and Rosselini s Rome Open
City, are films that differ in the representation of societal values and political attitudes.
Bicycle Thieves is an alluring piece, which details the undue hardship Italy faces
after World War II (WWII) in 1948. There are various aspects within the film that
demonstrate the undeniable pure quality of De Sica s work as a neorealist picture.

Article Summary of Teaching All Learners As If They Are...
Article Summary: Teaching All Learners as if they are Special
Introduction
This article, published in 2002 by Nancy Gadbow, examines some of the issues
experienced by adult learners with special needs. The author asserts the concept of
diversity should include special needs and differences in terms of disability, ethnicity,
culture, language, age, gender, experience, and geography. Furthermore in order to
give each person equal access to the curriculum a range of instructional approaches
and technologies should be incorporated into the learning environment.
Discussion
Gadbow believes it is the duty of adult educators to instill a life long love of
learning into their students, helping adults learn how to learn is the most important
thing a teacher ever does (p. 53). The first responsibility of educators working with
adults is to help them identify their learning styles and differences as well as other
special learning needs, and then provide effective strategies to adapt to these
individual learning needs (53). The author s contention that all learners are special
means seeing the possibilities as well as the problems or particular needs of each
student as they present themselves. The author believes that as the United States
prepares individuals to enter the workforce in the twenty first century addressing
individual learner s needs and differences becomes even more critical. Rapid

Essay On Equal Pay Act
The Equal Pay Act: a Failure?
Women have faced gender wage discrimination for decades. The gender pay gap is
the difference between what a male and a female earns. It happens when a man
and a woman standing next to each other doing the same job for the same number
of hours get paid different salaries. On average, full time working women earn just
77 cents for every dollar a man earn. When you compare a woman and a man doing
the same job, the pay gap narrows to 81 percent (81%) (Rosin). Fifty one years ago,
in order to stop the gender gap discrimination, Congress enacted the Equal Pay Act
of 1963. The act states that all women should receive equal pay for equal work .
Unfortunately, even in 2014 the gender pay gap persists and even ... Show more

GM faced criticism based on accusations that Mary Barra, its new chief executive
officer, was not being paid enough. Like women before her, it seems as if Barra
should not be earning less than her male predecessors for doing exactly the same
job. On December 10, 2013, GM named Mary Barra to succeed Dan Akerson as
CEO who became the first women to ever run a major automaker. Last week, Fox
reported that Barra was earning about half the salary of her predecessor, which
drew attention on the income disparities that remained between the sexes.
According to Fox, by comparison her predecessor, Dan Akerson, who exited the
company Jan. 15, received an annual salary of $1.7 million in 2012, with $7.3
million in short term stock awards, totaling about $9 million. His compensation did
not include long range incentives. The company did not disclose what Mr.
Akerson earned last year (Kolhatkar). This also reveals how gender discrimination
still occurs and that the Equal Pay Act is inefficient: a failure. Moreover, GM has
shown stronger profits. The company turned profits over the last three years and is
expected to earn about $6 billion in 2013 (Kolhatkar). This would at least allow
them a little room to pay Barra anything less than a male CEO at GM.
Studies show that women have made enormous progress on some fronts. Women

Beech-Nut Case
A former facility for baby food manufacturer Beech Nut has fallen into disrepair
over the seven years it has sat vacant. Now, the company is refusing to comply with
an Environmental Protection Agency order requiring them to clean up the 26 acre
area in Canajoharie, New York. According to The Daily Gazette, the EPA has
declared the area a superfund site due to asbestos contamination, and its order
required the company to remove asbestos containing materials from the area. From
1891 to 2010, the company operated a canning facility at the site until flooding
caused it to move its operation to Florida. The EPA believes the company knew of
the asbestos prior to 2012, when they sold the property. Beech Nut is refusing to

The Social Responsibility Of The Workplace
Introduction
Archie Carroll defines corporate social responsibility (CSR) as the social
responsibility of business encompassing the economic, legal, ethical, and
discretionary expectations that society has of these organizations at a given point in
time. (Crane, 5) Interesting enough, there has been an abrupt growth of firm s
engagement in CSR within all industries. This is the result of growing requests from
the civil society demanding firms, of all sizes, to legitimize their practices. (Crane, 4)
More importantly, workplace issues have become an integral part of corporate social
responsibility. This includes a firm s lacking efforts in its occupational health and
safety, and its fair pay and conditions, amongst others. (Crane, 253) As employees
reside in the midst of companies engaging in corporate social responsibility, the
reputation of the firm relies profoundly on ensuring all those within the in house
workplaces as well as the outsourced workplaces are treated justly and within the
operating country s legislation. (Crane, 253) Further to this, social injustice that
occurs can negatively affect the firm s reputation and brand favorability. (Crane, 254)
Therefore, it was within the firm s best interests to fulfill their core corporate
responsibilities in the workplace. Albeit corporations may have the intention to act
within labour standards, circumstances do arise where the rights of employees are
neglected and the morality of the firm is questioned.
The Past of
Biblical Allusions In Paradise Lost
John Milton s Paradise Lost is an epic poem exposing the theme of knowledge and
the fall of man through scriptural beliefs by referencing the Bible. The first two
parts take place in hell and by part three the visiting of heaven and earth take place.
Part three mentions the gates of heaven as a reference to the ladder envisioned by
Jacob in the Book of Genesis. The line is significant to the poem because it articulates
the connection between the Bible and Paradise Lostin where both experience a
moment where becoming good or bad are at crossroads.
In the bible Jacob tricked Isaac by impersonating his brother and is forced to
escape as to not get killed. He falls asleep and is led to his moment of crossroad
because he ...had a dream in which he saw a stairway resting on the earth, with its
top reaching to heaven, and the angels of God were ascending and descending on
it (Genesis 28:12). This stairway that Jacob saw is what ties heaven and earth to
each other. Through the passageway angles travel to help God. In this moment
Jacob finds himself a cross road between becoming good or continuing to behave
bad and being in situations like he is in currently where he must run for his life. By
seeing the stairway in that moment Jacob decides to grow and prosper with the help
of God. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Since the gate leads into heaven that means it can also lead angels down to earth.
Satan seeing this gate and knowing what it does finds a way to use it to his
advantage. He flies up to the sky and spies on God s creation of earth and mankind.
He watches Uriel, who guards the Earth and manipulates him by turning himself into
a charming non harming creature so he can ask to travel down. This is where Satan
takes the opportunity to infiltrate mankind and leads him into seducing Eve into
sinning. Which ultimately becomes known as the original
Oceanography Response
Oceanography Article Response The article that I read is entitled Why the Earth s
past has scientists so worried about the Atlantic Ocean s Circulation . This article
analyzes how global climate change may be contributing to the disruption of the
North Atlantic Ocean circulation pattern. Additionally, this article is about how the
circulation of the ocean closely correlates with major climate change, like glacial ice
ages, which can possibly help us predict such events.
In recent months, scientists have been taking notice to record cool temperatures
observed in the North Atlantic Ocean, while the rest of the world is experiencing
record warmth. They believe this cooling of the water to be due to the accelerated
melting of the Greenland ice ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Scientists have studied the ocean s history and discovered that this occurrence has
happened many times before, and for at least the past 70,000 years it has been
closely related to major climatic shifts on Earth. They believe the phenomenon that is
occurring is when ocean circulation, or overturning , changes or weakens, less heat
is carried toward the northern hemisphere, which can cause a stadial, or cold period.
Another question to ask is how do scientists know this has occurred before? That
answer can be found within tiny sea organisms called foraminifera. These organisms
were found in a core sample that was taken from an area where the less corrosive
waters of the North Atlantic and more corrosive waters of the South Atlantic meet.
The distinct characteristics of these waters have different effects on the shells of
these tiny microorganisms, therefore, scientists can look at them and tell where they
came from.
Upon examining the shells, researchers were able to determine when the area was
enriched with water traveling down from the North Atlantic, and when the area was
enriched with waters from the South Atlantic instead. This allowed them to determine
the past patterns of circulation because more of the salty North Atlantic water means
good circulation, and more South Atlantic water implies the circulation was poor, as
it is currently. This gave the scientists a great deep ocean record and exploited the
immense changes that have occurred in ocean
Strengths And Weaknesses Of Chipotle
Chipotle ventured into a new territory when it was created, as it had an innovative
vision for fast casual restaurants. By using fresh and quality ingredients, Chipotle
raised the bar in their segment. The service line where customers could see their
order being prepared enhanced the experience of Chipotle. Consumers who were
used to eating at fast casual restaurants where the food was frozen and made out of
sight were able to savor the uniqueness of Chipotle. These differences helped
Chipotle become successful. However, as competitors copy the traits that make
Chipotle unique, Chipotle must adapt and overcome in order to remain a profitable
company. Chipotle saw an opportunity in the fast casual restaurant industry and
launched an innovative concept. It believes that fresh and quality ingredients are key
and that customers are willing to pay more for such ingredients. To ensure such
ingredients, Chipotle uses a large amount of organic food in their restaurants. This
not only creates fresher and healthier food options for consumers, but also assists
local farms that supply the organic food. Not only does Chipotle use organic food,
but it uses produce that is in season. This reduces the costs of transporting produce
and ensures that the ingredients are fresh. While competitors attempt to replicate the
menu, style, and flavors of Chipotle, they do not have the resources to use organic
ingredients as efficiently as Chipotle does. This is one strength of

