CHAPTER 5
NATURAL ENVIRONMENT
Southeast Asia Region
Equatorial
 5°-10° north and south latitudes
 Include : Amazon basin, Congo basin, Niger basin, South
east Asia
 commonly found in South America, Central Africa, and
Southeast Asia
Ocean Climates
 Oceanic climates generally have warm summers and cool (but not
cold) winters.
 The annual range of temperatures is smaller than typical climates
at these latitudes due to the constant stable marine air masses.
Oceanic Climate
Known as marine, west coast and maritime
 Cool summers and cool but not cold winters
 Monthly mean temperature below 22 °c (72 °f) in the
warmest month, and above 0 °c (32 °f) in the coldest month.
Tsunami
A long, high sea wave caused by an earthquake or other
disturbance
Impact of Tsunami
Death
Destruction
Disease
Pollution
The action of polluting especially by enviromental contamination
with man-made waste; also : the condition of being polluted
Types Pollution Effects
Air Pollution Effects 1. Reduced lungs
2. Asthma attacks
Water Pollution Effects 1. Typhoid
2. Amoebiasis
Soil Pollution Effects 1. Cancers
East Asia Region
Subtropics
 The subtropics are geographic and climate zones located
roughly between the tropics at latitude 23.5 °
 Temperate zones (normally referring to latitudes 35-66.5°
north and south of the Equator
Midlatitud Climates
 The middle latitudes are between 23°26’22” south and
66°33’39” south latitude
 Weather fronts and extratropical cyclones are usually found
in this area, as well as occasional tropical cyclones which
have traveled from their areas of formation closer to the
equator.
GRASSLAND
Large area with
rolling hills covered
in grasses and
flowers
Warm and humid in
the summer
Animals migrate
when weather gets
frigid
Cars damage the
desert when the are
used
Lost their leaves
during winter
Extremely cold and
dry
DESERT
REGION’S FOREST
Taking place in a populated area and
resulting in severe damage to the
environment and often
Natural Disasters
- Tsunami
- Hurricanes
- Earthquakes
Disease
- Yokkaichi Asthma
- Minamata Disease
- Niagata Minamata
Disease
Pollution
- Air pollution
- Water pollution
- Toxic pollution
Natural Environment of Europe
Region
Activities in Mediterranean Sea
 Surfing in the Mediterranean
 Whale Watching in the Mediterranean
Shipwreck and reef diving in the Mediterranean
Bike adventures in the Mediterranean
Mediterranean Sea Cruises
Impact of Industrialization
Positive Negative
- Higher Standard of
Living
- Wage slavery
- More affordable products - Slums
- More jobs - Child labor
Natural Environment of North
America Region
Natural Vegetation & Soils
Natural Vegetation
- Temperature and rainfall affect the natural vegetation
- a tall-grass prairie and west a short-grass steppe
- subtropical evergreen forest, and the little-watered by
desert shrub, semi desert, and desert
Natural Soils
- Naturally fertile soils that help to produce so much corn and
wheat
- Acid soils are found in wet areas, alkaline soils in dry areas
NATURAL HAZARD
Devasting damage and leave a trail of destruction.
Impact on things such as the economy, the environment and
the live hood of human.
Damage and destruction of crops can short supply of food
