Travel Document
A travel document is an identity document issued by
a government or international treaty organization to
facilitate the movement of individuals or small groups
of people across international boundaries, following
international agreements. Travel documents usually
assure other governments that the bearer may return
to the issuing country, and are often issued in booklet
form to allow other governments to place visas as
well as entry and exit stamps into them.

Passport
In general, a passport is a travel
document that also serves as
proof of nationality from the
issuing country. Although
generally accepted by the majority
of countries in the world, some
issuing countries expressly exclude

Several other groups of documents issued for a different purpose
officially serve as travel documents, generally for a limited set of
countries. Such documents (when allowing full border crossing -exiting
one country, and entering another- only) are discussed below:
❑National identity card: Identity cards are generally issued as a means of
identification within a country, but in some cases they may also be used
as a travel document.
❑Driver's license : Driver's licenses are generally not considered travel
documents, since they bear no information on nationality and
conditions which would lead to refusal of a travel document have
generally not been tested.

Abroad!
Documents play a very major role in air travel and you just don’t
want to miss a flight because you forget to carry one. So do get
aware of important travel documents you need to take with you

2. THE VISA: Next document in this listing is the Visa. It is a
type of authorized document which is granted by a country
to a foreign passenger. There is an option of Visa on arrival
available for the travelers.
3. THE TICKETS: Your plane tickets are the next important
thing which you need to carry. You can purchase these
online or at the airport. You can book these in advance or
grab the last minute flight deals. Do ensure that you take
the photocopy of your ticket as it helps you in case you lost
it. You need to copy it as immigration departments of some
countries ask for it, especially when you are returning on the
same ticket.

Passport
The passport of Bangladesh is
an ICAO compliant, machine readable and
biometric e-passport issued for the purpose
of travel to foreign countries by the passport
holder. Bangladesh is the first country in
South Asia to issue e-passports for all eligible
citizens. The passport booklet is
manufactured, printed and issued by
the Department of Immigration and
Types of
Passports
The Government of Bangladesh issues three different types of passports.
These are Diplomatic, Official and regular or ordinary passports.
Ordinary passport (সাধারণ পাসপপার্ট, green cover) is issued to ordinary
regular citizens of Bangladesh for international travel, such as for
vacation, study, business trips, etc.
Official passport (সরকারী পাসপপার্ট, blue cover) is issued to Bangladesh
government employees, government officials and individuals
representing the Bangladeshi government on official business.
Diplomatic passport (ক
ূ র্নৈতিক পাসপপার্ট, red cover) is issued to
Bangladeshi diplomats, top ranking government officials and diplomatic
couriers.
Special passport (স্পেশাল পাসপপার্ট, Maroon cover), also known as
Bangladesh-India Special passport, was issued to Bangladeshi citizens,
which was valid for travelling to India only. This passport issuance had
stopped in 2013.

• Filled-out online Application form (print out copy with signature signed

• 2 recent color photographs (2 inches size and a stamp size 2 cm. x 2 cm.) with
white background.
• An employment letter (mentioning that individual’s appointment/post,
passport number, Thai ID number, duration of period serving in the company
and salary.) OR an invitation letter from Bangladesh in subject in Tourism
together with a copy of a passport of the host/ a person who invite you to
Bangladesh.
• A copy of Hotel reservation.
• A copy of recent book bank or bank statement (alternative)
• A copy of Ticket
• A valid Passport with sufficient number of pages
• Copy of the previous visa
Business Visa
• Passport and the copy of the main page (picture & valid visa page).
• Work Permit & the copy.

Student Visa
• Proof of letter from the Bangladesh Government-
approved educational institution where the
applicant has got admitted or going to be
admitted;
• Sponsorship letter from the concern educational
institute of Bangladesh;
• Bank statement (last three months);
• Student ID with a photocopy;
• Two copies of 45mm X 35mm photographs;
Employment Visa
• A letter from the employer;
• Approval letter/Letter of recommendation from
the relevant Ministry or Board of Investment (BOI)
or Bangladesh Export Processing Zones Authority
(BEPZA);
• Recommendation letter from the organization
• Appointment letter or contract papers with full
terms and conditions;
• Two copies of 45mm X 35mm photographs;
Diplomatic Visa/Official
Visa
•Note Verbal or official letter from the
concerned Government/ Embassy/ Office/
Organization;
•Two copies of 45mm X 35mm photographs;
•Duly filled-in visa application form
•Note Verbal from the Ministry of Foreign
Affairs is required for the Exemption of the
Visa fees for the official visits
Investor visa
• Investors in existing / new/ under construction/
upcoming industrial /commercial entity in the
private sector under joint venture or 100%
foreign owned company are eligible
for investor visa. The following documents will
be required for investor visa:
• Letter of recommendation from the Ministry of
Industries, Dhaka or the Board of Investment
(BOI) or Bangladesh Export Processing Zones
Authority (BEPZA), Dhaka;
• Two copies of 45mm X 35mm photographs;
NGO visa
Individuals appointed in an NGO registered in Bangladesh
would be eligible for NGO visa for employment/service.
The following documents will be required for NGO visa:
• A certified letter from the concerned NGO in Bangladesh
which should be duly attested by the NGO Affairs Bureau,
Dhaka;
• An appointment letter with full terms and conditions from
the NGO where the applicant is going to join;
• A letter from the present employer where the applicant
belongs to;
• Two copies of 45mm X 35mm photographs;
• Duly filled-in visa application form.
Journalist Visa
Journalists of newspapers / magazines /TV or radio networks /
news agencies /representatives of print, electronic or satellite
media / freelance journalists would be eligible for journalist
visa for the purpose of professional duty in Bangladesh. The
following documents will be required for journalist visa:
• A support letter from his/her organization describing the
purpose of his/her visit;
• Duly filled in FF-I and FF-II forms;
• Two copies of 45mm X 35mm photographs
• Duly filled-in visa application form.
• Passport copies (the main picture page and valid Thai visa
page)
• One set of a copy of work permit.
• A copy of press identity card

Travel Insurance
Travel Insurance or more commonly known in
the industry as Overseas Medical Claim
Insurance, provides coverage for Bangladeshi
nationals visiting abroad; for multiple
purposes including business, holiday, tours,
studies, employment or temporary residency
in foreign lands outside of Bangladesh.

Travel Compensation
Fund
The Compensation Fund for Customers of Travel Agents is a financial
protection.
❖Purpose of the Fund
• The Fund could reimburse or compensate you if you do not receive
the services you have paid for as a result of:
• a provider not rendering them;
• a travel agency closing its doors;
• a natural disaster or a political crisis;
• The issuance of an official advisory by the Government, after the
services have been purchased, against any travel or non-
essential travel to the destination.
What is not covered by
the Fund
Among other things, the Fund does not cover:
• "Non-tourism" goods or services (travel
insurance, travel guides, luggage, etc.);
• Damages stemming from the non-delivery of
services, such as vacation days lost, or lost wages
caused by a cancelled flight, unless you were
awarded an amount as part of a judgment
received against your travel agent;
• Travel services you have received, but with which
you are dissatisfied (e.g. a cruise whose meals
were not up to the quality you had expected). For