Study Program Essay
Forensic psychology has made unique contributions to risk assessment with respect to
the potential for violence and dangerousness, the accuracy of eye witness testimony,
the dimensions and assessment of legal competency According to Krauss, Liberman,
Olson, the Texas dealth penalty case Barefoot v. Estelle showed that jurors are more
influenced by less scientific clinical expert testimony, and less influenced by more
scientific actuarial expert testimony. By applying cognitive experiential self theory

Juror bias against this form of testimony could lead to unjust outcomes for defendants
when more scientifically valid guided professional judgment expert testimony is
weighed less heavily by jurors than less accurate clinical expert testimony. Although
the goal of this study was to misrepresent processing mode in order to better
understand when participants would apply different types of expert testimony, it is
possible that courts or attorneys might want to inspire jurors to embrace experiential
or rational processing modes. The results of this study are consistent with those that
would have been predicted by CEST. According to the article jurors who received an
experiential mode manipulation found the clinical expert testimony more significant
in their decisions than the other two types of expert testimony presented while jurors
who received a rational model manipulation found the actuarial expert testimony more
powerful than other types of expert testimony (Krauss, Liberman, Olson, 2004).
Although this testimony s poor performance in one study of mock jurors is not
sufficient grounds for large scale concern, it is troubling that this testimony
performed so poorly in equivalence with other types of expert testimony utilized
(Krauss, Liberman, Olson). Forensic psychologists are not allowed to testify on the
Rousseau Evil By Nature
First edition of the discourse on the origin and foundations of inequality among men
(1755)
From the budget that the structure and the figure of the man have always been the
same, Rousseau looks primitive man as a being dedicated to life wandering and wild.
Morally the wild man is distinguished of the animal by being free and perfectible,
allowing you to not blindly follow their instinct, but determined in the sense that it
wants to. In this state the man lives alone, outside the society; his passions are limited
to the satisfaction of the natural desires, sentimental and imaginary superstructures
clean.
Against the thesis sustained by the British philosopher Thomas Hobbes, Rousseau
denies that a similar man is evil by nature; on the contrary,

We All Wear Masks
This semester was packed with new readings on levels I had yet experienced. I was
introduced to new cultures, lifestyles, and the histories attached. These poems and
novels all contained the most unique characters, all of who experienced the most
unusual situations. There was not a character that could match another, each
expressing different talents, flaws, and desires. Amongst our readings, one character
sat on my mind. Isabel Allende s The House of the Spirits had an assortment of
characters, with Esteban Trueba catching my attention the most. He is a
drastically flawed man who craves power, wealth, women, and even love. This
project has caused me to question myself, as I am curious to why I would want to
do a project on such a control freak. I have concluded that I am drawn to Esteban as
a character because of his flaws, but also due to his ability to claim what he wants,
whether he is in the right or the wrong. He is the only character that survives
through the entire book, changing rapidly over the years. My understanding of
Esteban has led me to express his character through art. When I evaluate Esteban, I
think of him as a man instead of as a character in a book. My project idea came
rushing in when I began to think of the many changes Esteban experiences through
the years, along with his many personality traits. In the beginning, the idea was to
paint a single blank face canvas
Issacs Newton Laws Of Motion
ISSACS NEWTON LAWS OF MOTION We described the motion of an object
along a straight line in terms of its position, velocity and acceleration. We saw that
such a motion can be uniform or non uniform. We have not yet discovered what
causes the motion. Why does the speed of an object change with time? Do all
motions require a cause? If so, what is the nature of this cause? In this chapter we
shall make an attempt to quench all such curiosities. For many centuries, the problem
of motion and its causes had puzzled scientists and philosophers. A ball on the
ground, when given a small hit, does not move forever. Such observations suggest
that rest is the natural state of an object. This remained the belief until Galileo Galilei
and Isaac Newton... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
If the inclinations of the planes on both sides are equal then the marble will climb
the same distance that it covered while rolling down. If the angle of inclination of
the right side plane were gradually decreased, then the marble would travel further
distances till it reaches the original height. If the right side plane were ultimately
made horizontal (that is, the slope is reduced to zero), the marble would continue to
travel forever trying to reach the same height that it was released from. The
unbalanced forces on the marble in this case are zero. It thus suggests that an
unbalanced (external) force is required to change the motion of the marble but no
net force is needed to sustain the uniform motion of the marble. In practical
situations it is difficult to achieve a zero unbalanced force. This is because of the
presence of the frictional force acting opposite to the direction of motion. Thus, in
practice the marble stops after travelling some distance. The effect of the frictional
force may be minimised by using a smooth marble and a smooth plane and providing
a lubricant on top of the planes.

An object remains in a state of rest or of uniform motion in a straight line unless
compelled to change that state by an applied force.

Utilitarianism In Chile
In the beginning the nomadic Araucanos had control over south Chile, and Incans
had control over the north. The capital of Chile is Santiago, and was founded in
1541 by Pedro DeVildivia. Chile became independent from Spain in 1818 when
Bernado O Higgins and Jose DeSan Martin where in power. The dictator at that time
was Bernado O Higgins, and he laid down the foundation of the modern state with a
two party system and centralized government. To extend the Chilean territory the
dictator Diego Portales fought in a war with Peru from 1836 to 1839, three years
long. They adopted a new constitution in 1925. In 1970 they had their first president

Essay on Gathering the Facts at the Crime Scene
The excitement of watching a beautiful well dressed medical examiner or forensic
examiner in stiletto heels hovering over a homicide victim is quite thrilling for
television. However, in the reality solving homicides is not as one would see on
their favorite police show. As mention previous, the intrigue with police shows on
television make it difficult to found a jury that have not seen those type show.
Therefore, the court system has a problem obtaining a guilty verdict because jurors

This task can be accomplished through forensic evidence collection. Once the
evidence has been collected, it must be preserved by maintaining chain of custody
to prevent evidence tainting. The evidence will be preserved until it ready for

evidence that is required in a homicide investigation that will assist the prosecution
in obtaining a conviction in a homicide case. The Evident Blood splatter A crime

process that includes documentation of the conditions at the scene and the

There is no typical crime scene, and the evidence found there will vary. (Layton,

for evidence to provide an indication of what actually happen. Did the person kill
their self? Did the victim suffer at the hands of a criminal? The crime scene

Ancient Greece And Modern Medieval Europe
Many historians and scientists regard Europe as completely devoid of interest in
the history of science. Contemptuously, medieval Europe is most often referred to
as the Dark Ages, the epithet clearly illustrating the struggles of the time period
and disdain for this part of history. The modern perception of medieval society is
overwhelmingly dominated by a skewed interpretation of a barbaric, war torn
civilization barely surviving through suffrage of plague and poverty that stifled
nearly every aspect of development. Spanning from 500 to 1400 AD medieval
Europe stands as a pale, superstitious shadow of the Greek and Roman ages of reason
and high philosophy. Undoubtedly, the golden era of prosperity that preceded this
time is much of the reason why Europe struggled for many years after its collapse,
and additionally, why many historians view it as such an unimpressive time period.
Possibly one of the most popularly known time periods in all of history, the Roman
Empire established itself with a long list of progressive accomplishments in just about
every aspect of its society. A culmination of Ancient Greece and the Hellenistic
period, the Roman Empire s innovatory nature fostered continuously advancing
developments, especially in the sciences. Scientific achievements range from major
architectural developments to progress in astronomy, mathematics and medicine.
However, despite the number of scientific advances, it is hard to argue against almost
completely irrefutable

