27. Biogas plant in Jahangirnagar University (JU) at a glance
This project is situated at Rangamati the
northern area of JU campus.
Total area of the project: 10,584 square ft.
Volume of the plant: 50 cubic meter each (2
plants are in operation)
Number of gas connected house: 30
Monthly fee for each connection: 500 BDT
Gas distribution time:
6.00 am – 7.30 am : 1.5 hours
11.00 am – 1.00pm: 2 hours
6.00pm – 7.30 pm: 1.5 hours
Total supplied time- 5 hours

28. Source segregation is the pre requisite for solid waste management.
3 different types of colored baskets are provided to the teachers,
officers & shops and students halls.
One bucket contains degradable wastes that are covered by an extra
lid.
The other two are indicated by red & green color baskets. The green
one is used for putting recyclable wastes while the red basket
contains toxic wastes.
Transportation system for collecting wastes:
6van with 12van drivers

Collection time: 10:00 – 13:00 from Halls, shops and offices
13.00 – 15.00 from houses of Teachers and Officers.
13 poor peoples have got job in this plant

29. Students participation
Five MS students were worked on solid waste management
from JU in last six year.
Four B. Sc. students were worked in this plant from BUET in
2013.
Five B. Sc. students were worked on solid waste
management from JU in last six year.
One student MS students from She-re- Bangla Agricultural
University is working on this plant.
One Ph. D. student, four MS students and four B. Sc.
students are working on this plant.
All the students are directly participating in
this plant which might implement their
professional life in future and these manpower
might enhance CDM in Bangladesh.

31. An MoU has been signed up with
BPATC for house hold waste
management
BPATC provides segregated house hold
waste to JU waste management plant and
Tk. 5000 for maintenance cost per month.
We will provide a portion of fertilizer on the
ratio of their waste.
32. Another MoU has been signed up with
Arunapolli (JU Housing Society) for house hold
waste management
Arunapolli provides segregated house hold
waste to JU waste management plant and Tk.
13000 for maintenance cost per month.
Two more communities are interested to
provide us their waste and MoU will be signed
up very soon.
33. Reduction of global warming by management of methane
gas.
2000 kg per month organic fertilizer is produced by this
plant which may meet the demand of chemical fertilizer
This model will play a good role in waste management in all
the public university campuses and all the semi urban and
urban region in Bangladesh.
Poverty might be reduced by implemented this plant.