How Did Pop Culture Influence The Culture Of The 1920 s
The 1920 s, also called the Roaring Twenties, was a decade of change throughout the
entire country. Although cultures among the United States vary, the wide spread of
technology is something all regions of America can relate to. From East to West,
changes in entertainment, sports, and radio were major contributions to the change
of pop culture. The 1920 s was the beginning of a new era that shaped the way the
United Statesforever viewed the media. A chain reaction was built throughout the
twenties, making the country closer from coast to coast. As soon as one area thrived,
all three areas (entertainment, sports, and radio) benefited.
The radio especially turned the entire United States towards a new age of
communication never seen before by mankind. What once took days or even weeks
to deliver, now took the citizens only moments to receive the news as it broke. The
radio not only improved the time frame of converting news, but created many new
entertainment opportunities. With the convenience of a radio, it was no longer
necessary to leave the house when pondering upon the score of the local baseball
game. Music also became a hit during the 20s. During this time period, people started
becoming dubbed as famous, or in other words, universally known. In the sense of

Pride And Prejudice Marriage Proposal Essay
In the novel Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen, the comical scene in which the
protagonist, Elizabeth, receives a marriage proposal from her cousin, Mr. Collins,
addresses the issue of the societal expectations regarding women accepting marriage
proposals. One wrong expectation that is reflect in this scene is a women must accept
a marriageproposal, even if she does not lovethe man, out of fear she will never
receive another one. Mr. Collins tells Elizabeth that she should marry him, because
she may never receive another proposal. Another struggle that exists in the novel is

Collins warns Elizabeth that if she does not marry accept his marriage proposal
she may never marry since there is no guarantee she will ever receive a second
marriage proposal. Elizabeth defies this a still refuses to marry Mr. Collins. Mr.
Collins also mentions the idea that a woman should accept a marriage proposal if
it comes from a person who is more well to do. Even though Mr. Collins is more
well to do Elizabeth refuses to marry him. Finally, Elizabeth is sincere when she
refuses Mr. Collins proposal even though it was believed by Mr. Collins and even
her mother that a women is dishonest when she refuses a marriage

female and male sterilization procedures can be reversed surgically, the surgery is

The Constitution Of The Texas Constitution
Bigger is not always better, in the case of the Texas Constitution having the second
longest state Constitution and the fourth most amended Constitution in the United
States, makes it a difficult and complicated document. The Texas Constitution has
been rewritten a total of six times since becoming independent from Mexico. The
most recent being the Constitutionof 1876, which is excessively detailed and exact
due to the framers fear of a strong state government. The framers of the constitution
placed strategically in the body of the Constitution rules restricting the government s
power. Making it inconvenient and difficult to reform the current Texas Constitution.
There are four key functions of a Constitution. One function is stating the source of
power and authority for legitimate state political institutions. Also in a state
Constitution is the delegation of power, which explains how powers are granted and
used by institutions and individuals. Another function is to prevent the concentration
of political power, by supplying political mechanism such as checks and balances.
Lastly, a Constitution explains the limits of political power.
The general basic of a state constitution is somewhat reflected in the current Texas
Constitution. The framers of the Constitution of 1876 called for a strong popular
control of the state government, public officials would be elected by the people.
When it comes to the limits of political power the Texas Constitution passionately

Symptoms And Treatment Of Pituitary Apoplexy Essay
PITUITARY APOPLEXY INTRODUCTION Pituitary apoplexy is a rare
condition that can be missed or misdiagnosed if a strong clinical suspicion is not
present. The consequences can be deleterious for vision or even life threatening.
This remains a poorly understood entity in both its pathogenesis and optimal
management. The aim of treatment is to preserve life, vision and functionality of
the gland. There is still controversy regarding the optimal management of these
patients, especially conservative versus surgical management and the timing of
surgical intervention. What is known for sure is that the diagnosis of pituitary

whether to manage the patient conservatively or surgically. CASE A 33 year old

Importance Of Decolonization During The Cold War
Frantz Fanon also analyzes decolonization during the Cold War and argues that the
U.S. and Soviet Union were interested in decolonizing countries because they wanted
to practice neo colonialism, whereby they maintain power and influence in a
decolonized country so they could continue its exploitation. Fanon argues that the
U.S. and Soviet fleet continuously invaded Third world countries and aided these
countries with military help like Cuba and Laos in order to fight communism or
capitalism, but these colonized or dependent peoples felt like they were being forced
to ally with the U.S. or Soviets in the battle between communism and capitalism.
Fanon explains that Cold Warpolitics played a major role in decolonization because
these colonized countries looked towards the U.S. and Soviet Unionto support them
against the colonizers, which would bring them independence from colonialism.
Fanon argues that colonized countries that sought independence needed to side with
the Soviets or the U.S. because they received aid and economic development from
these superpowers, which they relied on to build urban transportation and
infrastructure to modernize their country. Neocolonialism during the Cold War
created a dependency in postcolonial countries because they relied on aid and
financial credit from Western capitalist or communism countries. For example, Fanon
explains that underdeveloped countries relied on capitalist countries in the West to
fund them with technicians and capital
David Hume Philosophy
David Hume, the Scottish philosopher, is recognized for his philosophical empiricism
and skepticism . Of course, it is not all that surprising that an educated man, such as
David Hume, would attempt to explain the human condition through experience,
considering the fact that Hume lived during the Enlightenment period; a period
during which science and reason dominated the world of thought. In his
autobiography, My Own Life, the Scottish philosopher, takes notice of the fact that
even women were able to partake in the Enlightenment. Hume acknowledges that his
mother was an advocate of this new way of thought. After the death of his father,
Hume s mother devoted herself entirely to the rearing and educating of her children.

must preserve his mind free from all prejudice, and also nothing to enter into his

argues that all men of taste are capable of freeing their minds of all prejudice this
seems questionable. Although it may be possible for a man or woman to entirely
free his or herself from prejudice it is highly unlikely. If a man of taste must be a
man who can free his mind entirely from all prejudice, sure this group of men of
taste must be diminutive in size. Considering his background, it is not all that
surprising that David Hume s theory of art would be so narrow minded. During his
stint as an officer Hume was taught that finding structure and setting standards is

Globalization
Globalization refers to the tendency of firms to extend their sales or manufacturing to
new markets abroad. For businesses everywhere, the rate of globalization in the past
few years has been nothing short of phenomenal.
The bottom line is that the growing integration of the world economy into a single,
huge marketplace is increasing the intensity of competition in a wide range of
manufacturing and service industries.
Production is becoming globalized, too, as firms around the world put manufacturing
facilities where they will be most advantageous. Also, there are increasing numbers of
multinational corporations firms that conduct a large part of business outside the
country in which they are headquartered and that locate a significant percentage of
their physical facilities and human resources in other countries. Many organizations
are locating new plants in areas where wages and other operating costs are lower.
For example, Australia s Hewlett Packard s computers are assembled in Singapore.

The Impact Of International Migration
Throughout the last couple of decades, international migration has been on the rise.
The number of international migrants has increased rapidly, reaching 244 million
people in 2015 from just 173 million in 2000 (U.N. 2015). International migration
has been made easier through the increased amount of globalization and greater
accessibility to transit. Allowing groups of people a greater amount of mobility than
ever seen before. Varying factors contribute to a person s decision to stay or leave
their country including fear of religious persecution, economic hurdles, loss of hope
etc. Specific driving factors however have been proved to be most significant in
driving international migration. In addition, migration can lead to perceived benefits
and disadvantages to both the host country and host natives. Therefore, international
migration is primarily driven by job loss, persecution, and poverty. In addition, while
international migration brings many benefits to the host country, it is often met with
dissent from local people via the emergence of xenophobic movements. Push and pull
factors drive people to migrate internationally. The main drivers of international
migration are job loss, persecution, and poverty. International migration is driven not
just by political violence, armed conflict and state repression but just as much by
economic and environmental factors. This type of migration is likely to grow
enormously in the years to come due to climate change and loss of

My Experience At New York Essay
Two summers ago, I visited New York. Most of what I knew came from television
shows and listening to the stories my friends told me about New York. Television
shows like, Sex in the City and New York Under Cover showed me both sides of
New York. Sex in the City show the glamorous nightlife. On the other hand, New
York Under Cover exposed the violence and the crime. Despite the stories my
friends told me, I wanted to experience New York for myself. To my surprise, New
York is full of friendly people, beautiful architecture, and delicious food. My
preconception of the people in New York was tented by my friends stories. I had a
friend named John, who move to New York from Ft. Peirce. He described New
Yorkers as unfavorable and impolite. However, I did not have the same experience.
The people in New York are much like the people in Miami, with a variety of
cultures. I remember sitting in the nail salon on Jamaica Avenue and this sweet
Chinese woman who was doing my nails, started to speak Spanish. This was
strange to me, but she explained that it is normal for a Chinese person from a
multi family to speak Spanish. The people I met in New York was extremely

with an excessive display of barbarism had made Mary Ann s death noteworthy. The
second victim was much better off than most backgrounds of prostitutes go, a one
Annie Chapman. Her childhood and, later on, marriage was spent in Windsor, home
to the Windsor Castle. She even had a photograph taken of her and her spouse, John.

path as she distance herself from her family and drank more. By 1888, she was
underfed and alone, suffering chronic illnesses. Later, she was caught fighting with

Mom Obstacles
I have overcome many obstacles in my life, the biggest one is becoming a mother.
I have always wanted to be a mother, love children. An obstacle came about where I
had cysts on my ovaries and was told at fifteen I may never give birth to children.
That was the hardest thing to hear sure I was young, but I always pictured my life
husband, children, and happy. It got really hard when I was told at eighteen I
miscarried, not only told I could not birth children but lost one. I was crushed and so
angry with everyone mothers who had kids and did not want them, mothers who
aborted their children, and others who believed God had a plan. I did not want his
plan to be so mean, I wanted a child and I believed for the longest time God did not
want me to. I then decided enough with the blame game and I will be a mother one
day God has a plan. Pray and believing brought me a long way.
With all the prayers and belief that I had I became not only a mother of four
beautiful children but a happy wife and mother. I met my husband and his two
children from a previous marriage. Those two brought so much joy to my life, but
also in some ways caused me hurt and depression. I loved them and enjoyed every
second of my day with them, but they only came on the weekends. I always said to
myself that their mom does not want them, all she wants is the money. So many ...

(Harrington, 2012). My spiritual belief was because of Our God, he gave me the
strength and courage to continue on my journey to find out how the painting looks
when done. I still continue my journey with a Spiritual belief, because in the end
my painting just began when I became a mother. This movement is helping me
move towards a significant part in the creation of positive emotions. (Hefferon

Advantages Of Luxury Brands
According to a study conducted by Brain Company, the number of luxury consumers
has increased dramatically from 90 million to 330 million over the past 20
years(Arpizio, no date). Since Roman Times, people have been using luxury items
and they have become more prestigious and valuable over time than they actually are
due to their unique and different marketing and advertisements. The extraordinary
marketing methods of selling luxury brands include making the products scarce,
touching consumers emotions, using different kinds of advertisingmedium, having
celebrities endorse their products, employing famous designers, and etc. Although
those are all unique advertising strategies of luxury brands which are different from
regular brands, the... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
While regular brands use advertising media such as billboard, public transportation,
radio, flyers, and etc to make their products exposed to as many people as possible,
luxury brands usually use magazines to promote their items and this is maintained in
a membership system(Marketing Promotion Strategy, no date). One of the
qualifications of luxury goods is that only people of the top drawer, who are the main
consumers of the brand, should know the brand or their products. If the brand or
items are exposed to the public, their already existing main consumers will leave due
to the fact that the items they buy are no more rare and they cannot be the envy of
others anymore. This leads to the fall of brand value and this explains why luxury
brands do not make themselves exposed to the public by advertising through
magazines. Another evidence that luxury brands use differentiated advertising media
is that there is a difference in maintaining vip consumers. While common brands
advertise online or through text messages due to the development of communications
technology, luxury brands still use traditional advertising method, which is direct
mail(Finocchiaro 14). By providing information about new products or sale to
consumers who have enough income to buy luxury items and to the ones who use
luxury brands often, consumers feel satisfied that they belong to the prestigious
group and get to feel that they are worth being treated in that kind of special way
from luxury brands(The attraction of direct mail | Tangent Snowball, no date).
Besides, direct mail make consumers see and feel the high value of the brand and the
products with classy quality of the mail(Finocchiaro 15). Using differentiated
advertising media, luxury brands not only enhace the value of themselves but also
enhance the value of their consumers so that they can manage their customers with
hugh income.
Hamlet Corruption And Corruption
William Shakespeare s Hamlet According to American novelist, John Irving, in his
work The World According to Garp, is a life redeeming work in which everybody
dies. Death is the pervading theme of the play. (Sheys 2016) The play has many
examples and imagery of corruption, disease, and decay. Corruption in Hamlet is
shown through the many corrupt characters who perform a chain of events that
show greed, manipulation, and revenge. First, Claudius is corrupt because he
killed his brother King Hamlet because he was jealous of his throne and wife. The
ghost then states, And duller shouldst thou be than the fat weed that roots itself in
ease on Lethe wharf, (Hamlet, I.v.33 34) to compare him too a fat weed that ll
corrupt the garden that is the State of Denmark. He also states, My custom always
of the afternoon, Upon my secure hour thy uncle stole With juice of cursed
hebenon in a vial, And in the porches of my ears did pour the leperous distilment,
whose effect Holds such an enmity with blood of man That swift as quicksilver it
courses through The natural gates and alleys of the body And with a sudden vigor
doth posset And curd, like eager droppings into milk, The thin and wholesome
blood. So did it mine. And a most instant tetter barked about, Most lazar like, with
vile and loathsome crust all my smooth body. (Hamlet, I.v.60 74) Basically saying
that Claudius corrupted his body when he killed him. Gertrude, Hamlet s mother,
is also corrupted because she fell for Claudius after her husband died and refused
to see her wrongdoings even though they her Hamlet. Ultimately the ghost ends up
corrupting Hamlet by putting revenge into his head. If thou didst ever thy dear
father love Revenge his foul and most unnatural murder. (Hamlet, I.v.23.25)
Ophelia easily gives away her love letters from Hamlet to Polonius when asked, as
well as allow her father to listen in on their conversation. She is easily manipulated
by her father without knowing. Rosencrantz and Guildenstern also are manipulated
by blindly following Claudius instructions to spy on Hamlet when they are
supposed to be his friends. But we both obey, and here give up ourselves, in the full
bent, To lay our service freely at your feet To be commanded.
Essay on Life of Eudora Welty
Eudora Welty was born in 1909, in Jackson, Mississippi, grew up in a prosperous
home with her two younger brothers. Her parent was an Ohio born insurance man
and a strong minded West Virginian schoolteacher, who settled in Jackson in 1904
after their marriage. Eudora s school life began attending a white only school. As born
and brought up under strict supervision and influence, at the age of sixteen she
somehow convinced her parents to attend college far enough from home, to
Columbus, Mississippi and then to Madison, Wisconsin. After graduation in 1930, she
moved to New York to attend Columbia Business School. While living in New York,
Harlem Jazz theatre occupied her more than her class did. She returned to Jackson in
1931 following her... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Welty hasn t published any new volumes of short stories since The Bride of
Innisfallen in 1955 and it renewed her interest in fiction. In the early 1970 s to 80 s
she wrote many novels and short stories. Her most complex stories in The Golden
Apples won critical acclaim, and she received a number of prizes and awards
throughout the following decade. She won the William Dean Howell s Medal of
Academy of Arts. Welty also won the letters for her novel The Ponder Heart . In
the 1970 s she published two novels, Losing Battles and The Optimist s Daughter ,
which was much more critically successful and won a Pulitzer Prize. Her
autobiographical book One Writer s Beginnings is a remarkably useful account of her
origins and development as a writer.
Salahuddin 3
For her literary work Eudora Welty has received almost every award a nation can
give. She received Freedom Medal of Honor twice from President Jimmy Carter and
President Ronald Ragen. Other awards include the Gold Medal for the Novel from
the National Institute of Arts and Letters, the Bobst Award in Arts and Letters, eight
Henry Memorial Prizes, the Howell s Medal from the American Academy of Arts and

Edgar Wright
Edgar Wright Hot Fuzz and Shaun of the Dead By Brearna Sandri
Shaun of the Dead
In this close viewing I will be using the films Shaun of the Dead and Hot Fuzz,
directed by Edgar Wright, to show significant aspects/techniques of different scenes
used in both films. I will be focusing on the features of sound effects, dialogue and
comparing near same scenes within two different films and the aspects that Edgar
Wright was trying to cover.
Shaun of the Dead and Hot Fuzz both have fence jumping scenes. In Shaun of the
Dead, the scene is opened with Shaun opening the gate quite forcefully along with
the rest of his team. Shaun says The Winchester s just over there and David says in
a sarcastic tone, Just over there behind the 20 garden fences? When David is
saying the last bit of his sentence the camera pans over the fences in which they
have to jump to show audiences what they have to jump over. For example, to
show why David is being sarcastic towards Shaun, and why it s being used in that
particular scene, Shaun then says What s the matter, David? Never taken a
shortcut before? , and smirks while turning behind, and tries to jump over the fence
but ends up making the fence fall over. He then picks himself back up and subtly
tries to make it seem like he didn t just break the fence. The background noise in
this scene is filled with car alarms, house alarms and deep music/sound effects. This
creates the effect of a crisis situation, as they are in a zombie apocalypse.
The First Mode Of Assessment
In schools, there are two major modes of assessment that are given to students. The
first mode is formative assessment which involves an on going day to day process
that involves various techniques such as observing student performance, oral
questioning, and self and peer assessment. The second mode of assessment is
summative assessmentwhich is typically given at the end of a term or school year. Its
purpose is to give information about what the students have accomplished within a
certain period of time (Education Bureau, 2013). With summative assessment, there
are two major methods of administrating assessments. The first method, the pencil
and paper test, has been used for many years and is the most commonly used. This
method involves test takers reading questions that are on paper and responding in
writing. The second method, the computerbased test, is a newer method that has
increased in use more recently with the advent of better computer technology.
Computer based testing involves any type of assessment that is completed using a
computer (Ahluwalia, 2008).
There are a number of pros for using computer based testing over pencil and paper
testing. Computer testing is more affordable because it does not involve the costs of
paper and printing associated with pencil and paper tests (Hovland, 2005). In
comparison to pencil and paper tests, scoring is easier and students can also receive
instant feedback with computer testing (Parshall, 2002). Pencil and paper tests also

Thomas Hunt Morgan
Throughout the span of time there have been many great scientists. Thomas hunt has
stood out through his practice and was one of the scientists to help create the
chromosome theory of heredity. Morgan was in school for the majority of his life
either as a student or as a professor. He also helped the world understand more about
geneticsin a very proactive way.
Thomas Hunt Morgan was born on September 25, 1866 in Lexington, Kentucky. He
died on December 4, 1945 in Pasadena, California at age 79. He loved to find and
look at organisms he found in the countryside when he was younger. Morgan is
famous for creating the chromosome theory of heredity. Before the theory the world
knew about Darwin and the evolution of animal species, Mendel and
Lois Lowry s The Giver
Lois Lowry has been one of the most influential authors who has ever lived. She
has written so many novels that every time we read one of her novels we have a
desire on reading more and more on what s going to happen next. Lois Lowry has
been very successful on publishing her novels. Well, what I learned about while I
was watching this video was when she wrote The GiverI believe the reason she wrote
that book was because of her son. When Lois was talking about how she gets
influences on writing such marvelous books like The Giver or as well like Gathering
Bluewas that she get s influenced on what she see s all over the world. Like for
instances, Lois Lowryexplains That in order to be greatly influenced on something
you must be thinking to yourself what you re always wondering about .
2. After I have read Gathering Blue and as well The Giver I have clearly understand
on what Lois Lowry is trying to say. First of all while I was watching this short video
about how Lois Lowry explains on why she wrote these books, was because of how
she got influenced. After Lois Lowry son died in Iraq and watched her son s coffin
get lowered to the grave with the American flag on top of the coffin. She had no
doubt that there s so much evil in our world that people are always trying to fight it
until this evil is gone forever. That is how Lois Lowry got inspire which then she
wrote her first book The Giver we clearly see how evil is a big factor in this book.

Why Teens Shouldn T Drive Essay
Why teens should not be allowed to drive
There are good and bad drivers no matter the age group but experience and patience
make a good driver. Teen drivers are new to the scene and when someone is
learning something new, there is always a learning curve and within that learning
curve, there will always be missteps and accidents. Learning something new takes
time and skipping the tutorial to go into the game for real, just isn t safe for the
driver and the other people around the rookie. Teens involved in accidents are mainly
due to their lack of experience and distractions in and out of the vehicle.
Teenagers have many things on their mind at this point in their life, and driving is a
very serious thing. People s lives are in danger when ... Show more content on

Teenagers have a lot on their mind, and that can be a distraction while driving while
at the same time still a rookie. They always have tests to study for, reports due, and
relationships. All of these things can contribute to an accident while driving.
Another factor that tie in distraction and inexperienced teens from driving is how
addicted they are to their phones. Checking your phone while driving is one of the
biggest causes for accidents, and they might think they are in a safe space to check
their phone, but really you always need to be alert and that may cause an accident.
Many disagree with us, saying that teens are actually safe drivers just because they
received their licensed and say that they are patient and mature yet we assert that
those teens are the minority and the public looks at the bigger picture. The
majority of teens are the opposite of safe drivers being impatient and immature
and that is a major concern to driver and everyone else around them. For instance,
In an article called , Experts Say Teen Drivers Need More Practice by Theresa Juva
Brown, a journalist for The Westchester County, N.Y. Journal News, expresses,
Some 3,000 teenagers are killed each year in car crashes nationwide, making it the
leading cause of death for 13 to 19 year olds, according to the Insurance Institute for
Highway Safety (2). Though 3000 lives are not a lot, those deaths
Ordovician Life
For a long period, up till now, I loved the early life of earth. Kimberella,
Dickinsonia, and, later in time, Hylonomus were some of the creatures I studied.
To find out, I went online to look around. The first question I looked at, to me at
least, was the diversity of life in the early periods of life, specifically the
Ordovician. To find out the answer, we must go back in time, at the beginning of the
Ordovician in fact, to find out the answer. I started my research on this topic by
surfing the internet and looking at various websites until I found the perfect one. I
finally found an entire article on how the Ordovician period s life branched out. Next,
I wanted to find out information on the missing link between fish and early
amphibians.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
During this period there were volcanoes dotting the landscape of early Earth. Seems
inhospitable right? You are correct in a way, but there is life here, microscopic life,
but life nonetheless. Deep in the ocean, in the crushing depths, there are black
smokers, early versions of them, wafting out large amounts of heat and food. This is
where early life began, absorbing nutrients from the water. ( Proterozoic: Eukaryotes

Where does the water we drink come from? Our water comes from many different sources such as groundwater, lakes, rivers, reservoirs, aquifers, springs and streams. In order for this water to sustain our life, it must be clean. Water is needed to meet the demands of people in their everyday life. This includes the need for water in homes, agriculture, industry, medicine and recreation. For health and prosperity people must have access to clean, safe water. Water is regulated at the federal, state and local level. The Clean Water Act protects water at the federal level. The Environmental Protection Agency regulates the standards for contaminants in water. In order for our water to be clean, we must protect our water sources from pollution and contaminants. This is why we need to care for the water that we have. Humans need water in order to survive. • 6. Robert K. Merton Strain Theory The strain theory, which states American culture defines goals which the social structure blocks many members of the lower income class from achieving due to lack of opportunities such as education and reliable jobs, was developed in 1938 by Robert K. Merton. Merton s strain theory is broken down into the five modes of adaptation, conformity, innovation, ritualism, retreatism, and rebellion. Conformity is the acceptance of cultural goals and the traditional means of reaching them. Innovation is the acceptance of cultural goals but the rejection of the traditional means of reaching them. Ritualism is the rejection of cultural goals but the routinized acceptance of the means of achieving them. Retreatism is the rejection of both the cultural goals and the traditional means of reaching them. Rebellion involves special cases where the individual rejects both the cultural goals and the traditional means of reaching them but actively tries to replace both elements with different goals and means of achieving them. Among the people who have elaborated upon Merton s strain theory are Steven F. Messer, Albert Cohan, Richard Rosenfeld, and more recently, in 1992, Robert Agnew.... The second one is others take things from you that you value or they present you with negative
  • 7. The Original Quote Analysis The original quote, titled as I was born to make mistakes not to fake perfection, from Drake, demonstrates that everyone makes mistakes. The singer goes on to explain we weren t born to be perfect. While some might view these lyrics as advice to stop trying to be perfect. The quote suggest that the writer is held to standard of perfection when in reality he isn t perfect. I found the original text interesting because a lot of celebrities portray to the media they have perfect lifestyles. Whereas, Drake acknowledged he s only humanand makes mistakes too, even though he is a celebrity. Another thing that was fascinating about the original quote was he acknowledged that people weren t born to fake perfection. I choose to remix and change the original version to display more irony. The remix and original have similarities and differences. One attribute that the remix and original version have in common is that they both portray the message that perfection is inevitable. The reason this attribute stayed the same is that most celebrities put on a show that they are perfect. While my ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... I wanted the two versions to be similar but still be different in a visual aspect. Initially, I talked with my peer named Wendi, and asked if my irony was made clear by saying, I was born perfect I don t make mistakes. After getting feedback from Wendi, I decided to add more irony by spelling perfect wrong. Another helpful comment she made me think about was, why I chose this quote from Drake? I explained to her that Drake was one of few celebrities to bring attention to the reality of celebrities lives. Overall, the feedback helped me question my overall project and what my message
  • 8. Neorealism In Bicycle Thieves, And Roberto Rossellini Vittorio De Sica and Roberto Rossellini composed two of the most influential Italian films of all time. Their productions of such captivating and eloquent pieces, during critical moments in Italy s history, have shed light upon ethics and political quarrel present after the world wars. The wars left Italyin a devastating state, the economy ruptured, and the film industry dismantled by this detrimental catastrophe. With the introduction of neorealist films Bicycle Thieves and Rome Open City, society becomes acquainted with the richness of everyday life in Italy. De Sica s Bicycle Thieves demonstrates a pure vision of neorealism, making each event as objective as possible, reinforcing the meaningfulness of reality, and reproducing it at exceptional degrees. On the other hand, Rossellini s Rome Open City offers a diverse approach to neorealism, straying away from the conventional rules, depicting Italy in light of Fascist regimes, and focusing its attention on the attitudes of individuals in political crisis. De Sica s Bicycle Thieves, and Rosselini s Rome Open City, are films that differ in the representation of societal values and political attitudes. Bicycle Thieves is an alluring piece, which details the undue hardship Italy faces after World War II (WWII) in 1948. There are various aspects within the film that demonstrate the undeniable pure quality of De Sica s work as a neorealist picture. • 9. Article Summary of Teaching All Learners As If They Are... Article Summary: Teaching All Learners as if they are Special Introduction This article, published in 2002 by Nancy Gadbow, examines some of the issues experienced by adult learners with special needs. The author asserts the concept of diversity should include special needs and differences in terms of disability, ethnicity, culture, language, age, gender, experience, and geography. Furthermore in order to give each person equal access to the curriculum a range of instructional approaches and technologies should be incorporated into the learning environment. Discussion Gadbow believes it is the duty of adult educators to instill a life long love of learning into their students, helping adults learn how to learn is the most important thing a teacher ever does (p. 53). The first responsibility of educators working with adults is to help them identify their learning styles and differences as well as other special learning needs, and then provide effective strategies to adapt to these individual learning needs (53). The author s contention that all learners are special means seeing the possibilities as well as the problems or particular needs of each student as they present themselves. The author believes that as the United States prepares individuals to enter the workforce in the twenty first century addressing individual learner s needs and differences becomes even more critical. • 10. Essay On Equal Pay Act The Equal Pay Act: a Failure? Women have faced gender wage discrimination for decades. The gender pay gap is the difference between what a male and a female earns. It happens when a man and a woman standing next to each other doing the same job for the same number of hours get paid different salaries. On average, full time working women earn just 77 cents for every dollar a man earn. When you compare a woman and a man doing the same job, the pay gap narrows to 81 percent (81%) (Rosin). Fifty one years ago, in order to stop the gender gap discrimination, Congress enacted the Equal Pay Act of 1963. The act states that all women should receive equal pay for equal work . Unfortunately, even in 2014 the gender pay gap persists and even ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... GM faced criticism based on accusations that Mary Barra, its new chief executive officer, was not being paid enough. Like women before her, it seems as if Barra should not be earning less than her male predecessors for doing exactly the same job. On December 10, 2013, GM named Mary Barra to succeed Dan Akerson as CEO who became the first women to ever run a major automaker. Last week, Fox reported that Barra was earning about half the salary of her predecessor, which drew attention on the income disparities that remained between the sexes. According to Fox, by comparison her predecessor, Dan Akerson, who exited the company Jan. 15, received an annual salary of $1.7 million in 2012, with $7.3 million in short term stock awards, totaling about $9 million. His compensation did not include long range incentives. The company did not disclose what Mr. Akerson earned last year (Kolhatkar). This also reveals how gender discrimination still occurs and that the Equal Pay Act is inefficient: a failure. Moreover, GM has shown stronger profits. The company turned profits over the last three years and is expected to earn about $6 billion in 2013 (Kolhatkar). This would at least allow them a little room to pay Barra anything less than a male CEO at GM. Studies show that women have made enormous progress on some fronts. Women have not only caught up with men in college attendance,

Now, the company is refusing to comply with an Environmental Protection Agency order requiring them to clean up the 26 acre area in Canajoharie, New York. According to The Daily Gazette, the EPA has declared the area a superfund site due to asbestos contamination, and its order required the company to remove asbestos containing materials from the area. From 1891 to 2010, the company operated a canning facility at the site until flooding caused it to move its operation to Florida. The EPA believes the company knew of the asbestos prior to 2012, when they sold the property. Beech Nut is refusing to comply with the EPA order
  • 12. The Social Responsibility Of The Workplace Introduction Archie Carroll defines corporate social responsibility (CSR) as the social responsibility of business encompassing the economic, legal, ethical, and discretionary expectations that society has of these organizations at a given point in time. (Crane, 5) Interesting enough, there has been an abrupt growth of firm s engagement in CSR within all industries. This is the result of growing requests from the civil society demanding firms, of all sizes, to legitimize their practices. (Crane, 4) More importantly, workplace issues have become an integral part of corporate social responsibility. This includes a firm s lacking efforts in its occupational health and safety, and its fair pay and conditions, amongst others. (Crane, 253) As employees reside in the midst of companies engaging in corporate social responsibility, the reputation of the firm relies profoundly on ensuring all those within the in house workplaces as well as the outsourced workplaces are treated justly and within the operating country s legislation. (Crane, 253) Further to this, social injustice that occurs can negatively affect the firm s reputation and brand favorability. (Crane, 254) Therefore, it was within the firm s best interests to fulfill their core corporate responsibilities in the workplace. Albeit corporations may have the intention to act within labour standards, circumstances do arise where the rights of employees are neglected and the morality of the firm is questioned. The Past of

The line is significant to the poem because it articulates the connection between the Bible and Paradise Lostin where both experience a moment where becoming good or bad are at crossroads. In the bible Jacob tricked Isaac by impersonating his brother and is forced to escape as to not get killed. He falls asleep and is led to his moment of crossroad because he ...had a dream in which he saw a stairway resting on the earth, with its top reaching to heaven, and the angels of God were ascending and descending on it (Genesis 28:12). This stairway that Jacob saw is what ties heaven and earth to each other. Through the passageway angles travel to help God. In this moment Jacob finds himself a cross road between becoming good or continuing to behave bad and being in situations like he is in currently where he must run for his life. By seeing the stairway in that moment Jacob decides to grow and prosper with the help of God. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This is where Satan takes the opportunity to infiltrate mankind and leads him into seducing Eve into sinning. Which ultimately becomes known as the original

This article analyzes how global climate change may be contributing to the disruption of the North Atlantic Ocean circulation pattern. Additionally, this article is about how the circulation of the ocean closely correlates with major climate change, like glacial ice ages, which can possibly help us predict such events. In recent months, scientists have been taking notice to record cool temperatures observed in the North Atlantic Ocean, while the rest of the world is experiencing record warmth. They believe this cooling of the water to be due to the accelerated melting of the Greenland ice ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Scientists have studied the ocean s history and discovered that this occurrence has happened many times before, and for at least the past 70,000 years it has been closely related to major climatic shifts on Earth. They believe the phenomenon that is occurring is when ocean circulation, or overturning , changes or weakens, less heat is carried toward the northern hemisphere, which can cause a stadial, or cold period. Another question to ask is how do scientists know this has occurred before? That answer can be found within tiny sea organisms called foraminifera. These organisms were found in a core sample that was taken from an area where the less corrosive waters of the North Atlantic and more corrosive waters of the South Atlantic meet. The distinct characteristics of these waters have different effects on the shells of these tiny microorganisms, therefore, scientists can look at them and tell where they came from. Upon examining the shells, researchers were able to determine when the area was enriched with water traveling down from the North Atlantic, and when the area was enriched with waters from the South Atlantic instead. This allowed them to determine the past patterns of circulation because more of the salty North Atlantic water means good circulation, and more South Atlantic water implies the circulation was poor, as it is currently. This gave the scientists a great deep ocean record and exploited the immense changes that have occurred in ocean

By using fresh and quality ingredients, Chipotle raised the bar in their segment. The service line where customers could see their order being prepared enhanced the experience of Chipotle. Consumers who were used to eating at fast casual restaurants where the food was frozen and made out of sight were able to savor the uniqueness of Chipotle. These differences helped Chipotle become successful. However, as competitors copy the traits that make Chipotle unique, Chipotle must adapt and overcome in order to remain a profitable company. Chipotle saw an opportunity in the fast casual restaurant industry and launched an innovative concept. It believes that fresh and quality ingredients are key and that customers are willing to pay more for such ingredients. To ensure such ingredients, Chipotle uses a large amount of organic food in their restaurants. This not only creates fresher and healthier food options for consumers, but also assists local farms that supply the organic food. Not only does Chipotle use organic food, but it uses produce that is in season. This reduces the costs of transporting produce and ensures that the ingredients are fresh. While competitors attempt to replicate the menu, style, and flavors of Chipotle, they do not have the resources to use organic ingredients as efficiently as Chipotle does. This is one strength of

Estelle showed that jurors are more influenced by less scientific clinical expert testimony, and less influenced by more scientific actuarial expert testimony. By applying cognitive experiential self theory (CEST) to juror decision making, the present study was undertaken in an attempt to offer a theoretical rationale for the findings (Krauss, Liberman, Olson, 2004). Although the goal of this study was to misrepresent processing mode in order to better understand when participants would apply different types of expert testimony, it is possible that courts or attorneys might want to inspire jurors to embrace experiential or rational processing modes. The results of this study are consistent with those that would have been predicted by CEST. According to the article jurors who received an experiential mode manipulation found the clinical expert testimony more significant in their decisions than the other two types of expert testimony presented while jurors who received a rational model manipulation found the actuarial expert testimony more powerful than other types of expert testimony (Krauss, Liberman, Olson, 2004). Although this testimony s poor performance in one study of mock jurors is not sufficient grounds for large scale concern, it is troubling that this testimony performed so poorly in equivalence with other types of expert testimony utilized (Krauss, Liberman, Olson). We All Wear Masks By Isabel Allende Marissa Wohlferd Dr. Rodriguez MilanГ©s LIT 3823 26 November 2014 We All Wear Masks This semester was packed with new readings on levels I had yet experienced. I was introduced to new cultures, lifestyles, and the histories attached. These poems and novels all contained the most unique characters, all of who experienced the most unusual situations. There was not a character that could match another, each expressing different talents, flaws, and desires. Amongst our readings, one character sat on my mind. Isabel Allende s The House of the Spirits had an assortment of characters, with Esteban Trueba catching my attention the most. He is a drastically flawed man who craves power, wealth, women, and even love. This project has caused me to question myself, as I am curious to why I would want to do a project on such a control freak. I have concluded that I am drawn to Esteban as a character because of his flaws, but also due to his ability to claim what he wants, whether he is in the right or the wrong. He is the only character that survives through the entire book, changing rapidly over the years. My understanding of Esteban has led me to express his character through art. When I evaluate Esteban, I think of him as a man instead of as a character in a book. My project idea came rushing in when I began to think of the many changes Esteban experiences through the years, along with his many personality traits. In the beginning, the idea was to paint a single blank face canvas

We saw that such a motion can be uniform or non uniform. We have not yet discovered what causes the motion. Why does the speed of an object change with time? Do all motions require a cause? If so, what is the nature of this cause? In this chapter we shall make an attempt to quench all such curiosities. For many centuries, the problem of motion and its causes had puzzled scientists and philosophers. A ball on the ground, when given a small hit, does not move forever. Such observations suggest that rest is the natural state of an object. This remained the belief until Galileo Galilei and Isaac Newton... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... If the inclinations of the planes on both sides are equal then the marble will climb the same distance that it covered while rolling down. If the angle of inclination of the right side plane were gradually decreased, then the marble would travel further distances till it reaches the original height. If the right side plane were ultimately made horizontal (that is, the slope is reduced to zero), the marble would continue to travel forever trying to reach the same height that it was released from. The unbalanced forces on the marble in this case are zero. It thus suggests that an unbalanced (external) force is required to change the motion of the marble but no net force is needed to sustain the uniform motion of the marble. In practical situations it is difficult to achieve a zero unbalanced force. This is because of the presence of the frictional force acting opposite to the direction of motion. Thus, in practice the marble stops after travelling some distance. The effect of the frictional force may be minimised by using a smooth marble and a smooth plane and providing a lubricant on top of the planes. Fig. 9.5: (a) the downward motion; (b) the upward motion of a marble on an inclined plane; and (c) on a double inclined plane An object remains in a state of rest or of uniform motion in a straight line unless compelled to change that state by an applied force. Contemptuously, medieval Europe is most often referred to as the Dark Ages, the epithet clearly illustrating the struggles of the time period and disdain for this part of history. The modern perception of medieval society is overwhelmingly dominated by a skewed interpretation of a barbaric, war torn civilization barely surviving through suffrage of plague and poverty that stifled nearly every aspect of development. Spanning from 500 to 1400 AD medieval Europe stands as a pale, superstitious shadow of the Greek and Roman ages of reason and high philosophy. Undoubtedly, the golden era of prosperity that preceded this time is much of the reason why Europe struggled for many years after its collapse, and additionally, why many historians view it as such an unimpressive time period. Possibly one of the most popularly known time periods in all of history, the Roman Empire established itself with a long list of progressive accomplishments in just about every aspect of its society. Importance Of Decolonization During The Cold War Frantz Fanon also analyzes decolonization during the Cold War and argues that the U.S. and Soviet Union were interested in decolonizing countries because they wanted to practice neo colonialism, whereby they maintain power and influence in a decolonized country so they could continue its exploitation. Fanon argues that the U.S. and Soviet fleet continuously invaded Third world countries and aided these countries with military help like Cuba and Laos in order to fight communism or capitalism, but these colonized or dependent peoples felt like they were being forced to ally with the U.S. or Soviets in the battle between communism and capitalism. Fanon explains that Cold Warpolitics played a major role in decolonization because these colonized countries looked towards the U.S. and Soviet Unionto support them against the colonizers, which would bring them independence from colonialism. Fanon argues that colonized countries that sought independence needed to side with the Soviets or the U.S. because they received aid and economic development from these superpowers, which they relied on to build urban transportation and infrastructure to modernize their country. Neocolonialism during the Cold War created a dependency in postcolonial countries because they relied on aid and financial credit from Western capitalist or communism countries. For example, Fanon explains that underdeveloped countries relied on capitalist countries in the West to fund them with technicians and capital
  • 37. David Hume Philosophy David Hume, the Scottish philosopher, is recognized for his philosophical empiricism and skepticism . Of course, it is not all that surprising that an educated man, such as David Hume, would attempt to explain the human condition through experience, considering the fact that Hume lived during the Enlightenment period; a period during which science and reason dominated the world of thought. In his autobiography, My Own Life, the Scottish philosopher, takes notice of the fact that even women were able to partake in the Enlightenment. Hume argues that all men of taste are capable of freeing their minds of all prejudice this seems questionable. Although it may be possible for a man or woman to entirely free his or herself from prejudice it is highly unlikely. If a man of taste must be a man who can free his mind entirely from all prejudice, sure this group of men of taste must be diminutive in size. Considering his background, it is not all that surprising that David Hume s theory of art would be so narrow minded. During his stint as an officer Hume was taught that finding structure and setting standards is crucial in all aspects of

Globalization Globalization refers to the tendency of firms to extend their sales or manufacturing to new markets abroad. For businesses everywhere, the rate of globalization in the past few years has been nothing short of phenomenal. The bottom line is that the growing integration of the world economy into a single, huge marketplace is increasing the intensity of competition in a wide range of manufacturing and service industries. Production is becoming globalized, too, as firms around the world put manufacturing facilities where they will be most advantageous. Also, there are increasing numbers of multinational corporations firms that conduct a large part of business outside the country in which they are headquartered and that locate a significant percentage of their physical facilities and human resources in other countries. Many organizations are locating new plants in areas where wages and other operating costs are lower. For example, Australia s Hewlett Packard s computers are assembled in Singapore. The number of international migrants has increased rapidly, reaching 244 million people in 2015 from just 173 million in 2000 (U.N. 2015). International migration has been made easier through the increased amount of globalization and greater accessibility to transit. Allowing groups of people a greater amount of mobility than ever seen before. Varying factors contribute to a person s decision to stay or leave their country including fear of religious persecution, economic hurdles, loss of hope etc. Specific driving factors however have been proved to be most significant in driving international migration. In addition, migration can lead to perceived benefits and disadvantages to both the host country and host natives. Therefore, international migration is primarily driven by job loss, persecution, and poverty. In addition, while international migration brings many benefits to the host country, it is often met with dissent from local people via the emergence of xenophobic movements. Push and pull factors drive people to migrate internationally. The main drivers of international migration are job loss, persecution, and poverty. International migration is driven not just by political violence, armed conflict and state repression but just as much by economic and environmental factors. This type of migration is likely to grow enormously in the years to come due to climate change and loss of

Television shows like, Sex in the City and New York Under Cover showed me both sides of New York. Sex in the City show the glamorous nightlife. On the other hand, New York Under Cover exposed the violence and the crime. Despite the stories my friends told me, I wanted to experience New York for myself. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... While regular brands use advertising media such as billboard, public transportation, radio, flyers, and etc to make their products exposed to as many people as possible, luxury brands usually use magazines to promote their items and this is maintained in a membership system(Marketing Promotion Strategy, no date). One of the qualifications of luxury goods is that only people of the top drawer, who are the main consumers of the brand, should know the brand or their products. If the brand or items are exposed to the public, their already existing main consumers will leave due to the fact that the items they buy are no more rare and they cannot be the envy of others anymore. This leads to the fall of brand value and this explains why luxury brands do not make themselves exposed to the public by advertising through magazines. Another evidence that luxury brands use differentiated advertising media is that there is a difference in maintaining vip consumers. While common brands advertise online or through text messages due to the development of communications technology, luxury brands still use traditional advertising method, which is direct mail(Finocchiaro 14). By providing information about new products or sale to consumers who have enough income to buy luxury items and to the ones who use luxury brands often, consumers feel satisfied that they belong to the prestigious group and get to feel that they are worth being treated in that kind of special way from luxury brands(The attraction of direct mail | Tangent Snowball, no date). • 47. Hamlet Corruption And Corruption William Shakespeare s Hamlet According to American novelist, John Irving, in his work The World According to Garp, is a life redeeming work in which everybody dies. Death is the pervading theme of the play. (Sheys 2016) The play has many examples and imagery of corruption, disease, and decay. Corruption in Hamlet is shown through the many corrupt characters who perform a chain of events that show greed, manipulation, and revenge. First, Claudius is corrupt because he killed his brother King Hamlet because he was jealous of his throne and wife. The ghost then states, And duller shouldst thou be than the fat weed that roots itself in ease on Lethe wharf, (Hamlet, I.v.33 34) to compare him too a fat weed that ll corrupt the garden that is the State of Denmark. He also states, My custom always of the afternoon, Upon my secure hour thy uncle stole With juice of cursed hebenon in a vial, And in the porches of my ears did pour the leperous distilment, whose effect Holds such an enmity with blood of man That swift as quicksilver it courses through The natural gates and alleys of the body And with a sudden vigor doth posset And curd, like eager droppings into milk, The thin and wholesome blood. So did it mine. And a most instant tetter barked about, Most lazar like, with vile and loathsome crust all my smooth body. (Hamlet, I.v.60 74) Basically saying that Claudius corrupted his body when he killed him. Gertrude, Hamlet s mother, is also corrupted because she fell for Claudius after her husband died and refused to see her wrongdoings even though they her Hamlet. Ultimately the ghost ends up corrupting Hamlet by putting revenge into his head. If thou didst ever thy dear father love Revenge his foul and most unnatural murder. (Hamlet, I.v.23.25) Ophelia easily gives away her love letters from Hamlet to Polonius when asked, as well as allow her father to listen in on their conversation. She is easily manipulated by her father without knowing. Rosencrantz and Guildenstern also are manipulated by blindly following Claudius instructions to spy on Hamlet when they are supposed to be his friends. But we both obey, and here give up ourselves, in the full bent, To lay our service freely at your feet To be commanded.

Edgar Wright Edgar Wright Hot Fuzz and Shaun of the Dead By Brearna Sandri Shaun of the Dead In this close viewing I will be using the films Shaun of the Dead and Hot Fuzz, directed by Edgar Wright, to show significant aspects/techniques of different scenes used in both films. I will be focusing on the features of sound effects, dialogue and comparing near same scenes within two different films and the aspects that Edgar Wright was trying to cover. Shaun of the Dead and Hot Fuzz both have fence jumping scenes. In Shaun of the Dead, the scene is opened with Shaun opening the gate quite forcefully along with the rest of his team. Shaun says The Winchester s just over there and David says in a sarcastic tone, Just over there behind the 20 garden fences? When David is saying the last bit of his sentence the camera pans over the fences in which they have to jump to show audiences what they have to jump over. For example, to show why David is being sarcastic towards Shaun, and why it s being used in that particular scene, Shaun then says What s the matter, David? Never taken a shortcut before? , and smirks while turning behind, and tries to jump over the fence but ends up making the fence fall over. He then picks himself back up and subtly tries to make it seem like he didn t just break the fence. The background noise in this scene is filled with car alarms, house alarms and deep music/sound effects. This creates the effect of a crisis situation, as they are in a zombie apocalypse.

The first mode is formative assessment which involves an on going day to day process that involves various techniques such as observing student performance, oral questioning, and self and peer assessment. The second mode of assessment is summative assessmentwhich is typically given at the end of a term or school year. Its purpose is to give information about what the students have accomplished within a certain period of time (Education Bureau, 2013). With summative assessment, there are two major methods of administrating assessments. The first method, the pencil and paper test, has been used for many years and is the most commonly used. This method involves test takers reading questions that are on paper and responding in writing. The second method, the computerbased test, is a newer method that has increased in use more recently with the advent of better computer technology. Computer based testing involves any type of assessment that is completed using a computer (Ahluwalia, 2008). There are a number of pros for using computer based testing over pencil and paper testing. Computer testing is more affordable because it does not involve the costs of paper and printing associated with pencil and paper tests (Hovland, 2005). In comparison to pencil and paper tests, scoring is easier and students can also receive instant feedback with computer testing (Parshall, 2002). Pencil and paper tests also

Checking your phone while driving is one of the biggest causes for accidents, and they might think they are in a safe space to check their phone, but really you always need to be alert and that may cause an accident.
